Those bananas and oatmeal pancakes are good on this Saturday morning 🥞

To think all these years I used to eat pancakes made out of white flour, sugar and whatever other chemicals that are in grocery store pancake mix compared to just whole grain oatmeal, a banana and some water run through a food processor and fried with a pan with just a little bit of non stick spray. I just have gotten to hate all prepared mixes and recipes you find on the internet and cook books with 20,000 ingredients and steps which all involve cooking using PFOAs topped pans with lard and substitutes, sugar and substitutes, along with a ton of added salt. But maybe my tastes have changed as I’ve lost weight or you care far more about nutrition then taste. I don’t do portion control but I also don’t eat crap anymore that doesn’t fill my stomach with good nutritious food.

At any rate, Good morning! Happy Saturday. Can you believe it’s already the weekend? 😃Mostly cloudy and 71 degrees at the Elm Ave Town Park . ⛅ Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. Going to hot and humid 😰 out later so I figure walk 🚶 now before it gets too ungodly hot out later.

Woke up around 5:15 as a fire truck 🚒🧑‍🚒came roaring through the neighborhood and I fell asleep pretty early last night, as I cut my evening walk short ⛈ as I was sure it would thunderstorm and pour before I could get home. I also started early after a quick cold dinner of kidney beans with sugar free maple 🍁 syrup. 10 miles on the dot yesterday, I managed to squeeze it out by a quick walk in the Elm Ave Park followed by some laps at Swift Wetland Preserve near where I live then a few laps back inside. Also did 40 flights of stairs up and down at work – two times up and down (morning, lunch, home) to the 18th floor plus four flights in the LOB. Been two weeks of only using the stairs at work. 🧗‍♂️

I was up early but didn’t start walking 🚶 until 6:45 this morning. Had said pancakes 🥞 first topped with the remaining farmers market blueberries. They were good 🫐 but paying $7 for a pint of fresh blueberries even in these inflationary times seems like highway robbery when you can just as healthy frozen 3 lb for a few more bucks. It’s good to treat yourself once and a while. Plus I didn’t want to go to the store until today. 💸 Truth be told what I really want is fresh tomatoes 🍅 and sweet corn 🌽 from the farmers market.

Today will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 10am. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

I would like to get in about four 4⃣ miles of walking 🚶 this morning before heading home 🪰 but the deer fly may change my mind first. Doing the nature trail loop at Elm Ave Park that I do most evenings. Then head home. I want to pull out of the freezer the remaining chicken 🐔 breast I have to thaw in the fridge for cooking in the oven, probably tomorrow morning early and then refreezing cooked portions for future years. I no longer get the precooked strips because they’re loaded with fat and salt to say nothing of preservatives and so much more expensive than what I can prepare myself and freeze. And also cook up the black beans I have as they’re so good cold with red onions, especially in the heat. Also want to try to make hummus out of the chickpeas I soaked earlier in the week and then roast the rest to mix with blueberries, raspberries,, strawberries and walnuts. 🍓🥜🫐

Then I want to go to the library 📚 and briefly study the spec sheets a bit more on the bicycles I’m researching 🔍 before heading over to Steiners Sports in Glenmont to hopefully check out the Trek Marlin 5 or 6 and the Trek Verve 2, and maybe the Dual Sport 2 though I’m leaning towards a mountain bike and the Trek brand due to the local popularity and parts and service availability. Then I’ll head over to Market 32 and Walmart for groceries. 🛒 My current lack of frozen fruit and plain Greek yogurt is kind of a bummer especially knowing how hot it’s expected to be by evening.

If Steiner is a bust for getting a bicycle 🚲, I’ll head to Downtube in the afternoon to look there. Or if I like what Steiner has but they only have my size in Hudson it will be a road trip. They’re Hudson location is also open on Sunday so I could do that tomorrow too. Who knows how this will go. 🤷‍♂️

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.9° from the due south horizon (-0.9° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (302°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy 🌫️, with a low of 66 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 7pm. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1963.

