The Beautiful Springtime Sunday Isn’t Expected to Last ๐ŸŒธ

I guess enjoy it while you still can. It will be a nice morning for driving to the Glenmont to get groceries and supplies, maybe fill the propane tank in preparation of traveling next weekend should the weather be decent. I adjusted my bike derailleur and aired up the tires but who knows if I’ll get a chance to ride before the rain returns. I should also replace at least one of the bad windshield wipers too.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Partly sunny and 44 degrees in Delmar. ๐ŸŒค๏ธ There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Out to Walmart this morningย  ๐Ÿ›’ to by food and the plastic packaging it comes in for fire starters ๐Ÿ”ฅ then over to Tractor Supplyย  ๐Ÿฎ to get propane so I’m ready to get out camping. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ As rain is coming later on today, I should also look at getting a windshield wiper blade for my truck.ย  โ›ฝ๏ธ Then gas things up as I want to keep my truck full because with the Middle East going to all shit and summer coming, prices are only going to go up. Hello, inflation my old friend, how are you doing? Unfortunately I am concerned the Middle East situation causing inflation is going to mean elderly Joe Biden is going to get his clocked cleaned this November by the soon-to-be-convicted felon, Donald John Trump. But maybe it’s good, as government really needs to get knocked down a peg or two.

Today will have a chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 55 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 11th. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ West wind 6 to 9 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.โ„

While this morning is real nice, ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ‘‰๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ it’s going to turn to rain much too early this afternoon it seems. Getting shopping though before the rain will be nice, and I might try to squeeze in a bike ride later on now that I’ve adjusted the derailleur on my bike and aired up the tires. ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ It should be a good for riding in at least the first half of the work week. Heading out to the parents house this evening, ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ It’s good to visit the family, as you never know how many times you’ll get another chance to do it. If the rain holds off, I’d like a chance to get some exercise — be it a bike ride or an evening walkย  ๐Ÿšถ but based on the latest forecast I’m not that hopeful.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 57ยฐ from the due south horizon (-13.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:59 pm with the sun in the west (278ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (284ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:37 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:05 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) at an altitude of 66ยฐ from the horizon, 243,304 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:41 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 54 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday ended up staying home ๐Ÿ ๏ธspending a lot of the day reading and thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ or maybe better said dreaming. I finished up a book on permaculture ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ and one on beef farming ๐Ÿ‚ and was doing another book on Java programming ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ and ended up digging into writing C code and working with CSV and Excel files ๐Ÿค“, as I want to improve my C programming skills as a lot of the code we work with at work is written in C.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms before 10pm, then a chance of showers between 10pm and 11pm. ๐ŸŒง Low of 47 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 5th. Northwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.

Been watching as the landlord works on the unit next door. ๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Been doing quite the gutting of the next door apartment, but I realize it’s been a least a decade since that unit was overhauled and I think it needed a lot of work as does my unit. ๐Ÿงน I don’t feel nearly as guilty for all the wear and tear in my apartment, things wear out and building materials — especially cheap ones like my apartment is made up — have a fairly limited lifespan. The refigerator in my apartment is more then 30 years old, and I am sure the carpets and floor are probably at least that old if not older. The mold issues aren’t my problem, or the water that is everywhere due to issues with the foundation not being properly insulated and the building not properly vented. ๐Ÿš๏ธ It’s a cheap, dumpy apartment but despite all my complaints I kind of love it and hope to stay here until I find a permanent home.

Looking ahead to May, which isn’t that far away, there are 3 weeks until Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

It’s all ducking plastic ๐Ÿฅ

Some mornings I wake to the smell of pollution from the plastics plant in Fuera Bush. This morning I woke up early thinking about the Green Building book which seemed to be more concerned about building McMansion’s with green features, and things like closets and how many outlets you need for your smart television. I don’t want a television, I don’t care about schools or how many bedrooms. I just want a cozy little cabin with a lot of land.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Cloudy and 43 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ Calm wind. Totally inappropriate but I have my windows wide open in my apartment. But I like the fresh air, and I’ve become increasingly feral after all these years wearing the suit and playing director for eight hours a day, with a dour but easy going nature it so I tell myself. As long as shit gets done and I don’t get a call from Capitol Hill, I’m good. will drop below freezing at Friday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ I guess at that point I’ll have to close my windows for a few days.

