Cook! Cook! Cook! Happy Wednesday from the Kitchen. ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿณ

Delicious, basic wholewheat bread — flour, water, yeast and a bit of salt, were baking in the oven along with spaghetti squash. Stove top there was onions and shredded broccoli frying soon to be cooked up with eggs and mushrooms, Cajun bean soup simmering away. Good breakfast, which will be followed by a delcious dinner when I get home.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Snow flurries and 24 degrees in Delmar, NY for the bike ride in. โ„ Calm wind. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Not a terribly cold but not a wonderful day for a bike ride in. ๐Ÿšฒ Less snow and ice on parts of the bike trail today compared to yesterday, though neither day was the ride impaired. Stopped at Hannaford as I had to get cookies for a colleague’s birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ in the office. Also got scrubby pads as I lost one when I was taking down camp in the snow in over the weekend, ๐Ÿšฐ wanted to get spices but they didn’t have a good selection or good prices. Also it seemed like even the bakery was overpriced at Hannaford. ๐Ÿช I should have just ridden up to Market 32 at lunch time. I bet they’d have the spices I need. But I’ll make due for now and put it on my list should I go to Wally World this weekend. ๐Ÿคท

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers before 8am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 18th. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Cool day ahead but sunny except for the flurries around. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, becoming cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 2005. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1945. โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:45 am with sun having an altitude of 25.9° from the due south horizon (-44.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:41 pm with the sun in the southwest (234°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (241°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:25 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 4:55 pm, which is 25 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:31 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 34 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 28 seconds over today.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 3rd. Southeast wind around 6 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1875.

Kind of cloudy and rainy this weekend. ๐ŸŒฅโ˜” ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees. It’s fine, I didn’t have any big plans for the weekend, just let it go by, do some more of the Udemy classes, fix the wiring issue in my truck.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain showers, partly cloudy, mild and temperatures between 54 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.

Old Fort Hunter

The sloppy Wednesday before Thanksgiving ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ ๐Ÿฆƒ

I guess it started out as snow but it’s all rain, rapidly killing off the remaining snow. Basically it’s just really cold and damp out. Taking the early bus in this morning to walk laps around the Plaza Concourse before work. Not riding in this morning, lol.

Good morning! What day is it? A sloppy day before Thanksgiving, of course. ๐Ÿฆƒ I’m mostly just thinking about the Adirondacks on Friday. Rain and 39 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ˜” There is a northeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a half inch of slop on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธToo wet to call snow and it is rapidly disappearing with the rain. The dire emergency snow storm has been canceled. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Friday around 5 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

The earliest Voorheesville bus ๐Ÿš is absolutely packed with state workers ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿฝโ€โš–๏ธ which I’m surprised with the holiday being tomorrow and the year rapidly coming to a close in 39 days. ๐Ÿ—“ Next month usually traffic drops a lot both on the buses and city streets as so many people take time off before the close of the year.

Not riding Blackie ๐Ÿšต into work today, so I’m walking on the Concourse indoors. ๐Ÿช™ The bus company got my buck thirty, and I’m indoors walkin today. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Gotta get my steps in. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ After all tomorrow is Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ and then Friday it’s off to the Adirondacks.

Got up around 5:45 am which is late for me โฐ but I was a bit tired as I woke up a few times during the night and got listening ๐Ÿ‘‚ to podcasts. ๐Ÿ“ป Pumpkin pancakes ๐Ÿฅž for breakfast. Swapping the banana ๐ŸŒ for an egg ๐Ÿฅš in the mixture definitely makes it things much more cake like. Less sweet though.

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly before 9am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 43 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 30th. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph becoming northwest in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A rather dreary day. ๐Ÿ˜” A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 9.1 inches of snow fell back in 1943.โ„

I figure they’ll let us go at two o’clock or so ๐Ÿข ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐Ÿ˜ but with the dreary weather โ˜” there is really no reason to leave before the early express bus ๐Ÿš at four o’clock. If it was nicer and I rode my bike in like yesterday I might take the get out of jail pass ๐Ÿ›‚ but alas it’s not free. I don’t have that much time in my time bank left over.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:42 am with sun having an altitude of 27.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:46 pm with the sun in the southwest (236ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:29 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 15 seconds with dusk around 4:58 pm, which is 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (123ยฐ) at an altitude of 30ยฐ from the horizon, 227,556 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:34 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Later today, I plan to post the Albany County Election Results ๐Ÿ—ณ to my blog in the popular format, you know the kind with turn out and drop off calculated for each election district, ๐Ÿงฎ and make up some maps. ๐Ÿ—บ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 36 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 2nd. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of 4 occurred back in 2018.

