Missed my morning walk today as I was cooking quinoa and it was dark ๐Ÿฅฃ

Plus I figured I’m bicycling to and from work so that I ought to count for something. The mornings are so dark now, plus post 6:45 the roads around the high school are filled with smoldering cars as the kids sit in there early along the road to get parking. Also I was busy doing a lot of cooking, especially with the quinoa, which the first morning before their cooked take a fair amount of time, between washing them good and clean and then boiling them down ont he stone.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly sunny and 59 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees.

Going to be a nice morning for a ride to work. ๐Ÿšฒ Then I’ll do the stairs. Hopping on the pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ spice craze, I had the quinoa with pumpkin and no sugar but some added chia seeds. I did a much better job cleaning the quinoa this time, which kept them from being too bitter. Last night I made walnut butter in the food processor and that was delicious on home made wheat bread ๐Ÿž that I cooked in the morning. It was good.

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 11am and noon. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 66 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 5th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 3pm. West wind 8 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

This evening I’ll probably walk ๐Ÿšถ down to the library ๐Ÿ“š to return books and maybe get some new ones out plus do a least some steps. Maybe an evening walk but truth be told I’d rather just retire to bed early. ๐Ÿ› Got some salmon out of the freezer, going to have with baked apples, butternut squash, mashed sweet potato and spinach. Should he a good dinner but will be dark by the time I’m done with it. The days of going down to the park after work have come and gone.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:50 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.9° from the due south horizon (-21.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:23 pm with the sun in the west (267°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (273°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:00 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:27 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (225°) at an altitude of 13° from the horizon, 239,238 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:02 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 61 degrees. The dew point will be 52 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday I had to run to the store to get contact solution ๐Ÿ‘€ and ended up getting some sweet potatoes, avocados, frozen squash and melon, along with walnuts, the later which I used to make some walnut butter in the food processor. I thought about doing another try at the bread I made in the morning, which came out a bit flat but I might wait until tonight to knead up some more dough.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 48 degrees at 4am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 27th. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1979.

Weekend is looking pretty nice. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 70. Maximum dew point of 55 at 12pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

I am not sure if I will head out of town, ๐Ÿ• ๐Ÿšฒ as the models suggest different things, but if it’s nice, the Adirondacks are always a good option. That said, if I wait another week, it might be closer to peak color. That said, I told Mom and Dad, I’d take them on a trip to Speculator later this month, so maybe that will be the weekend to do it. It’s a day trip, so I could always just take a day off from work too do it. I need to use up some time, before it gets cold out, so I should plan some more trips. Thinking the week after Columbus Day Weekend for a trip out to the Finger Lakes, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and/or Allegheny National Forest. At least that’s the general direction I’m leaning towards. So many options, so little time. Otherwise, the fall back is the Nature Bus to Thacher Park. Always the most affordable option.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:08 pm with dusk at 6:36 pm. The average high temperature is 34 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

I might have fifteenth weeks of trips planned between now and November with maybe three weekends I can get away โ›บ

That’s kind of just the nature of the beast got to pick and choose which adventures to take, noting that some trips in November wouldn’t be a bad thing – such as a Stoney Pond State Forest and Madison County trip before rifle season and the snow.

Good morning! Rain and 59 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. A half inch of rain is expected before it ends tomorrow around 6 am.

Another dark morning ๐Ÿง‘‍๐Ÿณ baking bread ๐Ÿž and making up rice, lentils and black beans ๐Ÿฒ for the upcoming week. Mom has butternut squash for dinner with chicken and now I’m thinking I got to get some of that from the farmers market or grocery store as it’s so good. The weekend is over but I’m dreaming of future trips. But maybe not next weekend, as it looks kind of rainy. Too bad it couldn’t rain on the weekdays next weekend like it is raining this Monday.

Back to work on the earlier local bus ๐Ÿš as it’s rainy day โ˜” and I’m going to walk laps in the Plaza before climbing the stairs and getting down to work. Still working downtown for the time being , to wet to ride to work. The rest of the week though looks good for riding to and from work though depending on the final weekend forecast I might take off Friday and maybe Monday to head out of town but where is to be decided. So many dreams of future trips, as soon as I got back from Rensselarville State Forest.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 64 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 9th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 3pm. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1891.