Woke up at 4:30 AM or so this morning and couldn’t get back to bed, ๐Ÿ›Œ so I started cooking down the 15-bean soup on the stove and a little after 5 AM got making some bananas and oatmeal, ๐ŸŒ then some pancakes with mango and honey. ๐Ÿฅž๐Ÿ๐Ÿฏ  Good stuff, the egg in the homemade pancake mix added some protein, and with the oats and wholewheat flour plus mango lots of fiber. Maybe not as much as Johnnycakes with spinach but still pretty good. ๐Ÿฅฆ

I get a chuckle when they send a 115 person articulated bus with seats for 59 out to Voorheesville, ๐Ÿš but this morning it was remarkably full at 7 am. Probably standees wouldn’t be appropriate on a rural / suburban route and they needed to get the bus downtown at any rate for the next run. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ I do wish I could have ridden my bike to work ๐Ÿšฒ as the time on the bus seems like such a time suck. Better use of my time though then driving. ๐Ÿš˜ Those days will be here before you know it, but hopefully by then I’ll have a fuel-efficient easy to drive vehicle.

As it’s going to be raining by evening ๐ŸŒง๏ธ I’m walking the Plaza. ๐Ÿšถ I don’t do as much walking as I used to do being that most days I ride to work. ๐Ÿšฒ I mean I thought about doing the Meads Lane loop on my bike this morning but it’s kind of misting and foggy out. So I’m busing it and taking the shuttle ๐Ÿš€ out to the suburban office. I heard the normal shuttle got in a wreck so it’s been a state pool car lately. I don’t mind, as long as we can all squeeze in and I can get to work. Worse comes to worse, I can hop on the CDTA Route 22, though that’s another bus fare. It seems so petty when I’m planning to buy land and build a house, but every little bit helps. That’s how I got as far as I got.

Today will rain likely, mainly after 5pm. Patchy fog between 9am and 10am. Otherwise, cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 2pm. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1974. 10.5 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

At times I get so fustrated looking at land, ๐Ÿšœ though I shoudn’t be as there are definitely options out there. The one I looked at yesterday, after studying the LIDAR and running the stats is really too sloped to build on. Another one has a nice price, but I’m not convinced it’s an all-season road, despite what the seller says, and there is other parcels proposed to be sold nearby. ๐Ÿ” None of them is perfect, but I am developing a plan on what is important, learning what is out there, piece by piece. And I can’t fall too much in love with any one parcel, as it could disappear from the market before I’m ready to buy. โค๏ธ I do worry a bit about winter driving, but if it’s bad, I can always call in or work from home. โ„๏ธ People may be pushing me towards things I don’t care about, like plastic houses and good school districts, or marble counter tops and closet size, but I know what I want — that basic cabin that complies with town codes — but is simple to maintain and uses wood and solar energy produced on site,  and provides land for homesteading and having fires. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”ฅ I get many people care about marble countertops and looking pretty, but that’s not on my list.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 41.9° from the due south horizon (-28.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:14 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (257°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (264°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:52 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 53 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 39 degrees at 5am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 20th. North wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1950.

Today in 1857, Supreme Court of the United States rules in the Dred Scott v. Sandford case. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš–๏ธ Often said to be one of the worse decisions ever, conservatives cling to the idea that so-called bad liberal rulings like Row v Wade can be overturned by future courts. Honestly, I think the court should be getting the government off people’s backs, if anything overruling cases that limit liberty rather then expanding the police state by making it easier for the government to pass new laws. I don’t celebrate baby murder like some people do, but I also don’t think we should be in the business of ban everything.

Not going camping this weekend either. ๐Ÿ˜ž The sun ain’t going to shine anymore. At least on the weekends. Saturday, a chance of rain after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, rain likely before 1pm, then showers likely after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees. Still at least it’s mild and not much of a fire risk.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:33 pm with dusk at 8:01 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2023, we had sunny and temperatures between 67 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

 Almost Sunset

After a nice night in the wilderness ๐ŸŒฒ

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Mostly sunny and 22 degrees at the Rensselaerville State Forest. ๐ŸŒž Deep blue skies with glittering trees with the sunshine. There is a north breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at Wednesday around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 32 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around January 25th. North wind 7 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 18 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1991. 15.5 inches of snow fell back in 1926.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 31.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-39.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). Good for solar power. Except for the heavy frost we had last night kind of covering the panel on my truck. A six foot person will cast a 9.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:33 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:14 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 7 seconds with dusk around 5:43 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:17 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 28 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 15 degrees at 6am. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 3rd. Maximum wind chill around 9 at 5am; North wind around 9 mph. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1918.

Looking ahead, next Sunday is Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› when the sun will be setting at 5:24 pm with dusk at 5:51 pm. On that day in 2023, we had mostly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 38 and 23 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. Definitely past the coldest time of the year by then. Heck it might be in the fifties by Friday. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1981.