It seems like all that Greek yogurt, Keifer and saukraut has helped with my upset stomach that I’ve been having lately. ๐Ÿคฎ That and no bean soup, or pea soup. Maybe it was a stomach bug ๐Ÿ› that bad garlic powder I dumped down the sink or too much fiber. That said, the chicken ๐Ÿ” soup I made up last night to go with the homemade bread ๐Ÿž was good. Also opened up some of the canned pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ to have with Greek yogurt for dessert.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 7 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 41. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees.

I didn’t commit to taking off Monday ๐Ÿ—ป yet as I wanted to see how much snow ๐ŸŒจ they got in the Adirondacks before deciding to go north but I think ๐Ÿค” it will be a nice and weekend if not a bit cool. But I can have hot soups, a campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and I’ll have my propane heater โ™จ and warm clothes for warmth.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain showers, partly cloudy, mild weather with temperatures between 54 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.

Power Plant along the river

Tuesday before Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ

40 days left in the year, three days until I head up north to the Adirondacks. Heat is finally turned on for a while though this time of year I find it overrides and is uncomfortably warm.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Mostly clear and 16 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Cold start to the morning. Free car battery and heat test. My heat was back on for a while last night until it got too uncomfortably warm inside. Regardless, things will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

To ride in or not, ๐Ÿšฒ that’s the question ๐Ÿ™‹. It’s cold out but I like saving the buck thirty ๐Ÿช™ and the exercise – it’s better than walking 45 minutes. I want to get in early though so I have time to walk ๐Ÿšถ the Plaza as this evening looks like crap. Going to rain tonight with wet snow. ๐ŸŒจ โ˜” Got books ๐Ÿ“š out of the library to read tonight and when I’m camping ๐Ÿ• in the Adirondacks this weekend.

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 40 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 9th. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 9 to 14 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 0.8 inches of snow fell back in 1937.โ„

Two ๐Ÿž loaves of bread are baked, had a nice breakfast of eggs ๐Ÿฅš and all the fixings, along with some fresh bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. ๐Ÿณ Has given me a lot of energy โšก plus that cold really wakes you up. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ But I’m ready for the day to come. But first eighteen flights of stairs to climb – actually one less than that because you start at number one floor not counting the stairs in the LOB.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:42 am with sun having an altitude of 27.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:47 pm with the sun in the southwest (236ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 15 seconds with dusk around 4:59 pm, which is 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (139ยฐ) at an altitude of 31ยฐ from the horizon, 226,594 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:35 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 14 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 52 seconds over today.

The weather might be shit by the end of day ๐Ÿ’ฉ but the way I look at it I’ll toss my bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ on the bus ๐Ÿš and whatever. Still saved the bus fare ๐Ÿช™and got some better exercise then walking ๐Ÿšถ though my goal ๐Ÿฅ… is to get in 10k steps in if possible without an evening walk. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Tonight will rain, snow, and sleet before 11pm, then rain, possibly mixed with snow between 11pm and midnight, then rain after midnight. ๐ŸŒง Low of 36 degrees at 9pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 6th. Southeast wind 14 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 8 occurred back in 2018.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 8 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 39. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees. Going to be cold โ„ up north but I’ll dress warmly and spring the propane heater. I should be good on propane gas for the weekend. โ™จ Planning to take off Monday so I have four days and three nights away from it all off the grid. Leave Friday which is a state or at least agency holiday.

Bar owners will note that there are 2 weeks until Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. Might be able to get good specials that day not that I drink much anymore. It’s not real healthy. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 44 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 2001.

Cleared out a bit at the end of the day

Monday, Monday with Thanksgiving in the Future ๐Ÿฆƒ

Hello second part of November. Looking forward to a better week after a rough weekend. Feeling better today, that is to the extent I’m feeling much at all, maybe my head is completely set onto Friday and getting out of town and away from it all. I should enjoy these days, as they won’t be around forever.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. But it’s a three day week. Sunny and 28 degrees in Albany, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Need those gloves for the ride downtown, though at least it’s clear.

