As they say, all things must come to an end

The 2023 NY legislative session included. Nothing is longer than the present moment but nothing is quite as fleeting. But the best one could do is put one foot in front of another and apply more paint and bondo over the rust holes. I’m looking forward to summer and not having to wear my loose fitting dress shirts anymore, knowing that I can catch the 5 o’clock home every day.

Good morning! Today 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ . I guess that’s a sign of spring even if the mercury isn’t agreeing. Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

I got a good night’s sleep ๐Ÿ› that is relatively speaking but I’m still dragging my ass on the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ a few minutes late again. ๐Ÿข Maybe I’m fearing the week to come ๐Ÿ˜ฑ but I don’t know why as the latest night last week was 6 pm and often on the real late nights I can work from home.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 75 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 31st. Maximum dew point of 48 at 10am. North wind 5 to 11 mph. I still haven’t needed to get my fan out of the closet. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

Yesterday I made a 1 lb of black beans ๐Ÿฒ and baked up a bunch of chicken and asparagus for the week to come. I have plenty of rice ๐Ÿš and lentils cooked for the first half of the week plus a few pounds of spinach and kale in the freezer, along with lots of peppers, tomatoes and onions. I may need more fresh fruit before the week is done but I anticipate getting my truck and driving in on some of the late nights. Also need toothpaste ๐Ÿฆท but I’ll squeeze what I can out of the tube or cut open to get anything remaining out of the tube.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:47 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:03 pm, which is 42 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:49 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 67 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 3 seconds over yesterday.

Barley and quinoa with frozen raspberries for breakfast ๐Ÿฅฃ this morning. I was hoping to find Juneberries in the woods this weekend without much luck. I think where I was looking has gotten too shaded in recent years. ๐Ÿ“ Then iron my pants and shirt while cooking ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธ, shower ๐Ÿšฟ and catch the bus downtown. ๐Ÿš Going to try to do this without racing ๐Ÿ out the door ๐Ÿšช today. Found another tick on me this morning. ๐Ÿœ Finished off the rest of the barley and quinoa, did a better job rinsing the quinoa which made it less bitter. I still need a better strainer for that.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 29th. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6am. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1971.

Packed both a lunch and dinner tonight for work. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿง† Decided on a lighter lunch, with out the carbs as it seems like lately I’ve been overdoing it. Red onions, peppers, black beans for lunch. Dinner is rice, black beans, chicken, asparagus and kale. I’m worried about back sliding after last week. ๐Ÿคฐ๐ŸผPlus I know with work today it will be a fairly sedintary day, though I’ll try to get over to the legislative office building and Capitol during the day to get my steps in. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ I really want to walk at least five miles today. 3 miles so far.

A picture perfect weekend on tap for the Gas Up ๐Ÿšœ. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 54 at 8pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 55 at 9am. Should be fun with dad on Saturday and maybe I’ll hammock camp on Saturday night. Maybe go back to Gas Up โ›ฝ myself on Sunday after camping to see the parade. Just a thought. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 73 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1995.

Happy Lupine Festival Day! ๐Ÿฆ‹

Out walking this morning right at six o’clock and then there are more Committee Agendas and legislation to review for work while eating breakfast and sipping coffee out back before tabling a good portion of the day the Lupine Festival for Save the Pine Bush. Going to try to find time to walk 8 miles today in between the rain drops, though I doubt I’ll melt.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! But the work never stops until some time after June 10th or so I tell myself. Cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Not so cold this morning for the walk ๐Ÿšถ. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 3 am.

I was up pretty early this morning ๐ŸŒ… but then again this time of year the sun rise is early. Stumbled around a bit but now I’m going again and out walking ๐Ÿšถ. I figured walk first then breakfast ๐Ÿณ which will be eggs, a shit ton of spinach along with orange and red peppers and onions and probably tomatoes ๐Ÿ… as you can’t forget them.

Today will have showers likely, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 69 degrees at 1pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 9th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Okay, New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.

