April 17, 2023 Morning

Just a little spring time rain ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

So far it’s been a pretty gentle rain though it’s expected to pick up mid morning. It will help with the progress of springtime but he done by the evening.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Rain showers a around and 58 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees. The skies will clear around 6 pm.

Out walking this morning ๐Ÿšถ before the rain gets heavy. 20 ยฝ miles on Saturday doing Blodgett Hill and only 9 ยผ yesterday though I ended up doing 3 ยฝ of them pushing a wheel chair around the Crossings in Colonie.

Today will have showers, mainly before 3pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 62 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 20th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 7am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2002. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1965.โ„

Not as warm today, but the same is true for all of week. ๐ŸŒท But not real cold either, heat is staying off. Last month my electric and gas bill fell to $61 which is great. With the base fees and the energy used by the refrigerator and hot water heater I doubt it will go much below that.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 57.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-13ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer.

Blodgett Hill Hike on Saturday was fun โ›ฐ but walking twenty miles really make it an all day activity. Definitely spring time with all the cow slurry ๐Ÿฎ I passed by from Stanton’s dairy getting all that cow manure and water ๐Ÿ’ฆ out on the fields before planting. Blodgett Hill was nice, they’ve removed a bunch more White Pine ๐ŸŽ from the summit improving views and the Pitch Pine – Scrub Oak habitat.

The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:01 pm with the sun in the west (279ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (285ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:39 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 8:08 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:44 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 56 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

After the Blodgett Hill Hike, I got thinking about getting my bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ roadworthy again. I did a careful analysis all that was broken and the process of replacing the broken spokes myself. Spoke replacement isn’t hard but I never had a cassette removal tool to pull the gears to get to the broken spokes. I also need to replace one of the derailer cables but I believe that I could be on the road and bicycle commuting by May. It unlocks a lot of possibilities for motor free travel in the region, especially nowadays with so many parks and bicycle routes. Plus I really like the idea of saving bus fares by riding my bike to work.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 30th. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1948.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 47 at 1pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until May ๐Ÿ•Š when the sun will be setting at 7:56 pm with dusk at 8:25 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

South Hunter Mountain

February 17, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Friday. Cloudy, dark and 51 degrees for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ in the land of the Delmaratian. Maybe the reason it’s so dark is that it’s still 6:15 and February but I’m moving. There is a south breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 5 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Grabbed my hoodie and headed out and then took it off. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ Only a few more hours of the warmth though before the mercury starts dropping. That said, it wont get that cold tonight as it’s still February but I don’t be leaving my windows open while at work today. But April is like 45 days off a fact I’m sure my friends in the government budget office are well aware of.

Today will rain before 4pm, then a chance of rain and snow. ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ Temperature rising to near 54 by 10am, then falling to around 33 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 20 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. You get a little of everything in that forecast. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 1981. 11.9 inches of snow fell back in 2003.โ„

No rain yet โ˜” but I’d say there is a decent chance I’ll taking the bus from the stop closest to where I live at 8 though who knows. Often they are overly pessimistic when it comes to rain. There are a ton of dog ๐Ÿถ walkers out bright and early today. Probably because it’s so mild.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 35.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-35.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:51 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (248ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (255ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 5:58 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:32 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 33 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 21. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 20 mph breeze โ›… from the northwest with gusts up to 30mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 19 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 19th. Maximum wind chill around 6 at 5am; Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 22 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 41 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1981. 6.3 inches of snow fell back in 2000.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. South wind 5 to 11 mph. ๐ŸŒฅ Rain showers later in the day for President’s Day, 50. Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees. Not bad for President’s Day Weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Probably heading out of town for the weekend ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ but I’m not set on it. Going to be mild for sure though after Sunday more cloudy. I sleep so much better after a few nights in the woods and I doubt I’ll have much of a chance come March until maybe later in April.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 7:05 pm with dusk at 7:31 pm (Daylight Savings Time). The average high temperature is 34 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

Clarksville South Road Heading Towards Dormansville

January 17, 2023 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 32 degrees in Delmar for the evening walk. โ˜ Calm wind. The sidewalks are a bit icy from the freezing rain earlier and I’m sure the news media is declaring the slippery roads a dire emergency that deserves governmental action but I’m like whatever, stay home or use caution. I’m glad I ran to the store ๐Ÿฌ yesterday.

The truth is with my new boots – which are finally broke in ๐Ÿฅพ I have decent traction on the ice and the freezing rain is kind of mixed in Delmar so it’s not super icy yet. And it’s getting warmer. I seriously thought about skipping my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but lately I’ve been on a roll with my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ and I didn’t want to have a down day. You know how those steps apps can get your butt moving.

It was a very typical psuedo Monday at the office ๐Ÿข. I ended up running late and catching the later local to work ๐Ÿš and then doing the walk of shame into my office though I don’t think any the other directors caught me coming in late. I’m usually one of the first ones in as I take the express bus and then walk the Plaza before work so I’m usually in well before nine. Busy left work at 6:15 pm and it was raining hard this evening. I’m definitely noticing that the days are getting longer and are sunnier in the evening.

Tonight will have a chance of freezing rain and sleet before midnight, then a chance of rain and sleet. Mostly cloudy โ›…, with a low of 33 degrees at 8pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -19 occurred back in 1957.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 18% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Thursday, February 2. The darkest hour is at 12:06 am, followed by dawn at 6:51 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:23 am in the east-southeast (118ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 18 seconds. Sunrise is 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:06 am with sun in the southeast (126ยฐ). Not going to be a particularly nice morning though. Tonight will have 14 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 46 seconds over last night.

I was reading that January 22nd is the Lunar New Year ๐ŸŒ‘ that is the big Chinese celebration that the western press either will chew out saying it’s going to lead to bad air pollution in China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ or as a super spreader event for the COVID with everybody having some fun. ๐ŸŽ‡ As because everybody in the press is a Debbie Downer about fun when it’s not America ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Honestly though I’m excited about the year of the rabbit ๐Ÿฐ. I was reading the horoscopes for the year, the complete psuedo science they are, just for fun.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 8am, then a chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 42 degrees at 11am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 6th. Light west wind increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1973. 7.9 inches of snow fell back in 1891.โ„

In four weeks on February 14 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) at 5:27 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes and 4 seconds later then tonight. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 1946.

Looking ahead, Valentines Day โค๏ธ is in 4 weeks, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is a month away, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is in 6 weeks, St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 2 months, First Day of Spring ๐Ÿ’ฎ is in 9 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 10 weeks, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 4 months, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 22 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 24 weeks, World Population Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง is in 25 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 28 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 8 months, Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ is in 41 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 43 weeks, Election Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 43 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 46 weeks and Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 49 weeks.
