A cool gray June day… ๐ŸŒฅ

The air certainly has the smell of rain, grass, multi flora rose and farm but not much rain has fallen at all. I probably could have headed out of town and it would have been decent with more sun this afternoon. I guess save it for a future weekend. I’m hoping for more rain during the work week, we could use it.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Clouds โ˜๏ธ 62 degrees this morning in Delmar. Definitely a change from yesterday. There is a northeast breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

Out walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning closer to eight am. Banana ๐ŸŒ oatmeal pancakes this morning. I was up at six o’clock but decided to do breakfast first. Feeling a little tired and nauseous this morning, I think it’s the weather. I do think I should have gotten out of town but I told John Wolcott I would visit him today so I’m committed to staying in town this weekend. I started a pot of brown rice and lentils on stove for the coming week week, turned it off before the walk. ๐Ÿฒ No to taking the Nature Bus ๐Ÿš this week to Thacher Park. It’s kind of silly, I could drive my big jacked up truck there any week and spend the day. I have a state parks pass for unlimited use. Mom and Dad get it for me every year.

Today will have a slight chance of showers before 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 65 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 8am. Northeast wind 13 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

I told myself that I was going to look at used bicycles this morning ๐Ÿšฒ but I don’t know. I just need to figure out how to repair the bicycle I have. I’m so enthralled by the throwaway culture we live in. The bicycle I have is fine, I just need to figure out the spokes for the wheel. I have the parts. And maybe I don’t want a bicycle after all. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Walking is fine. I can’t get to the Albany Bicycle Rescue to a week from Tuesday but it’s fine I think they are closed next week. After talking with them I can get a better idea if it’s worth me rebuilding on my own ๐Ÿ›  with some guidance or donate the old bicycle parts and get something used. I really don’t want to spend $800 on a new bicycle only to have it break down or be stolen. ๐Ÿชš

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:46 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:28 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 9:02 pm, which is 46 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (132ยฐ) at an altitude of 5ยฐ from the horizon, 232,780 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 61 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a east-northeast breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 11 seconds over yesterday.

After going to see John this afternoon I plan to hike in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve ๐Ÿฆ‹ to see how many Karner Blue butterflies I can see and maybe get some lupine pictures before it’s gone for the season. I was thinking last night looking at the lilies at the town park it might be too late for seeing many lilies on Lily Lake in the Adirondacks even if I visit on Juneteenth Weekend. ๐ŸŒบ Maybe some year. Next weekend I promised dad I would go with him to the Gas Up Antique Tractor ๐Ÿšœ Festival.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 48 degrees at 4am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 16th. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1947.

Yesterday had a work lunch at Juniors in North Greenbush. ๐Ÿš It was nice though the food was so unhealthy. I ordered a gyro bowl, the healthiest thing on the menu with brown rice, quiona, black olives and tomatoes ๐Ÿ… and when it came, it was an enormous portion, biggest bowl I’ve ever seen, and was loaded with carbs and not many vegetables. And of course being my unmindful self I eat it down. But I didn’t order beer ๐Ÿป and went very light on the shared nachos. But I tell you it’s hard to even eat somewhat healthy when out with folks. Much rather cook at home when I have control over the ingredients. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿณ

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 86 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

Patches Of Pink In The Blueberry Fields

May 29, 2020 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Did you notice it was a Friday already? I didn’t because I spent the first half of the week working from the Adirondacks. But running low on food and supplies I decided I had to go home ๐Ÿก. Hit and humid and 85 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a south breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 70 degrees. The heat index is 90. Definitely kind of a sultry afternoon, I had the fan blowing on my while I was working from home this morning. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 am.

Hot and muggy enough this morning that I decided to work from my desk in the bedroom ๐Ÿ’ป because I figured it would be super hot working down at the library. I got the windshield reflector I got ordered last week in part to make it cooler working in the truck during the pandemic but also for camping as I often store the coolers up front and lately I park in the sun intentionally for the solar charging โ˜€ of the batteries. ๐Ÿ”‹

It’s been a busy to start out work. ๐Ÿ“ Memos needed to be written emails ๐Ÿ“ง sent, phone calls fielded and triaged. Before work I also worked on some research for Save the Pine Bush. ๐ŸŒฒI am getting really good at working with tax maps, records and deeds. I can geo reference tax maps quickly and vectorize them fairly quickly.

This afternoon will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny โ˜€, with a high of 87 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 1pm. South wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1931.