Kind of a chilly morning ๐Ÿšฒ for the bike ride downtown, but sunny. Still cold in the valleys though, especially in the gorge below Southern Boulevard and the Thursday, Yes, it’s a Monday, but I’m moving forward. Up at 5 AM, boiled down 2 lbs of chickpeas, and also a big pot of rice, lentils, beans, corn, broccoli and chiptole spice. ๐Ÿฅ˜ Used some of the chickpeas for hummus this morning, I have a ton of celery that I got on sale at the store yesterday, the rest of the chickpeas and probably some of the aquafava their cooked in will be frozen. I can use the chickpeas in chicken soup tomorrow, along with having some as a snack with blueberries when camping this upcoming weekend int he Adirondacks. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 38 degrees at 2pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 15th. North wind 6 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1991. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 1961. ๐ŸŒจ

I might go for a midday ๐Ÿ•› ride or maybe just a walk ๐Ÿšถ on my lunch break. I was going to do a morning walk but it’s so dark these days so I decided to instead leave earlier for my ride to work, then walk in the Plaza when I got there. But the time I was done with breakfast and showered, ๐Ÿ›€ and rode downtown ๐Ÿšฒ it was basically just time to get to work.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:42 am with sun having an altitude of 27.7° from the due south horizon (-43.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:47 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (236°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 15 seconds with dusk around 4:59 pm, which is 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southeast (155°) at an altitude of 30° from the horizon, 226,288 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:35 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 39 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 58 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 15 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Might need the central heat on tonight. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1879.

Tuesday will have a chance of rain, mainly after 5pm. ๐ŸŒง Increasing clouds, with a high near 41. Light southeast wind increasing to 9 to 14 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Then in the evening, rain, possibly mixed with snow, becoming all rain after 1am. Low around 35. Southeast wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 41. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Monday is Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:25 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 48 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1896.

Frosty Morning at Camp Run Lake

Happy GIS Day! ๐Ÿ—บ โ™ป

Draw me a map by Deirks Bentley might be an appropiate song for today. I mean that’s what everybody expects the people in Buffalo to order LATFOR nee IRC to do. I’ll try to post new maps today, not those type, though I might be too busy but I can always recycle one on this America Recycles Day. Cause as any good redneck will tell you, ya can’t burn everything though many have tried.

Good morning! What day is it? Quite an introduction to GIS Day, of course. ๐Ÿ—บ Partly clear and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. ๐ŸŒ… Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 5 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Not that it’s much warmer than that this morning but the salters ain’t out yet.

Slept into almost six o’clock this morning ๐Ÿ› as I didn’t get to bed ๐Ÿ› until close to nine due to attending that public meeting in Colonie over more development in the Albany Pine Bush. Endless hearings it seems like and most of it wasn’t even about the Pine Bush. ๐Ÿฆ‹๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿฆ‹ More of that bean soup last night and carrot ๐Ÿฅ• bread. That electricโšกblanket felt so good this morning ๐Ÿ› especially as I don’t have the heat on yet so it’s fairly cool in my bedroom. But I like cool, makes the coffee โ˜• and the hot shower ๐Ÿšฟ better in the morning. โ˜บ

Decided on French Toast ๐Ÿž this morning to with the loaf of non carrot homemade bread I pulled out of the freezer topped with blueberries and lots of cinnamon and ginger. Good breakfast, the eggs ๐Ÿฅš in the French Toast add protein to hopefully resist the blood sugar crash from the blueberries ๐Ÿซ. Haven’t done French Toast in a long time.

Figured it would be good to cut back on the FODMAPS at least temporarily๐Ÿš๐Ÿ˜ฒ as I’ve been so gassy lately that all the knock off Gas X ain’t helping. It’s just been a lot of fiber and beans and lentils. Healthy but tough on the guts. ๐Ÿ’ฉMy love of all things carrot ๐Ÿฅ• is tiring me out, got to change it up.

Heading in early this morning as it’s pretty nice and I’m up and going. ๐Ÿšฒ I’ll ride in and save the bus fare ๐Ÿ’ต and then put my bike on the bus ๐Ÿš for the trip back home. It’s too bad the evenings are so dark with the time change. I probably could have done a morning walk but I figure I’ll get to the Plaza early on my bike then walk ๐Ÿšถ the Concourse until quarter to nine then climb the eighteen flights of the stairs to my office ๐Ÿข.

