Friday, Friday! ๐ŸŒ…

Good morning! Happy Friday! Foggy ๐ŸŒ and cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar. Many of my windows were closed earlier but they’re back open now. There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 10 am.

Carrot pancakes ๐Ÿฅ• with Greek yogurt and strawberries ๐Ÿ“ were breakfast today. Up a little before 5 am, after breakfast did a bit of reading ๐Ÿ“– about custom house ๐Ÿก building. I keep studying building plots. I need to seriously study CPAs and how to create a plan for managing my money ๐Ÿ’ต as part of the building plan. And I keep varying how much land I want.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 59 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 15th. South wind 9 to 17 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1976. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

Going to ride to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ might bus it home in the evening depending on the weather. It might rain โ˜” again this evening and is expected to rain during the overnight so not going camping ๐Ÿ• tonight. Maybe tomorrow I’m undecided.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-12.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:04 pm with the sun in the west (280ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:42 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:12 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (133ยฐ) at an altitude of 46ยฐ from the horizon, 252,187 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:48 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 54 degrees. Breezy, 18 mph breeze โ›… from the south with gusts up to 28mph. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly between 9pm and 5am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 5th. South wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 7 to 12 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will be cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny โ˜๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜€ , with a high of 58 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1941. 5.8 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

I might do a quick overnight camping ๐Ÿ• tomorrow but it depends on the morning tomorrow though maybe I should decide by evening so I can get gear together ๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿฅพ and maybe run to the store and top off the propane tank. ๐Ÿฎ It looks like tomorrow evening and night would be good for a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and Sunday would be nice for a spring time hike.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. โ˜€ West wind 10 to 15 mph. A bit breezy it would seem. But nice if not a bit cool. But at at least things are greening up. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:07 pm with dusk at 8:37 pm. On that day in 2023, we had sunny and temperatures between 77 and 39 degrees. Maybe that weekend I’ll do the Catskill Scenic Trail with everything green and spring like then. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1970.

 Schroon Lake

It’s all ducking plastic ๐Ÿฅ

Some mornings I wake to the smell of pollution from the plastics plant in Fuera Bush. This morning I woke up early thinking about the Green Building book which seemed to be more concerned about building McMansion’s with green features, and things like closets and how many outlets you need for your smart television. I don’t want a television, I don’t care about schools or how many bedrooms. I just want a cozy little cabin with a lot of land.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Cloudy and 43 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ Calm wind. Totally inappropriate but I have my windows wide open in my apartment. But I like the fresh air, and I’ve become increasingly feral after all these years wearing the suit and playing director for eight hours a day, with a dour but easy going nature it so I tell myself. As long as shit gets done and I don’t get a call from Capitol Hill, I’m good. will drop below freezing at Friday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ I guess at that point I’ll have to close my windows for a few days.

Woke up at 4:30 AM or so this morning and couldn’t get back to bed, ๐Ÿ›Œ so I started cooking down the 15-bean soup on the stove and a little after 5 AM got making some bananas and oatmeal, ๐ŸŒ then some pancakes with mango and honey. ๐Ÿฅž๐Ÿ๐Ÿฏ  Good stuff, the egg in the homemade pancake mix added some protein, and with the oats and wholewheat flour plus mango lots of fiber. Maybe not as much as Johnnycakes with spinach but still pretty good. ๐Ÿฅฆ

I get a chuckle when they send a 115 person articulated bus with seats for 59 out to Voorheesville, ๐Ÿš but this morning it was remarkably full at 7 am. Probably standees wouldn’t be appropriate on a rural / suburban route and they needed to get the bus downtown at any rate for the next run. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ I do wish I could have ridden my bike to work ๐Ÿšฒ as the time on the bus seems like such a time suck. Better use of my time though then driving. ๐Ÿš˜ Those days will be here before you know it, but hopefully by then I’ll have a fuel-efficient easy to drive vehicle.