This afternoon I’ll head to the laundromat and then to the grocery store. ๐Ÿ‘š I have a lot of dirty clothes from camping although now that I’m wearing shorts, not quite as much as I might otherwise have. ๐Ÿ I’m really digging in the pantry so I probably should go shopping. I also want to get to the car wash. ๐Ÿšฟ

With the choppy weather possible today I’m glad I’m not camping. โ›บ I always worry a bit about a storm washing out a road or a tree coming down and blocking my route home. โšก I’m not sure anything that severe will hit this afternoon but you never know with these springtime thunderstorms.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:43 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:25 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 8:58 pm, which is 50 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (225ยฐ) at an altitude of 53ยฐ from the horizon, 228,203 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:42 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds. โšก Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฉ, with a low of 65 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1967.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6am. West wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1987.

I might stay home tomorrow or maybe go hiking. ๐Ÿšถ I am undecided on that point. Tomorrow will certainly be the warmest day of the weekend. I’m glad I went out of town last weekend as this weekend will be a bit mixed and downright cool come Sunday.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 66. โ˜€ Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph. Maximum dew point of 42 at 6am. A much needed and refreshing change that will feel more like autumn. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

While I wish I had done it before the market ticketed up ๐Ÿ“ˆ I took my Coronavirus stimulus payment and put about two thirds in a handful of index ๐Ÿ“‡ funds and the rest in my savings account. I was hoping to do it last week but I wanted to make sure the transfer ๐Ÿ’ฐwould clear as it’s rare to have much in my checking account.

As previously noted, next Friday is 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 83 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

Moxham Valley

May 23, 2020 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Partly sunny and 76 degrees at the Mason Lake. There is a east breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 44 degrees. It’s not real humid but it’s hot with the sun. I think the long hair doesn’t help. At least it’s quite bug free in the tent I can wear shorts. I’d really like to get swimming and wash off some of the sweat. I’m not sure Mason Lake is very good for swimming ๐ŸŠ thought, it’s kind of mucky. Definitely not a sand lake.

I just got done with this 45 minute conference call ๐Ÿ“ž with one of my clients. It is really kind of a working trip. The one upside is the black flies aren’t bad inside the screen tent. ๐ŸŽช I did string a tarp over the east side of the tent to cool things downs bit. Somehow with the relatively low humidity I didn’t think it would be quite so hot and sticky. Maybe because there isn’t that much shade.

This afternoon will have a slight chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 76 degrees at 12pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 7th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 2pm. East wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1964.

Later on I’m probably going kayaking on Mason Lake. ๐ŸšฃThat should be a good place to cool down for a while. The tent is nice but I kind of wish their was more shade or the black flies would be less bad an I could spend more time outside during the daylight hours. Other than that I’m going to hang back at camp, sit and read, ๐Ÿ“– and listen ๐Ÿ‘‚ to podcasts and be glad I’m not stuck at home.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-2.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:43 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (300ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:25 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 8:58 pm, which is 59 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (297ยฐ) at an altitude of 4ยฐ from the horizon, 243,701 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:43 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 61 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 43 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 3rd. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1963.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until the First Day of Summer ๐Ÿ› when the sun will be setting at 8:42 pm in the Central Adirondacks with dusk at 9:18 pm. On that day in 2019, we had humid weather that was mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 79 and 66 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.

White Pines Along Helldiver Trail

March 10, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Happy Daylight Savings Time. ๐ŸŒ‡ I hope you you remembered to set your clocks ๐Ÿ•’ an hour later, spring ahead. Cloudy, damp and 35 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ I think we are probably done with the snow for the day. There is a south-southeast breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 4.5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

The time โŒš has changed. Definitely looking forward to the longer evenings. Now the snow just has to melt and things need to warm up so I can go down to the park after work. ๐Ÿ“”Yeah this morning was darker but really not that bad although you could make the case with the clouds โ˜ it was a fairly dark morning. I made it a priority though to get to bed earlier ๐Ÿ’คand get up early in the morning so I’m on that schedule going forward. Plus I didn’t want to sleep in all day as I have a lot to do today.

This afternoon will rain and sleet likely, becoming all rain after 1pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 41 degrees at 4pm. One degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 9th. Southeast wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1977. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1964.โ„

Talking the bus downtown ๐Ÿš to go over to John Wolcott’s house ๐Ÿก to keep going over his files. I thought ๐Ÿ’ญ driving there and then washing my truck but the turn over to rain happened too late and the roads are still covered with salt. The weekend buses are quick and I enjoy a little walk.