I’m hoping to get squash of some kind at the Farmers Market ๐Ÿ† ๐ŸŽƒ today. I would like to bake it up with bread on Friday and probably pea soup ๐Ÿฒ and chickpeas for the weekend to make hummus. Been thinking about making pancakes ๐Ÿฅž from scratch using whole wheat ๐ŸŒพ flour rather than oats and banana as a way to change things up and get more protein in breakfast as most pancake recipes involve eggs. ๐Ÿฅš Change is good, oats are healthy but not the only option.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 48 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 18th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Not a half bad day for mid November. ๐Ÿฆƒ A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1993. 4.8 inches of snow fell back in 1906.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 29ยฐ from the due south horizon (-41.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:52 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 5:03 pm, which is 55 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (222ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ from the horizon, 233,969 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:39 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 47 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 7 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear โ˜, with a low of 32 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees.

The Slingerlands Rail Trail Bridge ๐ŸŒ‰ is finally done so that’s an excuse to ride out to Voorheesville this weekend. ๐Ÿ Maybe get apples. The Bethlehem Sportsmart is Saturday might go and look at getting cross country skis ๐ŸŽฟ as one of mine cracked last year. Also considering going to the Pine Bush to ride trail and visit the Salvation Army for clothes along with Aldis and India Farmers Market. Options exist for the coming weekend though I’m hoping to get away the following weekend to the Adirondacks.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain showers, partly cloudy, mild and temperatures between 54 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.

Vista Off Cedar Mountain

Nostgolia on this Election Day 2023 โ˜•๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

This year I’m glad I’m not involved in any elections or doing anything political. Just sipping my coffee watching the sun rise remembering the days gone by but glad I’m not at all rushed this morning.

Good morning! Happy Election Day 2023. Partly cloudy โ›… and 51 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. โ˜” There is a west-southwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees. I can smell the manure somebody’s spreading this morning ๐Ÿ’ฉ it’s November in Madison County and the field work is soon to be done for the season. ๐Ÿšœ They might have snow as soon as midweek.

Turned out to be a much nicer morning then expected. โ˜• I knew it was going to be a great day when I awoke, saw the clear night skies ๐ŸŒœand the moon. Had a nice hardy breakfast of eggs ๐Ÿณ with lots of vegetables and onions ๐Ÿง… that I got at Aldi’a yesterday in Cazenovia. While yesterday was cold, damp and gray at times it was still a good day with lots of riding ๐Ÿšฒ and making the most of my day off. A lot has changed in this world over the past few years but mornings are still quite beautiful and the coffee is good.

Glad I’m not involved in any elections this year ๐Ÿ—ณ but there were many hard fought ones out of Bill Magees auction house ๐Ÿ—๏ธ ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿบjust down the road. Been half a decade now, I saw the bridge in Cazenovia they renamed after him. It was sad he lost five years ago, but during that general election cycle wasn’t my race. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ Truth is winning these rural districts is almost impossible with the democratic party becoming mostly an urban issues party with gun ๐Ÿ”ซ control one of their top priorities. I can understand why people vote the way they do nowadays out in the country. ๐Ÿšœ It’s not just Trump. Both parties have become more extreme but the Republicans have really locked up the rural areas nowadays. I have a feeling that Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Senator John Tester of Montana are going to loose in 2024, especially if the GOP runs a stronger presidential candidate then felon Donald Trump. โณ Time moves on. Democrats though really have locked up the suburbs, especially the older ones and professional class. ๐Ÿ•ด๐Ÿป

Today will have showers likely, mainly between 10am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 43 by 5pm. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1938. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

I’m not sure how long it will be nice, clouds are already pushing in. ๐ŸŒฅ I don’t want to deal with wet camping gear ๐Ÿ• so I’m slowly but surely taking things down. I don’t have solid plans for today but I think ๐Ÿค” I’ll just go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ around Stoney Pond then head home and get unpacked. ๐Ÿ‘ช Planning to go see my family this afternoon it’s been three 3โƒฃ weeks as I’ve been out of town ๐ŸŒฒ on various trips. Despite yesterday being cold and dreary especially midday it was a great trip.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:47 am with sun having an altitude of 30.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-39.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:08 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:18 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 20 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 32mph. Today will have 10 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday I rode the South Trail from outside of Cazenovia to New Woodstock. ๐Ÿšต Nice ride though best on a mountain bike as some parts of the trail are a bit rough with roots and gravel. Pungent with the cow poop and water slurry ๐Ÿฎ ๐Ÿ’ฉ one of the dairies was applying to a nearby field but that’s to be expected this time of year.