As it’s going to be raining by evening ๐ŸŒง๏ธ I’m walking the Plaza. ๐Ÿšถ I don’t do as much walking as I used to do being that most days I ride to work. ๐Ÿšฒ I mean I thought about doing the Meads Lane loop on my bike this morning but it’s kind of misting and foggy out. So I’m busing it and taking the shuttle ๐Ÿš€ out to the suburban office. I heard the normal shuttle got in a wreck so it’s been a state pool car lately. I don’t mind, as long as we can all squeeze in and I can get to work. Worse comes to worse, I can hop on the CDTA Route 22, though that’s another bus fare. It seems so petty when I’m planning to buy land and build a house, but every little bit helps. That’s how I got as far as I got.

Today will rain likely, mainly after 5pm. Patchy fog between 9am and 10am. Otherwise, cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 2pm. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1974. 10.5 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

At times I get so fustrated looking at land, ๐Ÿšœ though I shoudn’t be as there are definitely options out there. The one I looked at yesterday, after studying the LIDAR and running the stats is really too sloped to build on. Another one has a nice price, but I’m not convinced it’s an all-season road, despite what the seller says, and there is other parcels proposed to be sold nearby. ๐Ÿ” None of them is perfect, but I am developing a plan on what is important, learning what is out there, piece by piece. And I can’t fall too much in love with any one parcel, as it could disappear from the market before I’m ready to buy. โค๏ธ I do worry a bit about winter driving, but if it’s bad, I can always call in or work from home. โ„๏ธ People may be pushing me towards things I don’t care about, like plastic houses and good school districts, or marble counter tops and closet size, but I know what I want — that basic cabin that complies with town codes — but is simple to maintain and uses wood and solar energy produced on site,  and provides land for homesteading and having fires. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”ฅ I get many people care about marble countertops and looking pretty, but that’s not on my list.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 41.9° from the due south horizon (-28.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:14 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (257°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (264°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:52 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 53 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 39 degrees at 5am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 20th. North wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1950.

Today in 1857, Supreme Court of the United States rules in the Dred Scott v. Sandford case. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš–๏ธ Often said to be one of the worse decisions ever, conservatives cling to the idea that so-called bad liberal rulings like Row v Wade can be overturned by future courts. Honestly, I think the court should be getting the government off people’s backs, if anything overruling cases that limit liberty rather then expanding the police state by making it easier for the government to pass new laws. I don’t celebrate baby murder like some people do, but I also don’t think we should be in the business of ban everything.

Not going camping this weekend either. ๐Ÿ˜ž The sun ain’t going to shine anymore. At least on the weekends. Saturday, a chance of rain after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, rain likely before 1pm, then showers likely after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees. Still at least it’s mild and not much of a fire risk.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:33 pm with dusk at 8:01 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2023, we had sunny and temperatures between 67 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

 Almost Sunset

Monday returns this last one of August ๐ŸŒผ

The clam bake last night with the folks was nice, stayed overnight, having breakfast and then will head home, shower and ride to work. Got to burn off those alcohol calories from the family clam bake riding up the Madison Street Hill. Then the hike up to the 18th floor.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Partly sunny and 55 degrees in Dormansville, NY. ๐ŸŒ„ Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees. It’s a pleasant morning, I was up around 5 AM which sounds early but I was dead out a little after nine, after having a few beers with the family clam bake, then drinking some of the clam juice. Part of the reason I woke up so early is I had to go pee off the tailgate of my truck. But it was a nice morning.

I had a nice morning with mom and dad ๐Ÿณ, mom made up her scrambled eggs with tomato, spinach and feta. Maybe not as healthy as I’d make it up at home as I really like to load my eggs up with spinach, but still pretty good breakfast. They also have some bacon ๐Ÿฅ“ which I had a small portion along with toast, which I had a half a slice. Maybe I’d have more but I had a lot of clams ๐Ÿ•น last night and didn’t want to totally over-due it. Lunch today at work I am going the direction of tofu and veggies, for some less calories but still a good portion of fiber and protein. Looking at my nutrient profile, I think I’m still consuming way too much sugar in my day, so lately I’ve been swapping out some of the fruit in my office ๐Ÿ for more carrots or celery with halved avocados for dipping. ๐Ÿฅ‘ The great thing about the celery or carrot ๐Ÿฅ• combination with avocados is you end up with fiber and omega-3 fats certain to help ward off hunger for a few hours.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. A bit foggy currently in Dormansville, will have to be careful going over Derbyshire Hill to Clarksville this morning. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 4pm. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1948.