The sun will set at 6:56 pm with dusk around 7:24 pm, which is one hour, one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 38 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain showers, possibly mixing with snow after 10pm, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 33 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 3rd. My heating bills appreciate that fact. ๐Ÿ˜South wind 7 to 10 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1939.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 46 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 19th. Breezy, with a west wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the morning. Going to pretty mild but the breeze could make it feel cooler with the melting snow. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1977. 4.1 inches of snow fell back in 1941.โ„

Today in 1969, in Memphis, Tennessee, James Earl Ray pleads guilty to assassinating Martin Luther King, Jr. He later unsuccessfully attempts to recant.๐Ÿ˜ณ Fifty years ago today. What a jerk, such different times although I don’t think Americans are any less angry ๐Ÿ˜ก today. Progress fifty years later isn’t that great.

It was definitely nice spending time up in Clarksville then Partridge Run yesterday.๐ŸŽฟI really miss getting out of town and spending time in the country – the last big trip I took was out to Madison County right before New Years Eve.๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿฎ I will definitely be doing some more traveling and nights ๐ŸŒƒ out in the wilderness come a few more weeks. I liked seeing the cows along the Bennett Hill Trail and especially the hills and remote country around Huntersland. I’d love ๐Ÿ˜ to live out in an area like that eventually but not in New York State.

I didn’t get that much of a sun burn although I picked up a bit of a tan. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Some parts skiing ๐ŸŽฟ were more difficult than others only fell twice, I can be a bit of a klutz on the skis if I’m not careful. ๐Ÿ˜ณ Some places the snow was a bit difficult to go through, other areas were quite nice. I thought about going to the Catskills today, maybe North South Lake but I was happy to explore a part of Partridge Run I hadn’t been in a while.

This year I want to explore and see more different places. I’m really getting bored with always going to the same places all the time. โ›บ I know there are many options, I just got to think about them more. ๐Ÿ’ญ I’m starting to think maybe in the autumn to go down to Southern Ohio.

So far next Saturday looks fairly decent. ๐Ÿ˜ Saturday, scattered showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, Typical average high is 44 degrees. Finally a break from the cold and snow but that could change.

Next Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ผwhen the sun will be setting at 7:04 pm with dusk at 7:32 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 38 and 15 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

In four weeks on April 7 the sun will be setting at 7:28 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 32 minutes and 20 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had cold, partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 40 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 55 and 34 degrees. The record high of 87 degrees was set back in 2010.

Looking ahead, St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 1 week, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 4 weeks, Palm Sunday ๐ŸŒด is in 5 weeks, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 6 weeks, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 8 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 9 weeks and Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 14 weeks.

Kaaterskill Falls

Another Rainy Thursday โ˜”

Seems like this week is following the exact same pattern as last week, rain Wednesday evening, rain Thursday and Friday with showers and clouds and cool come Saturday. Kind of obnoxious in my book as I like riding into work and I would like to head out of town for the weekend at least the overnight.

Good morning! Happy Rainy Thursday. I know, again, really? Rain and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. I can’t control the weather but I can my attitude. ๐Ÿคฌ It would definitely would be a cold and wet day if I was out camping.

Started the morning with shredded oatmeal and some canned pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ with a bunch of fried yellow onions๐Ÿง… with cornmeal, broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ and eggs ๐Ÿฅšand some garlic. A few cups of coffee โ˜• and I’m up and off early to walk laps on the Concourse. ๐Ÿšถ If it’s going to rain โ˜” best to get my steps in early.

Today will have showers before noon, then showers likely with a chance of drizzle, mainly between noon and 1pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 46 degrees at 8am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 19th. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1976. 2.7 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-12.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:03 pm with the sun in the west (280ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (286ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:41 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 8:10 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (141ยฐ) at an altitude of 55ยฐ from the horizon, 251,515 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:47 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over today.

Last night I took the bus ๐Ÿš home, made up Johnny cakes ๐Ÿฅž and oatmeal with pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ and then went upstairs to do some reading ๐Ÿ“–. Ended up stumbling upon a very well narrated video series on statistics and spatial analysis using R by Great Courses on Kanopy from my local library for free ๐Ÿ†“. While I’m fairly experienced in R there is always more to learn. Spatial correlation is something I’m quite interested in but I find it’s a bit of a complicated theory to understand.

Tonight will have a chance of drizzle with a slight chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง๏ธ , with a low of 41 degrees at 3am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1875.

