The mornings and evenings are dark but it’s hot ๐ŸŒ‡

Not so much heat and humidity at this hour but certainly later on. That said with the earlier sunsets and lower sun angle it cools off by evening but still rather sticky.

Good morning! What day is it? A dark start to the Hump Day, of course. Held off my morning walk for a while, because it was so dark. Fog ๐ŸŒซ and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY for the morning walk in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends next Tuesday around noontime. ๐Ÿ˜“ Summer arrived in September.

Out walking this morning, though I held off a bit before it got a brighter out. ๐ŸŒ‡ In the mean time I was down in my kitchen kneading some quick-rise dough with baking powder to make a crust to use with the eggs, spinach, and tomatoes. ๐Ÿ… Mom brought over a big basket of tomatoes, which not wanting them to go bad, I took several of the paste tomatoes ran them through the food processor, added Italian spices and roasted red pepper a bit of salt, cooked them down in a frying pan ๐Ÿฅ˜ with onions, then fried up some eggs and put it on top with parmigiana cheese. Good breakfast. Wish I had made up more coffee rather then reheating what I have but time is getting late — and I’m drousey.

Going to ride Blackie to work again ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ and then probably take the bus back home in the evening as it’s going to be another hot one. Burn some calories, save a buck thirty. It’s always nice going down to the gorge, and the Madison Avenue Hill isn’t that bad now I’ve done it a lot of times. ๐ŸšŒ I figure in the evening, I’ll ride down to the old Union Station on Broadway, catch the express back home. It wouldn’t be pleasant paddling through the gorge, though neither will be the traffic riding on the bus this evening, but at least it will be air conditioned most likely and I’m not driving. ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿš— ๐Ÿš™ ๐Ÿš• ๐ŸšŒ

Today will be sunny and hot โ˜€, with a high of 91 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. Heat index values as high as 97. Yuck. I left the shades down in my office earlier to keep things nice a cool. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2018.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 53.9° from the due south horizon (-16.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:46 pm with the sun in the west (273°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (280°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:24 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 7:50 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:27 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 84 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. The heat index around sunset will be 68. โ›ฑ There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 68 degrees at 5am. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 8pm. Calm wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1962.

Last night I got home after taking the bus ๐Ÿš had a quick dinner, ran down to the library ๐Ÿ“š and got the books I had on reserve, came home sat in bed next to the fan ๐Ÿ› read for a while and was asleep by nine. Tired and it was hot. I think this was the first really hot and humid day of the summer. In September, after Labor Day I know. Eat probably too much frozen mango and peaches but it made things nice and cool.

Unstable but slightly cooler weather for the weekend. โ›ˆ๏ธ Saturday, showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Maximum dew point of 73 at 12pm. Sunday, a chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Maximum dew point of 69 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees.

This weekend, while not looking all that great, might still be good for heading out to Thacher Park on the Nature Bus ๐ŸšŒ for a while and doing some biking ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ and reading ๐Ÿ“š in the hammock, and enjoying things, assuming it’s not too wet. Certainly it’s easy and quick now with the more direct bus to Thacher Park and the bike. Plus it would be good to cut expenses at least this week, because it’s been an expensive few weeks with all the trips I’ve been doing plus the healthier food I’m putting into my body. ๐Ÿ I wasn’t thrilled to hear that people expect gas prices to remain high all autumn — that said I”m still thinking about some kind of big autumn trip with lots of smaller ones, before snow flies. But if all else fails, there’s always Rensselearville State Forest for a weekend trip.

Looking ahead but maybe not forward to the darkness, are 3 weeks until More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.

Red Tailed Hawk

Lately I've been doing more evening bird watching hikes at the Elm Avenue Town Park after work. Spotted this nice red tail hawk on one of the fingers of the Phillipin Kill.

February 15, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Clear and 58 degrees for evening walk in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a south breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 41 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Friday around 4 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Not a half bad evening for February. ๐ŸŒŸ The skies are full of stars and it’s quite mild. It was nice having the windows open today and enjoying some fresh air before it gets cold again after the rain tomorrow. โ˜” Then cold come Friday but bouncing back to normal by the weekend. After my walk I’ll sit out back until nine. ๐Ÿ› Going to close my windows then bed time.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. 23 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. South wind 7 to 11 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Too good to be true, won’t last. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became mist by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1943.

Still enjoying the almost door to door service ๐Ÿšof the express Voorheesville bus. ๐Ÿš Great on session days but also like tomorrow evening when it rains. โ˜” That said, I do worry about not getting in as many steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ without walking to the Park and Ride but on nice days I still can. I was happy ๐Ÿ˜Š to see somebody on the bus today actually coming from Voorheesville as I know the bus I take isn’t as popular as earlier but I hope it doesn’t get canceled right away as long as there are other riders.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 22% illuminated. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Friday, March 3. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:25 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:54 am in the east-southeast (107ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 1 seconds.