Looking through the woods

Decided to head out for a night of winter camping ๐Ÿ•

It’s such a glistening and beautiful winter day here at the State Forest. I wish I had cross country skis after mine got worn out, snapped, then chopped up burnt last winter. So much fiberglass in those skis, and they held up for 20 years, but like all things, they don’t last forever.

Good afternoon! Partly cloudy and 26 degrees at the Rensselaerville State Forest. โ›… There is a north breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The trees are still covered with snow and there is something we haven’t seen in a long time — blue skies. There is a 6 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Wednesday around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

It is remarkably beautiful out today. ๐Ÿ˜€ Cold but beautiful. Yet that’s to be expected camping in the winter up in the mountains. The good news is the road is nice and solid this time for camping, so not playing in the mud or getting wet. The snow is frozen fairly solid, but also is light in fluffy. If I had skis, this would be almost ideal weather for skiing. ๐Ÿšฒ After lunch and finishing setting up camp ๐Ÿ• and gathering firewood ๐Ÿชต I plan to ride some of CCC Road and maybe go down to the OSI Parcel ๐Ÿ“ธ to look at the snow covered mountains. Then come back to camp and have a good fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

This afternoon will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 29 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal. North wind around 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 2016. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2004.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 30.8° from the due south horizon (-40.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:31 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (248°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:13 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:42 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:16 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 27 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 23 seconds over yesterday.

One thing that’s nice about this time of year ๐ŸŒ† is we are definitely picking up more daylight in the evening, which makes it not as long at camp. That’s good as the nights can drag on. Going to be fairly cold but not super cold by the campfire for tonight, and I will have a nice fire.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 18 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 15th. Maximum wind chill around 9 at 1am; Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1978.

Looking ahead to next weekend, the following Saturday is Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน when the sun will be setting at 5:23 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. On that day in 2023, we had mostly cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 51 and 34 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.

Gathering Clouds

I think I can ride in today, one last time in January ๐ŸŒซ๐Ÿšด

I was a bit on the fence, but not being able to catch the earlier express in and walk the plaza due to riding late, I decided to ride to work. First time riding in to suburban North Albany, going to take the Delmar Bypass, then South Pearl Street to the bike path as I’m not sure how much snow is left on the bike path.

Good morning! Clouds, some fog and 40 degrees in Delmar. โ˜” Calm wind. There is roughly an inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธWarm weather is continued to be forecasted for the next few days. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

This morning was eggs with a lot of onions, broccoli, and other delicious things. ๐Ÿณ I also baked carrot bread and also a loaf of onion bread and sweet potatoes in the oven this morning. The onion bread is saved in the freezer ๐Ÿž for later in the week. Last night I took some well freezer-burnt pork roast, cooked up with a lot of chunks of apples, vegetables, mushrooms and onions in a frying pan, added it bunch of spices and called it a delicious dinner. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I am continuing to work on cleaning out my freezer one meal at a time, while developing well balanced, nutritious fiber and vitamin-rich meals. โ˜• Made a second pot of coffee up as I was running late, though I’ve been cutting back on the amount of coffee I’ve been drinking at home as I can get it a work too.

Today will have a chance of showers or drizzle, mainly before 8am. Patchy fog. Otherwise, cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 45 degrees at 12pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 15th. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1938. 9.5 inches of snow fell back in 2000.โ„

Obviously it’s still too dark in the evening to ride all the way home, ๐Ÿšด but my hope is to ride down to the old train station — Peter Kiernan Plaza — and catch the express bus home from there. ๐ŸšŒ I think after President’s Day, assuming the rail trail is free of snow, โ„ I’ll be able to ride both ways to work on nice days. We’ll see how often that happens in February, though so far the first half of the month looks fairly mild.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 28.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-42.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:17 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:59 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:29 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-northeast (64ยฐ) at an altitude of 5ยฐ from the horizon, 249,514 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:04 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 7 seconds over today.

Last night was cold and rainy, ๐Ÿž so I spent the evening cooking up the old pork roast I had in the freezer ๐Ÿท and then kneading bread for the morning. Then I went to bed a little after 8 PM, so I could enjoy the heated blanket. ๐Ÿ›Œ I wasn’t going to turn on/up the heat if it’s going to be above freezing. I have lots of good things to eat going forward the next few days, probably including more of the fabled pea soup that contains that old stewing beef. Hoping to finish much of that off tonight, and will freeze whatever remains. Then tomorrow night I’ll break out some old lasagna I had in the freezer, and fry that up with vegetables and seasoning. Probably use up the rest of the sweet potatoes ๐Ÿ  that I baked up the other day. It comes out much better then reheated nasty, calorie dense mush from the microwave.