I am not sure if it’s going to rain ๐ŸŒฆ or not be nice for the evening bike ride home, but if it’s bad, I’ll just put Blackie ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ on the bus, and we’ll take it from there. I had forgotten how nice the bike racks are on the bus, and how secure bikes ride when you mount them on the bus. ๐ŸšŒ The thing is if you ride at least one way, that’s still calories burned and time enjoyed on the bike trail, even if I can’t do both ways. But I’m hopeful the rain holds off until 6 PM or later, or if I get a little wet on my evening commute, ๐Ÿ’ฆ I don’t think I’ll necessarily melt. Might be muggy later, but probably not super hot.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 57.3° from the due south horizon (-13.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:01 pm with the sun in the west (278°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (284°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:39 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:06 pm, which is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (137°) at an altitude of 12° from the horizon, 226,847 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:44 pm.

At sunset, look out for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 21 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over today. Probably a good night to spend with a book at home ๐Ÿ“— — I still have a lot of books to read but I have to find the time to do it. I am thinking of doing another light meal for dinner to balance out the heavy calorie-rich clam bake of yesterday ๐Ÿ•น and carbs of bread and bacon this morning, probably broil tofu with smoked salt, green beans, sweet corn and crack open that cantaloupe I bought yesterday for dessert. ๐Ÿˆ Need to find out if those 36″ waist jeans I bought yesterday at Walmart fit. I should try them on. ๐Ÿ‘–

Tonight will be mostly cloudy โ˜๏ธ, with a low of 60 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 25th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8pm. South wind around 6 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1982.

The clam bake I had with my folks was pretty good, ๐Ÿ•น though I wish there was more veggies and garlic in the mix, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿณ but I had to compromise over how I wanted it versus what my parents would like. My mom has surgery in a few days, so it was one of the last days she could enjoy food like this for a few months, so it was fun spending a nice evening out back, especially as you know these nice evenings won’t last forever.

Labor Day Weekend Looks Great. ๐Ÿ‘ทFriday, mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6pm. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 60 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 79. Maximum dew point of 64 at 1pm. Labor Day, will be a warm 85 degrees and sunny. Typical average high for the weekend is 79 degrees.

Definitely going to try to take Friday off so I can get a jump on the holiday weekend โ›บ in the Adirondacks. Thinking Speculator for a great weekend with lots of sun โ˜€ relaxing, biking and swimming ๐ŸŠ. It doesn’t look like we will be short on staff, I could probably remote work but I’d rather just be able to set up camp and relax, do a lot of mountain biking or paddling on Friday, especially as the weather looks so nice. And hammock time with a good book. ๐Ÿ˜ Plus maybe some of those fourth of July fireworks I bought but never lit off.  And a few cold beers, though not like back in the day. ๐Ÿบ I mean I was surprised how many pounds I packed on Piseco-Powley during that rainy weekend a few weeks back, with some drinking and too many shrimp and other things cooked with cornstarch. Burned it off in a few days, but it was noticeable.

Hard to believe but, next Monday is Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿญ when the sun will be setting at 7:27 pm with dusk at 7:54 pm. Dark so early, come September! On that day in 2022, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 87 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1929.

Full Dumpster

Stay home, save money ๐Ÿก

That’s one way to look at the weekend. I can’t believe we are going to have yet another cloudy, rainy weekend. I’m not spending the money to drive out to Schoharie in crap weather, especially as I don’t have Blackie, my bicycle yet.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Foggy ๐ŸŒ and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 66 degrees. The skies will clear around 11 am. Or so I hope. Might rain or thunder some more, but hopefully not during my lunch-time walk, evening commute or evening walk. I’m noticing a theme here.

Out walking this morning. โ˜” What a surprise, between the fog and the weather pattern were stuck in, it’s raining out. And it going to be cloudy and hot Saturday with rain come Sunday. Hey at least not camping saves money! Or so I tell myself. 10 ยพ miles walked yesterday, 42 flights of stairs up and down. I had time, I could have walked ๐Ÿšถ more last night but I was achy and tired, ๐Ÿ› so I got to bed on time but woke up much too early, around 5 AM. But I got in close to 8 hours of sleep last night.

