November 20, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. HASH TAG waste your money on stupid plastic stuff. ๐Ÿ’ธโ†”๏ธ๐Ÿ—‘ Clouds with some clearing and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a south breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 30. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Going one of the most pleasant Fridays in recent weeks. โ›… Lots of sun and mild. It’s good, the past few days have been cool and I’ve had the heat on, especially working from home. But today it will be off and maybe crack open a window or two for fresh air.

Took the first shower ๐Ÿšฟ since Sunday. Working from home I don’t find the need to bathe ๐Ÿ›€๐Ÿป nearly as regularly as I’m not getting dirty and nobody cares if you are unshaved or smelly when you are social distancing. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป Plus it saves a lot of wash ๐Ÿ‘š and water ๐Ÿ’ฆ to wear the same clothes for multiple days.

A few rain drops ๐Ÿ’ง as I go for my morning walk. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป But it’s reasonably warm to be walking for late November in a t-shirt ๐Ÿ‘• with my vest over it. The air has a slight tang of barnyard and manure on it ๐Ÿฎ, but it’s November in Upstate NY. The sun โ˜€ certainly feels nice but at 10 or 15 degrees from the horizon it can only put out so much warmth.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 55 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 29th. South wind 9 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1991. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

I have a virtual meeting this afternoon ๐Ÿ“น which I’ll probably just walk down to the library or town park to do. I also want to download some of that MIT Election Lab data so I can play โ–ถ with that during down time this weekend. ๐Ÿ“š I also should look at getting some books out of the library to read in the evening and maybe work on some electronics projects now that the long winter is upon us. Nothing like breathing in some fumes from lead solder in one’s bedroom. ๐Ÿ”ฌ Says the boy ๐Ÿง’๐Ÿป whose burned his share of plastics over the years. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:42 am with sun having an altitude of 27.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:47 pm with the sun in the southwest (236ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 4:59 pm, which is 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south (180ยฐ) at an altitude of 27ยฐ from the horizon, 240,016 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:35 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 54 seconds over today.

I am glad my state inspection ๐Ÿš˜ ๐Ÿ” is done and the new registration is on my truck. I always worry about it a lot, especially now that my tires are getting worn down. I drove only 6,700 miles since last year according to the odometer although that’s off by 13% due to the 35 inch tires. This year I didn’t go to Western NY or Pennsylvania and generally have been doing more social distancing so fewer trips to the store ๐Ÿฌ but more to the library for remote work. Plus with the solar panel and the two accessory batteries ๐Ÿ”‹ on my truck, I would generally set up camp and remain parked ๐Ÿ…ฟ for multiple days.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 18th. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west after midnight. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1879.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 49 degrees at 12pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 14th. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 0.8 inches of snow fell back in 1937.โ„

Cool but hopefully sunny and warm enough for a pleasant walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ. Those blue birds were pretty that I saw there the other week. I am not expecting a ton of sun but I like the exercise. You never know what wildlife you will see while up there. ๐Ÿฆ‰

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of rain after 1pm. โ˜” Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. โ˜๏ธ Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.

I’ll probably go out to the folks house on Sunday. ๐Ÿฒ No big plans for Sunday, it might play with some of that Election Geodata I found on the MIT Election Lab ๐Ÿ”ฌ that I found the other night. Working from home ๐Ÿก means less commuting time and sometimes downtime at work and no library to walk to weeknights or the weekend so I’ll have to figure new ways to keep busy during the long winter nights.

As previously noted, next Friday is Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny skies, rain showers and temperatures between 57 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1896.

I am hoping next weekend to get up to the Adirondacks โ›ฐ โ„ to do some hot tenting โ›บ and hiking during the three day weekend. That said, not sure about the long range forecast. Might be kind of rainy. I’ll have to drive back Sunday as I don’t want to drive back in the dark from the Adirondacks. Some years the snow and ice hold off until January and I can do trips until the end of the year. Based on the amount of junk mail โœ‰ I got yesterday, the mailman is rooting for me to go it next weekend – certainly will have plenty of paper to start fires with. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Pickup Truck

April 1, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. It’s a nice moonlit night ๐ŸŒƒ and with lots of stars โœจ and not too cold. It is That said, with the breeze it’s cold out back and I think I’ll retire to bed shortly where it’s warmer.

