Maybe not the coldest Martin Luther King Day ever … โ›„

I could of and probably should have spent another night in the woods last night, but I didn’t. I was put off by the promise of high-winds, heavy snow squalls and my still fairly new camp stove that wasn’t working really well. Going to order a backup regulator and filter so going forward to avoid future problems. I might go back out camping in two weeks, if it warms up for my 41st birthday or maybe I’ll wait until Presidents Day Weekend.

Good morning! Mostly sunny and 18 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Up at 5 AM ๐Ÿ˜€ making some pancakes with oatmeal, wheat flour and shredded carrots ๐Ÿฅ• to get that fiber-rich boost to my morning. Feeling good this morning, I thought I was starting to develop a cough yesterday, but I think I might have breathed into too much campfire smoke ๐Ÿ”ฅ in the cold on Saturday night. Blueberries, mango, honey and pure maple syrup to top the pancakes. ๐Ÿฅž Probably have a bit of a sugar high today, and if not that, I definately did do that second pot of coffee. โ˜• I’m up and going. Clear but cold this morning.

I do think it wouldn’t have been a bad day in woods, ๐Ÿ• but the forecast seemed so bad yesterday, plus I didn’t really pack enough food and I forgot to bring road salt to control the ice at camp. There will be future weekends, or so I tell myself. I do want to make sure I have that stove working well, at full output as I like my pipping hot coffee and eggs cooked quickly ๐Ÿฃ especially on a cold day today. But it’s easier to get up at 5 AM with a heated apartment and electric stove to quickly heat up coffee on such a winter’s morning. I do wish I could be watching the sun rise at camp again.

M. L. King Day will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 28 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Not terrible for mid-January. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1995. Seems like a good day to be listening to Dion’s Abraham, Martin and John on this cold winter day, though it’s expected to warm up as the day progresses. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„ Maybe an inch or two of snow tomorrow. I could drive into my new office, but I think I’ll figure out a way to bus it was the transfers and or the shuttle as I don’t want to deal with snow or for that matter traffic.

Thinking about going for a bike ride this morning ๐Ÿšด‍โ™€๏ธ though the rail trail might be covered with snow. I could just ride the roads, maybe go out to Five Rivers or something. I also want to go to the library for a while, I’ve thought about making some Iowa caucus data from 2016 maps up to share on the blog. ๐Ÿ—บ Then later on this morning, going to head out to the folks house for a visit. ๐Ÿ‘ช Pork roast for dinner, should be yummy. ๐Ÿ˜‹ Last night, I made some chicken soup up, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿณ I was pretty good. I am guessing will be for lunch again too. Then I also want to make some bread up tonight, so I can put that in the oven for the morning. As I want to get in early tomorrow, as it’s the first day with the new position, I do need to be careful about cooking up soup or anything that takes too much time in the morning. Cold enough this morning I heard the heat kick on a few times, especially early on around 5 AM when I first got up to cook breakfast.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:05 pm with sun having an altitude of 26.2° from the due south horizon (-44.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:03 pm with the sun in the southwest (234°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:47 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 5:17 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (206°) at an altitude of 40° from the horizon, 226,535 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:53 pm. At sunset, look for partly sunny skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 28 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 40 seconds over today.

At some point I got to wash my truck and mountain bike, ๐Ÿšฟ both which have a lot of salt and mud on them. But right now with the cold that’s probably pointless as the roads are likely completely encrusted with road salt. There were a handful of things I didn’t get at Hannaford like peppers and more sweet potatoes I’ll probably want to get to get when I run out to Glenmont next time. I could drive in mid-week, and do all of those things on my way home after work. It really depends on how cold it is.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers between 2am and 3am, then a chance of snow after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a low of 20 degrees at 3am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 23rd. Maximum wind chill around 18 at 7pm; Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1971.

