It’s unofficially summer 2023 ๐Ÿ–

Heading up to the mid 90s by mid-week to kick off dairy month then cooling down by the weekend after thunderstorms on Friday. But in the mean time beautiful weather for the work week and that freshly cut hay smells amazing.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Out walking ๐Ÿšถ bright an early right around 6 o’clock 6โƒฃ but truth he told with the sunrise this early these days it ain’t that early. I have my doctors appointment at 8:30 and I plan to walk there after breakfast and a shower ๐Ÿง‘‍โš•๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ so I wanted to make sure I had sufficient time this morning. Health-wise I feel great but I figured getting checked out isn’t a bad thing especially as it’s free and I’m doing a lot more exercise and healthy activity.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 12th. South wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1987.

I’m thinking today would be a good morning for eggs, spinach and feta ๐Ÿณ to start out the day with a good punch. I also found some younger garlic mustard in the woods I foraged that I want to add to the meal ๐Ÿด. With summer and eating healthy I’m going to try to forage more food. It’s surprising how much is out there if you look. ๐Ÿ‘€ Wild Juneberries soon are a delicious treat. ๐Ÿ“ Soon!

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.1° from the due south horizon (-1.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:43 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (301°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:25 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 8:58 pm, which is 50 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (170°) at an altitude of 41° from the horizon, 244,204 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:43 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 73 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy smoke between 11pm and 1am. Mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 19th. South wind 6 to 9 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1961.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Not super warm but still very summer like. Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 7am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

I’m heading out of town this weekend ๐Ÿ• but how far I go is yet to be decided. Hammock Camping offers more options close to home. I’ve thought about paddling Lilly Lake in the Adirondacks or maybe Rensslearville State Forest and spending at least one night hammock camping at the new Hillcross Parcel to watch the stars over the Catskills from the pond.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.

Memorial Day 2023

I guess it’s official that the unofficial start of summer has begun. That said, my summer really doesn’t kick off until legislative session is done though I expect next weekend not to be super busy so I will be able to get out of town. I’m just looking forward to a long quiet weekend totally off-grid with no work concerns to think about or address.

Good morning! Talk about a beautiful Memorial Day. Sunny and 68 degrees at the Cole Hill State Forest. ๐ŸŒž There is a east breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees.

I have to say it’s been nice hammock camping up at Cole Hill State Forest. โ›บ Only sixteen miles, two traffic lights and speed zones, 22 minutes to home. Sure beats fighting traffic on NY 30 to get home and unpacked. Very few black flies, a nice breeze and good meals ๐Ÿด cooked over the campfire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I liked the simplicity of it all and the taste of the meals. Since I’ve gotten into healthy eating, the quality of food has improved enormously and I don’t mind the lack of hang overs at all.

Memorial Day will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 78 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 9th. Maximum dew point of 48 at 11am. East wind around 7 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1931.

Not rushing to take down camp ๐ŸŽ’ that said I don’t have that much gear to take down. I do want to have time to go for a stroll around the forest before heading home, unpacking and showering ๐Ÿšฟ before seeing my folks for Memorial Day. In the evening I might do a quick hike up Bennett Hill before heading home for the night. ๐ŸŒƒ Then three session days this week, with only one likely late night on Wednesday and obviously the work picnic at six tomorrow. ๐Ÿงบ I also have my doctors appointment for my yearly physical in the morning at 8:30 on the morning, I plan to leave by 7:45 am so excited can walk ๐Ÿšถ there.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:44 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

I stayed up until after 11 pm last night ๐ŸŒƒ but it was such a nice evening last night and I figured I could sleep in. Chicken, rice, onions, lentils, tomatoes in a wrap was dinner last night cooked over the fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ As you might have guessed, it was amazing. Lots of moonlight followed by stars โœจ. Hiked 10 miles yesterday along the Long Path and truck trails, along with trips back and forth carrying food and supplies back and forth to the truck. ๐Ÿ›ป

The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:26 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 8:59 pm, which is 52 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (183ยฐ) at an altitude of 47ยฐ from the horizon, 246,793 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:43 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 70 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 29 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 7th. Southeast wind around 10 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1967.

