We all continue to sweat ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

Some more than others. That statement is true on so many levels. I’ve never had air conditioning at home. Maybe this is morning is not a good one to be listening to the Stones’ Paint It Black. Of course the that doesn’t count all the hours lately I’ve been sweating climbing the stairs in the office and out walking, 40 flights including in the LOB and 10 ½ miles again yesterday. And the thing I’m really sweating about these days – funding the perfect bicycle. A nice problem to be sweating a lot about.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! A three day work week doesn’t seem so bad after a four day weekend. ๐Ÿ™ƒ Partly cloudy and 69 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. โ›… There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 66 degrees. The muggy weather ends next Wednesday around 7 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“ Or is that just when the weather model ends?

Last night was sticky for sleeping ๐Ÿ˜ด and the evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ By any standards it’s bed hot and muggy, I’m starting to see black mold pop up in my apartment again. I better clean that this weekend before it gets worse. I did not sleep well at all last night despite getting to bed ๐Ÿ› a little after nine. 9โƒฃ Mostly because of the heat but also because so much of my life has been consumed by trying to figure out what would be the perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ for me. More urban commuter or mountain bicycle? ๐Ÿšต๐Ÿšด

Today will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. It’s summer, I just hope Piseco-Powley Road doesn’t wash out. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 88 degrees at 1pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 73 at 12pm. South wind 6 to 8 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1988.

This morning I decided to do scrambled eggs with red kidney beans run through the food processor to make a paste and fried, with also a sauce of tomatoes and jalapeños made in the food processor. ๐Ÿณ Made a good filling meal for two breakfasts ๐Ÿ˜‹ without preservatives or much unhealthy. I wanted something protein rich but limited sugar to help make up for my rough night sleeping. ๐Ÿฆ Yesterday’s shrimp and rice ๐Ÿš was good for dinner.

All electric bus ๐Ÿš โšก that was running on time until we hit the construction ๐Ÿšง detour due to them once again trying to fix the on ramp from US 9W to Downtown Albany and 787. Big delays on Southern Boulevard. The air conditioning wasn’t super cranked up on the bus either, though it was reasonably cool but not as refreshing as yesterday morning on bus. I’m going to be late in the office ๐Ÿข but I don’t care, it’s summer and I’m often early. Getting off at the Plaza and will walk in the Concourse as it’s cooler there. Might do the same as lunch time too to beat the heat. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 70° from the due south horizon (-0.8° vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 26 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 20 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look out for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 76 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. Sticky There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute over yesterday.

It’s going to be a hot evening so I might delay my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ for a while to study bicycles some more. ๐Ÿšฒ I need to test ride more but I’m really thinking basic mountain bike especially for puncture resistance and tubed tires for easier repair for inevitable flats. I’m willing to trade up efficiency for commute to work for better gravel and dirt road performance. โš™ I would rather peddle harder then be off the road waiting for parts.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11pm. Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 67 degrees at 4am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 6pm. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 67 degrees. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1969.

On this day in 1981, U.S. President Ronald Reagan appoints Sandra Day O’Connor ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿป‍โš–๏ธto become the first female member of the Supreme Court of the United States. ๐Ÿฅช That’s almost as cool as sliced bread, which is sold for the first time by the Chillico the Baking Company in 1921. It’s actually amazing to think it was so long that the Supreme Court was all male, only forty odd years ago was there any women on the court. Now if they could only get come young people on the court and less of the old white bread. ๐Ÿฅ I haven’t had bread in ages, mostly as it’s a lot of more carbs and while whole grain has more fiber I generally just stick with brown rice as a durable, preservative free form of carbs to use in many meals. ๐Ÿด

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒž , with a high of 87 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 12pm. Light and variable wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

I fully concede that this would be the perfect weekend for the Potholers ๐ŸŠ‍โ™‚๏ธ or Mine Kill Pool if I wasn’t planning on test riding and hopefully buying a bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ this weekend. I feel like this whole process has dragged on for much too long but it’s taken me a while to figure out that I would be best off with a new rather than used or rebuilt bicycle. Then the trade offs of efficency of a road bicycle vs durability of a mountain bike ๐Ÿšต have been in my mind plus what I’m willing to spend. You know I’m the boy that looked at getting a Toyota Prius for cheap, reliable environmentally friendly transportation before settling on a big jacked up truck. I have a feeling my bicycle buying process is going that way, especially as I play through all the disadvantages of riding a bike to work over taking the bus – theft, car crashes, pollution. That air conditioning feels so good on the bus in the sweltering heat.