I am excited about tomorrow with the new position. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿซ I have so much to learn in my coming months, though everybody seems to think I will be a good fit for the position, with my knowledge of data science and public datasets. In other words, I am good at typing a lot of %>%, though I probably should brush up on Python and certainly COBOL in the coming months. But a lot of things it’s best to leave up to the actual programmers. It’s a big change, but it’s good to embrace change, and I look forward to doing good work and improving my own life. I’ll need to update my investments and tax deductions, but I first want to to slowly bring up the level in my checking account ๐Ÿ’ธ which has been so depleted in recent months, mostly due to inflation eating away at everything. I worry a lot, probably way too much, though I’ve had fewer and fewer problems with actual anxiety attacks since I’ve been eating healthier. ๐Ÿฅฆ But as I note in one of today’s blog post, there are so many problems and risks in the world, ๐Ÿ“‰ that most important thing to do is to protect yourself against all the evils of the world today. They really are out to get you.

Cold and blustery weekend on tap. ๐Ÿงค๐Ÿงฃ โ›„ It’s winter, what I can say. But it’s not expected to last with a warm up expected the following week. Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 17. Blustery. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 23. Probably filming my little part of Reszin documentary that week. Oh, really, as Reszin once said about my bullshitting. Probably too cold to ride over to the filming location, ๐ŸŽฌ which I am not actually sure where it is but it can be combined with a run to the store or Walmart. Always seem to need more food. ๐Ÿ Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until my 41st Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ when the sun will be setting at 5:05 pm with dusk at 5:34 pm. That year of being forty went by like a flash. But it was good day, I mean year especially in the markets. How fast the days come and gone. On that day in 2023, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 44 and 22 degrees. I had a lot of fun camping that weekend, doing a bunch of cross country skiing. Maybe I should do again. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 54 back in 2002.

Grey House

Those bananas and oatmeal pancakes are good on this Saturday morning ๐Ÿฅž

To think all these years I used to eat pancakes made out of white flour, sugar and whatever other chemicals that are in grocery store pancake mix compared to just whole grain oatmeal, a banana and some water run through a food processor and fried with a pan with just a little bit of non stick spray. I just have gotten to hate all prepared mixes and recipes you find on the internet and cook books with 20,000 ingredients and steps which all involve cooking using PFOAs topped pans with lard and substitutes, sugar and substitutes, along with a ton of added salt. But maybe my tastes have changed as I’ve lost weight or you care far more about nutrition then taste. I don’t do portion control but I also don’t eat crap anymore that doesn’t fill my stomach with good nutritious food.

At any rate, Good morning! Happy Saturday. Can you believe it’s already the weekend? ๐Ÿ˜ƒMostly cloudy and 71 degrees at the Elm Ave Town Park . โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. Going to hot and humid ๐Ÿ˜ฐ out later so I figure walk ๐Ÿšถ now before it gets too ungodly hot out later.

Woke up around 5:15 as a fire truck ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’came roaring through the neighborhood and I fell asleep pretty early last night, as I cut my evening walk short โ›ˆ as I was sure it would thunderstorm and pour before I could get home. I also started early after a quick cold dinner of kidney beans with sugar free maple ๐Ÿ syrup. 10 miles on the dot yesterday, I managed to squeeze it out by a quick walk in the Elm Ave Park followed by some laps at Swift Wetland Preserve near where I live then a few laps back inside. Also did 40 flights of stairs up and down at work – two times up and down (morning, lunch, home) to the 18th floor plus four flights in the LOB. Been two weeks of only using the stairs at work. ๐Ÿง—โ€โ™‚๏ธ

I was up early but didn’t start walking ๐Ÿšถ until 6:45 this morning. Had said pancakes ๐Ÿฅž first topped with the remaining farmers market blueberries. They were good ๐Ÿซ but paying $7 for a pint of fresh blueberries even in these inflationary times seems like highway robbery when you can just as healthy frozen 3 lb for a few more bucks. It’s good to treat yourself once and a while. Plus I didn’t want to go to the store until today. ๐Ÿ’ธ Truth be told what I really want is fresh tomatoes ๐Ÿ… and sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ from the farmers market.