This morning is an oatmeal day. ๐ŸŒ ๐Ÿฅฃ I almost would like oatmeal-banana pancakes, but I want to save the last two bananas I have to bring into my office at work to make it through Friday. Oatmeal with blueberries ๐Ÿ’™ is a quick breakfast, I might throw in some walnuts, as I’ve had them for a few weeks now and don’t want to risk them going bad. I like walnuts, their healthy but a little high in fat My pantry at home is a bit picked over, but I think I still have healthy options left, ๐ŸŒฝ especially after getting sweet corn and tomatoes yesterday at the farmers market. I was hoping I would have had an excuse to go to the store when I picked up Blackie, but not so far this week. ๐Ÿ›’ I have more rice and lentils I can cook up tomorrow, and I took the black beans out of the freezer. I’ll probably have that with sweet corn and tomatoes tonight. And red onions ๐Ÿง… of course.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒค๏ธ ๐Ÿคœ ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 89 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. Light southeast wind becoming south 12 to 17 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1894.

I’m still waiting for the call about Blackie from the bike shop. ๐Ÿšฒ I might not have been clear what I was asking when I called yesterday but it’s kind of weird to explain – they’re building the bike for me but I haven’t paid for it or even taken the proper size bike for a test ride. So I probably wasn’t clear what I meant about test riding the XXL bike on the phone, that it’s the one they are putting together for me to purchase. ๐Ÿ“ž It was a different salesperson I got yesterday then who I talked to on Friday but I thought when they said it said it would be ready in a few days I would have it by Wednesday. I’m not going to take off time until I know it’s ready, though I will stop by Saturday to follow up. I really want to ask about the rack too fitting the bike. I am pretty sure that’s the bike I want, but I would want to make sure it fits before I lay down the big bucks. Plus Saturday, then is a good time to get groceries, even if it’s a bit crowded. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿฅฆ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:52 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:51 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 21 seconds over yesterday.

Finally the farmers market ๐ŸŒฝ ๐Ÿ… had tomatoes and sweet corn that made me happy. ๐Ÿ˜Š The fresh sweet corn was amazing especially with some MSG – I skipped the butter due to the saturated fats. Tomatoes were good though not as exceptionally good as I had hoped. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ If I don’t get to Schoharie this weekend it’s not the end of the world. There is farm stands going out on vacation, Sandell’s Farm going up to Piseco-Powley Road, and the best farm stands really are in August and September in the Schoharie Valley, and probably is the best riding of the Catskill Scenic Trail. ๐Ÿšฒ

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11pm. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฉ, with a low of 65 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 6pm. Another night in the swamp. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. That sounds wet. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 49 occurred back in 1940.

On this day in 1977, the Great 1977 New York City Blackout begins, ๐ŸŒƒ plunging New York into 24 hours of darkness, chaos, and crime. It really was a dark time in the city. This black out mostly effected the city, not upstate so much. Albany has gotten shifty after the pandemic but it’s nothing like New York City, especially in the olden days of the 1970s. ๐Ÿšจ

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a slight chance of showers before 8am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 71 at 10am. I’ll watch the radar, maybe I’ll do the town pool in the afternoon. Sunday, a chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. High near 82. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Maximum dew point of 74 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

If it only was slightly nicer out ๐ŸŒค๏ธand I had the bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ I would reconsider my plans to go to Schoharie. If the shop calls today or tomorrow and I can sneak out of work early and get the bike and groceries, I’ll reconsider my plans. It might be more haze then clouds and maybe it won’t be until late when the showers and Thunderstorms come rolling through. It would be fun to swim ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ and see the auto show ๐Ÿš˜ and it’s going to be a hot one. Otherwise, there is always next weekend – the last one before Summer Vacation. ๐Ÿ–

I am still hopeful that the through we are stuck in breaks up by August ๐ŸŒง๏ธ and we can finally have some nice hot and sunny weather โ˜€ with calm weather. I don’t mind some heat and humidity on vacation or for that matter when I’m at the Potholers in Adirondacks. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ Often the weekend before Summer Vacation ๐Ÿ“ฆ I like to stay home and pack but I’m not necessarily convinced that is necessary as I pretty much know what I need and will pack only food for the first few days and get fresh food out in the Finger Lakes. ๐Ÿ‡ Next weekend if it’s decent I could do Schoharie or the Potholers, maybe extending the weekend by a day on either side of the weekend.