I will try to leave by 10:30 tomorrow to test ride more bicycles. ๐Ÿ”Ž๐Ÿšฒ. I really want to settle on something this weekend and either take delivery or at least have it on order for next week. I am going to start at Steiner’s Sports in Glenmont, as they have more mountain bikes it seems, and then try Downtube next. If I like what they have at Steiner’s Sports in Glenmont but they don’t have it at their local shop, but I can get it at their main shop in Hudson, I am more then willing to drive down there on Saturday afternoon or Sunday. Downtube wants to charge $50 destination fee on top of the MSRP, which is reasonable but if I can save some money, that’s even more reasonable. I think I finally have a better idea of what I want.

Then the other thing I need is grocery shopping. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ„ With the blueberries I got at the farmer’s market on Wednesday I have enough of a grocery haul to make it to the weekend, but things are starting to get a bit low and I want to maintain a nutritious, diverse and tasty diet. ๐Ÿ˜‹ I worry if I let my pantry get too bare then I will start going for less healthy calories.

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, ๐ŸŒฅ with a high near 79. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 70 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Friday is National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ when the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:06 pm. It’s when my dentist appointment is. ๐Ÿฆท I’ll wear clothing though when I get my teeth cleaned. At least that’s when I think it is. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1995.

I am hoping that National Nude Day is one that I can get out of town, for the weekend. Maybe just Schoharie County but I could also see the Potholers ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ as it’s been a while since I’ve spent a few nights in the wilderness. Hopefully with a bicycle to ride too. At this point I’m trying to save money, and Schoharie might be better for just two nights, and it would be good to improve my swimming skills. Heading up mid-day on Friday is no guarantee that I’ll get the House Pond Campsite for easy access to the East Canada Creek for floating and walk to the Potholers. I haven’t done the Mine Kill Pool in a long time, I don’t recall if I ever made it out there in 2022 or not.

Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Seems like the most appropriate John Prine song for this Flag Day 2023. I was going to post it Memorial Day being the irreverent SOB that I am but whatever. Loving America is also about criticizing it when our leaders are wrong. But what do I care, I’m leaving this town come tomorrow morning for the Adirondacks.

Good morning! What day is it? Flag Day, of course. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ At least in the parts of America that still celebrates such things. You can taste the wood smoke, cow shit and heavy fog ๐ŸŒซ around 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. It’s kind of nice when you live enough on the outskirts of the city to have the smells of the country. ๐Ÿฎ Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. The AQI is 43. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

Woke up at 5:30 this morning and had reheated egg quiche ๐Ÿฐ with coffee โ˜•. Went out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ and came back home and ran to the bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ and splattered shit all over the toilet and my boxers. They were fun to wash this morning. ๐Ÿ’ฉ I almost thought about tossing them as they don’t really fit anymore. In my rush to get out to the Bike Rescue ๐Ÿšฒ last night I decided to have the last chicken patty I had left in my freezer from before I decided to cut out processed unhealthy food from my diet. ๐Ÿ” I think it might have already gone bad or maybe I’m not used processed food, though I had it with plenty of beans, celery, onions and brown rice to supplement it. But it left me hungry and feeling sick ๐Ÿคฎ for the rest of the evening. It had a ton of salt in it and pretty high on fat too. My gut doesn’t like change, I had a similar situation when I first started eating a lot of oatmeal and fiber rich foods. I still don’t feel great but I think I’m past that now all cleaned up and showered. ๐Ÿ›€

Today will have a chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 74 degrees at 12pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 27th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 2pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1892.

I drove down to the Trinity Center last night in the South End ๐Ÿšฒ, hoping to get some advice on rebuilding the back wheel of my old bicycle.I was still hoping for some advice on the wheel, but when I got there, the door was locked on the Trinity Center and the lights were off. ๐Ÿšช I walked around back to see if I missed, then moved my truck a little closer, deciding to double check that nobody was there, ringing the door bell but nobody arrived. Maybe they didn’t have volunteers, that happens, they’ve been closed the past few weeks. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ

It’s fine, I decided I’ll bring the rear wheel to the Adirondacks this weekend and play with it some more. I am starting to doubt though that I’ll ever get this bicycle back on the road, ๐Ÿšณ as I keep discovering new issues. The thing about it was when I was unloading my bicycle I noticed my front wheel is now out of true, among other issues. But I do want to learn how to replace spokes, and learn more about bicycles. ๐Ÿ“š I got two books out of the library about bicycle repair, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง and I want to learn more about bicycles before I plunk down money for another used or rebuilt one. I think I will continue to cannibalize parts from this bicycle, and eventually donate it somewhere, but the mean time I can store in the crawl space. But next time I’ll call or email in advance โœ‰๏ธ before going down there.

