Good evening! Rain and 63 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 60 degrees. More of a drizzle now but around 7 pm the sky was really pouring.

No evening walk ๐Ÿšถ due to the rain. That downpour and wind was intense for a while – it must have knocked down a tree ๐ŸŒฒas I heard somebody in the neighborhood with a chain saw. But as fast as it came it was gone.

I was working down at the library parking lot today and it started to get so hot with that sun โ˜€. Got to hook up the fan and maybe bring water but then I’ll need to run home for bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ breaks. The library Wi-Fi has gotten so popular lately – some times you’ll see a dozen cars in the lot with folks on their laptops. ๐Ÿ’ป But it’s fine, everybody is maintaining social distancing and my laptop stays charged off the sun.

Working on a new interactive mapping feature for the blog that will allow for large format maps that can be scrolled ๐Ÿ“œ left and right and maybe zoomed in based on the jquery library I eventually end up linking against.

Also been experimenting with historical topographic maps and removing their collars ๐Ÿ—พ which turns out to be super easy to do creating seemless historical maps of larger areas like Moose River Plains. The accuracy of those early USGS maps is amazing as long as you don’t zoom in too far beyond the scale.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 54 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 6th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 10pm. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Another night sleeping with the windows open. I like the fresh air and things are quite with everything shut down due to pandemic. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1980.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 35% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:01 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:34 am in the east-northeast (63ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 15 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and one second earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:14 am with sun in the east-northeast (70ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 20 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 10am. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Should be a real nice day. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1991.

I’m thinking Thacher Park OSI parcel tomorrow from that lesser used trail head to the Nature Center at Thompsons Lake ๐Ÿฆ and some of the lesser used trails to the overlooks. ๐Ÿธ I want to do some bird watching and just general wildlife observation ๐Ÿ”ญ if I can find some quiet places to sit in the woods. I’ll definitely be wearing my jeans ๐Ÿ‘– that are treated with Permethrin.

I’ve really been struggling with the Lyme disease this time. ๐Ÿœ The doxycycline works but it’s not as effective as the first time I got Lyme last October and there are times I am sore and stiff. I do keep getting out – walking 5 to 10 miles a day around the neighborhood – but at times I feel exhausted and just so stiff and sore. I’m be out of doxycycline Tuesday and if I still feel like shit I’m going to call the doctor ๐Ÿ˜ท.

I went to the the laundromat and hardware store today. ๐Ÿ‘š Washed my clothes and sprayed three pare of older jeans and t-shirts with Permethrin. Users of it swear by it for ticks. Certainly the Army uses a lot of it as do cattle farmers for fly control. I picked up two empty spray bottles so I’d have them to apply the chemicals. Mixing the chemical 20 to 1 with water wasn’t too bad, twenty oz of mixture pretty much covered three jeans and shirts. Didn’t see any staining or odors. I washed my hands carefully after use but noticed no incidental skin reaction. The chemical supposedly lasts six washings but honestly I’d probably reapply it before packing for any major camping trip or extended outdoor activity because if it knocks down the ticks it’s worth it without a question.

In four weeks on June 12 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:33 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 22 minutes and 36 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 77 and 50 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 77 and 56 degrees. The record high of 95 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 3 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 1 week remains until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

I made no decision about next weekend. โ›บ Unless the forecast calls for exceptionally nice weather next weekend the plan will be avoid the crowds Memorial Day Weekend and work only three days the following week, leave Thursday and take Friday off celebrate the unofficial kick off to summer with fewer crowds and the potholers a little warmer.

May 5, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. It’s a pretty nice evening out, I sat out back for a while but soon I’ll retire to bed. Fairly nice evening.

Well I think despite my doctor’s doubts ๐Ÿ˜ท I have Lyme and the doxycycline is working well now that I finally started taking it. The soreness and stiffness is gone from legs. While it was never totally debilitating and I kept walking and hiking ๐Ÿšถ I had the fear of not being able to climb the stairs in my apartment because the Lyme really was making me stiff at times. But that is already gone. But the doxycycline really hit me hard this time – all day I thought I’d need tooth picks to remain awake through five o’clock. Fairly slow day at work, had a project come in and phone call ๐Ÿ“ž to make in the afternoon but I made it to five. It also made me feel like I needed to puke half the morning.

Between my before work and evening walk ๐Ÿšถ today I got five miles of walking in. Not too bad. I tried replacing the battery and testing my bathroom scale โš without much luck. I’m sure weighting myself everyday isn’t going to tell me much besides the fact I just drank a lot of water ๐Ÿ’ฆ or more likely milk. ๐Ÿฎ I don’t believe the doctors scale plus I was wearing my carhartt vest, steel toe boots ๐Ÿ‘ข and a rain coat.

