February 26, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Currently 24 degrees with lots of sun but breezy with a 21 mph west wind, with gusts up to 30 mph. The wind chill value is currently 9. With the bright sun, it doesn’t feel that cold though. Wear a sweater and keep most, you’ll be fine out there.

It was a pretty nice walk down to the Park and Ride, although I didn’t wake up quite as early as some mornings because I got watching a video on my laptop, and lost track of time. Those bushcraft videos you can find on the YouTube are pretty interesting. The blue skies are nice this morning, regardless if you don’t like the cold. Between PBS Newshour and other PBS programs, YouTube videos, and other content, there really is a lot of interesting things to watch.

Today will be sunny, with a high near 30. Blustery, with a northwest wind 17 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Typical late February weather. Tonight the sun will set at 5:40 pm with darkness around 6:09 pm, which is 1 minutes and 15 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 6 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday. That’s nearly three more minutes!

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 14. Northwest wind 5 to 14 mph. Cold night for late February on tap. The weekend will be a fair bit warmer, especially Sunday where they say it might reach 50 in the city.

Tomorrow is my sister’s baby shower then I’m heading up to the Adirondacks to camp. I will pack tonight and pick up any required supplies in Glens Falls after the shower. Sunday I’ll either hike Hadley or maybe that trail in Warrensburg or maybe somewhere else. We will see.

There are 1 month, 28 days until Arbor Day when the sun will be setting at 7:49 pm (Daylight Savings Time).

Today back in 1929,  President Calvin Coolidge signs an executive order establishing the 96,000 acre Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, one of the great jewels of the national park system.

Also in 1972, the Buffalo Creek flood caused by a burst dam kills 125 in West Virginia. Dam safely is important.

Happy Birthday to the late Johnny Cash and the very much still alive but elderly Fats Domino. Both had some remarkably good songs back in their days. They have a nice sunny day, at least in Albany to celebrate their birthdays.

February 25, 2016 Night

Good evening! Currently 36 degrees and overcast with a 18 mph west wind, with gusts up to 29 mph. The wind chill value is currently 26. Pretty damp out there this evening.

Tonight will have scattered rain, sleet and snow showers before midnight, then a slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. West wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tonight will have 12 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night. Tomorrow the sun will rise at 6:34 am with the first light at 6:06 am, which is 1 minutes and 35 seconds earlier then today.

With today’s heavy rain, a bus was stuck in the mud of the soft shoulder along Delaware Ave across Village Drive. They had the big wrecker our there towing it out around 9 pm tonight.

Did my evening walk and went down to the library. I got dad a gift certificate for his birthday. There was a cop sitting out on Elm at the Bypass but he was already reported on Waze before I could do it. Got in about 5 miles of walking in today, which isn’t bad for a weekday.

I have to admit I have already gotten into the habit of watching the PBS Newshour and other TV programs. I generally don’t just watch TV but instead I ended up either cooking or working on my phone or laptop at the same time.

Got my wireless keyboard set up, so when I download videos to my laptop I can control the play of them without getting out of bed. This is kind of nice. The wireless keyboard was only like $28 including free shipping, and makes watching YouTube videos from bed a delight.

Today was a rough day at work Ripping my contact lens made things worse, and I messed up a few things but I survived for yet another day. Friday will hopefully not that bad.

I’m still looking forward to camping on the Adirondacks this weekend but tomorrow I will have to make a final decision than pack if that’s what I decide to do. It would be fun to camp every month of the year this year but with my work schedule, only God knows if that’s realistically possible.

I got the wireless keyboard I ordered and looking forward to playing with it tonight. I can use my monitor to watch videos and control them without getting up. It should be fun.