It’s fine, I needed to get propane, some supplies from Walmart and fuel for my truck. โ›ฝ All much too expensive but I wanted to have everything I need for the trip, including an new air pump to inflate my tube or in case of emergency, a little bit of extra rubber cement to patch any leaks, some more kidney beans, olives, and a few other groceries. ๐Ÿช Going to get fresh veggies and fruit on my way up to camp, probably stop in Gloversville at Price Chopper to get those things. Often the quality is better then Walmart, and it will be hopefully more fresh shopping on Thursday. But more expensive. Everything has gotten so darn expensive these days. ๐Ÿ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.6° from the due south horizon (-0.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:52 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (304°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 27 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 63 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 20 minutes of daytime, an increase of 29 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce small hail. ๐ŸŒง Low of 56 degrees at 3am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 8th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1985.

Heading out of town for a Long Weekend starting on Thursday morning. ๐Ÿ• I was going to take off Friday and Tuesday, but it looks like the legislature will be back on Tuesday, so I best be back on Juneteenth. Plus Thursday looks like one of the best weather days of the long weekend. Friday looks cold and wet. I am going to bring my propane heater, along with the tarp for sure. It will be nice to be away from it all for some time. My radio doesn’t work, so I will be fully off-grid without cell service. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Hoping for some sun for swimming and to keep hte solar working well so my batteries are good.

Kind of a mixed bag but cool for the long weekend. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Thursday, sunny and 78. Friday, best chance of showers on and off all day, high 72. Saturday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Juneteenth, mostly sunny with showers late. High near 78. Maximum dew point of 58 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

As Looking ahead, next Wednesday is Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 70 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1938. That means the Mine Kill Pool should be open then ๐ŸŠ so if it’s nice that’s a lot of fun. But next weekend is a way off and I want to look at bicycles that weekend first before deciding if I want to go swimming. But also it would be great to get some fresh produce at the farm stands in the Schoharie Valley, do some camping and adventures not so far from home.

Happy Lupine Festival Day! ๐Ÿฆ‹

Out walking this morning right at six o’clock and then there are more Committee Agendas and legislation to review for work while eating breakfast and sipping coffee out back before tabling a good portion of the day the Lupine Festival for Save the Pine Bush. Going to try to find time to walk 8 miles today in between the rain drops, though I doubt I’ll melt.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! But the work never stops until some time after June 10th or so I tell myself. Cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Not so cold this morning for the walk ๐Ÿšถ. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 3 am.

I was up pretty early this morning ๐ŸŒ… but then again this time of year the sun rise is early. Stumbled around a bit but now I’m going again and out walking ๐Ÿšถ. I figured walk first then breakfast ๐Ÿณ which will be eggs, a shit ton of spinach along with orange and red peppers and onions and probably tomatoes ๐Ÿ… as you can’t forget them.

Today will have showers likely, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 69 degrees at 1pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 9th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Okay, New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.

So yes a busy Saturday ahead. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Lots of things to do. One thing I can ๐Ÿฅซ check off my list โ˜‘ is I ended up grocery shopping ๐Ÿ›’ last night rather than Sunday. I wanted to get some more apples ๐Ÿ and I noticed the store was freshly stocked so I figured get it done. That way I’ll be down by the end of the week next week and can go shopping again if I decide to head out of town to camp โ›บ. I don’t know though with the best campsites likely taken and the black flies. ๐Ÿœ Plus I told John whose wife is sick this weekend I would probably come up next weekend. Still waiting on parts for my bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ, I don’t see myself wrenching it this weekend.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-3.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:35 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (292ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

I got cranberry beans soaking in the refrigerator today, ๐ŸฒI plan to cook them either tonight or tomorrow to add to meals throughout the week. Salmon with rice, kale, onions and peppers for dinner tonight. ๐Ÿ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (299ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:16 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 8:48 pm, which is one minute later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (296ยฐ) at an altitude of 10ยฐ from the horizon, 245,175 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:30 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Last night twice the express bus ๐Ÿšhad to pull over on the shoulder of the road because the battery box door kept opening up. Both on Interstate 787 and the Delmar bypass. Poor driver had to get out on the shoulder with racing traffic going by and try to secure it. The second time, a CDTA supervisor in his personal vehicle saw the breakdown and stopped by. One of the passengers joked with only three passengers he could have just given us a ride home ๐Ÿก. Friday usually is very light on the bus, a lot of people work from home or like me often head out of town.