Blustery and cool this weekend but not so wet. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธSaturday, a slight chance of showers before 8am, then scattered showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 60. West wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

I am thinking about camping ๐Ÿ• locally this weekend if Saturday is half decent so I don’t have to listen to them working on construction ๐Ÿšง at the unit next door, even though the new landlord has been good about not running the jack hammer or loud equipment in the weekend and evenings. Still it’s annoying as often they have a lot of equipment on the driveway and I have to ask for them to move it to get our so it might be nice to do a quick overnight. I’m thinking the first or second week of May to do trip out to Schoharie ๐Ÿšฒ and ride the Catskill Scenic Trail once things green up, especially the greener farm section down in Delaware County assuming that it’s not so wet the trail is completely bogged down.

Winding Road

Made it to Saturday – what a week ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I tried to sleep well last night, but now I’m fried. I’m trying to get up and moving — but it’s tough. My head is just spinning from the week that was. Nothing serious, but it’s just so much to learn at my new job, more stupid little bull-sheet that’s just left me fried after the week that was.

Good morning! Partly sunny and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐Ÿ˜Ž There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around noontime. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Definitely enjoying not having the heat on this morning. โน I opened up the kitchen window and the one in my bedroom that don’t require removing the storm windows. The fresh air was so refreshing. Tonight though will be cool enough, I’ll probably need to close the windows before bed, but I’m enjoying the fresh air as I can.

Breakfast this morning was a big pan of eggs ๐Ÿณ with lots of onions, broccoli, corn, and peas. Probably too much tumeric but that’s a given. I’ve been avoiding going to the store to get milk, โ˜• and cutting back on my coffee consumption, so only one pot — I mean cup of coffee this morning as that is all that my milk supply would allow. This afternoon I’ll have to get more milk at Stewart’s. ๐Ÿฎ

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 2pm. 28 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. South wind 6 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. If it gets that warm, it will blow through many previous records. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 51 degrees. Almost record breaking warmth. The record high of 53 was set in 1955. That said, during the second half of February we’ve had a few 70 degree records in the past. 4.0 inches of snow fell back in 1892. ๐ŸŒจ Not much of a record for winter.

Today is going to be a nice day and I want to maximize it. ๐Ÿ›  I’ve continued to tweak the derailer on my bike ๐Ÿšฒ, a constant source of frustration but I have it working pretty smooth now. โš™ I’m learning a lot about bike mechanics. I do need to get it to the mechanic for a good tune up before the spring rush. ๐Ÿ“ž I should call about an appointment so it get serviced before the spring rush. Knowing how mechanics are these days, probably won’t get an appointment to late March.

I have a list ๐Ÿ“ƒ of things to do today but heading out for a bike ride to Voorheesville ๐Ÿšฒ in the nice weather followed by maybe visiting Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for a walk is high on that list. The best weather is going to be earlier so I should get an early start. ๐ŸŒฅ More clouds and ultimately rain later.

High on my list for today is finishing up the draft of the map ๐Ÿ—บ I’m making for Save the Pine Bush as they’re looking for it but I’ve been busy and just so tired ๐Ÿ˜ด lately that I’ve not spent much time working on it. But it would be good to have a, draft presented of the map as they’ve been looking for it. Every revision it gets a little better. ๐Ÿ”

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 32.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-37.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:40 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (244ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:20 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 5:49 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (247ยฐ) at an altitude of 5ยฐ from the horizon, 226,440 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:23 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph with gusts up to 20mph. Today will have 10 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over yesterday.

I got to go to the post office ๐Ÿ“ฌ to give them $3.52 to bail out the USB cable โŒจ๏ธ I bought that didn’t come with the USB keyboard switch I bought last week. Yes, a different seller scammed me again on EBay ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ this time sending me the cable that I was supposed to come with USB keyboard switch I bought. This time they couldn’t be bothered to put sufficient payment on the package so my choice was to refuse the package ๐Ÿ“ฆ and probably never get the cable or hand over the money to the post office. I’m only $17 in the hole for what should have been a $8.65 refurbished switch had Ebay not screwed me over twice. ๐Ÿ˜ก I was angry as duck ๐Ÿฆ† last night ๐ŸŒƒ but for $3.52 more I’ll have closure once I get to the post office later. I can be angry but it’s stupid, not that much money. I’m constantly broke these days with inflation but whatever, I’m also making good money.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 10th. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming northwest in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2023, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1962.

