๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŒฒ Off-Grid Living ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿค

I am seriously thinking about building an off-grid house. I have a first draft. I need to learn CAD! I have a road map towards buying land and building. I concede might have to live with long commute and give up traveling and camping. I need to be strong.

Why off grid? Well, I’m not into contemporary society. I want to own land, but not be called a landowner, and a cabin, not hooked to electrical grid, farm, raise pigs for food and burn my own trash. I’m saving for a better tomorrow, hoping to make the leap to another freer state. Having acreage is important. Cornfields aren’t bad neighbors. Maybe though my vision has grown smaller and more local. More on off-grid living.

I am 16 years into my career and have made some significant progress in my life. I love my job. But I do wonder on all the things I’m missing out but saving sure makes me high. Maybe it will be different when I own my own land — the end of goal of all this saving.

2020 into 2021 during the pandemic was a year of remote work. It was a struggle not having internet at home, worked a lot out of my truck. But I worked remotely from Horseshoe Lake which was super cool.

Generally I like the idea of owning land in a red state, particularly Idaho, Iowa, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Wisconsin — and Midwest more generally. But I may settle for New York – it’s all about the f-ing money!

I often think politics is for losers. I’m into the politics of statistical analysis and reading history books.

I believe strongly in the first amendment, second amendment, oppose gun restrictions and I support de-funding the police in favor of lower-cost technology and civilian employees. Maybe use red flag laws for voting to stop dangerous voters? And the media should stop promoting mass-shootings, even if it’s super profitable for all involved. They should tax the media when it promotes violence. I think some people are much too paranoid in politics. How elections are rigged under law to benefit incumbents. But vote, it’s the best option and inexpensive.

Yeah for the third parties! I voted for Larry Sharpe for Governor and Jo Jergenson for President but my views are complicated and often vote for Democrats, after voting Jill Stein Green Party in 2016.

Generally, I think Biden has been a good change over DJT and glad the Trump era is over and are glad prosecutors and grand jurors are holding him responsible by indicting him for many serious felonies. I don’t think Trump can win in 2024, as nothing has changed politically from 2020.

I think rural people should be left alone and not worship government workers or have parades for them. I am no fan of Donald Trump, his speeches are bad, I don’t like Trump’s embrace of radical environmentalists, but do admire the homemade roadside monuments to DJT.

I don’t toke. But whatever. There are too many transit authorities.

๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณThe Earth ๐ŸŒŽ ๐Ÿธ

Why I oppose wilderness areas and parks. It’s trendy to be green these days, but is eco-marketing good for the planet? I visited the Mount Storm Coal Plant and Corridor H.

I worry about a lot about overly-aggressive Climate Change Action, and Undermining Environment Laws for Climate Action. I think we should all admit we are Addicted to Fossil Fuels. These days, urban recycling has become a joke, when it’s still an option at all. It’s better to just buy less shit and avoid the alure of Costcos. I really don’t like how aging radicals have become industrial solar salespeople.

Big bucks are coming to state-designated disadvantaged communities under the CLCP. Which counties and political districts are in line for the the most pork? Interactive map.

๐Ÿ’ณ ๐Ÿ’ธSaving Money ๐Ÿ’ฐ ๐Ÿ’ท

I am not a fan of ESG Investing as it’s not well diversified. I prefer index-funds and other tax-advantaged ways of saving. Why I am concerned about saving enough for retirement, even though I’m in my late 30s. We as a nation should save more, consume less. I like the idea of carbon tax to replace capital gains taxes to discourage consumption.

๐Ÿฅฆ ๐ŸŽMission Fifty & Being Healthier ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿง

I am now officially in my 40s! I am building to a better life in my 50s, which means getting up early, walking a lot, saying no to cake and yes to more fruit. In many ways, the forties are an awesome time to be alive.

And eating healthy for less without losing sleep over arsenic. And I don’t think we should subsidize unhealthy habits. How I got started in eating healther. Meals are too focused on meat and carbs due to how we describe them, maybe I eat too many bananas in the office, what to eat while camping, worry more about salt then GMOs, eat more beans. Do spend extra for farmers market peaches, especially doughnut peaches and plums. Consider ethnic supermarkets. Thinking about how to make a healthier macaroni and cheese, spinach-mackeral-pasta salad, quick-cook biscuits and whole-wheat bread. That said, too many recipes are junk food crap. Okay in moderation is not okay. The fact that I’m thinner is not a sign I’m dying.