I was so sure I had that dentist appointment next week 🦷but I am wrong it would appear as I haven’t got an appointment reminder. I called and texted the dentist on Friday but it was after they had closed for the day. I do hope to get out of town next weekend, maybe tacking on Friday and or Monday. ⛺ Maybe just Schoharie especially if I have the bicycle for the Catskill Scenic Trail. And practice my swimming 🏊 strokes before vacation, which with my weight loss I should be a much stronger swimmer. If next weekend looks bad there is always the free Nature Bus to Thacher Park. 🚍 I haven’t done the Nature Bus yet this year. 🆓

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Cow Appreciation Day 🐂 when the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:05 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 57 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. Burgers and steak 🍔 are a good treat on occasion and I do like skim milk in coffee ☕ at times, and plain Greek yogurt remains wonderful 🍨 but I admit I’ve cut back a lot due to calories and especially the omega 6 saturated fat in cattle. But they’re such wonderful animals for protecting grass lands while putting the land to use in a sustainable fashion. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1997.

Fifty days remain in 2023 🗓

Day by day. The fact that Thanksgiving Day Week is basically the week after next week shows how fast the year is coming to a close. While maybe it would have been nice to get out of town this weekend, I’m thinking today I’ll ride to Peebles Island and have some fun closer to home while trying to hold the line on expenses, though I’ll probably end up taking the 18 bus back home and will probably need to get to the grocery store and or Walmart this evening as I’m eating myself out of house and home again.

Good morning! Partly clear 🌅 and 41 degrees in Delmar, NY on this Veteran’s Day. 🏵 There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. ☃️ Not so cold for a mid-November morning, though it won’t warm up that much and it will be breezy.

Up a bit before six o’clock ⏰ though I was awake before then. Decided to do oatmeal-banana pancakes with chia seeds today, 🥞 topped with shredded apples 🍎 mixed with boiled apple cider, cinnamon, ginger and heated in the microwave. It was good. I have to admit I also had a bit more of that soup I made up last night — chicken soup I guess — 🍲 though it was more of a stew with rich earthy overtones with lots of cumin and ground chili spice. Also finally getting around to cooking some chickpeas, 👩‍🍳 might make hummus or just have them with various meals. Mom was suggesting putting them in soups. I also like them with fresh fruit, kind of like a trail mix without as much as fat as nuts, though they can certainly be good mixed in a handful of almonds, blueberries, and raspberries. 🥜

Today is Veterans Day, which will will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 23rd. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. It became somewhat humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2002. 3.0 inches of snow fell back in 1906.❄

I am thinking about riding out to Peebles Island State Park in Cohoes. 🚲 It’s about 17 miles or an hour and a half ride each way. I am thinking I would likely ride up to the park, bring a lunch, walk around Peebles Island and maybe a little bit in Cohoes along the Canal. 📷 Going to be a nice sunny day with blue skies for pictures. Then ride back to Albany via the Empire Trail, and catch the 18 bus back home. 🚌 as I expect by then I’ll probably be running low on daylight and pretty tired as it’s a big trip. 🌆 Days are so short come mid-November. I am thinking my next out of town adventure will be in a little under two weeks — the day after Thanksgiving through the following Monday, probably Route 8 on East Branch. Some quiet time off the internet.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:40 am with sun having an altitude of 30° from the due south horizon (-40.8° vs. 6/21). Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over today.

Money is just kind of tight 💳 after vacation and renewing my blog contract and all the trips I’ve been taking. ⛽ I ended up transferring in $750 from savings to ensure I had enough money to pay my credit card bill and maintain adequate balance in my bank account through the money. It’s not a pay week but come Wednesday, $1,300 goes out to the credit card. Already earned $135 from blog advertising, though I won’t get paid until mid-December under the Google Ad Sense rules that require a $100 minimum unpaid balance at end of the month to get paid, and then they hold your check for three weeks to verify it and collect interest on it. 🏨 I know, it’s kind of obnoxious but I’ll probably earn at least another $30 or $40 bucks before the month is done to tack on the $135. Web advertising is a bit of a mystery, based on bidding — one day I earned like $11 in ad revenue which is crazy compared to a buck or two most days and when you multiply it out over the months, especially for a small little blog like this. It’s good I’m staying home this weekend.

