August 4, 2016 9 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Thursday. That means tomorrow is Friday.  Mostly sunny and 67 degrees in Albany, NY. There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. The dew point is 59 degrees. A very nice morning.

Today will be sunny, with a high of 84 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal. South wind around 7 mph. Maximum dew point of 59 at 8am. The record high of 98 was set in 1955. The sun will set at 8:10 pm with dusk around 8:42 pm, which is 1 minutes and 16 seconds earlier than yesterday. Those days are really getting shorter. Today will have 14 hours and 19 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 19 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low of 62 degrees at 4am. One degrees above normal. South wind around 7 mph. Maximum dew point of 60 at 1am. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1972.

0.2 inch of rain expected between Saturday 2am and Saturday 7pm. Not a major washout.

We have some muggy weather coming up. Saturday 4am – Saturday 3pm. Maximum temperature will be 84 degrees, a heat index reaching 86, and a maximum dew point of 68.

There are 3 weeks until State Fair Opens when the sun will be setting at 7:39 pm with dusk at 8:09 pm. The average high temperature is 79 degrees, with a record high of 99 in 1947. While the mercury will only drop slightly in the next few weeks, the sunlight is quickly diminishing in the evenings as we head towards autumn.

While rain is possible throughout Saturday, I think the best chance for rain and thunderstorms is in morning and then it will clear out. I still think I’m going out to Mine Kill State Park on Saturday to swim and fish. I will continue to watch the weather closely. I gased up Big Red last night for $2.12 a gallon (amazing in High Tax New York), and will get the propane tank refilled on Friday night.

Today in 1977, Jimmy Carter signed legislation creating the Department of Energy. The Republicans have been threatening to abolish it ever since, at least when they can remember it’s name, or at least that’s the problem with Rick Perry.

You only have 149 days to enjoy the rest of the year. And seven weeks left to enjoy summer. Get out and enjoy it!