It was a nice day for a Hump Day. ๐Ÿช I haven’t been following Homesteady on YouTube to see if they have any more of their cammel dairy videos, although they still have their Jerseys too. ๐Ÿฎ Camel milk apparently is good for children and their nursing mothers who are allergic to cows milk. Need a special stall a camels aren’t shaped like cows, even though they have four quarters and teats like cows. Great YouTube channel though.

Another pretty quiet day at work, and I worked from either outside or in my truck all afternoon. ๐Ÿ’ป I think people were impressed by me in the Zoom meeting from my backyard with the trees, the High School and the Heldebergs in the background. Even though my apartment isn’t very nice there is a lot to be said about where I live in Delmar. I’ll probably stay here until I leave the state for good, I just can’t imagine buying land in New York.

Maybe it’s because I know how the sausage ๐Ÿฃare made. Yeap, they grind up all the low desirability cuts of meat to tenderize it, use part of the intestines for the casing. That book ๐Ÿ“™ I read some ago on butchering was fantastic. Sounds gross but then you realize it’s just a mixture of grass and fermented corn silage the cows been eating all day. Almost all corn silage ๐ŸŒฝ are and the majority of hay fed to cows is produced on the farm where they’re raised in New York State, although sometimes other grains like corn itself are purchased. But that’s beyond the point, I was in Clarksville today and it got me thinking about it all. At least I got paid on Tuesday unlike state employees or the many non essential employees they have been laid off during Coronavirus. For that I can thank my lucky stars. ๐ŸŒŸ

I decided after going out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center to hike Bennett Hill again. ๐Ÿšถ It was a nice evening up on Bennett Hill but it got cloudy โ›… later on. A lot of people up there again, which is annoying because I really take serious being at 10 or more feet away from people – or even further in physical distancing, as the term is. I’ve noticed the last two times I’ve been up there it’s been super clear – I think the reduced haze is from less air pollution due to fewer drivers and businesses being open. That certainly is the case in Los Angeles. Then I came home and went for my evening ๐ŸŒƒ walk on this very moonlit evening.

Five Rivers was nice – spring peepers are out in force around Skeeter Pond.๐Ÿธ I got a whole lot of podcasts and videos to listen to next few days on the exercise bike or elsewhere. My neighbor has been gone all day – he works shift work, I wonder if he’s a nurse or involved in the Coronavirus response. I also got a text saying that my phone plan is giving me an extra 10 gigabytes monthly through the end of May, so I can use over a gigabyte of high speed data each day or 35 gigabytes per 30 days. Kind of nice to not have to worry about bandwidth so much on my phone not having internet at home.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 34 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 6th. North wind 7 to 10 mph. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of 17 occurred back in 1964. I’m hoping at this point the heat can be off until November.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 58% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the southwest (222ยฐ) at an altitude of 66ยฐ from the horizon, some 234,681 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by September 26th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ Being relatively close to the earth its quite bright. The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Tuesday, April 7. The darkest hour is at 1:00 am, followed by dawn at 6:09 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:38 am in the east (83ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:15 am with sun in the east (89ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 12 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 53 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 3rd. Northwest wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. I think the morning is supposed to be better with clouds by afternoon. I have the work laptop so I won’t have to go to the library or Five Rivers for work stuff, and I have plenty of podcasts and videos to watch at home if I want. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 2010. 8 inches of snow fell back in 1924.โ„

I‘ve decided this weekend is a good one to stay in town for but assuming that the weather is nice for the long Easter weekend ๐ŸฐI am still thinking about 3 nights in the Adirondacks leaving Thursday after work or maybe actually jotting out a bit early. I doubt where I am I’ll see any one else. Do some hiking and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ, making sure to stay six feet or even further AWAY. โ˜บ Still some snow up north but not a lot and I expect it to continue melting next week.

Continuing on and off to work on the updated blog theme. ๐Ÿ“ It’s a work in progress with many parts unfinished but it will focus on being more of an immersive full screen experience like some of those popular photo blogs. ๐Ÿ“ท Maybe I won’t adopt the new theme, I’m not sure but I have the time to work on it, although soon my work load will pick back up – but in the meantime I’m still saving a lot of time by not having the commute or ironing shirts ๐Ÿ‘š or getting prepared for work each day and leaving at a set time.