Too bad it’s going to rain this evening ๐ŸŒƒ, I’d love to sit out back with the mild weather. It’s fine I promised mom and dad to bake bread ๐Ÿž this evening for Sunday dinner. Then I want to get to bed ๐Ÿ› early so I can be up and rising early to go grocery shopping ๐Ÿ›’ tomorrow. I tell myself my pantry is well enough stocked that I won’t have another big grocery bill but with inflation I know thats a lie. ๐Ÿ It’s so hard to get ahead today even with what most people would consider to be a good job.

Looking ahead, next Saturday is 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun with dusk at 5:57 pm. I’m excited about that as it means I can ride my bike home after work, once the snow is off the bike path. No bus fare for you, Mr. Bus Serivice. On that day in 2023, we had mostly cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 55 and 23 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 60 back in 1981.

Final Day of 2023

Made it to the end of year. Kind of a cloudy, gray, cool day to end out the year — certainly not the best day to be out doing outdoor activities, especially with the breeze and gray skies. Maybe it’s best that my planed camping trip didn’t work out after all.

I was originally planning to be out camping today, but when I got up to camp ๐Ÿ• the campsite was taken and everything up at Rensselaerville State Forest was a complete mosh pit, after all the rain we’ve had and above normal temperatures. I poked around the state forest for a while, thought about pitching a tent, but I would be setting up in the mud, and the other campsite — Campsite 3 was a mess because they’ve been logging off CCC Road. I think that red clay is as slick and muddy as I can remember due to it being such a mild, ice free winter. Maybe that black powder guy parked in the campsite did me a favor. I don’t think he was camping, though it seemed like he swapped off that site with another person, which makes me think maybe he had his stand up there and wanted to reserve the site. I’m not that heart broken ๐Ÿ’” about not camping this weekend. I might be back for Martin Luther King Day Weekend, โ„๏ธ which believe it or not is only two weekend away this point. I’m hoping it will be cold enough at that point that I won’t be dealing with all that mud and slop. Some snow would be nice, and most of the big hunting seasons are done ๐Ÿ”ซ though trapping is open and as small game.

Back to the table format on the weather, as my blog’s weather template always seems to break for the last day of the year. ๐ŸŒ† There is a one-day-a-year bug which I should fix but it happens only once in 365 days. I didn’t blog yesterday, at least with a status update as I got a bit of a late start, and was planning to do it up by camp which didn’t happen. Instead, I came home, unpacked my gear ๐ŸŽ’ which didn’t take long as nothing was disorganized or dirty, made some lunch and spent the balance of the day reading and studying my machine learning course. ๐Ÿค– This morning I finished up the Udemy Neural Nwtworks for R course and started one on Support Vector Classification for R. ๐Ÿ’ญ I’ve been thinking I should also do some machine learning courses on Python so I get a full knowledge and various platforms. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ป I’m not opposed to Python though I tend to use R more then Python.

Today for exercise ๐Ÿšฒ I think I’m going to ride out to Voorheesville ๐Ÿš‚ and maybe stop at Hannaford out there to get some baker’s vanilla which I like in my coffee and warm milk at the end of day, plus also some more apple cider vinger which I like in my glass of warm milk at the end of day.. That said, I’m still cringing after spending $200 at the grocery store on Friday, though fortunately I got paid early — I couldn’t believe I got my first 2024 pay check on Friday, when the official pay day is next Wednesday, January 3rd. Paychecks have been coming earlier and earlier, often on Monday mornings, and I know New Years Day or Monday is a holiday, but I just assumed the money would come in on Tuesday. ๐Ÿ’ต It’s good though as I paid rent on Friday, ๐Ÿ˜ and I’ve been concerned about having the minimum in bank account.

I guess this sort of makes December, rather then January a three paycheck month, but as long as I keep things coming in and out consistently, I’m good. I just ended up buying a lot groceries, in part for camping but also there was a lot of things I wanted to keep my pantry stocked. That said, it should cut back on what I need in future weeks, as most of the more expensive things I stocked up are the kind of things that should last for a while. I don’t waste food, if things start to go bad, I cut off the bad parts and eat that first. ๐ŸŽ But I generally prefer frozen and vegatables, and aren’t afraid to use my freezer.

My parents have continued to be sick on and off ๐Ÿ˜ฃ so I’ve not been able to visit them in the few weeks ๐Ÿ‘ช and I’m not totally sure if we are going to do a get together for New Years Day, ๐ŸŽ† though we’ve been talking about doing a holiday celebration ๐ŸŽ„ getting together next week for Mom’s birthday with my sister, niece and in-laws, assuming everybody is feeling better by then and the weather is good.

As you will note below, going to be a mild week to start out January, and we are definitely starting to pick up more daylight at end of each day.