Truth is I have a lot of money coming in, 🔀 but the thing is as soon as it comes in a lot goes out. I am continuing to invest heavily into my retirement accounts 👴 as now is the time to do it while I’m relatively young and making good money, 💵 and also into my investment accounts so they can continue to grow and own my own land eventually. While interest rates are up on my savings account — close to 5%, with inflation I figure it’s better to be going into the stock and bond market, especially over the long term. There will be a recession 📉 but eventually we’ll come out of it and things will grow. I am hopeful I can pay back my savings account in the next few months, especially as some of those short term expenses like vacation come and go, though soon I’ll have heating bills, though so far I’ve avoided using the heat, though yesterday ♨️ I finally put the screens in my window and patched the air leaks around the door, 🪟 as I know I’ll need the heat before long. I have the heated blanket ready to go but I haven’t put that on the bed yet, though I will be ready when those days come.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 3rd. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1976.

Yesterday, I rode out to Voorheesville 🚲 and spent a lot of time reading and watching video and reading material for yet another Udemy class that I get free from the library. 📱 Last week I finished a class called the Fundamentals of Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analysis, now I am a few hours into a class on Remote Sensing and QGIS. Basically it’s all about using data collected from satellites 📡 to learn about what is happening on the earth’s surface. 📚 I was going to go down to the library last night but I was tired and comfortable in my bed, after enjoying that soup that I made earlier int he day. 🛌 I figure this is the time of year to learn more, and Remote Sensing is only going to improve my GIS skills, especially combined with the use of raster math both in QGIS and R programming language.

As previously noted, next Saturday is Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone 🦌 when the sun will be setting at 4:32 pm with dusk at 5:01 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy skies, snow showers and temperatures between 43 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 48 degrees. Opened this morning in Vermont. We hit a record high of 71 back in 1928.

Finished off the last of Annuto’s Cider Doughnuts this morning 🍩

Time goes by so quickly, already Thursday. I’ve been enjoying those half dozen cider doughnuts in moderation each day, as a treat each day. Not as good as when they were fresh but still pretty good.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly clear and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌅 Calm wind. The dew point is 46 degrees.

Not a bad sunrise 🌅 but late around 7:40 this morning. Watched a bit of it from one of the sods down the road. This morning cooking 🍳 up some eggs. Then it’s off to Thomas WV to ride some of the Blackwater Rail Trail and Forest Roads 🚲 and the Olson Fire Tower 🗼. Should be a great day!

Today will be partly cloudy with more clouds later 🌞👉 🌥 , with a high of 69 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 28th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 5pm. South wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1997.❄

Still having a lot of trouble updating the blog 📸 in part due to the spotty cell service here. 📱 I’m really kind of on the edge of the National Radio Quiet Zone 📻, most of the signal 📶 I’m getting is probably from Oakland Maryland bouncing through the mountains. ⛰ If I have time, 🕒 I guess I could stop by the library in Thomas to hop on the Wi-Fi there.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 35° from the due south horizon (-35.8° vs. 6/21). Back in 1970, Muhammad Ali faces off against Jerry Quarry in Atlanta, Georgia for the first time after Ali’s three-year hiatus from evading to be drafted in the Vietnam War. 🥊

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. 😕 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 67. Southwest wind 7 to 13 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 61 at 11am. Sunday, rain showers. High near 55. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

I am thinking 💭 tomorrow – Friday of visiting the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge 🐦 and hiking back to Dolly Sods from the refuge. This cuts a lot off the drive plus I’ve not seen that part of Dolly Sods, and probably not the as crowded as the Bears Rock 🐻 area. Then Saturday probably cross the Eastern Continental Divide down by Seneca Rocks and hike somewhere around there then north to Cumberland then probably Asaph Run Campground in Wellsboro and riding a few hours 🚲 on the Pine Creek Rail Trail before heading back home with a plan to arrive home by seven 7⃣ on Sunday. Already have clothes put out for work on Monday 🏢 but I want time to knead fresh bread and unpack some of my gear and shower up before bed. 🚿

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Thanksgiving 🦃 when the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). Autumn leaf discoloration – MSU Extension

Autumn leaf discoloration – MSU Extension

As the summer gradually moves into the fall season, the leaves of many tree species will prematurely turn brown. A variety of leaf fungi are especially common when associated with cooler and moister conditions. Different fungi are associated with different tree species. Few of these leaf fungi present a health threat to individual trees or forests.