A few years back I decided to explore my mental illness with therapy, thinking about why I have so much anxiety and how many of my values are rational or just thinking too much rednecks’ burn barrels and how much of a throwaway society we live in. Do I want to change?

I’ve learned to care less about the world, and focus more on myself. Maybe I am happier as I am now, saving and investing a lot towards owning my own land, where I don’t have to deal with all the bullshit of modern life.

Those bananas and oatmeal pancakes are good on this Saturday morning ๐Ÿฅž

To think all these years I used to eat pancakes made out of white flour, sugar and whatever other chemicals that are in grocery store pancake mix compared to just whole grain oatmeal, a banana and some water run through a food processor and fried with a pan with just a little bit of non stick spray. I just have gotten to hate all prepared mixes and recipes you find on the internet and cook books with 20,000 ingredients and steps which all involve cooking using PFOAs topped pans with lard and substitutes, sugar and substitutes, along with a ton of added salt. But maybe my tastes have changed as I’ve lost weight or you care far more about nutrition then taste. I don’t do portion control but I also don’t eat crap anymore that doesn’t fill my stomach with good nutritious food.

At any rate, Good morning! Happy Saturday. Can you believe it’s already the weekend? ๐Ÿ˜ƒMostly cloudy and 71 degrees at the Elm Ave Town Park . โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. Going to hot and humid ๐Ÿ˜ฐ out later so I figure walk ๐Ÿšถ now before it gets too ungodly hot out later.

Woke up around 5:15 as a fire truck ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’came roaring through the neighborhood and I fell asleep pretty early last night, as I cut my evening walk short โ›ˆ as I was sure it would thunderstorm and pour before I could get home. I also started early after a quick cold dinner of kidney beans with sugar free maple ๐Ÿ syrup. 10 miles on the dot yesterday, I managed to squeeze it out by a quick walk in the Elm Ave Park followed by some laps at Swift Wetland Preserve near where I live then a few laps back inside. Also did 40 flights of stairs up and down at work – two times up and down (morning, lunch, home) to the 18th floor plus four flights in the LOB. Been two weeks of only using the stairs at work. ๐Ÿง—โ€โ™‚๏ธ

I was up early but didn’t start walking ๐Ÿšถ until 6:45 this morning. Had said pancakes ๐Ÿฅž first topped with the remaining farmers market blueberries. They were good ๐Ÿซ but paying $7 for a pint of fresh blueberries even in these inflationary times seems like highway robbery when you can just as healthy frozen 3 lb for a few more bucks. It’s good to treat yourself once and a while. Plus I didn’t want to go to the store until today. ๐Ÿ’ธ Truth be told what I really want is fresh tomatoes ๐Ÿ… and sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ from the farmers market.

Today will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 10am. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

I would like to get in about four 4โƒฃ miles of walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning before heading home ๐Ÿชฐ but the deer fly may change my mind first. Doing the nature trail loop at Elm Ave Park that I do most evenings. Then head home. I want to pull out of the freezer the remaining chicken ๐Ÿ” breast I have to thaw in the fridge for cooking in the oven, probably tomorrow morning early and then refreezing cooked portions for future years. I no longer get the precooked strips because they’re loaded with fat and salt to say nothing of preservatives and so much more expensive than what I can prepare myself and freeze. And also cook up the black beans I have as they’re so good cold with red onions, especially in the heat. Also want to try to make hummus out of the chickpeas I soaked earlier in the week and then roast the rest to mix with blueberries, raspberries,, strawberries and walnuts. ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅœ๐Ÿซ

Then I want to go to the library ๐Ÿ“š and briefly study the spec sheets a bit more on the bicycles I’m researching ๐Ÿ” before heading over to Steiners Sports in Glenmont to hopefully check out the Trek Marlin 5 or 6 and the Trek Verve 2, and maybe the Dual Sport 2 though I’m leaning towards a mountain bike and the Trek brand due to the local popularity and parts and service availability. Then I’ll head over to Market 32 and Walmart for groceries. ๐Ÿ›’ My current lack of frozen fruit and plain Greek yogurt is kind of a bummer especially knowing how hot it’s expected to be by evening.

If Steiner is a bust for getting a bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ, I’ll head to Downtube in the afternoon to look there. Or if I like what Steiner has but they only have my size in Hudson it will be a road trip. They’re Hudson location is also open on Sunday so I could do that tomorrow too. Who knows how this will go. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ, with a low of 66 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 7pm. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1963.