Today will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 10am. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

I would like to get in about four 4โƒฃ miles of walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning before heading home ๐Ÿชฐ but the deer fly may change my mind first. Doing the nature trail loop at Elm Ave Park that I do most evenings. Then head home. I want to pull out of the freezer the remaining chicken ๐Ÿ” breast I have to thaw in the fridge for cooking in the oven, probably tomorrow morning early and then refreezing cooked portions for future years. I no longer get the precooked strips because they’re loaded with fat and salt to say nothing of preservatives and so much more expensive than what I can prepare myself and freeze. And also cook up the black beans I have as they’re so good cold with red onions, especially in the heat. Also want to try to make hummus out of the chickpeas I soaked earlier in the week and then roast the rest to mix with blueberries, raspberries,, strawberries and walnuts. ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅœ๐Ÿซ

Then I want to go to the library ๐Ÿ“š and briefly study the spec sheets a bit more on the bicycles I’m researching ๐Ÿ” before heading over to Steiners Sports in Glenmont to hopefully check out the Trek Marlin 5 or 6 and the Trek Verve 2, and maybe the Dual Sport 2 though I’m leaning towards a mountain bike and the Trek brand due to the local popularity and parts and service availability. Then I’ll head over to Market 32 and Walmart for groceries. ๐Ÿ›’ My current lack of frozen fruit and plain Greek yogurt is kind of a bummer especially knowing how hot it’s expected to be by evening.

If Steiner is a bust for getting a bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ, I’ll head to Downtube in the afternoon to look there. Or if I like what Steiner has but they only have my size in Hudson it will be a road trip. They’re Hudson location is also open on Sunday so I could do that tomorrow too. Who knows how this will go. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ, with a low of 66 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 7pm. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1963.

I was so sure I had that dentist appointment next week ๐Ÿฆทbut I am wrong it would appear as I haven’t got an appointment reminder. I called and texted the dentist on Friday but it was after they had closed for the day. I do hope to get out of town next weekend, maybe tacking on Friday and or Monday. โ›บ Maybe just Schoharie especially if I have the bicycle for the Catskill Scenic Trail. And practice my swimming ๐ŸŠ strokes before vacation, which with my weight loss I should be a much stronger swimmer. If next weekend looks bad there is always the free Nature Bus to Thacher Park. ๐Ÿš I haven’t done the Nature Bus yet this year. ๐Ÿ†“

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:05 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 57 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. Burgers and steak ๐Ÿ” are a good treat on occasion and I do like skim milk in coffee โ˜• at times, and plain Greek yogurt remains wonderful ๐Ÿจ but I admit I’ve cut back a lot due to calories and especially the omega 6 saturated fat in cattle. But they’re such wonderful animals for protecting grass lands while putting the land to use in a sustainable fashion. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1997.

I wasn’t going to do an evening walk ๐Ÿšถ

I wasn’t going to do an evening walk ๐Ÿšถ

But it was such a nice evening with the expected heat come the morning I figure get in extra steps this evening before bed even though it’s late. Plus I will need milk for coffee come the morning. ๐Ÿฎ

Went grocery shopping this evening for my weekly sticker shock ๐Ÿคฏ and got the very impressive Pine Bush display from Lynne for the Lupine Festival. Then I saw gas prices in Glenmont. I shouldn’t care, I drive a gasser and so few miles days and make really good money. ๐Ÿ’ต

I pulled a beer out of my truck and put it in the freezer ๐Ÿป and I’m waiting with baited breath for the Special Master to release his maps tonight. ๐Ÿ—บ Such a map geek I don’t even know if can download the shapefile on my phone, and I don’t want to waste my hot spot. I shouldn’t stay up late ๐Ÿ›, I have work to do in the morning with committee agendas before heading over to the Lupine Festival ๐ŸŒฒ.

Good Morning – December 26, 2021

Good morning! Happy Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ !

Except for the wind, and the ice everywhere, probably a good day to burn all those boxes you got yesterday. Keeps them out of the hands of media moguls who are just looking for a story about how everybody is getting robbed of their Christmas gifts.