It was a quiet ๐Ÿคซ half of the day at work until a big project came in mid afternoon. Sometimes it’s so quiet and then so busy, ๐Ÿ–ฅ but when I have down time I try to use it well to analyze data, and learn new data science methods and sources of data. I’ve learned a lot of clever techniques to automate or at least speed up things at work. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ I might not be a PhD in data science but I’m learning some valuable techniques using R to mine a lot of value out of data.

Sunrise is one minute and 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:33 am with sun in the east-southeast (114ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 20 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over last night.

Today was such a nice day ๐Ÿข but I was stuck in my office all day except when I went to the farmers market to get mushrooms ๐Ÿ„ and did a short walk ๐Ÿšถ on the Plaza. Got home and spent more time reading ๐Ÿ“– up about machine learning. ๐Ÿค– Too bad the weekend isn’t as good looking.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒฅ , with a high of 55 degrees at 1pm. 19 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became mist by afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 2006. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1958.โ„

I decided that I can do my state taxes on paper ๐Ÿ“„ to avoid paying to file. There is a few different open source things to compute my federal taxes, and then once they are done the state is easy to do. I like paper in the sense it’s easier to carefully review. I feel like the online services you spit too much of your information into a black box ๐Ÿ—ƒ and it spits it back out and you don’t really know if it’s done right. I can compare to last year – forms are the same but the numbers ๐Ÿ”ข now are just slightly higher or maybe not if I reduced things down enough by retirement plan deductions.

In four weeks on March 15 the sun will be setting in the west (268ยฐ) at 7:02 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 34 minutes and 29 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had cold, mostly sunny and temperatures between 30 and 11 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 45 and 26 degrees. The record high of 72 degrees was set back in 2019.

Looking ahead, March ๐ŸŒจ is in two weeks on Wednesday, Ides of March โœ is a month away, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 2 months, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 12 weeks, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 13 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 18 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 20 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 20 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 5 months, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 28 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 32 weeks, Last Sunset After 6:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 33 weeks, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 37 weeks, November ๐Ÿฅง is in 37 weeks, Day After Election Day ๐Ÿ›€ is in 38 weeks, Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is in 42 weeks and Bill of Rights Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 10 months.

February 14, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Happy Valentines Day Eve. February is halfway done and tomorrow is going to be warm enough to open up the windows and let some fresh air in. That makes me happy.

Mostly clear and 43 degrees for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ here in Delmar. ๐ŸŒƒ Calm wind. With those clear skies cooling off quickly. But it will rebound quickly tomorrow as we have our first real spring thaw.

I was pleasantly surprised that I got released at 5 o’clock on this Valentines Day โ™ฅ and was able to take the express bus ๐Ÿš home. It’s nice having that option on a session day though who knows how long it will last as there isn’t a lot of riders right now heading out to Slingerlands or Voorheesville at least not on 5 pm bus which is less popular than the earlier express bus. The thing is that some of the former riders retired and more people nowadays are able to do hybrid or work from home ๐Ÿก. Our department wants that option but the people up top say no. Getting hard though to be competitive without that option.

It was annoying this morning that the ramp to 787 was closed again. ๐Ÿšง I wish they could wait until the off hours or at least until the end of rush hour. I don’t understand their decision making process on that. To boot the express bus ๐Ÿš was 20 minutes late due to the driver making a wrong term. I ended up walking ๐Ÿšถ most of the way to the Park and Ride as I wanted to get more steps in and it was a very pleasant morning.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 31 degrees at 1am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1943.

Got paid today ๐Ÿ’ต and it looks like my bills aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. I might actually have a bit extra, I might start adding more to the savings account, the first time I’ve saved money in a year but interest rates are going up and I’m concerned more about mid range expenses.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 33% illuminated. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Thursday, March 2. The darkest hour is at 12:11 am, followed by dawn at 6:26 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:55 am in the east-southeast (107ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:35 am with sun in the east-southeast (114ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 23 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over last night.

Been really digging into the ins and outs of machine learning. ๐Ÿค– Lately I’ve been about better ways to target ๐ŸŽฏ and estimate voting patterns using election results and the enrollment rolls. It would be interesting if you could target based on actual past results and demographics. I have used imputation in the past for making maps and are considering other ways I could use machine learning to better understand data. Decision trees ๐ŸŽ„ and random forests are particularly interesting methods.