I was so sure I had that dentist appointment next week ๐Ÿฆทbut I am wrong it would appear as I haven’t got an appointment reminder. I called and texted the dentist on Friday but it was after they had closed for the day. I do hope to get out of town next weekend, maybe tacking on Friday and or Monday. โ›บ Maybe just Schoharie especially if I have the bicycle for the Catskill Scenic Trail. And practice my swimming ๐ŸŠ strokes before vacation, which with my weight loss I should be a much stronger swimmer. If next weekend looks bad there is always the free Nature Bus to Thacher Park. ๐Ÿš I haven’t done the Nature Bus yet this year. ๐Ÿ†“

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:05 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 57 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. Burgers and steak ๐Ÿ” are a good treat on occasion and I do like skim milk in coffee โ˜• at times, and plain Greek yogurt remains wonderful ๐Ÿจ but I admit I’ve cut back a lot due to calories and especially the omega 6 saturated fat in cattle. But they’re such wonderful animals for protecting grass lands while putting the land to use in a sustainable fashion. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1997.

Across the Lake

November 21, 2020 11 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It turned out to be a nice starry night. After my evening ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I sat out back for a while. Its only about forty degrees out but with a coat it’s not too bad. I kind of wish I had gone up to the Adirondacks for the weekend.

Lots of friends and colleagues are posting pictures of the deer ๐ŸฆŒ they harvested on the first day of rifle season. Basically that one day accounts for 2/3rds of the state’s deer harvest. I’ve always just done small game although this year I didn’t get a license as I was busy with work and then it was so hot that one weekend I was up in the woods. Eventually when I own my own land. I’ll also hire a guide and really learn what I’m doing first and then invest serious time in a tree stand. Folks who have harvest a nice buck on opening day often spend weeks if not months studying and observing the land from their stand, zeroing in their rifles, looking at aerial photos and maps. That said, having your own land to hunt is a big benefit – public lands hunting sucks when your looking off a ridge and can spot two other hunters from your vantage point.

Hiking the Pine Bush was nice but it was so busy. ๐Ÿฆ‹ I probably should have hiked after the press conference after dark but I wanted to do some hiking. Almost every parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ spot at the Discovery Center was packed. So many people on the trails. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป The only place more packed then the Discovery Center Trails was the mall. Yucky. A crowded Crossgates Maul during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿคง๐Ÿ‘พ Saw two bow hunters there. ๐Ÿน I was kind of surprised as I thought most bow hunters would put their bow away for the first day of rifle in other parts of the county but maybe they figured the orange army ๐Ÿ”ซ would drive the deer into the Pine Bush.

Save the Pine Bush got a big victory by that judge โš–๏ธ ruling over the neighbors case over the SEQRA process over the Costco and apartment complex in the Pine Bush. ๐Ÿฆ‹ While I’m sure the ruling will be appealed and Save the Pine Bush must continue on its fight it buys the area time from being developed. ๐ŸŒฒ

Tonight will be partly clear ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 30th. North wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 8 occurred back in 2018.

This weekend turned out nicer than I expected and I kind of wish I could have rounded out this calendar ๐Ÿ—“ year of camping with 60 nights but I’ll make it there God willing before 2021. Still five more weekends left in the year. With the pandemic and remote work ๐Ÿ’ป I’ve spent more time camping ๐Ÿ• and nights in the woods then ever before. Some places got overused and there was some abuse of some places but there is still a lot of great wild country out there.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 49% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (237ยฐ) at an altitude of 9ยฐ from the horizon, some 243,515 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ Quite a nice moon under star lit skies. At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by May 25th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west-southwest (248ยฐ) at 10:59 pm. The Full ๐ŸŒ• Moon is on Monday, November 30. The darkest hour is at 11:42 pm, followed by dawn at 6:25 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:56 am in the east-southeast (117ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 16 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:39 am with sun in the southeast (125ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 54 seconds over last night.

No sleeping pills ๐Ÿ’Š left for tonight but with the red light in my bedroom ๐Ÿ’ก and sitting out back earlier I hope I’ll sleep okay. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป I’m going to buy more pills the next time I’m at Walmart – get the big jar that will last a long time.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 39 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 6th. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 9.1 inches of snow fell back in 1943.โ„

In four weeks on December 19 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (238ยฐ) at 4:24 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 3 minutes and 33 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had cold weather with mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 18 and 6 degrees. I remember going out for a walk on that cold winter day. Typically, you have temperatures between 35 and 20 degrees. The record high of 54 degrees was set back in 1895.