Spent a little bit of time riding around New Woodstock yesterday after taking the South Trail from outside of Cazenovia to New Woodstock. ๐Ÿš‚ Neat little village with a Historical Museum just off the rail trail. They like in Cazenovia also have an old Black Diamond Caboose there. Cute little village.

Unfortunately my bike had developed a really annoying squeak on Sunday afternoon โš™๏ธ which I couldn’t figure out and started applying grease everywhere, including getting it all over my hands ๐Ÿ‘ and jeans ๐Ÿ‘– and started to drive me crazy thinking I might have a failing bearing or some problem that could leave me stranded. I thought it was just some stone dust from the Erie Canalway somewhere it shouldn’t be mixed with the grease. Kept stopping, applying grease trying to find the noise. ๐Ÿ”• Finally, I figured it out, it was the left pedal got some stone dust in it and squeaking. A little spray lubricant, knock off WD 40 on the pedal after my south trail ride ๐Ÿšฒ returned my sanity.

Swung by Critz Farms hoping to get apples ๐Ÿ but it looked like only the brewery was open ๐Ÿป and I wasn’t looking for a drink. So I went to Cazenovia Lake Park. Kind of cold gray afternoon but the geeese didn’t seem to mind the cool gray day on Cazenovia Lake. ๐Ÿฆ†

Then I went to the Lorenzo State Historic Site, never been there before. โ›ฒ Been by it a million times though. It was a Monday so all the buildings were shut up and no visitor services or as I needed a bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ but it was still nice to explore the grounds. Swung by the library ๐Ÿ“š in Cazenovia for a pee.

Then I Canastota – Cazenovia Trailway, it was starting to rain and was cold didn’t spend a lot of time, โ˜” wanted get back to camp and start cooking soup plus by then I needed another bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ break. Too much coffee โ˜• in the morning. ๐ŸŒ… Also didn’t feel like carrying my mountain bike over several steps to cross Bingley Road. Visited Aldi’s in Cazenovia ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿฅฆ, such a delightful shopping experience. ๐Ÿ›’ Low prices, simple selection quick in and out and the cashier lines without them bagging is so quick. โ˜บ

Got back to camp around 4 pm accidentally brushed a tree with one of my tires backing into the campsite โ›บ rushing having to pee but didn’t do any body damage to my truck ๐Ÿ›ป as the tires stick out beyond the body. Sun โ˜€ came out and ghe wind died down. Fried onions and mushrooms, boiled carrots, broccoli, spinach and whole wheat pasta, added some tuna fish ๐Ÿ  for an excellent dinner. Soup really warmed me up ๐Ÿฒ, I just wish I had some homemade bread ๐Ÿž to dip in it but I eat all of that the previous three days. Had a nice fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ didn’t rain until 7:30 pm so it was a good evening at which point I retired to bed ๐Ÿ› in my truck for the evening.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 11pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 11pm and 1am, then a chance of flurries after 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 3rd. Northwest wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1971.

Cool but fairly decent now for Veterans Day Weekend, especially come Saturday. โ˜€ Friday, clouds then clearing, high may reach 43. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Sunday, going to be sunny and 39. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees. Probably will stay ๐Ÿก next weekend.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 4:42 pm with dusk at 5:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 42 and 27 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 1973.

One Car

To ride the Erie Canalway in Madison County today ๐Ÿšฒ

For many the extra hours is a chance to sleep in but I look at it as another hour to ride and explore the Erie Canalway today.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Cloudy and 44 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. โ˜” Calm wind. Nice morning now that the rain showers have pulled away.