From time to time I see the advertisement for Northwood Mapping a business out of Wisconsin which does professional mapping for land owners and hunters. ๐ŸŒ He has some interesting products for sure, stuff I could probably do myself and have printed professionally – the thing is print shop costs aren’t cheap and it’s tough making it self employed. Folks do it like Lynne Jackson from Save the Pine Bush but it ain’t easy. Remarkably expensive to run a business. At any rate it doesn’t hurt to hone my mapping skills๐Ÿ—พ and continue to get my name out there with the blog.

In four weeks on April 29 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (291ยฐ) at 7:53 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 51 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny skies for a while than rain showers and temperatures between 58 and 31 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 64 and 42 degrees. The record high of 88 degrees was set back in 1888.

Looking ahead, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 1 weeks, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 2 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 3 weeks, May ๐Ÿ•Š is a month away, June ๐Ÿน is in 2 months, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 12 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 42 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 50 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

East Towards Sherburne

January 1, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear around 11 pm.

Not a half bad evening for early January, I went out for the evening walk and then laid back in my bed catching up on my YouTube. 📹Mostly just the latest kind of silly update from Keith Fink dairy farm and their silly Jersey cows 🐮.

I had a nice New Years Day fondue with the parents and did my wash out there before coming home. 🍲 There was a crash on Route 32 so it was closed and I ended up being detoured over through Clarksville on the way home. It was fine but the road was dark after my exhaustion from last night I found the driving hard 🚘. Since adjusting my headlights night driving isn’t as bad but I still don’t really enjoy it.

It’s nice to be back home but I did enjoy my night out during the first night of the new year. 🎇 Granted that I only stayed out by the fire until quarter to eleven, then retiring to the warmth of the tent until midnight. Still not sure if I dosed off a bit in the tent before waking up shortly before midnight but it was watching the clock flip over to midnight and then shut off the heater and lights and retire to bed just like I plan to do shortly.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 26 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 16th. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1970.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 40% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the south (178ยฐ) at an altitude of 42ยฐ from the horizon, some 252,272 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 Keeps getting farther away. Before you know it, you’ll have to plan an extra vacation day to dance on the moon. 🌕 The moon will set in the west (264ยฐ) at 11:04 pm. The darkest hour is at 11:59 pm, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (121ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 24 seconds. Sunrise is 7 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:12 am with sun in the southeast (129ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 53 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 43 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 12th. I’ll take a sunny mid March like day in January. Too bad it couldn’t happen when I had it off. South wind 6 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1890. 7.1 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

I am thinking about washing my truck 🚿 tomorrow and going to the store although maybe if it’s going to rain on Friday or Saturday those would be better days once the salt is off the roads. The truck is so muddy from Madison County and so salty from driving up to Cole Hill. It really was a fun trip between the two nights but certainly different than the Finger Lakes trip I had originally envisioned. โ›บ

Somehow that said, I really liked getting away to Madison County. 🐮 It was just so muddy and brown this time of year but I kind of liked the rural character and how different it is from Albany. I just like seeing all the run down houses and farms, they’re real compared to the city, even if the farm country did have a very distinctive barnyard and wood smoke smell this time of year. Plus I like having my truck for camping – it’s a lot of work to drag my gear back to camp that half mile back I was camping last night. ๐Ÿ’ก Plus I like all the pretty Christmas lights although with my fully working gas lantern 🏮 it’s not that bad. That said camping last night was more fun than staying home. I really should think about getting back to Moscow Hill later in the winter, especially if they don’t have a ton of snow out there.

I did have quite a bit of trouble with the sled flipping hauling gear out. 💥Not sure the problem, I’m thinking I didn’t have the center of gravity low enough and the snow was cold and icy this morning unlike last night 🌃. Plus the tent poles were icy and I might have been a bit out of it from the previous late night. The propane tank is about half full now so it was sloshing around quite a bit. I got a late start too as I’ve been enjoying sleeping in lately.

I did notice some aching in my knee again today and my arm where I got the tick bite🙋. Mom thinks I should call 📞 the doctor 😷 and see about an appointment now and if I feel better before the visit cancel it. I’ve not been as sick as before I had the course of doxycycline but I do feel like at times I have the residuals of Lyme. I think I should make my health care a greater priority in the coming year – I really need to overcome the Lyme disease and start getting regular physicals and maybe start doing more high intensity exercises besides riding the exercise bike and walking. 🚲 I like the idea of doing more backpacking and back country camping โ›บ.