Tree Line

February 9, 2019 Night

Good evening! Clear and 20 degrees in Delmar. There is a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at Wednesday around 8 am. 🌡๏ธ Cool night but reasonable for February. I probably would have gone for a walk tonight but my headphones were dead and I was working on debugging the code for the lights in my bedroom. Finally got most of the bugs worked out.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 14 degrees at 3am. Two degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around January 27th. Maximum wind chill around 10 at 10pm; Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 30 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around January 22nd. West wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1955. 4.0 inches of snow fell back in 1892.โ„

Tomorrow night will have a chance of light snow, mainly between 8pm and 3am. Mostly cloudy 🌨, with a low of 16 degrees at 6am. One degree below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around February 8th. Maximum wind chill around 23 at 9pm; Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1962.

After work on Friday I went to Dove and Deer and was very unimpressed by the swanky bar. 🍺 Over priced in my book, none of the relatively affordable bar food, and it just felt weird wearing my Carharrt in there. Not my kind of place, I doubt I’ll go back. I had two Coors Light beer and I was hammered. I don’t drink much anymore so a beer or two can get me very drunk. I was sad they didn’t have Utica Club like City Beer Hall. I have a special thing for UC after working out in Utica one summer. Coors Light is horse piss but cheap.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I won the war on the ants. It’s been over a week since I saw the last one. For a while they were bad, I was whiping a ton off the counter everytime I went into the kitchen but now they disappeared as fast as they came. 🐜 Glad that’s been resolved.

Finally worked most of the bugs out of the code for the light controller I’m building. I kept running into issues processing the Bluetooth strings that are communicated across my bedroom and then getting all the timing right for the virtual sunset and sunrise. :idea:All that’s done now, it’s onto the additional features and writing the Bluetooth Android phone app which I don’t expect to be too difficult as I previously wrote one.

I decided with the wind and the cold to stay home today. 🏃I did walk down to the library and then for a walk around the Swift Preserve. I bought some milk. At home I worked on some maps and a whole bunch of other random projects. I’m kind of glad I stayed home, it allows me to save money and I don’t have to worry about driving places. It’s just easier to be home. 🏡 I’m looking forward to having the lights come on ever so gently come Monday morning.

In four weeks on March 9 the sun will be setting at 5:55 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 11 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had snow showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 37 and 27 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 41 and 23 degrees. The record high of 81 degrees was set back in 2016. I went out truck cap camping at Betty Brook the next day and it was pretty nice – ice free and quite warm. The next morning started daylight savings time. I remember having to keep an eye on my phone with concerns over the state budget.

I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately as I often do in late winter. 😵 I took a sleeping pill and am planning to sleep in late again tomorrow. I’m hoping with the lights set to dim at 10:10 pm each night I’ll get in the habit of getting to sleep a bit earlier going forward. 💤 Some of those dreams come morning are pretty wild and I hate waking up at five in the morning and not being able to get back to sleep. But I’m sure once the windows are open and I’m able to spend some nights in the wilderness sleeping will improve, it always does.

Looking ahead, there are 11 weeks until Arbor Day 🌳 when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2018, we had a rather cold day with rain showers and partly cloudy skies with temperatures between 50 and 36 degrees. Doesn’t sound that bad but it should be warming up by then. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day 🌳 is in 11 weeks, 8 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 12 weeks, June 🍹 is in 16 weeks, Average High is 80 🏖 is in 19 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year 😅 is in 22 weeks and Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 28 weeks.

May 2, 2018 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A Summer Day, the kind they don’t have on Fords because the drive line is lower, of course. Two weeks to Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ. Seems like a joke today with temperatures expected to reach the mid 80s. ๐ŸŒทSunny and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a southwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

They already have the air conditioning running on the bus and it feels nice. ๐Ÿ˜ŽI’m sure by later on in the day I’m going to want to close the window shades in my office because with those south facing windows it will get hot. ๐Ÿ”ณBut gawd, I love the view of the mountains. ๐Ÿ—ป

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž , with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. Going to be a really nice day, first really summer like day of the year. ๐Ÿ˜Ž 22 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 47 at 8am. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 2001. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

The sun will set at 7:57 pm with dusk around 8:28 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies and 82 degrees. I wonder how warm it will be in my apartment when I get home. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy โ˜, with a low of 65 degrees at 5am. 22 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6am. Southwest wind 7 to 13 mph. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1966.