Bought two gallons of milk at Stewart’s for the week, ironically standing behind a local dairy farmer at the store who was buying coffee โ˜•. Pre pandemic I’d buy a gallon and go like twice a week for the freshest milk ๐Ÿ„ but I know they say you should avoid unnecessary trips to the store. ๐Ÿฌ Next week is the big half gallon ice cream sale. Price has gone up 20 cents to $3.19 during the sale. I don’t normally buy ice cream these days but when the sale is going on I’ll have to spring for a half gallon. ๐Ÿง๐Ÿจ๐ŸฆToo bad it’s going to be mad cold next week.

I am thought about going out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center or maybe Schodack Island State Park after work โ›ฒ but I was pretty tired from the doxycycline and was worried about falling asleep driving ๐Ÿš˜. I don’t need groceries right away at any rate. I feel so much less stiff but keeping my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ open all day has been a challenge.

Tonight will have patchy frost after 1am. Otherwise, mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 34 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 7th. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 97% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the southeast (131ยฐ) at an altitude of 28ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,726 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 24th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:14 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:45 am in the east-northeast (67ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 17 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:25 am with sun in the east-northeast (73ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 20 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers after 3pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 2pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Light northeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. More sun than I expected. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

Tomorrow I may drive down to the library ๐Ÿ“š to upload maps ๐ŸŒ and reply back to the numerous emails ๐Ÿ“ง I’ve gotten related to people’s questions about state lands. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ At times I feel like I’m an unofficial ambassador to state land. I also should try to make my mind up on what screen house I want to buy for camping and just order it. ๐ŸŽช It will make long weekends in black fly season and summer vacation a lot more enjoyable.

With the state campgrounds closed Memorial Day Weekend I am pretty sue I’ll stay in town that weekend and maybe take the following Friday off for a long weekend at Piseco Powley Road and the potholers. โ›บ I can always make my own three day weekend, I have quite a bit of time in my time bank ๐Ÿฆ at this point working from home as no need to clock out if I feel a bit sick or need to run a quick errand.

I bet in a few more weeks the cold will pass โ„ it will be so sultry out. I’m kind of hoping to be back working downtown by then because I don’t have air conditioning at home and it could be a bit sultry working out of my truck. ๐Ÿš˜ I guess there is always a fan and lots of water with ice cubes.

In four weeks on June 2 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) at 8:27 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 12 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 76 and 49 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 53 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1895.

Looking ahead, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is a month away, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 7 weeks, and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 26 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 17 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

 East Towards High Peaks

September 19, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Ten weeks until Thanksgiving.๐Ÿฆƒย We are the same distance between now and Thanksgiving, and the First Day of Summer and Labor Day. Sunny and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. Foggy ๐ŸŒ in the city. As they say, winters coming. It’s only going to get colder. I caught the local to work ๐Ÿš as was running late as I got looking at a map, trying to plan out my vacation. ๐Ÿ‚

I might order a good West Virginia map like a Rand McNally as because the National Forest map I have is excellent but the same can’t be said about the AAA map which covers three states down that way. ๐Ÿ—บย I think I could make my route using that map but a better one on Amazon is like $5 and I might discover things that I would overlook. Regardless, I want this year’s trip to be better planned than last year.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

The sun will set at 6:58 pm with dusk around 7:27 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 68 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 44 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1979.

Awesome weekend on tap, with temperatures running 13 degrees above normal. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

This evening I’ll head to the store ๐Ÿฌ and get the supplies I need and Big Red gassedย up. โ›ฝ Right after the Pine Bush hike I want to head up to the Adirondacks for a final overnight trip at the potholers. After this, I probably won’t be back to Piseco-Powley Road until next June or July — we will see — but I think with the colder weather coming and the fact that area is prone to lake effect snow.๐ŸŒจ I’d wait until next weekend, but who knows what the weather will be like by next week.

I stillย think it’s pretty neat that OGS agreed to reprogram funds for the combined heat and power plant ๐Ÿ”ณย for solar both on the plaza and in Oneida County. While I’m not a fan of developing more solar farms, it’s good to see the state is putting their money where their mouth is. They have a lot of room for solar at the State Office Campus, if they built over the parking lots and the ring roads. Putting solar over the roads makes a lot of sense in the snow climate we live in — no snow to remove and rain is blocked from motorists windshields.๐Ÿ”

In two weeks, the sun will be setting at 6:34 pm with dusk at 7:02 pm. ๐ŸŒ† On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 65 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 83 back in 1967.