Trees began physiologically preparing for the winter season in early August. They’ve been vigorously photosynthesizing for months. Leaf and flower buds are set for 2018. Flowers and fruits are mostly done for the year. Carbohydrate reserves have been translocated to root systems and other storage areas. The shorter daylight hours will drive the color change. The early leaf-changers have already begun their color season.

It’s common to see browning leaves that present little or no health threat to trees. A number of Anthracnose species will cause the leaves of oaks, maples and other tree species to turn brown. Areas of leaves will turn brown, usually in the lower part of the crown where the air is more humid. This can be particularly common with golf courses and manicured landscapes that utilize watering systems.

Twenty two years ago on this September 11th 🇺🇸

Hard to believe it was 22 years ago that I was a freshman in college at Hudson Valley Community College on that day with the bright blue skies, listening to Amy Goodman and seeing those terrorist attacks on television at my college statistics class before college adjourned for the day and I spent it just walking along High Point Road in Berne, looking up and noticing the skies without airplanes above.

Good morning! Rain showers and 69 degrees in Delmar. ☔ Calm wind. The dew point is 65 degrees. The skies will clear Wednesday around 11 pm.

Catching the earlier express bus 🚍 downtown so I walk 🚶 in the Plaza before work as it’s really not a particularly nice day. Kind of a dreary autumn day, though at least not so hot. Certainly not the crisp, clear day of 22 years ago. I don’t want to go back to those days with all trials and tribulations ahead of me as I started in college, 🎓 it’s kind of nice to be in the midlife even if things aren’t perfect every day. That was quite a time, when so much possibility ahead existed, when I was learning so much and changing so quickly. I was bad yesterday, didn’t get my steps in, 👣 but this morning I plan to do the stairs maybe twice at work, and walk the Plaza in an attempt to get in 10,000 steps for the day.

Twenty two years is a long time ⏳ even if in the grand scheme of things it’s not. 14 ½ years from now my mom was pointing out I will be 55 years old and if I’m still working for the state at that point I’ll have in close to 30 years and can collect my Tier 4 pension if I decide to do alternative things. 💵 Maybe move out west, have that off-grid homestead property I want. By then I’m hoping to have $1.5 million in assets put away though some I won’t be able to tap until 59 1/2 (IRA) but it’s still young enough that if I stay healthy and continue to improve my physical shape there is a lot of possibilities at that age. September 11th in 2001 seems like just yesterday but it was a long time ago now. 🏙

Today will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 71 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 67 at 1pm. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1931.

Listening to Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning while doing my morning walk 🚶 around the Plaza. I’m actually surprised there is less of a police 👮 presence as there was in years past on the anniversary. I guess September 11th has been forgotten but then again it was more than a generation ago now – and I’m sure the threat analysis by terrorism center kept the color code green or blue. I remember that day so well, listening to the attacks live with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now, followed by that somewhat old lady troublemaker sounding Rezsin Adams who read 📖 from the Nation Magazine like she did every morning after Democracy Now on WRPI. It’s been decades now since she was kicked off the radio, 📻 and going on three years since her passing. It’s good I got to know her when I was at her house folding the Save the Pine Bush newsletter.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 52° from the due south horizon (-18.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:38 pm with the sun in the west (271°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (277°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:15 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:41 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:17 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 70 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday, after a few hours of cussing including on Facebook 🤬 and playing around with controls on my bike and some internet research, I got the bicycle shifting smoothly again. ⚙ 🚲 I think what happened is a snagged the front derailleur cable on some bushes when I was riding at the back country at Thacher Park, plus over the past 750 miles or so of riding, cables have stretched. I think it’s good enough for now, though come the end of the year, I’ll take Blackie to the shop for a full tune up — the gears professionally adjusted for smooth shifting along with the wheels trued again. 🚵‍♀️ If I have continued problems with noisy operation or rough shifting, I will just take it back to Steiner Sports to get tuned up and maybe that cable replaced in the front. Sucks I have to put more money into the bike already, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not going to cost that much, even in these inflationary times. The gear adjusting is actually pretty simple to do, I can’t imagine they would charge a small fortune for 5 minutes on the bike stand to index the gears.

