March 23, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Clouds and 46 degrees for the morning walk here in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Rsin maybe later or maybe not.

Oatmeal ๐Ÿฅฃ for breakfast and now out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ listening to that John Prine record. ๐Ÿ’ฟ Dark morning with rain pushing in โ˜” or maybe not. I still think there is a good chance I’ll get my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ in for the day. Warm enough this morning the joggers are out ๐Ÿƒ and the birds are singing. ๐Ÿฆ Looks like Saturday it might dip below freezing early but I’m not likely to need my heat until October or maybe November at this point.

Today will have showers likely, mainly between 2pm and 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 58 degrees at 5pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 12th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 3pm. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1938. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2020.โ„

It was nice yesterday to have the windows open ๐Ÿ”ฒ while I was at work to let the fresh air in though I closed them before bed ๐Ÿ› as it cooled down. That said warmer days aren’t far away. Once it warms up a bit more I might stop wearing the muzzle so much but the other day after I got on the elevator a Republican hopped on and was coughing and sounded quite sick. ๐Ÿ˜ท I’m sure he probably wasn’t vaccinated and at this point my COVID-19 booster is probably wearing down. But I figure with the warmer weather the risk of colds and the COVID-19 drop way down plus my muzzles are getting worn out and I’m sure I’ll want them come the autumn.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.3° from the due south horizon (-22.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:34 pm with the sun in the west (266°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west (272°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:11 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:38 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (266°) at an altitude of 22° from the horizon, 236,707 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:12 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 54 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Got down to the park ๐Ÿž after a quick dinner finishing off the remaining brown rice ๐Ÿš lentils and carrots ๐Ÿฅ• I had made up. It was early enough I was able add some extra steps by walking ๐Ÿšถ a few laps of the nature trail before it was getting dark and time to go home. In bed at 8 which is good because I woke up during the night for a while. ๐Ÿ› I really need a night or two in the wilderness with a rip roaring fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ to restore my sleep.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 9pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 10th. Northwest wind 15 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.

I’ve been debugging the new style sheet with the blog, ๐Ÿ“ which the responsive design mode hasn’t been perfect on all displays. That said, I think I’ve mostly worked out the major bugs. One of the issues I’ve had with is caching of the styles which cause a mix of the old and new to display, but I figured out a way to force the browsers to refresh it every time I change stylesheet by including the version number in the fetch for the style sheet.

Saturday still looks rainy โ˜”. Saturday, rain showers and snow showers, possibly mixed with sleet, becoming all rain after 2pm. High near 41. Southeast wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Going to make the Saturday walk fun. Wear the rain coat I guess. Better Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 49. โ˜€ Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:20 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 51 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

I am alone, but the woods is full of sounds of birds, geese, rumble of airlines and trucks and traffic

March 21, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Cool and clear start to the Tuesday. Partly clear ๐ŸŒ… and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I’ll be the first to admit that it is a cold start to the morning with the heat off ๐ŸŒธ but it’s spring and I’m not going to pay for heat if there is no danger of pipes freezing or excessive cold. Indeed this afternoon it should be in the mid 50s. That said, I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my February – March electric and gas bill was only $85. Heating blanket boosted the electric side of things a bit but keeping it at 48 except the coldest days helped a lot. ๐Ÿ’ต I was expecting a little bit over $100 for the bill like the January – February bill with the cold we had mid February.

Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜, with a high of 56 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 8th. Light and variable wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 55 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1921. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1905.โ„

What can I say, it’s going to be a a nice day. ๐Ÿข Too bad I’m going to be in the office all day downtown. Now if we could only have another pandemic and I could be remote working from my truck at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center like I was three years ago. ๐Ÿฆ Watching the birds while I wrote the memos ๐Ÿ“ and endless Zoom meetings. Those were the days.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-23.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:31 pm with the sun in the west (265ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

I cooked up some of the wild salmon I bought on Sunday. ๐Ÿ  I have to say it was tasty. And easier to cook than fish sticks or breaded fish filets. Healthier too. I don’t know why I had never done it before, you just take it out of the freezer in the morning, toss it in the refrigerator before work. Then in the oven broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ and also brown rice with lentils and seasonings – chilli ๐ŸŒถ powder and garlic powder. Being individually vaccum wrapped its more plastic than I would like but I’ve cut plastic out in other ways like not buying apple juice or as much milk and it’s a lightweight plastic bag that should make an excellent fire starter especially with the fish oils. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Really easy to bale that plastic wrap into a tight ball โšฝ. Cost wise, it’s slightly more expensive but the portions are perfect and actually save money by ensuring you only eat the right amount as the rest is frozen and can’t be eaten right away. ๐Ÿ’ต