A bit chilly this morning but expected to warm up quickly. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Going to reach towards record breaking warmth for the first time this year, at least the summer season. At any rate the 80 odd degrees temperatures will feel nice before the cool and rainy weather come Thursday and Friday. Then nice for the weekend but cooler. ๐ŸŽข A definite spring roller coaster.

Traffic is stopped going downtown due to continued road construction. ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿš“๐Ÿš•๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš™๐Ÿš™๐Ÿš— They’re painting really fancy looking crosswalk markings on the road to reduce the number of pedestrians killed by drivers or something like that. The bus was on time, ๐Ÿšbut now it’s running a few minutes behind schedule due to the road work. ๐Ÿšง Doesn’t matter, I grabbed an earlier bus because I knew it would be delayed with the road work.

As I previously mentioned, I got my big VMS display board thingy back working again last night in my bedroom. ๐Ÿ“บAll I had to do was resolder and replace a few of the wires I pulled off. ๐Ÿ“The auto on and off override switch is working well so if I go to bed before eleven I can turn it off or while I’m at work. But it also turns off automatically at 11 pm each night and runs at 1/8th normal brightness after eight o’clock each night. I just like being awoken to Good Morning each day. Kind of pleasant. ๐ŸŒป

There’s an electrolytic capacitor ๐Ÿ”ฌthat keeps humming on it anytime its not at full brightness which is a bit annoying but it’s pretty faint unless you’re trying to hear it. Not really audible except when you are sitting next to it with the windows closed. Not sure why the capacitor hums๐Ÿ”‰ like that, maybe due to the rapid changes in voltage from the pulse width modulation causing vibrations. The capacitor is doing it job at smoothing through voltage but the pulse width modulation of the display must be in the audible range. Ain’t a thing I could do about it except maybe put it inside box to hide the noise.

Went out for my evening walk which was quite pleasant. ๐ŸšถThere was a football game that had just ended at the high school and the air had the light smell of barnyard ๐Ÿ„while walking past the farm down the street. I like living almost in the country but still able to public transport to work. Pretty moon too. ๐ŸŒ”

Enjoyed sleeping with the windows open. My big display signs said it was 63 when I went to sleep and 52 when I arose.๐Ÿ“ Now it’s 60 when I left for work. Should be interesting to read the number when I get home. Sun keeps getting up earlier and earlier, ๐Ÿ’คI should try to get to bed earlier because I’ve been waking up earlier. ๐ŸŒ„Birds start chirping at four am.๐Ÿฅ

Decided against going shopping. ๐Ÿ—By the time I got home it was fairly late so I decided instead to go out for a walk, work on some code and other projects like startingใ€ฐ๐Ÿ’ป to geocode the deer harvest data to post later on and making up maps.

Tonight I hope to get out of work at a reasonable hour so I can get down to the park ๐ŸŒณwith a book and read until well after dark.๐Ÿ“š I always enjoy nice summer evenings at the park. Few things are nicer than a long summer night with a book. When I get home I may sit out back with a cold drink. ๐Ÿบ

So going camping this weekend in the Adirondacks to kick off the endless summer season. โ›บ Nice weekend after we get through the showers and thunderstorms on Friday. I look forward to a nice breakfast up at camp. Not to mention a good fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until the Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:44 pm. On that day in 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 77 and 44 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1991.

May 11, 2016 Night

Sitting out back right now looking up at the moon and stars above. In the hour or so past dusk the temperature has dropped a bit, we are now down to 58 degrees. Still a quite pleasant evening. I hear deer crashing through the woods where the marshy, partially piped under Phillipin Kill runs. Not quite the wilderness but still some solitude out back.

I went down to the park for a while this evening after the town board meeting. Nice evening down at the park. The passed a resolution condemning the Pilgrim Pipeline and I had no problem speaking against that. I had no idea why I was invited to the meeting by my friend, but it was worthwhile. Passing a strong anti-Piligrim pipelines law with a lot of public support sends a message. A lot of municipalities have been voicing their opposition to this pipeline.

While I watched the PBS Newshour tonight, I on put together some more Google Maps. Tomorrow I’ll start featuring them. I made maps of farm wineries, median income of Pennsylvania, and one of income by block group in Clinton County. Should be real interesting to look at during the coming week. A week from Friday the local April unemployment numbers come out and they’ll be fun to map too.

Well have a great evening. Sleep well.