I’m also thinking about getting some mental healthcare this year. 💭 I’m learning more about how having good mental health can improve productivity and mood, plus it would be good to have somebody to bounce idea off of – what to do with my truck when tires wear out – do I keep having a truck, do I stay in Albany, do I go somewhere else and do something new in my life? My dreary basement office 🏢 is just so depressing. I keep learning about how many interesting opportunities there is out west, but am I too afraid to take the jump? ๐Ÿ˜ People have told me that I have depression and some of my frustration with the way things are going are due to it. Plus if the Lyme gets worse, rather than better counseling may be helpful. Just a stupid tick bite. 🐜

In four weeks on January 29 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) at 5:04 pm,🌄 which is 31 minutes and 55 seconds later then tonight. That’s my 37th birthday. In 2019 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 29 and 5 degrees. That was kind of busy, long day for me last year at work, hopefully now with my new 9-5 job it won’t be such a late night. Heck, maybe even get some of those drink specials after work. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 15 degrees. The record high of 54 degrees was set back in 2002.

Looking ahead, Bubble Bath Day 🧼 is in 1 week, 37th Birthday 🎉 is in 4 weeks, February 🌧 is a month away, March 🌨 is in 2 months, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is in 9 weeks, April Fools Day 🤡 is in 3 months, Pink Moon 🌕 is in 14 weeks, Tax Day 💰 is in 15 weeks, Earth Day 🌎 is in 16 weeks, May 🕊 is in 4 months, June 🍹 is in 5 months, Latest Sunset 🌆 is in 25 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 55 weeks.

Branch Light

November 13, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 16 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Snow is largely gone after the sun and breeze today. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Without the wind it’s been a pretty mild evening, ๐Ÿšถ I have a feel that it wasn’t that cold on my evening walk. Did smell like barnyard (manure and hay) when I walked past the Sunset Farm, they must have been hauling out the deep-pack earlier in the day, getting it on the fields, before things freeze up. ๐Ÿฎ I don’t mind the smell much, I like cows and country living. And without farms no milk or beef, and that would make me unhappy. I thought about going down to the library to get on the internet but after riding the bike ๐Ÿšฒ it was getting late so I just went down to the library for a while. The walk was pleasant. Catching up on YouTube for a bit now as I lay in bed.

I screwed up at the end of the day at work, lost track of time โŒš and almost missed the express bus home ๐Ÿก. I just got working on a spreadsheet ๐Ÿ“Šand had no idea 5 pm came and went. Only a few minutes after hours but I had to run to catch the express bus ๐Ÿš.

Still have a bit of a cough but I’m feeling pretty good and haven’t had any headaches or symptoms ๐Ÿค’ and my energy levels have been high. Been riding the exercise bike and did my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Had more fish ๐Ÿ  and green beans for dinner with apple ๐Ÿ juice.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 14 degrees at 11pm. 18 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical Maximum wind chill around 16 at 9pm; Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of 12 occurred back in 1996.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 93% illuminated. The moon will set at 8:40 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Monday night. The Cold Moon ๐ŸŒ is in 4 weeks. The sun will rise at 6:44 am with the first light at 6:14 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 14 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. South wind 7 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1973. 14.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„

I found the Twitter bug ๐Ÿ› in my blog code, so the Twitter feed is back on. Twitter isnt nearly as obnoxious with the API breaks, actually the latest issue had to do with a break in the WordPress API and how it interacts with my plug in ๐Ÿ”Œ. Really only required a handful of code lines changed.

I find Twitter isn’t as contentious of a place as Facebook but then again I’m rarely on the site myself – I just syndicate my blog there. Still have issues with future ๐Ÿ”ฎ posts showing too early but the issue had proven had to track down in the code.