The sunset is in the west (271ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:09 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:36 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:10 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Last night I went to the Elm Ave Park ๐Ÿž and walked until dusk ๐ŸŒ† which was nice for the first time after work this year. ๐Ÿšถ It helps to get in the extra steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ and it’s fun to walk in the woods around dusk ๐Ÿฆ‰ and see what wildlife is out there. Still though not a lot of evening after dinner but it’s good to get to bed relatively early.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 31 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1875.

Finished my taxes last night, ๐Ÿ“ and while checking the paper forms for my state taxes noticed that I hadn’t reported any Capital Gains on my federal taxes, panicked for a minute and double checked my investment statement and confirmed no capital gains received this past year as the market ended down ๐Ÿ“‰ so much this past year. I didn’t sell anything this year but in better years I do get some capital gains just from the index funds that sell off parts at times to make sure they are still accurately tracking the market. But not in 2022, as most of the leading stocks were down. Got lots of dividends though but I prepaid enough to cover them. I filed ๐Ÿ“‚ my federal taxes online but did paper state taxes as the state ones are simple as I’m a renter but not super poor so I don’t have any real state tax credits except for my contributions to my neices education account.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, rain likely, possibly mixed with snow, becoming all rain after 8am. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees.

I was hoping that the upcoming weekend would be warm and sunny โ›บ for camping at Rennselearville State Forest but I don’t think it’s likely. I was figuring the fire risk would be low if there is snow on the ground. The fire ban applies only to brush burning not campfires kept small and in eye sight. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ when the sun will be setting at 7:17 pm with dusk at 7:44 pm. On that day in 2022, we had cold weather, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 27 and 18 degrees. Debbie downer. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1945.

March 20, 2023 7 AM Update

Good morning! Spring has come back around again. Well maybe not for another 11 hours though it will feel spring like later. Don’t do stupid shit in the mean time. Clear and 24 degrees for the morning walk in Delmar. ๐ŸŒ… There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Cold but clear start to the morning. ๐ŸŒ… I was not impressed when the heat kicked on when I got up. I know it’s cold this morning but the thermostat can’t read the forecast. I still haven’t gotten the February bill yet for gas and electric, I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ it was delayed because of the weather delaying the meter read but I’m curious about it and will have to check the website. I turned off the heat for hopefully the rest of the year. I like it cold but if it gets well below freezing I’ll have to turn it back up. Pretty morning being so clear with the sun rising. And soon it will be fairly warm out.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 2nd. South wind 6 to 16 mph becoming west in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 2012. 7 inches of snow fell back in 1944.โ„

I don’t know about you but I look forward to the sunshine ๐Ÿธ and the April like weather. And knowing that we are like a week and a half from this being the normal weather. By the number of red winged black birds around its a sign of what is to come. No spring peepers but I know it won’t be that far in the future ๐Ÿ”ฎ.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-23.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:30 pm with the sun in the west (264ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west (271ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:07 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 53 seconds with dusk around 7:35 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:09 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 14 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 17th. South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of -1 occurred back in 1956. Not very negative.

Saturday’s forecast isn’t wonderful. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 46. Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees. One week until April.

Looking ahead in early to mid April, there are 3 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:32 pm with dusk at 8:00 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. Should be good for going to the park after work. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

March 12, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Mostly sunny and 29 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 1.5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Got a fairly early start this morning ๐ŸŒ… to walk out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center to embrace as much of the time change as much as possible. I don’t want to get into the habit of sleeping in ๐Ÿ› but continuing to get up early and doing my walk. Plus it’s a nice morning with a giant sunrise about a half hour after I started my walk at 6:45 after having a good pan ๐Ÿณ of eggs ๐Ÿฅš and lots of vegetables. I’m mostly out of fruit so it was eggs today. Little less healthy then recent days but I’ll get plenty of steps today. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

I figure it’s best to walk early before the woods is soft and muddy, ๐ŸŒž as I’m sure the case will be by afternoon. Yesterday afternoon was nicer than expected but I stuck to my plan of going to the library ๐Ÿ“š in the afternoon because with the melting snow and mud it wouldn’t be a good day to go to Five Rivers plus this morning looked so nice.