Tomorrow will be cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒƒ, with a high of 58 degrees at 3pm. 22 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 12th. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 23 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 2006. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

I think tomorrow will be a good day to have the windows open ๐Ÿ”ณ and let all that fresh air in. ๐Ÿƒ While I’ll probably only open windows without storm windows it should be nice to enjoy the fresh air.

In four weeks on March 14 the sun will be setting in the west (268ยฐ) at 7:01 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 34 minutes and 36 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 41 and 19 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 44 and 25 degrees. The record high of 75 degrees was set back in 1946.

Looking ahead, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is Next Tuesday, First Day of Spring ๐Ÿ’ฎ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 6 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 3 months, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 18 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 20 weeks, World Population Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง is in 21 weeks, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 5 months, August ๐ŸŒป is in 24 weeks, Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ is in 37 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 9 months, Election Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 9 months, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 42 weeks and Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 45 weeks.

Starting Up the Spruceton Trail

Good Evening – August 15, 2021

Good evening! Sitting on the Kane Firetower waiting for the sun to set ๐Ÿ—ผ

Partly clear and 69 degrees at the Kane Mountain Firetower. Light breeze. The dew point is 51 degrees. A very clear evening ๐ŸŒƒ for sure, good for watching the sunset. With the low dew point I can easily see the other side of the Mohawk Valley including some of the silos on the Schoharie side. Also the wind turbines on the ridge outside of the Adirondack Park.

It’s been a nice weekend up north, โ˜บ with way too many beer boiled clams, sausage and sweet corn ๐Ÿฆช๐Ÿป๐ŸŒฝ and swimming ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ holes and about 25 miles of hiking – well over 15 miles was today alone. Camped at the House Pond Campsite 2 again. Today I hiked from Seeley Road in Knapville to Dexter Lake and then to Spectacle Lake and then to Waters Mill Pond. Then about two hours in the evening cooling off in the Potholers, followed by a sunset hike up Kane Mountain. Now to drive home by 10 pm.

Yesterday, I hiked back to House Pond which had a lot of blow down over parts of the trail. ๐ŸŽ‹ There was a bad thunderstorm โ›ˆ in July that I remember seeing on the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ that caused some big trees to come down, but at least it didn’t wash out the road much or if it did Stratford had already fixed it. Looks like they had to saw and remove multiple trees off Piseco-Powley Road that had came down it and I could hear them cutting downed trees at the hunting camp down the road and I saw them leaving with several pickup trucks full of wood.

Also yesterday I hiked along the Edick Road Snowmobile Trail and then back to Edick Road Campsite #1 out along the ledge overlooking the East Canada Creek, spotting a photographing a doe up close. ๐ŸฆŒ I climbed down the gorge wall and watched the various birds ๐Ÿฆ in the grass lands along that grassy part of the river. Then more clams, corn and sausage. And back to Potholers.

Friday was even more lazy — it was fairly hot. Many hours reading and learning more about Python, ๐Ÿ and then I hiked to Potholers. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ Then after I got back to camp, I swam at the swimming hole across the road from House Pond Campsite 2 until dusk, listening to a podcast, started a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ had more clams, ๐Ÿ•น laid back in hammock until it started to pour ๐ŸŒง and then hung out under the tarp as it rained some more listening to podcasts until 11 PM.

Thursday, was a rather late start because it was so humid and I was on vacation and was lazy. I screwed up and didn’t get my turn signal on time for Sandell Farm’s to get sweet corn, and ended up going to Rogers Orchard to get sweet corn and blueberries. ๐ŸŽ Then I ended up running to Wally World and forgetting the main reason I wanted to go there — to get coffee. โ˜• I like the large coffee containers they have there not just because they are inexpensive on a per pound basis, they make great containers for making ice in for camping. Or “donating” to the state to put toilet paper in the outhouses, to keep the racoons from shredding it. ๐Ÿšฝ I was hoping to check out Willie Marsh ๐Ÿธ but I got on the wrong road, so I didn’t go by there. I finally got camp around 12:30, set things up, made my first batch of clams, ๐Ÿ•น and they were good. Swam in the swimming hole across the way from House Pond Campsite, ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ which might not be the potholers, but it’s right next door. Sat back in the hammock for a while listening to some music ๐ŸŽผ and the news ๐Ÿ“ป, then had a fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ The wood sure was wet that first night, and it was a bit smokey until I got it going well.

Sunset on Seneca Lake

On Monday evening, I sat in Clute Park watching the sunset. It was a nice sunset, as a sailboat sailed by. Not as red as what they saw back east, or so I am told from the wildfire smoke.

Taken on Thursday July 29, 2021 at Watkins Glen.

June 20, 2021 Evening

Good evening! Partly clear and 82 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. Back home again, as John Denver once sung. ๐ŸŽถ Remarkably hot, especially now that I am back home after having a nice Sunday dinner at the folks house. ๐Ÿ‘• Slowly unpacking my gear from camping, taking steps to drink and cool down.