Midday I will have to walk up to Market 32 ๐Ÿ›’ to get contact solution as I’m out. And maybe a few other things for my pantry though I’m pretty much set. Hopefully it won’t be raining too hard midday. Worse comes to worse I can bike ๐Ÿšฒ over to Hannaford after work or I guess drive. But I’d rather avoid that if possible.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:51 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.3° from the due south horizon (-21.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:25 pm with the sun in the west (267°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (274°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:02 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:28 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (237°) at an altitude of 10° from the horizon, 242,172 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:04 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 62 degrees. The dew point will be 59 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 8th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6pm. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1959.

Waiting and watching the weekend forecast. ๐Ÿ˜• I don’t think this early in the week it’s set in stone. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 56 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 60 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Average Night is Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:05 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964. I’ll have to once again fix the air leaks around my door ๐Ÿšช and get out the little space heater and electric blanket. But hopefully not for a while.

I didn’t expect to get wet before heading out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿธ

I mean I probably should have with the summer we’ve had expect rain. Going to clear out later but will be cool for the family clam bake.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Rain showers and 65 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 60 degrees. The skies will clear around noontime.

Woke up early ๐ŸŒ… and to run to the bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ and decided not to go back to sleep. Milled oatmeal down to a fine powder in the food processor and then added one of the fresh apples ๐Ÿ that I got at Yonder Farms and ultimately a banana ๐ŸŒ for sweetness and consistency and a bit of water for pancakes ๐Ÿฅž. Black coffee โ˜• and frozen fruit with sugar free syrup made for a good breakfast.

Rode Blackie ๐Ÿšต out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐Ÿธ for some nature observation and to get away a bit this morning, though I wasn’t expecting the rain. โ˜” Not super wet but unexpected in my mind, I’m hiding our under the pavilion for now. I’ll go for a short walk ๐Ÿšถ and then head home. Then shower ๐Ÿšฟ, get a few groceries at Walmart and clams ๐Ÿฆช at Market 32 ๐Ÿ›’ then head out to the folks house by later midday. ๐Ÿ•›

Today will have isolated showers before 9am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 11th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 11am. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1948.

Yesterday afternoon at Thacher Park ๐Ÿž was nice, though some of those trails were rougher on the bike ๐Ÿšฒ then expected but I try to be super gentle with Blackie not wanting to break shit but I’m also not afraid to now ride somewhat rougher trails with Blackie but I still prefer gravel. Super muddy after the summer that was. Still want to get to Charles Baker State Forest to ride before the snow ๐ŸŒจ comes. Not that I probably have much of a worry this winter with El Niรฑo and I’m not planning on doing much trail riding which closes October 31st, just road riding.

John Wolcott’s funeral is over โ›ช that chapter is closed. The whole wheat bread I made last night came out pretty good, most of it is now frozen. Last night’s dinner was commercial protein pasta you find in the supermarket with a bunch of spinach and the remaining kale I had plus mackerel for a good boost in the omega 3, healthy fats to help absorb the vitamins that make up the spinach and kale. The fats, protein and fiber fill you up quickly. ๐Ÿฒ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 57.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-13.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 59 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 26 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ with a low of 56 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 6th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6pm. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1982.

Now that I made bread with yeast ๐Ÿž, I’m interested in doing baking using baking powder or baking soda for those times I don’t want to mess with kneading or waiting 24 hours for the bread to rise. That’s more kind of for making biscuits but they can be a source of healthy carbs too if you limit the unhealthy fats by using olive oil or ghee and don’t use sugar. Also I was playing with my food processor this morning and will just dry oatmeal seems to do a decent job of milling whole grain oatmeal down to oat flour – and not just pancakes. ๐Ÿช

Today in 1859, Petroleum is discovered in Titusville, Pennsylvania leading to the world’s first commercially successful oil well. ๐Ÿ›ข To this day, that town still smells like petroleum, and it floats in the creeks, but they produce much less oil today then at the peak around the turn of the century. Exploring the Oil Creek State Park is fun as is Pithole abandoned oil town but do expect a strong petroleum smell. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ But then again, Western PA smells like petroleum like the Black River Valley smells like cattle and manure. Just part of the country.

Looking ahead but maybe not forward to dark mornings walked or risen, there are 2 weeks until 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 7:16 pm with dusk at 7:43 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 83 and 56 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1931.

Zucchini spaghetti is pretty darn good! ๐Ÿ

How did I not know such a thing before today? I heard of spiralizers but never used one. I’m very happy with my decision to hop on my bike, ride and get a zucchini spiralizer at Walmart rather than go to Indian Ladder Farms for apples today. The store bought apples are fine – probably any of the ones Indian Ladder at this point has been stored in nitrogen for the past year and would quickly spoil. In two weekends I’ll likely bike out to Indian Ladder.

