September 4, 2017 Night

Good evening! I hope you had a good Labor Day Weekend. It’s partly clear under a nearly full moon and 71 degrees in Delmar, NY. The crickets are singing their song. There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. The dew point is 58 degrees.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 63 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 4am. South wind 9 to 13 mph. In 2016, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1974.

Tomorrow will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before 2pm, then showers likely between 2pm and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 75 degrees at 12pm. One degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 1pm. South wind 8 to 14 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1973.

Looking ahead, next Monday is September 11th when the sun will be setting at 7:11 pm with dusk at 7:39 pm. On that day in 2016, we had thunderstorm, rain, in the vicinity there was thunderstorm, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 77 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 74 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1931.

It was nice camping up at Branch Pond Road in the Green Mountain National Forest. Sunday afternoon was quite wet and that turned everything to mud, and it didn’t clear until after I broke camp this morning, it was still a nice extended weekend and Saturday was most excellent with the hike back to Bourne Pond, a remarkably beautiful but shallow lake below Stratton Mountain. Too bad that lake was so crowded though. I would have liked some beach time or some paddling but the weather wouldn’t cooperate and I’m still need to get a paddle for my kayak. It was still nice camping about 1 mile each year way from the nearest campsite and with the relatively quiet 22 shoot without making too much noise or bothering others.

New shower in my apartment worked well. I like how it has a low flow shower head, it feels like I’m not drowning in water and makes it easier to scrub. I’m still pissed about the landlord removing the bath faucet in the process but I found I could fill my camp water jugs in the kitchen. I do need to do some more cleaning around because the camping gear tracked in quite a bit of mud and get the gear back in the attic.

Summer is all but over. Cooler temperatures seem to be upon us for now, going forward. Maybe it will warm up for swimming at the Potholers but I have my doubts and honestly the sun still sets early. Watch for school buses and traffic delays tomorrow, I’m sure the evening rush will be as awful as it always is during the school year.

This week I hope to hook up that relay that will automatically turn on the dash cam and CB radio when I turn on the key. I will keep the existing switch to turn it on when the truck is off.  It’s just a simple relay and I already have a source of switched power to make it close. The question is how much light I will have after work with the sun setting earlier every day.
