December 14, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Looks like it’s going to be a cold and snowy week coming up. Next Monday is First Day of Winter ☃️. Cloudy and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 9 pm. ☃️

It looks this week will have some snow 🌨 but the question remains how much. Nothing yet this morning but maybe some later on today. Only time will tell. Do we get just a dusting or a few inches from the storm on Wednesday evening? I am not really sure but I’m leaning towards less snow ⛄ and more cold. Even if we get snow I’m not seeing it last because I think there is a warming trend ahead. But what do I know, I’m biased as I want to camp during Christmas holiday 🎄 in the Adirondacks.

Today will snow have snow showers, mainly before 11am. Cloudy 🌨, with a high of 35 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 17th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1901. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.❄

As I was running 🏃🏻 a bit late, I did my morning walk over at the Swift Preserve. Spotted a red tail hawk which almost grabbed a chipmunk 🐿 there but he got away. 🐦 No bluebirds today but a bunch of house sparrows were hanging out in the preserve today. It’s nice having that little area so close to home, even if it’s just some wetlands that a developer wasn’t allowed to develop.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:51 am with sun having an altitude of 24.1° from the due south horizon (-46.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Today in 1994, started construction begins on the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze river.🌊 The Three Gorges Dam has been the world’s largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW) since 2012. ⚡ In 2014, the dam generated 98.8 terawatt-hours (TWh) and had the world record, but was surpassed by the Itaipú Dam, which set the new world record in 2016, producing 103.1 TWh. 🏛️Also, today was a notable date in civil rights history, with the release of the Heart of Atlanta Motel, Inc. v. As previously noted, next Monday is First Day of Winter ☃️ when the sun will be setting at 4:25 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm. December 10, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy 7:15 AM Sunrise ⌛️! Two weeks to Christmas Eve 🎅. Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. 🍃. There is a inch of snow on the ground. ☃ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 8 pm. ☃️

Didn’t sleep very well last night 🌃, but breakfast and coffee is cooking now. 🥞 Pancakes as usual. 🐮 Ran out of milk, I was going to get it after my evening walk but I didn’t. 🚶🏻 I wasn’t sure I wouldn’t be able to make my morning walk as I didn’t get a real early start but I’m walking. My headphones 🎧 aren’t working real well but so be it. Mild morning so I’m just wearing the vest. Feels more like early April than December.

I am working downtown today at least for a few hours 💼, and I’m obviously not thrilled about riding the bus 🚍 during a major uptick of pandemic, where they are reminding us to sign in and out for contact tracing purposes. 👾HI, we’re from the government and we want you to know we are putting under arrest as you might have a virus that you may die from. 📞 That Missouri beef farmer I follow on YouTube had a good quarrentine from his deer 🦌 blind I heard. At one level I will be glad when the vaccine is widely available.

I will definitely need the extra data come January when work is busier and it’s too cold to work down at the library parking lot.

Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees. Not sure what my plans are for the weekend, but I am still going to evaluate it. I want to do a Central NY trip, but I’m not sure I’m in a rush to get out camping this weekend. But who knows if the weather is nice.

On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny skies and temperatures between 66 and 44 degrees. It was nice in Pennsylvania that day, but a bit cloudier. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. February 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. ☃ Temperatures will drop below freezing around 3 am. ☃️

I went over to John Wolcott house for a few hours after work 🔎and continued working on his files. 📂 It’s been well over a year, one night most weeks. Learned a lot. I’ve started to tape record the audio 🔉 to capture some of our conversations. Now to just finish up the labels 🔖.

That bus really was smoking 💨 bad this evening. 🚍 I wonder if it’s an issue with the particle trap, I didn’t see it smoking downtown when I got one but I swear I’ve seen that bus smoking before but not all of the time. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of it at the end of my walk but no such luck.

Mild evening, I went for my evening walk 🚶. Not too cold out which is nice. I listened to a bit of President’s State of the Union address before turning it off. Honestly I’m hoping it’s Trump’s final state of the union and we will have a new president giving an inauguration address next year. 📝 I think the delayed results of the democratic caucus in Iowa kind of took all of the air out of the news cycle for the president. I’m sure he will be acquitted of the removal process later this week and hopefully we’ll have a new president soon.

Tonight will be cloudy ☁, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Northwest wind around 10 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1918.