I also glued back together the lid on my mini food processor/chopped 👨‍🍳 and it’s working fine after shattering yesterday, but I got looking at getting a full-sized food processor with a dough blade and a big enough motor to knead dough. I would then “retire” my mini-food to my camping supplies, as it works well enough now glued together but I really want something for more power for at home, especially if want to use it to help automate the bread and dough making processor, make chickpea and red lentil flower, larger batches of hummus, etc. 🍞 🍌 I don’t mind kneading dough, but it sure would be convenient to dump the ingredients in, have things kneaded for me without a full bread machine. Looking at $60 model at Wally World, which is not a super high-end but should do that trick with enough power, assuming my dough aren’t so sticky and far more powerful then the 70 watt mini processor.  Truth be told I don’t need the mini-food processor for camping, but I sure like the sauces it makes, and how it mills the oatmeal perfectly for oatmeal-banana pancakes, and perfectly scrambled eggs. And it really has minimal current draw on the inverter.

I am a little worried about money, 🤑 but this week is a pay week and my credit card bill gets retired on Friday automatically, so that will help restore my credit limit. It’s funny but when you do the Autopay, it does it the date the bill is due, so it really covers the cost of summer vacation now. Plus I’ve had more costs with inflation, high food and gas prices ⛽ and a lot more summer travel over the past few months — to say nothing of getting more spices and kitchen supplies for doing more cooking. 🥘 But it’s good as eating healthier is an investment in my future. And it most of my concerns are short-term, if I have to move money around for a few days from a rainy day fund, it’s not the end of the world.

Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly before 7pm. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ☁️, with a low of 61 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 19th. Maximum dew point of 66 at 6pm. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1875.

I think I might have a bladder infection 🚽 as I am going to the doctor’s this afternoon to get checked out. For a while I was chocking going to the bathroom at night and having to stop so much when traveling to just eating a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables with farm stand season underway, especially all those aciditic tomatoes and peaches, 🍑 🍅 but I was talking to my parents this weekend, and I think it’s best to get it checked out, especially before it could spread to my kidneys. Turns out it’s a simple test, and then antibotics if necessary. And then relief from pissing all of the time. It’s kind of bad that I can’t go anywhere these days without needing a pee break every hour or so, especially in the morning. Maybe I need to cut back on the coffee but I think I might also have an issue — and I’ve noticed some soreness since Friday.

Cool almost autumn like weekend ahead. 🍂 Maybe the North Country will have it’s first hints of autumn this weekend. I thought about heading north, but I think I’d rather wait for more color. It will be refreshing after all the heat and humidity of late. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 53 at 12pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 58 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees. 😀

This weekend I would like to head out of town. ⛺ Maybe Rennselearville State Forest or hammock camping at Cole Hill State Forest is an inexpensive option, I know mom wants me to go apple 🍏 picking with dad come Sunday. Not totally sure, the sunsets are so much earlier this time of year. If I want to head north, it’s best to take off Friday and just leave early that day to get north. That said, I think I’d rather wait until there is more color for a trip up north. 🍂 I wouldn’t mind a couple of quiet nights in the woods, even though the nights are much longer now, and some trail riding.

Looking ahead but not forward, next Monday is 7 PM Sunset 🌆 with dusk at 7:28 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 80 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 74 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1891.

New York, let’s go chase that ducking money as the Indians swelter in the summer 🗽💵

Technically it’s not Indian summer until we have a cool period though I guess you could call all of August really cool and Labor Day came and went, with all that is left is the work, the traffic and the bills in these inflationary times.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly clear 🌅 and 68 degrees in Delmar, NY. Sort of foggy, air has that taste of barnyard and grain on it. Soon to be silage time. There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends next Monday around 3 pm. 😓

Big pots of rice-lentils along with a pot of red kidney beans 🍲 is simmering down on the stove, already had my first cup of coffee ☕ and out for the morning walk 🚶. On my way home from the Adirondacks I stopped and stocked up my pantry 🛒 as there was a lot of missing things and I always like to have my pantry full of complete meals 🍴 that provide all the nutriental essentials. 🍏

Going to ride to work today 🚵 but I expect to take the express bus 🚍 back home as it’s going to be a hot one. 😰 The ride downtown is a lot easier then the ride back, bar of course the Madison Avenue Hill. I won’t mind moving to the Erie Boulevard office 🏢 when it comes to the hill eventually. No idea when.