So yes a busy Saturday ahead. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Lots of things to do. One thing I can ๐Ÿฅซ check off my list โ˜‘ is I ended up grocery shopping ๐Ÿ›’ last night rather than Sunday. I wanted to get some more apples ๐Ÿ and I noticed the store was freshly stocked so I figured get it done. That way I’ll be down by the end of the week next week and can go shopping again if I decide to head out of town to camp โ›บ. I don’t know though with the best campsites likely taken and the black flies. ๐Ÿœ Plus I told John whose wife is sick this weekend I would probably come up next weekend. Still waiting on parts for my bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ, I don’t see myself wrenching it this weekend.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-3.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:35 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (292ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

I got cranberry beans soaking in the refrigerator today, ๐ŸฒI plan to cook them either tonight or tomorrow to add to meals throughout the week. Salmon with rice, kale, onions and peppers for dinner tonight. ๐Ÿ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (299ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:16 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 8:48 pm, which is one minute later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (296ยฐ) at an altitude of 10ยฐ from the horizon, 245,175 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:30 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Last night twice the express bus ๐Ÿšhad to pull over on the shoulder of the road because the battery box door kept opening up. Both on Interstate 787 and the Delmar bypass. Poor driver had to get out on the shoulder with racing traffic going by and try to secure it. The second time, a CDTA supervisor in his personal vehicle saw the breakdown and stopped by. One of the passengers joked with only three passengers he could have just given us a ride home ๐Ÿก. Friday usually is very light on the bus, a lot of people work from home or like me often head out of town.

I think the Voorheesville bus hasn’t rebuilt it’s ridership enough, I bet come mid June it will be back to starting and ending at the Park and Ride. ๐Ÿš It’s tough in the era of hybrid work and work from home. I’m okay with that, as I like the walk especially on non session days and it will be more timely โŒš as the driver for the 7:30 run will dead head back and do the 8:30 run downtown and the same with me 4 pm and 5 pm route. While drivers can always hit traffic on Southern Boulevard or 787, with that dead head the layover is long enough to avoid most delays unlike running a city route before. โ˜บ

Tonight will have showers, mainly before 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 50 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 19th. South wind around 7 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1949.

I keep watching as the forecast for Memorial Day Weekend ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ gets warmer and sunnier but I’m afraid I’ll have to work. Maybe my best plan remains to hammock camp โ›บ a night or two quite primatively locally. I’ll figure it out as those days get closer. I’m just really hoping for a nice Juneteenth Weekend at the Potholers and House Pond Campsite. It could rain though. Summer is not done yet! Though only 105 days remain until the Labor Day Weekend.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. I’m not sure whose on the ballot locally but I could check at the county board of elections website. I will want to Early Vote because they moved my Election Day site to the Town Park which isn’t convenient for me when I’m busy on Election Day.

December 10, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ! Two weeks to Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ…. Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Didn’t sleep very well last night ๐ŸŒƒ, but breakfast and coffee is cooking now. ๐Ÿฅž Pancakes as usual. ๐Ÿฎ Ran out of milk, I was going to get it after my evening walk but I didn’t. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I wasn’t sure I wouldn’t be able to make my morning walk as I didn’t get a real early start but I’m walking. My headphones ๐ŸŽง aren’t working real well but so be it. Mild morning so I’m just wearing the vest. Feels more like early April than December.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 43 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 28th. Northwest wind 10 to 16 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1966. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

I am working downtown today at least for a few hours ๐Ÿ’ผ, and I’m obviously not thrilled about riding the bus ๐Ÿš during a major uptick of pandemic, where they are reminding us to sign in and out for contact tracing purposes. ๐Ÿ‘พHI, we’re from the government and we want you to know we are putting under arrest as you might have a virus that you may die from. ๐Ÿ“ž That Missouri beef farmer I follow on YouTube had a good quarrentine from his deer ๐ŸฆŒ blind I heard. At one level I will be glad when the vaccine is widely available.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:49 am with sun having an altitude of 24.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:30 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 48 seconds over yesterday.

This evening I am doing more of the interview with John Wolcott ๐Ÿ“žover a Zoom although I will just be doing the audio because I haven’t upgraded my phone yet for the extra data. Two weeks though. Lately though I’ve already started to burn through a lot of data on my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ because it’s too cold to work from the library. I will definitely need the extra data come January when work is busier and it’s too cold to work down at the library parking lot.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 27 degrees at 2am. Four degrees above normal, whichn0 is similar to a typical night around December 2nd. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1988.