September 15, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Four weeks to Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚. Partly sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees. Seems like a nice morning. I’m making up some french toast ๐Ÿง‡ and coffee โ˜• now and going to soon take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ.

I think the plan for today is to hike Windham High Peak ๐Ÿ—ป and go out to my parents house ๐Ÿฒ for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿšถ I haven’t done Windham High Peak in a number of years and I have think it will be a nice hike, even if last time I was up there I was under impressed by the views. ๐Ÿ“ท

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 10th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am. West wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1915.

The sun will set at 7:06 pm with dusk around 7:34 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 2nd. Maximum dew point of 56 at 10pm. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1964.

The display in my bedroom is still getting stuck and malfunctioning a lot. ๐Ÿ“Ÿ I think I’ve found the bad solder joint and the board, I will have to hit it again with the soldering iron. ๐Ÿ”ฌ

Next weekend keeps looking increasingly hot and sunny. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I think it might be good for one more weekend at the potholers after I do the Pine Bush Bird Hike ๐Ÿฆ early on Saturday morning.

Been thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ about hiking back to Pharoah Lake in late October or early November. ๐Ÿšถ I made up a revised map ๐Ÿ—พ yesterday and was thinking it would be a nice day hike. The hike back there is an easy 3 1/2 miles each way over virtually flat terrain (you gain only 200 ft in elevation from Beaver Brook Road) but the 420 acre lake ๐Ÿ  is 5 miles around it so it’s a good distance. Do it in November and all your bound to see is a few deer hunters, ๐ŸฆŒ the crowds ๐Ÿ‘ช will be long gone.

I haven’t talked or given a whole lot of thought towards saving for my off grid house ๐Ÿก lately. The automatic investments are doing their thing and I’m getting closer one step at a time. Yeah, a lot of people I went to school with or know are buying houses out in the country ๐Ÿฎ but I just can’t see doing that while I still live in New York. I’m fine spending a lot of weekends for now in the wilderness, camping, cooking and having fires. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:17 pm with dusk at 6:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 55 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 81 back in 1930.

July 31, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜ƒ! I found out for the first time ever I have a cavity in my tooth and I’m getting a filling next Monday. That’s no fun. Two weeks to Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก. Cloudy and 76 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 69 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

So the good news or the bad news first? ๐Ÿ“ฐ Well, I guess the bad news. I have a cavity in one of my rear teeth and I’m going to have to get a filling on Monday. I guess that’s part of getting old. I didn’t go to the dentist for ten years and didn’t have any problems but over the past two years I’ve been doing regular cleaning.๐Ÿ˜ I thought it was all the milk I drank ๐Ÿฎ, two gallons a week plus eating fruit instead of sweets most of the time at home although I admit that I drank a lot of beer ๐Ÿป and didn’t brush a lot up at camp. But I guess I should get it filled so that’s what I’m doing. I heard that’s not fully covered by insurance but I guess health expenses are legitimate. I also got a flouride treatment, which I don’t know if it was worth the $49 but maybe it will prevent problems down the road. At least even after vacation and other expenses I should have sufficient money to cover it in checking. ๐Ÿ’ต

The good news is $13 later and a half hour of my time โŒš my low beam – daytime running headlight bulb ๐Ÿ’ก is working again. I can’t figure out what failed in the bulb, it doesn’t look burnt out or cracked when I pulled it from the truck but as soon as I plugged in the new bulb it’s working. Pulling the front accessory battery wasn’t a big deal ๐Ÿ”‹ even if it’s a bit heavy lift and I always have to worry about touching the positive post against the body. I’m tempted to hook the bulb to my bench power supply at home to see if it lights or passes current. And I’ll be careful about putting it in the burnable trash, the last one I tossed exploded when I was up at camp. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I am making progress on the Pine Bush project ๐ŸŒฒI am working on. I wrote a program to convert tax rolls into data I can query in my GIS program. Besides for that I think I can make some interesting maps of assessed property values and other data.๐ŸŒ

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 2pm and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 82 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 69 at 10am. West wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1917.

The sun will set at 8:16 pm with dusk around 8:48 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clouds ๐ŸŒง with a chance thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 29 minutes of daytime, an decreaseof 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. West wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1964.