Well, happy summer folks. โ˜บ The next ten weeks through Labor Day Weekend are considered real summer when the state parks pools are open and the days are relatively long. ๐Ÿ– Nice hot summer days to spend at the pool or swimming hole. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ Do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ late into the night.

It was a beautiful trip back across the Mohawk Valley and through the Schoharie Valley. Everything was very green and lush.  It was a nice weekend up north, although Friday night was very wet. โ˜” It drizzled for a while and then when I went for a good walk up to the Potholers it poured and I got completely soaked. ๐Ÿ’ฆ It was decent all three days up north although I have to say that today was the best of the week. That said, much too short. ๐Ÿ‡ Time flies, especially when it’s rare that I am not out of town for four or more nights, in the era of remote work. But I decided I should come home tonight, because I need to at minimum move to a new campsite.

It was three nights up in the wilderness, ๐Ÿ• camping up at House Pond, spending much of Friday during the day drinking, ๐Ÿบ reading, ๐Ÿ“• writing, โœ and hanging down at the Swimming Hole by the House Pond Campsite. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ It was nice but the water was a bit cold to say the least. ๐Ÿ›ถ Saturday, was kayaking from Stewart Landing up to Lily Lake. I didn’t go much into West Lake because I wanted to be close to back to Stewart Landing by 2 pm as they were threatening severe storms by afternoon, which never materialized. Instead, I spent the evening reading, and then down at the same swimming hole on the East Canada Creek. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ Most of Sunday was spent slowly taking down camp after a nice breakfast ๐Ÿฅž then the majority of the day the Potholers. I forgot how much nicer the Potholers are with the flowing water and potholes compared to any ordinary swimming hole on a nice summer day. It’s good to be back there!

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 69 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 3am. South wind around 8 mph. Probably need the fan on all evening. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1970.

I thought about staying over the folks house, ๐Ÿ‘ช but I was tired and wanted to get home. It has been a nice weekend, but alas I should get ready for the work week and get my camping gear put away. I also want to get the volt meter out before dark, and try to figure out why the relay isn’t closing between the starting and accessory batteries when the engine is on or the solar is outputting enough to top off both batteries. ๐Ÿ”‹ That was annoying that wasn’t working this weekend.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 81% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the southeast (139°) at an altitude of 26° from the horizon, some 226,818 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 9th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon is on Thursday, June 24. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 28 seconds. Sunrise is 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 89 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. South wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1938.

Friday turned out to be a very late start heading north. ๐Ÿš I decided not to drive downtown as I’m out of practice with parallel parking and I hate dealing with rush hour traffic. ๐Ÿš™ So I took the bus home and packed the coolers but ended up having to run to the grocery store to get all the things I didn’t previously pack. But at least the nights are long, and I had plenty of time to get set up, gather some firewood ๐Ÿ”ฅ and get things going.

The relay that connects the alternator – starting battery ๐Ÿ”‹ to the accessory batteries quit working on the way up to camp. Not sure if it’s the exciter wire that broke or the relay is seized. It was fine, I had lots of sun โ˜€ for the solar so all was good. I stopped on Friday to try to get figure out the issue but nothing obvious. I’ll test this evening or tomorrow with the volt meter. โšก It’s possible that the big old can relay failed from the occasional clatter of the relay when clouds appear on a sunny day, although I think I have mostly arrested that by adjusting settings on the voltage control. I am betting the wire is just broken.

In four weeks on July 18 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (300°) at 8:29 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 7 minutes and 24 seconds earlier then today. In 2020 on that day, we had hot and sunny weather with shallow fog in the morning and temperatures between 87 and 59 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 84 and 63 degrees. The record high of 100 degrees was set back in 1953.

By then, I hope to be on my summer vacation. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I am thinking the Finger Lakes National Forest and the state parks circuit I normally do, finding new places to hike or explore. I kind of like that campsite I stayed at last year without cell service, because I find do a lot more reading and thinking if I’m camping somewhere without cell service, ๐Ÿคซ the quiet with no Facebook quite nice. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I admit I am a bit of social media addict, even if my own postings to social media are a bit more asinine as I hate all the creepy commercial advertising that follows you around the internet, especially the green schemes.

Looking ahead, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is Next Sunday, World Population Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ง‍๐Ÿ‘ง is in 3 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is a month away, August ๐ŸŒป is in 6 weeks, Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 9 weeks, Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ is in 19 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 21 weeks, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ is in 5 months, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 24 weeks, Cold Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 26 weeks and Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 27 weeks.

 Yesterday On Lake Pleasant