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜€ โžก โ˜, with a high of 45 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 15th. North wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon. A year ago, we had heavy snow in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 2012. 30.4 inches of snow fell back in 1888.โ„

Red winged black birds ๐Ÿฆ are out but not in real big numbers yet as are the morning doves ๐Ÿ•Š and red headed woodpeckers. It was early enough this morning that Meads cows ๐Ÿฎ were all piled up in the cold sleeping and chewing their cud. No spring peepers ๐Ÿธ yet though ice is mostly off the ponds at this point.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 44ยฐ from the due south horizon (-26.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:21 pm with the sun in the west (260ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west (266ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:58 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:26 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:59 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a low of 31 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1885.

Maybe snow ๐ŸŒจ or rain โ˜” come Monday night into Tuesday but I think it might be too warm in the city to add up to much. Plus it’s March and if it’s pushing fifty with rain come Friday it will be gone come the weekend. I’m fine with that. I have a family ๐Ÿ‘ช event to go to next weekend so I can’t get out of town this weekend but maybe the following weekend. My truck is due for service fairly soon – oil change, transmission fluid and tire rotation come April before I start doing any big trips but Rennselearville isn’t too far for a weekend trip.

Today in 1933, was the first of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s fireside chats. ๐Ÿ“ป Back when everybody listened to the radio for their news and entertainment. You can still listen to them on the interwebs if you are curious.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Last Day of Winter ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 7:07 pm with dusk at 7:34 pm. On that day in 2022, we had cloudy, warm, rain showers and temperatures between 63 and 43 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 2012.

Lean To at Setting Sun

March 3, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Partly clear ๐ŸŒ… and 27 degrees for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธIn preparation for the next snow storm which is unfortunately coming on a Saturday when I like to walk ๐Ÿ‘ฃ out to Five Rivers.

Not the worse morning ever ๐ŸŒ„but I’m well aware it’s still early March and it will only get warmer through July. It’s March and we might still get some final gasps of winter but it can’t hold out for long.

Mornings are noticeably brighter now ๐Ÿ”† that is when the sun is shinning. That said it’s right in my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ on the Delmar bypass which is obnoxious. It only gets worse come spring though in a little over a week things will be dark unless I push my morning walk back to 6:45 which I might have to for a few weeks. ๐Ÿฆ I can hear the Red Winged black birds out so that’s a sign of spring ๐ŸŒธ.

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 39 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 27th. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 2002. 10.9 inches of snow fell back in 1994.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 40.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-30.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:09 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (255ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west (262ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:47 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:15 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east (97ยฐ) at an altitude of 45ยฐ from the horizon, 252,255 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:48 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a east-northeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain and snow, possibly mixed with sleet before 2am, then snow, possibly mixed with sleet. The snow could be heavy at times. Low of 32 degrees at 12am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. East wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1950.

Back in 1972, an airplane crashes in suburban Albany, off Holmesdale Ave in Albany (near Colvin Avenue and Washington Ave). Regional Carrier, ๐Ÿ›ฌ Mohawk Airlines Flight 405 crashes as a result of a control malfunction and insufficient training in emergency procedures. Also today in 1873, U.S. Congress enacts the Comstock Law, making it illegal to send any “obscene, lewd, or lascivious” books through the mail. ๐Ÿง‘โ€โš–๏ธ 150 years later, all the pornography is on the evening news. ๐Ÿ“ฐ And in 1991, an amateur video captures the beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police officers.

Tomorrow will rain, possibly mixed with snow. The snow could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒง High of 37 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 24th. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1919. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1971.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, โ˜€ with a high near 42. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph. That will be tough on the snow. I’m good with that fact though, I’m not that big of a fan of winter especially needing new skis ๐ŸŽฟ come next year. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 7:05 pm with dusk at 7:31 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2022, we had cloudy and temperatures between 45 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

February 9, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Firery red skies to the south east and 22 degrees for the morning walk. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind for now. ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธThen more rain. That should kill off most of the remaining snow.