A hot and humid summer weekend is on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 5pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Maximum dew point of 61 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

I am still thinking about heading up to Piesco Powley Road this weekend and the Potholers. โ›บ I might once again paddle lily lake as that’s an easy thing to do Saturday or maybe I could go down to Little Falls and paddle on the Mohawk. ๐Ÿšค

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก when the sun will be setting at 7:58 pm with dusk at 8:28 pm. On that day in 2018, it was humid, with partly sunny skies, rain showers and temperatures between 85 and 71 degrees. โ˜€ Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1988.

East Sidney Reservoir

July 27, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday from the Pennsylvania Wilds! Statistically today, the hottest time of the summer is over, although we can still have some real hot days. Next Saturday is Campfire Day ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I’m thinking about next week going to the Potholers and Piesco Powley Road as summer is rapidly disappearing and it will be August by then ๐Ÿ’ญ. Sunny and 60 degrees at the Allegheny National Forest. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. No fog up here but maybe in the valley ๐ŸŒ.

I see this morning that I forgot to buy more coffee yesterday. Too bad. โ˜• I had enough grounds today, I just perculated them extra long for the desired strength. It’s fine, tomorrow I’ll get a cup at McDonald’s in Wellsboro or so without. It’s a pleasant morning, in a little bit I’ll start taking down camp.

I’m laying in my hammock working on this blog post. ๐Ÿ“ Bugs are already biting and the sun is in my eyes. ๐Ÿ‘€ I think the next step is to download pictures and video ๐Ÿ“น from my dash cam for storage. Then take down camp.

I’ve been thinking I really need to get a good camp shovel as the trowel is not cutting it for digging poop holes ๐Ÿ’ฉ, especially now that I’m burying organics like corn cobs ๐ŸŒฝ and similar waste rather than try to burn it. Plus it would have been nice to “fix” that big mud wallow where I was camping back in the Finger Lakes.

Today will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny โ˜€, with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 18th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1955.

Today sounds like a nice day for my final full day of summer vacation. โ˜€ There is a lot I want to see and do before the day is done – so I should get moving – Jake’s Rocks, Alleghany Reservoir, Rim Rock, Port Allegany Glass Park, and explore Pine Creek Gorge. I forgot to bring a Tioga State Forest map but I think I can get it on my phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Its always fun to see the changing landscape as you drive through the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania.

The sun will set at 8:38 pm with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is one minute earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 61 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 58 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 60 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 14th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 8pm. Southwest wind around 6 mph. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 67 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1971.

As previously noted, next Saturday is Campfire Day ๐Ÿ”ฅ when the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm with dusk at 9:01 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 80 and 72 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1975.

Evening Reflect

April 10, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Next Tuesday is Tax Day 💰. Poverty day after all the money is paid.😯 Cloudy with a few patches of blue and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The skies will clear around 6 pm. Dark enough this morning, that I will need the lights on when I get in the office. I think it’s snowing over in Rensselaer.

Today will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy โ˜ , with a high of 46 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees below normal. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1922. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

Not exactly a nice day buy even the coldest and grayest days aren’t that bad once you make it to mid April. I hope this is not an early sign of a coming cold and damp summer. I want some nice hot weekends at the Potholers this year. 🏊

The sun will set at 7:32 pm with dusk around 8:01 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 Nice long day. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies โ›… and 42 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌞 , with a low of 27 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1874.

So today I’m bringing in my digital clock / VMS display I built to stick in my office. For now I’ve given up building a plexiglass case but I might use it for the next module I build. 📺I figure if this one is in office I’ll have inspiration to build another one for at home.🔬 I have the parts but lack the ambition.

The upcoming weeks forecast is giving me hope for nicer days. Continued cold but still temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s are better than the 30s and means I can keep the heat off at home. :DAnd despite the snow flurries, the snow keeps melting away as each day we get closer to May.

I was looking back at my dash cam videos of late, thinking about how much I miss traveling. 🐗I enjoy seeing the back roads of America, camping in the wilderness next to the fire. Eventually those days will return. Won’t be long but I’m impatient and there is still a ton of snow up north.

Continuing to work on my custom KML export plug in from QGIS. The dialog part is done and now I’m working on writing code inspired by mmqgis but using the QGIS 3.0 methods to export the KML. Its good because it’s teaching me more about how the rendering engine works. 🌐This will make it easier for me to build things for further automating map production going forward.🗾 That said, map making can never be fully automated because there are a lot of choices in design that have to be made in map making.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is Tax Day 💰 when the sun will be setting at 7:40 pm with dusk at 8:09 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 66 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 59 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 2002.