Partly sunny and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐Ÿ˜Ž There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 21 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 7 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Icy out as I found when I went outside to grab something out of Big Red. โ›ธ But I suspect at least on the roads the salt should not make it too rough, and I’ll probably hike out to Five Rivers in a bit. ๐Ÿฆ Then this afternoon I need to get to the store — maybe Walmart or I could go across the river to Aldis and get groceries for the week. I also want to wash as much of the salt off of Big Red in Glenmont. Did you see they raised the prices at the Car Wash too? ๐Ÿšฟ ๐Ÿ’ธ Inflation, it’s for real. And maybe return beer cans from camping.

Then it’s back to work on Monday. ๐Ÿ’ผ Only a four-day week with New Years Eve on Friday, but the other director is off this week, so everything falls on my lap. Lucky me. But I did get off a week, and I got out of town for four days, granted in rather cloudy and cold Central New York. But it’s winter and three months until April when it starts to get nicer, or so I tell myself.

Had a nice Christmas Lunch at the folks house on Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ… And then a very quiet Christmas at home, working on various little projects I had in the wings, including building a database for Save the Pine Bush with property data. It’s not quite done yet though, and will require more work. Also been working on refining map styles for the blog, and trying to create a state-wide set of contours to use on maps. I also finished unpacking from the camping trip, and doing some cleaning. I know, not the most romantic Christmas ever — but I didn’t want to drive back on Christmas in the rain and ice.

April 16, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today was another real quiet day at work, ๐Ÿ“น the Zoom meeting was called off so I didn’t shower until midday. ๐Ÿšฟ All day I’ve had some diaherea ๐Ÿ’ฉ and I have had to spend more time on the toilet ๐Ÿšฝ then I would like to admit. At least working from home didn’t have to take a sick day.

Got my gear out and ready for camping โ›บ. Not planning a big trip, just a few days away to enjoy some quiet. I’m disabling my cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ and I’m leaving the radio ๐Ÿ“ป home as I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด of hearing non stop Coronavirus coverage. Truth be told, next weekend looks better โ˜€ than this one but it could change before then and who knows the way things are going there might be travel restrictions by then. โ›” I’m hoping not, and I might even do a long weekend next week if it’s nice enough. I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด of being in my moldy apartment so much.

This evening I went to the store got beer, motor oil, money ๐Ÿ’ต and a few other supplies that I couldn’t get at Aldi. All of Walmart was open, they had queues at the doors but they weren’t open. Dropped the paper ๐Ÿ“„ and old clothes and boots off at the recycling center at the park and ride โ™ป. Checked the fluids, topped off the oil and did a quick visual inspection of the belts and suspension and solar system wiring. Still need to get milk ๐Ÿฎ and air up the tires in Red, that’s better to do when the tires are cold in the morning.

Most every thing is packed except for my personal gear like the toothbrush, pots and pans ๐Ÿณ I need for breakfast and the guns I didn’t want to leave overnight in the truck. If I camp where I plan there is a good backstop for shooting. ๐Ÿ”ซ Everything is closed down here – hard to practice. I also updated my fishing license ๐ŸŽฃ and I have the PDF on my phone if I get asked for it.

Spent some time cleaning in the kitchen ๐Ÿšฟ treating the cabinets for mold and scrubbing down the counters so things won’t be so gross when I get home. One of these days it’s going to get hot โ™จ and it will be important to have things as mold free as possible before the humanity peaks. Once the windows are open I’ll repaint the refrigerator which is rusty again.

It seems cleaning good with bleach kills off any RNA of Coronavirus I might have accidentally tracked in. ๐Ÿ‘พ Somehow reading ๐Ÿ“– about that 39 year old farmer in Cansastota who is fighting for his life on a ventalator๐Ÿšœ makes it a lot more real to me. Caronavirus is remarkably bad and spreading fast with farm families who are struggling a lot already. That said, closing the boat launches ๐Ÿšค and other activities seems silly and over the top. At least the Glenmont Car Wash is open so I can wash the salt off my truck after I get back – I checked tonight. ๐Ÿ‘

Tonight will have isolated snow showers before midnight. Mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 30 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 28th. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 29% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 5:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:12 am in the east-northeast (75ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:50 am with sun in the east (82ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 30 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 48 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 25th. West wind 7 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2002. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1965.โ„ Albany might break that record tomorrow depending on when the snow starts tomorrow night and if we get any tonight.