Today in 1978, Prime Minister of Israel Menachem Begin and President of Egypt Anwar Sadat are jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize ๐Ÿ•Š for their work ending the Arab-Isreali conflict. Also, in 1817 Mississippi becomes the 20th U.S. state. ๐Ÿด๓ ต๓ ณ๓ ญ๓ ณ๓ ฟ

Showers this weekend. โ˜” Saturday, a slight chance of showers after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 45. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… when the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm with dusk at 4:58 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 42 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 2015.

Setting Sun 2

May 14, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 41 degrees. The skies will clear Saturday around 4 am. Came back inside when it started to rain.

Where to start? ๐Ÿฐ I find myself in an internet rabbit hole first about Contact Tracing – which creeps me out because you know it will enable bad behavior on the government’s part and then electric motors. That article I shared earlier about fans and the odd way they are set up with 3-2-1 speeds with shaded pole motors. That said, I’m surprised that fan manufacturers haven’t adopted more efficient inverter driver three phase motors or even DC brushless motors but I guess that adds a lot of complexity over shaded pole motors for only a little less energy loss.

This evening I went for a walk at the Schiffendecker Farm Preserve ๐Ÿฆ behind Walmart and Lowes. I didn’t have high expectations for the gully preserve – it’s the lands behind the big box that the developers forfeited as they couldn’t back fill in a creek.

After that I went to Walmart which was a zoo ๐Ÿ…despite going there on the off hour. They didn’t have any of the supplies I needed besides contact solution – mostly things that I legitimately need like socks, empty spray bottle for the Martin’s Permethrin to apply to clothes for ticks, headphones to replace the ones that are falling apart, and a replacement propane hose for the leaky one. I’ll have to order online. Seems wasteful when in normal times this is the list of random things I would get at Wally World. ๐Ÿ“ƒ I did get some bulk foods ๐Ÿฒ but I’m done with shopping at Walmart now until the pandemic is over. My choice going forward is going to be Aldi for quick in and out or if I can’t get across the river or want beer, then Hannaford or Price Chopper. ๐Ÿป That said, I only drink beer when I camp these days. I so hate shopping these days with the bandana on my face as it blocks my view.

Tonight will have showers. ๐ŸŒง Low of 53 degrees at 2am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 51 at 6am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 6 to 8 mph. Windows are open all night tonight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 31 occurred back in 1977.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 45% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:02 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:35 am in the east-northeast (63ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 3 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:15 am with sun in the east-northeast (70ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 22 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 4 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 78 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 14th. Going to a nice warm day tomorrow with a touch of humidity. Maximum dew point of 62 at 4pm. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

No camping this weekend. โ›บ I’m inclined to stay home for Memorial Day Weekend as the weather and the bugs usually suck for that weekend ๐Ÿœ and it’s likely to be crowded in the back country with the parks closed but I’ll watch the forecast and decide. If I do head out of town that weekend, I’ll probably take next Friday off. I probably should decide tomorrow but I’ll watch the forecast and I can probably still get it off if I ask Monday. I’m more inclined to take the following Friday off and celebrate my Memorial Day Weekend a week late. But all depends on forecast and the timing of my office ๐Ÿข reopening downtown and my work schedule. June may be a busy month for me.

In four weeks on June 11 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:33 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 23 minutes and 10 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 73 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 77 and 55 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1947.

Looking ahead, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is a month away.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 8 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Nice Way To Spend An Evening

Truck Camping On Leonard Hill

Up by the Leonard Hill Fire Tower, there is a clearing cut into the hillside, and an area where there is a little fire place, and some grass that never grows that tall. It’s obvious that people camp up here from time to time, to enjoy the beautiful sunset, and myself I’ve been itching to watch a sunset from here for some time.

Watching the Rain Come In

While on June 5th, the weather was somewhat cloudy, as thunderstorm after thunderstorm came rolling through the valleys and mountains alike, it actually turned out to be a remarkably beautiful evening. with a beautiful sunset into the clouds. The views from Leonard Hill where as spectacular as always.

The Truck

Looking at my camping set up.