It was a nice Labor Day Weekend 🇺🇸 even if all that’s left now is memories and labor. Backgrounds and cap grants need reviewing, emails replied to. Work picnic on Thursday, I’m going to see if I can work from home that morning so I can get sweet corn 🌽 to bring to the picnic and maybe cook up some beans with the maple syrup 🍁 and smoked salt.

Yesterday I rode the larger Spectulator Tree Farm bicycle 🚲 loop ➿ around Elm Lake and across the Long Level, down Fly Creek Road to Old 8B. Added a slight addition of Austin Falls and Robbs Creek to the loop. Nice ride, took it slow on some of the hills but that’s rust low gear ⚙ is for. Then went for a brief swim 🏊‍♂️ at the Spectulator Beach 🏖 and then a paddle 🛶 down the Sacandaga River until around 6 pm before changing out of my bathing suit, tying up the kayak and making the long slog home 🏡.

Soon summer will be a memory

Happy Labor Day 🧑‍🏭

It’s a nice morning after that thunderstorm came through earlier this morning. Woke me up, needed to run to the bucket shitter, started the coffee got a few more minutes of shut eye then it was breakfast started by frying onions up, then spinach, tomatoes and garlic in the food processor then eggs. Wanted to make an omelet but things were runnier then expected so it became scrambled eggs. It’s been a nice weekend but like always too short.

Good morning on this Labor Day! Partly sunny 🌞 and 61 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees.

Already starting to take down an organize camp ⛺ but I’m waiting for more sun to take down the screen tent 🎪 and other gear like the flags. Also want to cook up a good lunch, I guess I could do that in advance and bring it along on the trail but first some hammock time.

Labor Day will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 83 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 13th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 11am. The record high of 97 was set in 1929.

Today I am heading down to Spectulator 🛶, I’m not sure if I will kayak the Sacandaga River and swim in the beach 🏖 first or do a bike ride 🚵 up through the Long Level past Elm Lake in the Spectulator Tree Farm. Ultimately I want to end the day at the Spectulator Creamery which hopefully won’t be as packed as on Saturday and it much warmer. Then sometime before six o’clock when I head home I’m thinking of parking 🅿 at the lower Old Route 8B bridge 🌉 and riding up along the old road on Blackie, visiting Austin Falls and points along there. Alternatively I could go to Tribes Hill and ride some of the Canalway Trail though I don’t think it’s a good day to do that with the heat which will be worse in the valley. 😰 Maybe come the autumn.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 53.7° from the due south horizon (-16.2° vs. 6/21). After floating for a few hours on a rubber truck tube ⭕ at the swimming hole on Perkins Clearing Road at Jessup River, 🏊‍♂️ rode about 20 miles round trip from the swimming hole to the Spruce Lake Parking Area at the wilderness border. 🚵 It’s a nice ride but a surprising climb to the Spruce Lake parking area. 😰Good scenery, would have visited Spruce Lake if it wasn’t six o’clock and didn’t want to ride back in the dark.🌄 Ironically I made good time back on the return trip, I flew down the down hill and was back only a few minutes after seven.

Wish I had gotten an earlier start spent too much time chewing over my day plans then I fell asleep in the hammock 😴 and made a good lunch of onions, garlic, zucchini, tomatoes and chicken. Dinner was red lentil pancakes topped with cottage cheese with avocado and dessert was watermelon. 🍳 🥑 🥞

Much cooler next weekend, rain showers but some sun. 🌦️ Really almost autumn like. Saturday, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Might be a good weekend to go to Thacher Park 🏞 on the Nature Bus 🚍 bright and early, pack a lunch with my mountain bike 🚵 and ride all day, visit Thompsons Lake and even poke around many of the roads up that way. Sunday who knows, could just be a quiet day then go out and see the folks as it’s been two weeks now.

Looking ahead, next Monday is September 11th 🇺🇸 when the sun will be setting at 7:17 pm with dusk at 7:44 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 64 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1931. Can you believe the terrorist attacks were 22 years ago? I was a freshman back in college then. 🎓 That said, I don’t ever want to go back to those days, much less go back to a formal classroom again.