I think where I will be there won’t be a lot of snow โ›„, maybe a dusting come morning but I brought the snow shovel to be safe. The NOAA snow map shows none up there now but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a dusting when I get up there. Even if we get some the sun will make it disappear by morning most likely.

I have work until five o’clock, but maybe if the work load is light I’ll leave early and I can always work on it up at camp on Saturday. โ›บ I want to get set up fairly early as even though the days are longer now its not summer yet by any means. Supposedly it will clear by afternoon. And I’m just thinking a short leg stretcher hike on Saturday with a longer one on Sunday night where hopefully I won’t see another person. ๐Ÿšถ If I do social distancing won’t be hard.

I didn’t get my stimulus check ๐Ÿ’ต because I didn’t owe or getting anything back from the federal government this year. So I have to give them my bank information. ๐Ÿ”ข Unlike owing the state. I’ll have to do that at some point. I’m going to split it between index ๐Ÿ“‡ funds and my higher interest savings account and not touch the money for a while. I think there a lot of potential eventually for good market growth. I don’t see myself getting out of New York for at least a few more years.

In four weeks on May 14 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (297ยฐ) at 8:10 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 13 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain showers, cold weather partly cloudy skies later and temperatures between 48 and 40 degrees. Probably one of the coldest mid May day on record. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1900.

By then, hopefully the Coronavirus shutdown will be over ๐Ÿ‘พ but if not my hope is that it will be at least nice enough to work outside all day or even sit out at Five Rivers with the laptop or the library in a comfortable lawn chair. ๐Ÿ’บ Folks are already getting itchy about the shutdown and if the political winds shift and other states reopen they’ll be a lot of pressure to reboot things. ๐Ÿš Honestly, at that point I might still be a bit nervous about riding the bus or waiting at a busy bus stop ๐Ÿšdowntown but I am getting a bit better at washing my hands ๐Ÿ‘and getting used to wearing the bandana over my face. ๐Ÿ˜ท

Looking ahead, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 3 weeks and Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is a month away.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 36 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

 Looking Out the Lean-To

November 26, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ. Partly sunny and 45 degrees in Glenmont, NY. There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 10 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Waiting to get in to see the doctor 😷 about the tick bite. Slower day at work and I can’t wait any longer on the tick bite, now that I have the rash on my arm. 🎯 It’s very visible now and I’m a bit sore. It ducks for me but hopefully this will get resolved quickly.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 54 degrees at 2pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 1st. South wind 6 to 9 mph. Beautiful day to not be at the doctors office. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 67 was set in 1979. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„ I remember that storm, I cut short my November road trip. Or maybe that was the subsequent storm – it was a very snowy November that year.

The sun will set at 4:25 pm with dusk around 4:56 pm, which is 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 42 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 36 degrees at 2am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 30th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of 8 occurred back in 1957.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 33. Sunday, rain and snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 42 degrees. My metrologist Save the Pine Bush friend thinks next Sunday will be very snowy. I’m not sure.

Still thinking about going camping this weekend after Thanksgiving โ›บ but if I’m on antibiotics I don’t think I will be able to drink 🍻 which would make it lot less fun but I still like apple juice and hot chocolate. 🍏 The bigger issue is that potential snow storm on Sunday which could be bad. โ„ Much of the snow will be gone by Thanksgiving by that part of the Adirondacks due to rain and warmer temperatures but things might get icy after temperatures drop with the cold weather expected by the weekend. Maybe it would be better to rest up and recover from the Lyme and maybe finish up the revised blog design and make more maps. 🌐

I could still see a warm up come later in December and maybe then I can take some time from work to do some winter camping if it’s not too cold and snowy. โ„ I just was in the Adirondacks a few days ago I don’t have to repeat the trip right away.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, mist and temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1966.