I do go on Facebook a lot but I don’t post much of my blog content on there. I don’t like the lack of control over content and placement on that site. ๐Ÿ“ท Photos and maps posted to the blog remain my own

In four weeks on December 11 the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 13 minutes and 5 seconds earlier then tonight. Along the Rail Trail

February 25, 2019 9 AM Update

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday the Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ. Most cloudy with a few peaks of sun. and 28 degrees in Delmar. โ„ Only a few gusts earlier, but now it seems like the breeze is picking up a bit ๐Ÿ’จ. Definitely windy come this afternoon, especially in the city with all the buildings for the breeze to blow through The current wind chill is 23 but it fall through the days. The rain and warmer temperatures haven’t been good to frosty, with just piles of snow and a lot of bare ground at this point. โ˜ƒ But the rest of the week should be pretty cold, with things only starting to thaw out at Friday around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

The big story today, at least if the news men are to believed is that it’s going to be a very blustery day.๐ŸŒช Maybe, but it wasn’t too bad walking down to the express bus stop this morning. ๐ŸšA bit chilly, but by the time I got there, I unbuckled my jacket because I was starting to sweat a bit from the calories being burnt.โ™จI heard a few gusts on the bus coming downtown, but for the most part the tree branches are just gently blowing in the wind, and it’s not that windy out for now. But I did leave the heat turned up, so I don’t get stuck with dropping temperatures and a cold apartment when I get home, and the off-chance I loose power tonight, it will make it less cool. I noticed my flashlight isn’t working, but I have another one I can use, worse comes to worse — and if it’s dark tonight, so be it. I’ll just retire to bed early. ๐Ÿ”ฆ

I checked for widow makers over my truck before I parked it last night, and I think I’m good although I guess there is one tree that potentially could fall, but if it did I doubt it would where the truck is parked. ๐Ÿ…ฟ Most of the yard is pretty safe though, as the landlord cut down all the trees.๐ŸŽ‹I made sure the trash can tops were bungees on well this morning before I left, as I’ve had the tops blow off and they can be difficult to find in the neighbors lawn, especially if it snowed like it did that one year. I haven’t been to the transfer station yet this year, โ™ป so the cans are good and heavy, I’d like to say because I’ve worked hard to cut down on waste compared to years past, but it’s probably more to do with the fact I was out of town in the autumn for work, and I was out camping for nine nights in December. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Today will have a chance of snow showers, mainly between 2pm and 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 29 degrees at 12pm. Eight degrees below normal. Windy, with a west wind around 30 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2017. 16.8 inches of snow fell back in 1966.โ„

The sun will set at 5:40 pm with dusk around 6:08 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 27 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 11. โ˜ƒ๏ธBlustery, ๐ŸŒฌ with a stiff breeze at 29 mph the west-northwest with gusts up to 53mph. That’s not going to be very fun at the bus stop this evening. ๐ŸŒช Today will have 11 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 13 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -1 at 5am; Breezy, with a northwest wind 17 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. I think this is a good evening to stay home and ride the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ when either watching a video or listening to the podcast. ๐ŸŽง The wireless headphones are great for that, especially now that I got them to pair with the laptop. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1950.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 20 degrees at 12pm. 18 degrees below normal. That’s ducking cold. Won’t be as windy but still super cold for the last week of March. At least it’s a work day. Maximum wind chill around 5 at 12pm; Northwest wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Granted, it’s better then what a cold day would be like in late December or early January. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1976. 8.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„

Yesterday I went out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. Picked up some groceries, wasn’t happy that my grocery bill was $55, which is more than I wanted to spend this week but I needed new boxers and they were like $15 for five. ๐Ÿ’ฐ Left the heat turned up today, so there goes more money. At least it seems like the spring will be mild so maybe soon I can turn off the heat until November.

Tomorrow is a session day, so it’s back to wearing the suit and tie.๐Ÿ•ดI was looking on JC Penny’s website for like an hour trying to see if I could order another pair of dress pants to match my blazer, and while I carefully wrote down the label, I am not sure if I could find an exact match — plus they wanted to charge me $9 for the shipping unless I ordered $99 of goods. So many options online, it’s always confusing when your trying to order a matching anything at the store.

I have two perfectly matching pair of pants although one has a tear in a seem , along with two older ones that aren’t a good match, and a newer one.๐Ÿ‘– I don’t wear them all the time, so they’ve held up well but some of the older ones are getting shabbier. I might go to the store during the weekend to pick

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 43. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 30. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees. Doesn’t sound like a really nice weekend, might stay in town as spring can’t be that far away.

As previously noted, next Monday the Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:49 pm with dusk at 6:17 pm. On that day in 2018, we had snow showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 38 and 32 degrees. The moral of the story, is average doesn’t mean we have that every week. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1919.