The beautiful weather keeps rolling into the weekend. โ˜€ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees. Fantastic. Not sure if it warrants a trip to the Adirondacks but I definitely want to be camping ๐Ÿ• and hiking somewhere fun and nice. Water temperature is still real cold. Truck cap camping again I’m planning on. It’s certainly more convenient that way.

Looking ahead, next Monday is 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ with dusk at 9:05 pm. Nice! On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 77 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925. Before my time.

Muddy, But Dramatic

Memorial Day Weekend, Day Two 2023 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ โ›บ ๐ŸŒฒ

While it would have been nice to get out of town for the Memorial Day Weekend, I’m enjoying the light breeze camping in the back country of Cole Hill, eating good healthy and delicious meals cooked over the fire and enjoying the light of a fire, the moon and candles in the evening. I’m sure if I had gone to the Adirondacks I would have been dealing with a lot more black flies to say nothing of the long drive, traffic and probably not getting my dream campsite. Onwards to Juneteenth Weekend, lol.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Sunny and 68 degrees at the Cole Hill State Forest. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. The dew point is 46 degrees. Warming up quickly after a somewhat cool night. I probably could have used another blanket for hammock camping last night.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 24th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 11am. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. That breeze is nice and it’s not expected to be real humid. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 2016. I think that year I was camping in the Green Mountain National Forest and spending much of the day at the beach at Grout Pond. There was a dusting of snow in 1902.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:43 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 8:57 pm, which is 52 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southwest (199ยฐ) at an altitude of 51ยฐ from the horizon, 248,997 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:41 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 30 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 51 degrees at 4am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 26th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Northwest wind around 7 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1956.

I took my bike to Downtube and they told me that they didn’t think it warranted a professional rebuild ๐Ÿšฒ due to numerous components needing replacement to get it up and running well. They were more than happy to show me the latest 2023 models which run about $800 after tax and destination charges, but suggested my bicycle might still be a fun project to rebuild myself even if there are some components – namely the gas suspension which is bad and will fail catastrophically at some point in the future. They pointed me in the direction of the Albany Bicycle Rescue which offers free classes on bicycle repair on Tuesday.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until the Gas Up Day 2 ๐Ÿšœ when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:08 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 78 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1947.

Brief Rainshower On A Hot Day

May 6, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. โ›บ

Made it to the May camping trip, the first quote unquote summer camping season. The black flies are swarming but as far as I can tell they aren’t biting. I’m glad I’m not getting eaten alive in the Adirondacks and truth be told it’s a lot quieter than camping on NY 8 East Branch Sacandaga River with all the road traffic.

Kind of a chilly start to the weekend, especially with the wind. Mostly sunny and 47 degrees at the Burnt-Rossman State Forest. There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

I kind of played hookie and snuck out of work at 1 pm on Friday, that is with the big directors permission, โ›บ I wanted to get up to camp early so I could ensure I could get the Duck Pond campsite which sometimes is taken, and then have time to do some hiking before dark. Plus I had the time I would otherwise loose come next Wednesday so I made the leap.

I managed to forget my day pack ๐ŸŽ’ at home. I realized it yesterday when I was in Middleburgh. What to use for hiking to have food and carrying water? ๐Ÿ’ฆ I figured out a chair bag would work for that slung over my shoulder. It looks a bit odd but works okay. I think I need to update my packing list – things have changed but my packing list hasn’t kept up with the changes. ๐Ÿ“ƒ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 24th. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

Black flies are out and swarming ๐Ÿœ but they aren’t biting. If it’s anything like yesterday, get into the darker parts of the woods away from water or come dusk they’ll be gone. I’m sure it would be worse in the Adirondacks.