Looking at the Campsite

The rain lead to some beautiful misty sky scapes, especially as the sun was lowering in the sky. Here is Rossman Hill, where I had camped deep in the valley the previous night.

Rossman Hills in the Fog

And here Blenheim Mountain with the Blenheim Upper Power Project Reservoir above it.

Blenhium Mountain

It was windy up there, but the little White Gas Coleman Stove did just find boiling the water for the pasta I was cooking up for dinner. I did stick it behind this little rock to provide a little more shelter from the wind, but regardless cooked it quickly.

Cooking Dinner

With the wind racing up the hill with coming front, I kept the fire very small and a lot of water nearby. It had been raining throughout the day, so things weren’t particularly flammable, but with the winds being so strong, it was a bit frightening.

Sitting at a Campfire

I watched the sunset into the valley while the very small campfire roared away with the winds whipping away. It wasn’t particularly cool, but by 8 PM, I did feel it neccessary to put on a long-sleeved shirt.

Rays of Sun Through the Trees

The sun setting through the trees.

Sunsets Through the Trees

With the clouds starting to over take the sun.

 Sun in the Clouds

And eventually a front comes through, making the sun set before it normally would, quite far to the north, over Rossman Hill.

Front Covers the Sunset

The view after sunset. You can just barely make out the mountains, from Utsayathana to the left, to Blenheim and the Reservoir in the center, to Burnt-Rossman Hills on the right.

After Sunset

The truck truck and camping gear after dark.

Camping on Leonard Hill

Awaking in the morning to pounding rain, which fortunately let up into a relatively thick fog by the time I got up in the morning. Here is a view out the back window of the truck cap.

First View This Morning

My “night stand” in the truck. Books, radio, flashlight, even fan. I’m as well prepared as I would be at home for sure. That light has only a 9-watt florescent bulb in it, although if I ever needed more light, I have two other lead-lamps with 26-watt florescent in them to illuminate the night.

Under the Cap

Packing up my gear on the foggy morning.

Getting Up and Packing Up Gear

The rain and fog pretty much obstructed the view by morning.

Rain Looking Off Leonard Hill

The farther I got down the mountain, the worst the weather got on the truck trail. A little farther down the mountain, the fog was so bad, I had to drive really slow with my truck.

Driving Down Truck Trail in Heavy Fog

Here is a map of where I camped on top of Leonard Hill.

January

The month of January is the coldest month of the year, if the thermometer is to be believed. It’s not the grayest or snowiest month of the year, or even the most harshest month of the year (a time reserved for February). While the days are slowly getting longer in January, the growth in daylight is small compared to months to come.

Cold on Snake Mountain.

We will go out skiing and snowshoeing, spending time riding snowmobiles and enjoying nature’s gift of the snow. It won’t always be perfect weather, but like every season we must make the most of it. It’s winter, and it only lasts for about half of the year in New York State.

Moving Down the Hill

There will be days where we will go outside, and the mercury won’t even reach 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and the wind is whipping down from the North. There will be days and weeks when the roads are covered with ice and snow. People will struggle to find parking spots in the city, as parking spots are replaced with ice covered patches and snow banks. Driving will only be nice this time of year, because the insides of cars will be toasty. It’s going to be very winter-like out there for the next month.

Southern Adirondacks

At the same time, there will be the much needed winter thaw. We might finally for a few days loose all of the snow, and it get up into the balmy 40 degrees range. Winter doesn’t always mean that it’s going to be supercold, and indeed, we must certainly will see a brief mud season during January for a couple of days when the sun makes us think of a false spring.

Stream Down

January is when we get over the Christmas Season high. The lights on the trees are taken off, the Christmas trees are dumped into the brush pile to be chipped sometime when spring comes in another five months. The colorful wrapping the presents have come in are now charred down to nothing but ash. New Years Eve celebrations are just a memory, as we wake up hung over on this first day of the year.

Snow Covered Woods

We will all promise ourselves to do better this year then last year. Whether or not we will live up to it in the new year, is a totally different thing. Maybe we will do good for this month of January, then fall down in subsequent months. Regardless, in many ways, January is a month of great hope that we can change and overcome our human fallacies. A benchmark, that is pretty meaningless, but one we must find ourselves embracing every year.