Started my morning with frying ๐Ÿณ onions, spinach, garlic and peppers. And making eggs, dumping cinnamon rather than chipotle on them but actually I kind of liked the warm note the cinnamon gave to the eggs ๐Ÿฅš. Experimenting isn’t a bad thing even if it’s driven by your half awake body. Coffee โ˜• is good, with the intended cinnamon and ginger in it, lol ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Bit cooler this morning then last night with the breeze picking up ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ after that little clipper front came through delivering rain showers early on keeping me mostly in the truck bed ๐Ÿ› until closer to six though around five I got up and visited the bucket shitter ๐Ÿšฝ. Eating breakfast this morning I watched a gray squirrel ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ run up the tree across the way and wonder why I wasn’t sitting next to my 22. Probably shouldn’t be shooting in a campground at any rate, especially as there are people camping down the way by the lake, but we used to shoot up here back in the day with the boys when I was working down in Nelson. Those were the days. ๐Ÿ”ซ I was surprised that others are camping but they’re a ยฝ mile away and out of ear shot. ๐Ÿ‘‚ Except maybe from a gun.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฅ ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 23rd. Light west wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chantce of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1994. 3.0 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

Heading down to Chittenango to explore the Chittenango Landing Musuem, ๐Ÿšฃ and ride the Erie Canalway west to Green Lakes area and then go west to Canastota. I was originally going to park in Canastota as I thought it was closer but I think I’d rather explore the other part of the trail as it seems more interesting. ๐Ÿšฒ The Oneida – Canastota section pretty much just runs along the road that I’ve driven a million times when I was working up this way.

I could stop at the Aldi’s in Canastota this afternoon but I think I’m fairly set on overpriced groceries after visiting the Richmond Springs Price Chopper. ๐Ÿ’ต It actually wasn’t that bad but I skipped getting peppers and broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ there as they were absurdly expensive. I skipped getting gas in Sharon Springs for $3.54 a gallon and was raked over the coals for gas at $3.79 in Richfield Springs โ›ฝ but I wasn’t messing around this time as I almost ran out of gas driving down to Binghamton two weeks ago. โ›ฝ Figured better just get r dun. It’s stupid to stress over $4 when your putting $80 in your truck. I got black sweet grapes ๐Ÿ‡ at Price Chopper hoping to capture some of that sweet flavor of the concord grapes I got last week at Annuto’s. Lol. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Nope, maybe 20%, of the sweetness. Tomorrow I’ll probably check out the fancy Caz Aldi’s though.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:47 am with sun having an altitude of 31.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-39ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:11 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (242ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:52 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 7 seconds with dusk around 5:20 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:55 pm. Time change gets you! At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 28 seconds over today.

Night is going to come quickly that’s why I am getting an early start ๐ŸŒ… and have gathered firewood up for later. ๐Ÿชต๐Ÿช“ This way it will have time to dry โ˜€ and I fully expect tonight I’ll be rolling back to camp about sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ after riding the bulk of the day. Should be more sun later plus I get an extra hour with the time change. Need to shave, change and load my bike up but for now it’s nice by the heater. โ™จ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 10th. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 67 degrees. Very mild night for November last year. I think I was in West Virginia then. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1951.

Yesterday was a fun day, ๐Ÿšต especially riding back down Tassel Hill once I found the trail. Some of those drops on the single track trail with the hairpin switchbacks were a blast on the mountain bike. Nothing technical or jumps just a lot of fun. That said parts of the lower trail weren’t well marked leading me to have to stop ๐Ÿ›‘ and sear he for the trail a few times. ๐Ÿ”Ž ๐Ÿ—บ

Then I rode along the old Chenango Canal Towpath trail ๐Ÿšฒ to the northern end or at least as far as I could go before downed trees blocked the northern end a bit past the substation. The northern end isn’t that impressive, ๐Ÿธ it’s a ditch and a towpath along the County Highway known as Canal Road. Kind of rough and slow going on the grass, took the county highway back. I then rode down to Woodman Pond ๐Ÿฆ† where there was a ton of geese. Nice section of the trail there though they resurfaced the old towpath there with fairly course gravel which made for more difficult riding.

Got to Stoney Pond by around 4:15 pm and I was disappointed to arrive to the campsite I like โ›บ and find a construction bag full of garbage and more garbage dumped in the woods. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Got the mess picked upand seperated out the deposit cans, โ™ป and gathered firewood ๐Ÿชต๐Ÿช“ for the night. ๐Ÿ”ฅ It was a beautiful night but dark, came so quickly by though. Very mild in the low fifties with a calm wind. This morning is cooler. Really wasn’t much garbage left by the time that rip roaring fire was done, the scraps of aluminum and cans I’ll take home crushed and recycle โ™ป.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ when the sun will be setting at 4:30 pm with dusk at 5:00 pm. I don’t drink the way I used to due to health reasons but an occasional drink isn’t a bad thing, especially a real high quality brew.