I think the Voorheesville bus hasn’t rebuilt it’s ridership enough, I bet come mid June it will be back to starting and ending at the Park and Ride. ๐Ÿš It’s tough in the era of hybrid work and work from home. I’m okay with that, as I like the walk especially on non session days and it will be more timely โŒš as the driver for the 7:30 run will dead head back and do the 8:30 run downtown and the same with me 4 pm and 5 pm route. While drivers can always hit traffic on Southern Boulevard or 787, with that dead head the layover is long enough to avoid most delays unlike running a city route before. โ˜บ

Tonight will have showers, mainly before 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 50 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 19th. South wind around 7 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1949.

I keep watching as the forecast for Memorial Day Weekend ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ gets warmer and sunnier but I’m afraid I’ll have to work. Maybe my best plan remains to hammock camp โ›บ a night or two quite primatively locally. I’ll figure it out as those days get closer. I’m just really hoping for a nice Juneteenth Weekend at the Potholers and House Pond Campsite. It could rain though. Summer is not done yet! Though only 105 days remain until the Labor Day Weekend.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. I’m not sure whose on the ballot locally but I could check at the county board of elections website. I will want to Early Vote because they moved my Election Day site to the Town Park which isn’t convenient for me when I’m busy on Election Day.

May 9, 2023 Morning

Second gear of the week. โš™

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž and 44 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. Calm wind.

Up and going this morning. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Only walked 5 ยพ miles yesterday but with session, the late running express bus, missing the morning express, laundromat and grocery shopping time was tight especially I still like to be in bed ๐Ÿ› by around nine 9โƒฃ to be up at six.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 66 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 1st. North wind 3 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1979. 1.6 inches of snow fell back in 1977.โ„

Should be a nice sunny day. โ˜บ A bit cooler than yesterday though. I’m out walking ๐Ÿšถ a few minutes later then usual but it’s fine as I have to drop that wheel off at the shop to get the nail out and plugged at 8:30. Hell of it is the tire isn’t leaking and is maintaining pressure at 33 psi but I don’t think it’s good to be driving around with a nail in it. Pay day today. That’ll help.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-6.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:24 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (288ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Another session day so I’ll be in the office ๐Ÿข all day though I might sneak out for a midday walk ๐Ÿšถ. Then depending how late I get out from work I’ll probably go to the park or maybe Five Rivers. ๐Ÿฆ Still waiting on bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ parts.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:04 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 8:35 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:15 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 58 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 18 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Funny how quickly things warm up with spring upon us. North wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1958.

Mother’s Day Weekend still looks great. ๐ŸŒท Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 54 at 8am. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 68. Maximum dew point of 43 at 8pm. I bet the tulip festival will be packed. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

If I wasn’t going to be so busy this weekend ๐Ÿค” it would be a great one to get out of town. I’m going to have Committee Agendas for work, hoping to . But I have a long list of things to do. ๐Ÿฆ‹ The following weekend is the Lupine Festival and then Memorial Day Weekend. Not sure sb

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.

May 6, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. โ›บ

Made it to the May camping trip, the first quote unquote summer camping season. The black flies are swarming but as far as I can tell they aren’t biting. I’m glad I’m not getting eaten alive in the Adirondacks and truth be told it’s a lot quieter than camping on NY 8 East Branch Sacandaga River with all the road traffic.

Kind of a chilly start to the weekend, especially with the wind. Mostly sunny and 47 degrees at the Burnt-Rossman State Forest. There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

I kind of played hookie and snuck out of work at 1 pm on Friday, that is with the big directors permission, โ›บ I wanted to get up to camp early so I could ensure I could get the Duck Pond campsite which sometimes is taken, and then have time to do some hiking before dark. Plus I had the time I would otherwise loose come next Wednesday so I made the leap.

I managed to forget my day pack ๐ŸŽ’ at home. I realized it yesterday when I was in Middleburgh. What to use for hiking to have food and carrying water? ๐Ÿ’ฆ I figured out a chair bag would work for that slung over my shoulder. It looks a bit odd but works okay. I think I need to update my packing list – things have changed but my packing list hasn’t kept up with the changes. ๐Ÿ“ƒ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 24th. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

Black flies are out and swarming ๐Ÿœ but they aren’t biting. If it’s anything like yesterday, get into the darker parts of the woods away from water or come dusk they’ll be gone. I’m sure it would be worse in the Adirondacks.