Looking ahead, next Thursday is Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš when the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm with dusk at 9:01 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 97 and 72 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1991.

Daily Update – October 17, 2022

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again.

One step closer to 2023. And the future. Things are difficult with inflation and stock market down, but I know if I invest and minimize what I consume today, things will be better tomorrow.

Cloudy and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Calm wind. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 am. Maybe a cool morning to have the windows open but I like the fresh air.

Saturday I went out Five Rivers in the morning, ๐Ÿฆ then over to Mr. Wolcott’s place in Colonie, poked around the Crossings with John for a while then went for a hike at Five Mile Waterworks ๐Ÿฆ† and the Pine Bush Trail ๐ŸŒฒ along there for a while until dusk.

Sunday I was going to go to Thacher Park ๐Ÿ‚ but unsure how long the sun would be out, I decided instead just to do another hike out to Five Rivers via Meads Lane. I spent several hours poking around Van Dyke Preserve and Five Rivers. And it just was one of those days that started out gray and foggy, and I couldn’t get moving. I do think I missed out on some pretty leaves, but I just didn’t want to drive or deal with crowds, especially when I could walk to Five Rivers and it would save money. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ I guess I can’t complain too much, though after seeing other people’s photos from Thacher Park ๐Ÿ“ท I really wish I had driven up there and just walked out to Five Rivers. I do feel like I am missing out on fall. Plus I still have questions about the reliability my of truck.

Maybe next weekend I’ll head up to Thacher Park. ๐Ÿ• Or maybe I’ll head out of town to camp. I am not sure, I am considering my options based on the weather, how busy I am with work and how well my truck is running. I am thinking maybe Madison County, but I might wait until November for that trip. Rensselearville State Forest is close but I’ve been up there a lot lately. Maybe there are other options — the thing is I will need cell service all weekend long as it’s another working weekend.

December 21, 2019 Evening

Good evening! Partly clear and 22 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Already not as bitterly cold as a day ago but I did turn up the heat because I am cold and it’s going to be mild the rest of the week. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Today was a cold and gray day โ˜ but it was pretty when the sun peaked through the clouds out skiing ๐ŸŽฟ in the Pine Bush. It was just me and Burt Shou on the Save the Pine Bush Ski trip but then I went out for a while myself. I think I may have gotten a bit of a sun burn because of the reflection off the snow and from my photosensitive skin after taking the antibiotics for three weeks. I was glad I finished them up but I am now feeling a bit stiff in the knees and I had a bit of a headache for a while but sometimes a bit of Lyme hangs around. ๐Ÿœ Or maybe I’m injuring my knees a bit with all the time lately I’ve spent on the bike ๐Ÿšฒ.

I did fine skiing ๐ŸŽฟ except the one time I crashed ๐Ÿ’ฅ- my skis are touring cross country skis and they are a bit fast and unstable for descending the steepest dunes. I missed a turn in the trail and ended up tangled in wild grape ๐Ÿ‡ vine. They’re quite old at this point but they still work great. I like to use things as long as possible as it saves money ๐Ÿ’ต and I don’t have trash pickup so I’d have to pay to get rid of them at the transfer station. ๐Ÿšฎ I have more photos ๐Ÿ“ท to upload tomorrow.

As the first day of winter it was pretty cold and gray. โ˜ But it was a productive day and it’s going to be warm and sunny over the next few days, โ˜€ especially on Monday. Too bad I have to work that day but I’ll enjoy my lunch time walk ๐Ÿšถ.I’m just hoping that the nice weather will continue into the next weekend when I’m out in the Finger Lakes National Forest.