In four weeks on March 25 the sun will be setting at 7:13 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 15 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 44 and 28 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 48 and 29 degrees. Looking forward to nicer weather. The record high of 74 degrees was set back in 1910.

Looking ahead, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ in 1 week, April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก is in 5 weeks, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 7 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 8 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 13 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 18 weeks and Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 24 weeks.

Along the Trail

February 23, 2019 Evening

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThe skies will clear Monday around 5 pm. Enjoy the relatively mild weather now before the rain and ice begins tonight, followed by some strong wind gusts and cold but sunny weather for the work week.

This morning was the Pine Bush hike ๐ŸŒฒbut I was the only one who showed up so I enjoyed the hike by myself. Gave me more time to enjoy nature. Later on I came home, had some lunch and then had a bit of a sick stomach. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Felt sick after lunch, I wonder though if it was something I ate because as quick as I was sick I started feeling better. Later on I went down to the library for a bit to upload some new maps.

This evening I had fish sticks and mixed vegatables for dinner, ๐ŸŸthen rode the excerise bike for a while, ๐Ÿšดmaybe 45 minutes watching some YouTube videos I downloaded, ๐ŸŽฅthen laid back in bed for a while before deciding to go for my evening walk. Figured I should get out and get as much excerise as possible before tomorrow’s rain and the busy work week ahead.๐Ÿ’ฆ

Tonight will rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet likely before 3am, then rain or freezing rain between 3am and 4am, then rain after 4am. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 30 degrees at 11pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 27th. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.โ„ In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1894.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 63% illuminated with the moon rising at 10:39 pm. The moon will set at 9:45 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Monday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Worm Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Tuesday, March 19th. Last full moon of calendar winter. The sun will rise at 6:39 am with the first light at 6:10 am, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ So early this time of year. Tonight will have 12 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain, mainly before 2pm. ๐ŸŒง We could use some rain and best of all, it’s not snow. High of 47 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 22nd. I’ll take it, especially if the rain stops relatively early. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 2017. 8.0 inches of snow fell back in 1962.โ„

Tomorrow I have to do some grocery shopping, ๐Ÿ‘and maybe wash off my truck before heading out my parents house for Sunday dinner. Then I’ll probably come home an skip my evening walk in favor of the exercise bike especially if it’s going to be as windy as predicted. The wind will probably be pretty cold and I might lose power so I should probably figure on turning up the heat before I go out tomorrow. ๐ŸŒพ Maybe it’s good after all that the landlord cut down all the trees in the yard, none to likely fall on Big Red.

Should be a busy week next week with work, ๐Ÿbut I’m fine with being really busy. It’s good to get a lot of things done, it will make me feel very accomplished. And the week will go by quickly – especially with Friday being March 1st. I’m really looking forward to the snow melting and spending more nights in the wilderness.

In four weeks on March 23 the sun will be setting at 7:11 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 28 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 43 and 30 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 47 and 28 degrees. The record high of 80 degrees was set back in 1938.

March is fine but unless I have a slow week at work and I can get out of town for the weekend,โ›บ I’m not that sure there will be any big adventures on tap. I think most likely the first time I’ll get truck cap camping out of town will be in April. I am however interested in hiking Platte Clove Road, should the snow melt before it opens to cars for the season,๐Ÿ—ป but that’s more of a day trip than anything else.

I looked and discovered a replacement for the battery for my phone would only be $5, ๐Ÿ“ฑso I think I’m going to order one. ๐Ÿ”‹The headphone jack has been long broken on the phone, it’s always running low on memory and the power jack is on its way out but I want to wait a while before I plunk down the $50 to replace my phone. These tracphones aren’t expensive to replace but I hate to spend money and throw away something that I can get more from use out of despite its flaws. Works good enough for me.

Despite my high heating bill last month, ๐Ÿ’ธ overall my budget was pretty much spot on as I didn’t do any big road trips or buy anything expensive. I am hoping to live within my means again this month, because I’m sure come April I will be traveling a lot again, and those camping trips and nights in the wilderness ain’t cheap even if they are special to me. ๐ŸŒŒ Big Red is thirsty, and all that beer and food adds up. Although who knows, I’ve really cut back on drinking in the past year.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 9 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 10 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 14 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 17 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 20 weeks and Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 26 weeks.

Good night, sleep well.