But regardless it’s a nice morning. ๐ŸŒ… I woke up at six o’clock like usual but decided after peeing to get some more sleep. Then it was coffee โ˜• and oatmeal – banana pancake ๐Ÿฅž mix topped with blueberries. Going to read ๐Ÿ“– and listen to a podcast until around 10:30 then start a road hike, heading back to the woods ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ after spring turkey ๐Ÿฆƒ closes at noontime. I want to check out the Rossman Hill Leanto and Looking Glass Pond ๐ŸŽฃ and then maybe head down to Panther Hollow along the Long Path.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 64ยฐ from the due south horizon (-6.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:24 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Hsd a loose connection on the inverter last night ๐Ÿ”‹ which kept it tripping out due to under voltage. Tightened it up and now it seems great. After all these years I’m really figuring out the system working out all the bugs. ๐Ÿ› That said, I’m already considering what I might do different on a future truck. ๐Ÿ›ป I was thinking about how much I miss having the little truck for navigating the back roads – I’m always careful about where I take Big Red as he’s tough to navigate on the narrow roads and sways a lot on the rough roads which I don’t want to break my big expensive truck on.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (294ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:03 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 8:34 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:13 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 55 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 21 seconds over yesterday.

When I get back I want to do a wrap ๐ŸŒฏ with chicken ๐Ÿ” rice ๐Ÿš tomato ๐Ÿ… and fresh spinach. Maybe include some tofu, mushrooms ๐Ÿ„ and hot sauce. Already my mouth is watering. ๐Ÿ˜‹ I was going to go that last night but I ended up doing fish with asparagus and tomato ๐Ÿ…. Also good. Next time I might bring more beer ๐Ÿป and I might get a small package of cookies. ๐Ÿช I’m really trying to improve my diet but I think I can make exceptions in moderation especially if I’m planning a high activity day. ๐ŸฆตThat said in general I’m not going back on my now healthier and often more delicious eating habits.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Southwest wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1874.

Last night I did a nice hike ๐Ÿ‘ฃ down into Cole Hollow along the Long Path. Strangely enough I had never done much hiking down there. That Cole Hollow campsite โ›บ is pretty nice, I should keep it in mind especially if I’m going to Mine Kill Pool or planning to bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ ride in the Schoharie Valley. I feel like I could potentially ride right from there as the elevation is relatively low. Deep hollow though, no cell service or likely much radio service. Kind of like Betty Brook.

Too bad it was so cloudy yesterday night for the full ๐ŸŒ• moon. It cleared out late but not until very late when I was in bed for the night. Maybe I can enjoy the moonlight tonight. I do enjoy how much quieter it is up here compared to what it would be on NY 8. Plus far less black flies, or maybe not they were really swarming last night when the sun was still up. It’s May everywhere.

Trying to upload some pictures this morning ๐Ÿ“ธ but the internet up here is a bit temperamental though at least I now have a card reader that allows me to upload photos taken by my good camera on the phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ But even that is a bit tricky as my phone doesn’t like the uppercase JPG extensions which force me to rename the files ๐Ÿ“‚ before I can even preview them on my phone.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:40 pm with dusk at 9:13 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 86 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

April 28, 2023 Morning

100 days of walking Five Miles or more a day ๐Ÿšถ

Probably by midday it will mark 100 days of walking a minimum of 5 miles a day or 10,000 steps. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ That said, lately I’ve been doing a lot more. Yesterday that worked out to be more like 11 1/2 miles. Feeling great, except for my lack of sleep last night!

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Partly cloudy with fog around and 41 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. โ›… Calm wind.

For the first time in a long time I did not sleep well ๐Ÿ› last night. Part of it was I didn’t get to bed until later then usual as I walked until 7:45 then went to the grocery store. By the time I was in bed and lights off it was closer to quarter before ten. Then I woke up at 2 am and struggled to get back to sleep. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Worse thing about waking up during the night ๐ŸŒƒ is all the podcast ads magically become for Better Help, sleeping medications and mattress commercials. ๐Ÿ’Š Can’t sleep at night, our online therapists can help you 24-7. Talking to a shrink is exactly what I need in this middle of the night when I can’t sleep. Really, lol. No I just need to get up, take a piss and get back to bed listening to some boring ๐Ÿ’ค lecture of podcast.