Finally took out the garbage from the kitchen. ๐Ÿ—‘With the compost usually it doesn’t stink and I can leave it in the can for weeks — but I guess I must have scrapped something off a pan or something and it started to rot and stink. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป I should do it more often but I don’t like to waste trash bags, and it’s not like I have a day I have to do it except when I go to the transfer station myself.

Took another sleeping pill ๐Ÿ’Š because I was concerned about waking up in the early hours and didn’t want to have that happen again like last night. Might be a bit foggy ๐ŸŒ in the morning but without work or anything to do early tomorrow I’m fine with that.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 15 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 17 at 6pm; Light south wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1955.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ˜ with 10% illuminated. The moon will rise at 3:16 am. The New Moon is on Wednesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:21 am with the first light at 6:49 am, which is 32 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, an increase of 3 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 39 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 7th. South wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 1990. 12.3 inches of snow fell back in 1969.โ„

I am glad we are having a big warm up tomorrow โ™จ as it will save on the heat. It will also make it easier outside for skiing and walking. I’m interested to see if the voltage switch does its job properly. I checked the connections with the Volt meter – for a while I brought it inside for future testing when something looked like the output polarity reversed but it seems fine now. โšก I’ll probably need to tweak the voltage thresholds but I think it will work well. I’ve learned to test and check โ˜‘ when wiring things up and always stop and reconsider things โ›” when I discover something isn’t working as expected.

One week from now will be my first night ๐ŸŒƒ winter camping โ›บ and that should be a lot of fun. I’m just hoping that it won’t be too rainy – looks to be quite mild and cloudy for sure with a chance of rain throughout the week. โ˜” I almost prefer snow showers to rain although at least the roads won’t be so bad with just rain. I can’t control the weather but I can control my attitude.

In four weeks on January 18 the sun will be setting at 4:50 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 25 minutes and 23 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had snow showers, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 35 and 21 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. The record high of 59 degrees was set back in 1973.

Looking ahead, 4:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 1 weeks, Winnie the Pooh Day ๐Ÿฏ is in 4 weeks, Martin Luther King Day ๐Ÿ–ค is a month away, 5 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 5 weeks, February ๐ŸŒง is in 6 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 14 weeks, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 17 weeks, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 21 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ is in 22 weeks, Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ› is in 26 weeks and Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 26 weeks.

White Rocks Overlook

November 24, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Rain and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It was nice camping โ›บ up north in the Adirondacks, and I was surprised that it wasn’t as loud as it sometimes is camping along the East Branch of the Sacanadaga River. Traffic just seemed lighter than normal but I don’t think Gore is open yet nor is snowmobile season and big game hunting season is winding down in the Northern Zone, a lot of people have already tagged out. That said almost all of hunting cabins up north that I passed looked fully occupied with smoke coming out the chimney and lots of pickup trucks parked out front.

Lot more snow than I expected โ„, although not really based on the snow fall estimates which are usually pretty good. Maybe four inches of snow at camp – not real deep but enough that I was glad the site was plowed out by the hunter who had the campsite for the season before they tagged out – probably yesterday – and packed up and left. They also left a ton of firewood 🔥 which was nice, although some of it was particle and chip board although both after I took my axe to it burned well and didn’t stink that much much.

Because I had so much wood I ended up hanging out in camp and starting the fire early 🔥, shoveling around as needed. I didn’t set up a hot tent because I didn’t want to have to dry out my tent in the morning. It did get a bit cold by the fire late around ten as I forgot to pack Long Johns and Wool Socks but once I was under the covers in my truck I was plenty warm. If I go back out on Black Friday to camp – possibly back to the same place – I’ll probably pitch a tent as it’s always nice to have a warm tent to curl up before bed in.

I sat back and had a nice breakfast. 🍳 There was light snow during the overnight, maybe an inch, but by 8 am the roads were just wet. Then relaxing next to the heater โ™จ, working on some blog posts in the winter wonderland until quarter to ten, while slowly taking down camp, it started to sleet then turn to big globs of snow. โ„ By the time I broke camp, the roads had started to ice up a bit with the fallen snow. South of Wells the snow was about an inch deep on NY 30 but after a slow slog down to Northville, the roads were just wet. I drive super slow and carefully on the icy roads because I do so little winter driving these days 🚘 – and I know if it takes a little longer than necessary to get home safely – it’s still a shit ton better than getting in a crash. Really foggy 🌁 in Amsterdam.