Skies are certainly colorful for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ but it’s a sure sign of the coming clouds and rain. I will try to get as many steps as possible in before the rain, probably walking the Concourse and museum at lunch time so I have my ten k in without having to walk in the rain โ˜”.

Out walking by 6:30 which is good ๐Ÿฅž though it’s still to dark to walk before breakfast at six but maybe next week. I generally like walking earlier in the morning when it’s quieter out. Also if I walk first then I feel like time is less compressed in the morning. ๐Ÿ—œ

Today will rain, mainly after 11am. ๐ŸŒง High of 42 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 6th. Light south wind increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. I’m old enough to remember when it snowed in the winter but not this year. A year ago, we had snow in the morning, which became snow by afternoon. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 1925. 13.7 inches of snow fell back in 1906.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 32.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-38.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:39 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (244ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:19 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 5:48 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:22 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 42 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the south-southeast with gusts up to 30mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 36 seconds over today.

Tonight will rain likely before midnight, then a chance of showers, mainly between midnight and 5am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 6pm. 26 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. South wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Northwest wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

Maybe a bit breezy but the sunshine โ˜€ should be nice. Still think this should be a stay at home weekend though I’m considering stopping by Indian Lader Farms ๐Ÿ and doing some bird ๐Ÿฆ watching at the marsh out in Voorheesville though with the muck boots ๐Ÿ‘ข on.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Read Across America Day ๐Ÿ“š when the sun will be setting at 5:47 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had cold, mostly sunny and temperatures between 24 and 9 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 1991.

Sun Through the Trees

February 6, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Monday. Six more weeks until calendar spring ๐Ÿ—“. Probably best considered in relationship to a week before trout season. ๐ŸŽฃ Or as my dairy farming colleague from years ago told me he counted down the weeks until spring based on the loads of manure spread. ๐Ÿ’ฉ Seems appropriate for a winter Monday where the ground is likely to be thawed out by afternoon.

Partly cloudy at the freezing point in Delmar for the morning walk. โ›… Calm wind. The full ๐ŸŒ• moon is pretty overhead. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธNot a half bad morning for a walk. It’s February so the standards are pretty low. Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I accidentally made biscuits with pancake mix ๐Ÿช which didn’t turn out that bad although I should have taken them out of the oven a bit sooner. ๐Ÿฅš I thought about getting eggs yesterday when I got milk ๐Ÿฎ at Stewart’s as their price wasn’t that bad relatively speaking but I always associate eggs with greasy camp breakfasts with sausage and lots of cheese and vegetables ๐Ÿณ and I’m trying to cut calories in my forties. I do like eggs when camping ๐Ÿ• and want a heavier breakfast before a busy day of chopping wood and hiking.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 40 degrees at 12pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Light north wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 36 degrees. Warmer than last year today. Makes up for Saturday. The record high of 55 was set in 1991. 10.8 inches of snow fell back in 1978.โ„

I have a few projects on my desk ๐Ÿ“„ and an afternoon meeting so it should be a busy day though I don’t anticipate working late, though I’ll be taking the local ๐Ÿš as it’s a session day. My goal ๐Ÿฅ… is to get my steps done ๐Ÿ‘ฃ which if I head over to the Capitol or run some errands and then do my evening work I should be good.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 31.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-39.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:35 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (242ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:15 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 6 seconds with dusk around 5:44 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:18 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 34 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 31 seconds over today.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 19 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 19th. Maximum wind chill around 15 at 3am; North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 10 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1995.

Certainly a bit cooler tonight ๐ŸŒ• but it’s February and I’m not complaining as I’ve backed down my heat and it’s not so cold. The moonlight should be nice for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ and then I’ll retire to bed ๐Ÿ› fairly early. When I go to bed early even if I do wake up during the night I usually feel well rested the next day.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Still mild. Saturday, a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 36. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees. No real plans for the weekend ๐Ÿฆ though Five Rivers is always a nice walk ๐Ÿšถ and I like seeing the cows ๐Ÿฎ on Meads Road. Maybe a good weekend to observe the birds.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด when the sun will be setting at 5:34 pm with dusk at 6:01 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 28 and 13 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 37 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1930. Maybe a good week to head out of town.