But regardless it’s a nice morning. ๐ŸŒ… I woke up at six o’clock like usual but decided after peeing to get some more sleep. Then it was coffee โ˜• and oatmeal – banana pancake ๐Ÿฅž mix topped with blueberries. Going to read ๐Ÿ“– and listen to a podcast until around 10:30 then start a road hike, heading back to the woods ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ after spring turkey ๐Ÿฆƒ closes at noontime. I want to check out the Rossman Hill Leanto and Looking Glass Pond ๐ŸŽฃ and then maybe head down to Panther Hollow along the Long Path.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 64ยฐ from the due south horizon (-6.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:24 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Hsd a loose connection on the inverter last night ๐Ÿ”‹ which kept it tripping out due to under voltage. Tightened it up and now it seems great. After all these years I’m really figuring out the system working out all the bugs. ๐Ÿ› That said, I’m already considering what I might do different on a future truck. ๐Ÿ›ป I was thinking about how much I miss having the little truck for navigating the back roads – I’m always careful about where I take Big Red as he’s tough to navigate on the narrow roads and sways a lot on the rough roads which I don’t want to break my big expensive truck on.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (294ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:03 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 8:34 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:13 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 55 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 21 seconds over yesterday.

When I get back I want to do a wrap ๐ŸŒฏ with chicken ๐Ÿ” rice ๐Ÿš tomato ๐Ÿ… and fresh spinach. Maybe include some tofu, mushrooms ๐Ÿ„ and hot sauce. Already my mouth is watering. ๐Ÿ˜‹ I was going to go that last night but I ended up doing fish with asparagus and tomato ๐Ÿ…. Also good. Next time I might bring more beer ๐Ÿป and I might get a small package of cookies. ๐Ÿช I’m really trying to improve my diet but I think I can make exceptions in moderation especially if I’m planning a high activity day. ๐ŸฆตThat said in general I’m not going back on my now healthier and often more delicious eating habits.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Southwest wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1874.

Last night I did a nice hike ๐Ÿ‘ฃ down into Cole Hollow along the Long Path. Strangely enough I had never done much hiking down there. That Cole Hollow campsite โ›บ is pretty nice, I should keep it in mind especially if I’m going to Mine Kill Pool or planning to bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ ride in the Schoharie Valley. I feel like I could potentially ride right from there as the elevation is relatively low. Deep hollow though, no cell service or likely much radio service. Kind of like Betty Brook.

Too bad it was so cloudy yesterday night for the full ๐ŸŒ• moon. It cleared out late but not until very late when I was in bed for the night. Maybe I can enjoy the moonlight tonight. I do enjoy how much quieter it is up here compared to what it would be on NY 8. Plus far less black flies, or maybe not they were really swarming last night when the sun was still up. It’s May everywhere.

Trying to upload some pictures this morning ๐Ÿ“ธ but the internet up here is a bit temperamental though at least I now have a card reader that allows me to upload photos taken by my good camera on the phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ But even that is a bit tricky as my phone doesn’t like the uppercase JPG extensions which force me to rename the files ๐Ÿ“‚ before I can even preview them on my phone.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:40 pm with dusk at 9:13 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 86 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

 White Tulips

May 5, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Cinco de Mayo. ๐Ÿค

Cinco de Mayo falls on a Friday, which doesn’t happen but every seven to eight years, unless of course you use the Cosworth calendar.

Cool and cloudy to start out the morning. Mostly cloudy and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The skies will clear around 1 pm.

My truck is mostly packed ๐Ÿ›ป for the coming weekend. I am working until 1 pm after which I’m heading out of town. It should be a nice weekend. I would have taken a full day off but this year hasn’t proven to have much comp time so I’m trying to save what I can for the summer and autumn when it’s really nice.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly between noon and 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 61 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 19th. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1900.โ„

Shopping for camping ๐Ÿ›’ these days feels so werid without buying beer, cheese, sausage, apple juice and cookies. ๐Ÿ Apples, fish, spinach, potatoes, strawberries ๐Ÿ“ are in. I have to admit my camp food selections tastes a lot better and are much healthier. Plus I like what it’s doing to my body.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-7.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:20 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:00 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:30 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-southeast (119ยฐ) at an altitude of 3ยฐ from the horizon, 236,835 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:10 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 55 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over yesterday.