Today will have increasing clouds ๐ŸŒฅ ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜, with a high of 65 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1990. There was a dusting of snow in 1966.โ„

Yesterday was a crickets day at work ๐Ÿฆ— it was dead quiet until it wasn’t. But then the project got sent back to the researcher and it was dead. I’ve been continuing to update R studio packages, and working on some interesting new maps. I like the quality of the simple maps I’m getting out of ggplot these days. Accidentally scheduled too many posts yesterday evening, but I’m moving them around and getting that fixed.

Got out walking after a quick dinner ๐Ÿƒ managing to get in 11 1/2 miles for the day. Then I went grocery shopping. ๐Ÿ›’ When I got done ringing up my items from shopping, I had a bit of sticker shock after shopping — my bill rang up to $113. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I know, but then again I needed coffee, salmon, and some other more expensive things that will likely last a month or two as a dole out the servings over time. I buy in bulk, and these days bulk buying is expensive. โ˜• I expect my grocery bills to much closer to normal in coming weeks, but also I do expect they’ll run about $10-20 a week more then what they were before I started eating healthy. While in some ways healthy foods bought in bulk are less expensive, all the ingredients and variety just adds up. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍โš•๏ธ And it’s worth it if it keeps me healthy, as I noted last night.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 61.5° from the due south horizon (-9.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:13 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (284°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (290°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:52 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 5 seconds with dusk around 8:22 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (188°) at an altitude of 66° from the horizon, 252,101 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:00 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 59 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 14 hours of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 5th. Southeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1947.

Tomorrow will have showers. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 50 degrees at 2pm. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 30th. Maximum dew point of 43 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1888. 1 inches of snow fell back in 1885.โ„

This weekend I want to work on the bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ rebuilding the wheel now that I have the gears off and spokes here. Once the wheel is trued, I will reinstall the tube. I’m not sure if I need a new rear tube, seems like it has a slow leak, I have rubber cement and rubber patches to fix it. Then I’ll order the remaining parts I need — a rear derailer cable and screw/adjuster plate. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง

Looking ahead to Sunday, showers, mainly after 2pm. High near 62. Southeast wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 51 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 66 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Friday is Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm with dusk at 8:30 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 68 and 49 degrees. Right on target. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944. I am hoping to get out of town next week, maybe to the Adirondacks so I can get eaten alive by black flies. But a lot depends on the weather. Some forecasts call for sun, others for rain, but it’s 7 days out and that’s always a wild card. I guess the alternative could be going out to Schoharie or Rensselaerville.

Across the Lake To Balm of Gilead

April 25, 2023 Morning

Late again โŒš

Does anybody use a watch in 2023? Second gear didn’t want to engage properly but I’m finally out walking and I think I can make up sufficient time during breakfast to catch the express.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly cloudy and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around noontime.

I’m up and moving ๐Ÿ˜ด early enough to avoid the smoldering cars and the traffic around the High School ๐Ÿซ and I think I’ll make the morning work for me. I think I’ll reheat those pancakes ๐Ÿฅž I made up this weekend. Then hurry into the shower, iron my clothes and run out to the bus. ๐ŸšŒ That said, usually these days the bus is running late so I’ll probably be good on time.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 54 degrees at 5pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 5th. Northwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„ I think the winter season is almost done.

Monday was good, โ˜บ a somewhat busy day but I found a spec sheet ๐Ÿ“„ for my bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ so I could order parts for it. I believe I’m getting closer to getting it back on the road. Walked 9.1 miles, mostly in the evening after work but I also stepped out of the office mid-day for while.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.5° from the due south horizon (-10.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:10 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (283°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Today is a pay day ๐Ÿ’ต which is good as rent is due the end of the week with May just around the corner. My rent remains quite affordable and living in the city I don’t have to drive anywhere. And once I get my bike running my hope is to start saving on my bus ๐Ÿš fare too.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (289°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:18 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west-southwest (255°) at an altitude of 56° from the horizon, 250,541 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 52 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

The lock ๐Ÿ”’ on my door ๐Ÿšช has been acting up again but I found another key ๐Ÿ— and seemed to free it up. I’ll have to see if I have some lock grease around or I’ll have to call the landlord. I think things corroded up a bit from the heavy rain over the weekend.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 35 degrees at 3am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 11th. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1972.

Weekend still looks cloudy, cool and wet. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 66 degrees. Yes, I am sticking in town I think.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.