It’s nice being in the wilderness and having a big fire. 🐺 The woods is my happy place where I can make as much noise as I want with my music 🎶 and guns 🔫 and have a nice fire. 🔥 Tossing a wrapper in the fire and watching it burn down to nothing and unzipping my jeans and peeing where ever I want is the best! Few things are quite as warming as a wood fire although that 18,000 BTU heater feels great at camp. Listening 👂 to the birds 🐦 this morning and the coyotes late last night. I can’t wait until I can live a life like this permanently. Not next year but eventually. Living in the city is convenient but I ducking love 😍 the wilderness and the countryside.

This afternoon will rain before 3pm, then rain and snow likely. 🌧 High of 37 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2014. That said, a few weeks later I remember snow camping in the Adirondacks. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1898.โ„

Heading out to the folks house for Sunday dinner around four. 🍲 Warm enough and will stay warm so I expect the roads won’t be bad like they were up north for a while. That said things can change but it’s not that far for a slow pace or staying overnight if necessary.

The sun will set at 4:26 pm with dusk around 4:57 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and snow 🌨 and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 7pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1938.

Tuesday morning I’m going to the Urgent Care to get my arm checked out 🙋. Five bucks more per copay then my regular doctor who is currently closed. I’m sure they’ll say it’s Lyme and they’ll put me on antibiotics and the aches and occasional severe headaches will fairly quickly go away. It’s become more noticeable since the bulls eye appeared, especially in the arm but I’m sure I’ve had Lyme Disease since I got the tick bite mid October. 🎯It’s not that bad now but I know it will get worse untreated and they’re so much better at addressing Lyme disease than even a few weeks ago. I was hesitant to go and get tested before I had the bulls eye because the test sometimes comes back false negative if you get tested too quickly and I didn’t want the doctor to thank me for the co-payment and send me on my way untreated. 😷

Also need to get a hair cut.💈 My hair has so quickly gotten shaggy. I did shave my goatee back 🐐 as that was getting kind of long and nasty. But the hair I can’t do myself. 💇

My buck fifty cellphone holder 📱I got from AliExpress broke so I couldn’t have Waze open to display my speed yesterday and I blew past a cop 👮 accidentally pm Interstate 890 🚔but fortunately I did not get pulled over. My speedometer is not accurate on Big Red with the lift kit so I always use Waze to know my speed. That said, for me to blow past a cop means doing 60 mph in a 55 zone which is probably what half the motorists are doing all the time. I should get another one. AliExpress is mad cheap but the quality is a crap shoot and it will take a month or two to arrive on the boat from China. 🚤

Definitely thinking about heading back north on Friday depending on the weather. โ›บ Maybe the same site but two nights, plus some hiking and time in the woods with my shotgun. This time I will pitch a tent and hot tent. I really should hook up the low voltage disconnect reset as in the cold and long nights it seems like occasionally the battery voltage dips but probably could be used longer without turning the truck on if I reconnected the reset button.

Propane camp lantern 🏮 isn’t working at all now. Not sure the issue although I suspect the generator tube that pressurizes the gas is fully plugged with mud and soot. During my October camping trip I was having problems with it producing a ton of black soot and burning dimly. I would like to fix it although I’m considering getting an LED lantern like my parents use and putting rechargable batteries in it it or maybe getting a lantern that can be charged by plugging into the USB ports on my truck. LED lanterns are a lot less fragile but probably not as bright as the propane and they need to recharged. Gotta think about it more. 💭

Speaking of broken shit my portable radio 📻 needs a new battery. The rechargable lithium ion BL – 5C battery it came with has failed, it barely holds a charge and it’s gotten all bloated from overcharging or another failure internally of the lithium ion cell. So bloated the battery cover won’t even fit on the radio.🔋 I’m hesitant to charge it now without watching it lest it go thermal and burn up. Years ago I was burning some camp trash and a little CR 2025 button cell got tossed in the fire and man did that go bang. 💥Moral of the story, don’t mess with lithium ion cells.

As previously noted, next Sunday is December 🎄 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.