I think it will be a great weekend to get away. โ›บ Enjoy the quiet, have some good meals and do some hiking. Lay back in the hammock, have a nice fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Plus with work and everything else I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get out of town again until June. ๐Ÿ–

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 41 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 26th. Light northwest wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 69 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 7th. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 70. โ˜€ Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 46 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm with dusk at 9:03 pm. The average high temperature is 34 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

Rough Road

May 4, 2023 Morning

May the Forth be with you on this Direct Drive of the Week โš™

I think my Ford Ranger years ago had the fifth gear labeled as OD for overdrive. Once you climb the hump of the week, which Ford’s don’t have things get easier I tell myself.

Good morning! Today is the 8:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† . Cloudy, damp and 43 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. โ˜ I’m not sure how much more rain we got last night but this morning is cold. There is a north breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

Yesterday was a tough day ๐Ÿ˜ด as while for most people 11:30 ain’t late, it is for me as I am often up closer to 5 or 5:30 each morning now especially with the earlier sunrise. Kind of a busy day with work too. Walked exactly 8 miles yesterday ๐Ÿ‘ฃ, I was sure yesterday evening would be a soaker but my fears were overblown and I did an evening walk. Salmon, kale, onions and asparagus for dinner last night. ๐Ÿ

Today will have a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 7th. North wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Cooked up a big pot of brown rice, lentils, beans, onions and asparagus ๐Ÿฒ for the week to come. I’m thinking about getting some chicken breasts to roast ๐Ÿ” and chop up with some fresh spinach and a low keto wrap ๐ŸŒฏ for kind of a Cinco de Mayo treat at camp. โ›บ Plus I’m soaking some chickpeas to roast up at camp.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-7.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:19 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (286ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:59 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:29 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (124ยฐ) at an altitude of 14ยฐ from the horizon, 239,785 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:08 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over yesterday.

I was excited to see the Nature Bus ๐Ÿš returns the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend to Thacher Park ๐Ÿž. I think it could be great fun especially with a bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ. I could take the bus up to the park, ride all around Berne then bike home or catch the bus home. ๐Ÿก The bicycle opens up a lot of possibilities.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 29th. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.

I have to pack for camp tonight ๐Ÿ and get a few groceries and supplies. It’s only going to be two nights but I want the necessary supplies to have a healthy, good trip. I haven’t decided if I need the propane heater though it’s nice in the morning. I still have a gallon or two of propane so that should be good for now.

The weekend continues to look like a winner. ๐ŸŒท Saturday, sunny, with a high near 67. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Maximum dew point of 43 at 8pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Maximum dew point of 44 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

My hope is to leave town around 1 pm tomorrow โ›บ and get camp set up early. It’s black fly season but that’s expected this time of year. ๐Ÿœ It won’t be that long until it’s Potholers season. I’m already thinking about the Potholers and summer days with clams. ๐Ÿฆช Doing some hiking and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ this weekend I’m thinking. I wish I had my bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ read but it’s not yet on the road. Making progress I tell myself.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 69 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1918.

Orange

May 3, 2023 Morning

One week until the average high is Seventy ๐Ÿ–

Not that it will feel anything like seventy degree weather today but it like next week will be far more seasonable.

Good morning! What day is it? The State Budget is Done Day, of course. ๐Ÿช Hump day and it feels good to be over the hump, knowing that there won’t be any really late nights anytime soon. Got home at 11:30 and that wasn’t so bad. And I’m up at six o’clock and out walking ๐Ÿšถ. Managed to get in 8.2 miles of steps in, working in steps into my day anyway possible. Sometimes the best thing to do is maintain a schedule and put one foot in front of the other.

I have been drinking coffee more black these days as it’s healthier and gives more of a punch ๐Ÿ‘Š but I’ll probably use some skim milk with the hot coffee. Also want to cook up some rice ๐Ÿš or coos coos this morning for lunch and or future meals. ๐Ÿด