Tonight will rain, mainly after midnight. Patchy fog. ๐ŸŒง Low of 36 degrees at 3am. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 10th. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2023, we had light drizzle in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1920.

Continued mild and cloudy this weekend. ๐ŸŒฆ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Sunday, a chance of snow before 7am, then rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Thursday is February ๐ŸŒง when the sun will be setting at 5:09 pm with dusk at 5:38 pm. Often February has some of the biggest snowstorms and cold bursts, even though on average things are starting to warm up. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 29 and 12 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 1989.

One last week of being forty โณ

I guess I’m getting old. But hopefully once my birthday comes and goes things will start to thaw out again. Winter can’t last forever, regardless of what a Pennsyltucky varmint says a week from Friday.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Mostly clear and 8 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. ๐ŸŒ… There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

The hell with my hands ๐Ÿ‘‹I’m going out riding. ๐Ÿšฒ It’s cold โ„ and my fingers might get swollen and stiff but I need to get some exercise as I’ve been lethargic all weekend with the cold and wind. Mom thinks I need better gloves ๐Ÿงค but I’m tired of having swollen stiff fingers. I’ll be fine once I warm up plus I like seeing the cows ๐Ÿฎ and the rural landscape riding Meads Lane in the morning. With the rain and warmth coming later in the week it’s possible once again I will be able to ride work. โ˜บ

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜€ ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜, with a high of 33 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around January 26th. Yes this week we get past the coldest time of year. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1906. 12.9 inches of snow fell back in 1987.โ„

I never used to have a problem with the cold โ„ but it bothers me a lot more these days. Says the boy who winter camps in an unheated pickup bed in January and goes for bike rides on eight degree days. But it never used to so damn painful. I mean I still keep my heat at 49 degrees in my apartment but I do like the heated blanket more and more but then again I sleep in just my boxers and an under shirt. ๐Ÿฉณ But the cold does bother me a lot more.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 27.6° from the due south horizon (-43.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:12 pm with the sun in the southwest (236°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:55 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 15 seconds with dusk around 5:25 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east (82°) at an altitude of 35° from the horizon, 242,145 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:01 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 33 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 59 seconds over today.

As I mentioned the other day, my new office has coffee โ˜• but not milk ๐Ÿฅ› and like it in my coffee. They have fake creamer made from whey and corn syrup but I much the real stuff from the teats of animals that go moo and smell like silage. ๐Ÿฎ So I’m bringing in a mason jar into the office with milk plus cinnamon, ginger and vanilla for good drinking. They also have an ice maker in the new office which is perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ for iced coffee come the summer. ๐ŸงŠ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 25 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 11th. Maximum wind chill around 23 at 6pm; South wind around 7 mph becoming west after midnight. In 2023, we had light snow. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1970.

I didn’t make bread this morning, ๐Ÿž but I probably will tonight knead up some dough for cooking in the morning. I figured skip the carbs this morning, plus I’m thinking stir-fry for dinner tonight. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿณ Also want to use up an older sweet potato I have before I risk it going bad. ๐Ÿ  In breakfast I included some meatballs with the eggs I had to further clean out the freezer. Trying to use up the last of the less healthy stuff from last year so I have more room in the freezer going forward for healthier options going forward. Left to use up is two frozen grocery store meatballs, an never opened pack of Falvo’s Meatballs, and some fish sticks. Thinking of using the remaining grocery store meatballs and fish sticks in various meals this week. ๐ŸŸ With lots of vegetables ๐Ÿฅฆ and other healthy options.

Cloudy, mild and showers this upcoming weekend. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Sunday, a chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. I am considering potentially doing a winter camping trip to celebrate my 41st birthday, but maybe not as things might be all mud ๐Ÿท with all the rain expected. But certainly mild. I still think the best chance to get out of town is going to be Presidents Day, though I’m watching the weather before then. Still after the rain and mild temperatures, the rail trail should be free of snow and ice ๐Ÿšฒ for riding again.

As previously noted, next Monday is my 41st Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ when the sun will be setting at 5:05 pm with dusk at 5:34 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 44 and 22 degrees. Not divisible by five, no carrot ๐Ÿฅ• cake ๐ŸŽ‚ for me at work but then again I had a going away, or at least going up to North Albany party two weeks ago and I still have cake in my freezer, lol. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 54 back in 2002.
