April 30, 2017 Morning

Good afternoon! Where did April go? I thought it went quick, maybe due to the late state budget. Later this week it will feel more like early April then May. Two weeks to Mother’s Day. Don’t forget about your mother. She’ll be mad if you do.

There is light rain and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northeast breeze at 8 mph. Sort of how the month of May is expected to begin. The skies will clear tomorrow around 1 pm.

Today will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 58 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal. North wind 6 to 8 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies and a high of 66 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1903. There was a dusting of snow in 2008.

Today is pretty cold and damp. Some rain but relatively dry. I might go for a short hike this afternoon, that’s to be decided. Depends if the rain stops.

The sun will set at 7:55 pm with dusk around 8:26 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy conditions and 60 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated showers before 7pm, then isolated showers after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal. South wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, it got down to 44 degrees with periods of rain. The record low of 28 occurred back in 2008.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Mother’s Day when the sun will be setting at 8:10 pm with dusk at 8:42 pm. On that day in 2016, we had fog, rain and temperatures between 73 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 69 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 1900.

It was a beautiful morning then the clouds came back in. I should have taken my chance to get in the fresh air before the rain. Oh well. I’ve updated the weather records database and automated the database using NOAA website. This way at the end of the month, weather updates are easy. I used to use Weather Underground data but they cut back on the amount of data they publish for free, so now I’m pulling the data from the horses mouth or something like that. Maybe I should be careful as horses have big teeth.

I’m going to order online two of those Buddy Heater filters so I have them, although at this point I doubt I’ll be using the heater much more but then again you can still have some cold mornings and wet days in the Adirondacks. It’s too bad it’s a seasonal product and Lowes doesn’t have them in stock any more this time of year. I’m going to try cleaning the regulator hose I have but I think it’s plugged with dirt and condensate. I’ve never had any trouble with the regular hoses and if I plug a filter, they are inexpensive compared to the quick disconnect hose, which really ain’t that much quicker.

Well I should take out the trash and recycling, and do some cleaning. I have a lot of cans because I’ve been drinking all that beer I bought for camping. I should cut back as it has a lot of calories, and I’m already a big boy. Maybe next week when I run out of beer. I should drink more milk and water as it’s healthier.