Good afternoon! Clouds and sun and 76 degrees at the Delmar. ๐ŸŒฅ Probably a thunderstorm will come through before this blog post is done. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 67 degrees and getting muggier as the thunderstorm approaches. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around 1 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

Black is great for a quick run to the grocery store ๐Ÿ›’ like this morning when I ran to Wally World to get a spiralizer for the zucchini that I wanted to try making zucchini lasagna out of. ๐Ÿ With some of excess zucchini and tomatoes made an excellent lunch without all the carbohydrates to crash my blood sugar in a few hours. The spiralizer made excellent zucchini spaghetti, and used the food processor for the tomatoes plus some onions, jalapeños and Italian spices, a frying pan plus some parmesan up top. Good meal ๐Ÿด for lunch. I do want to try zucchini bread next, using whole wheat flour and oatmeal along with stevia, cinnamon and olive oil – also maybe some grapes or other fruit mixed in for flavor. ๐Ÿž

What can I say, Blackie ๐Ÿšต is such a slow dog ๐Ÿถ on the paved bike trails Erie Canal Trail but awesome on gravel and light mountain biking on horse and easy to moderate mountain bicycle trails. It gets blown by the road bicycles like your standing still on the paved bike trails, with a continuous pace and top gear. โš™ But then it’s so much fun on the gravel and even gated haul roads on the background where you’d shred road bike tires. Not so wonderful in deep mud or even in deeper sands like in parts of the Pine Bush but those crawl gears are awesome for crossing the rough terrain. Blackie on asphalt likes to go around 10 mph though on gently slopping terrain, it can easily do a constant 13-15 mph but road bikes blow by at 20-25 mph. It’s kind of the tractor on the interstate experience.

This afternoon will have isolated showers and thunderstorms. It’s summer. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 79 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 1st. Maximum dew point of 67 at 12pm. West wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1947.

Yesterday was a good day, checked off basically everything on my list besides the spiralizer which I got today. โ˜‘ Got a lot of groceries at the Stanton Farm Stand ๐Ÿ‘ though the Pennsylvania peaches they had where a bit disappointing. Their sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ was excellent along with their tomatoes. ๐Ÿ… No good clothes at Goodwill but not unexpected. Mountain biking in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, ๐Ÿฆ‹was great though some of the trails were rougher than I expected and the deep sand wasn’t great in spots though that’s partly my fault for not airing the tires down more but I didn’t want pinch flats. ๐Ÿšฒ I did find a nice pair of shorts and long sleeve shirts at Salvation Army for $20 which fit my smaller size nicely ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘• and I mentioned it to Linda when I was visiting John and she gave me some of his old shirts which fit well too. Going to need to buy smaller jeans ๐Ÿ‘– and in the fall should keep an eye on Salvation Army for dress clothes ๐Ÿ‘” and maybe some new ties but I’ll probably end up buying much of that new at JC Penny. For me it’s not a money ๐Ÿ’ต thing at this point but I’d rather keep good clothes out of the landfill and support needy people. ๐Ÿš๏ธ Plus there is some unique stuff there, especially their ties.

Visiting John was nice though he was largely out of it due to sedatives for pain he’s on. ๐Ÿง“ Rode some of the Erie Canalway which was crowded and the weather hot and sticky ๐Ÿ˜ฐ and the constant blow by of road bikes ๐Ÿšฒ was kind of obnoxious. I prefer more solitude and less spandex as I ride my slow as shit mountain bike. Got most of the supplies and food I needed at Walmart, had dinner – zucchini and onions again, followed by yogurt and frozen fruit with lemonade ๐Ÿ‹ and retired to bed ๐Ÿ›.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 6% illuminated. At 12 PM, the moon was in the southwest (221°) at an altitude of 70° from the horizon, some 249,616 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 19th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the northwest (307°) at 7:04 pm. The Sturgeon ๐Ÿก Moon is on Tuesday, August 29.

The darkest hour is at 1:01 am, followed by dawn at 5:30 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:00 am in the east-northeast (69°) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Tonight will have 9 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over last night.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 60 degrees at 4am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 20th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6pm. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1941.

I don’t think I’ll get to Indian Ladder today ๐Ÿ with rain storms around, and because I got a good ride doing a quick trip out of Walmart on Blackie. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ But soon in a bit I’ll head out to my parents house for Sunday dinner and to do my wash then do a quick hike up Bennett Hill. ๐Ÿ” Then get home, and unpacked. And ready for the upcoming week.

In four weeks on September 10 the sun will be setting in the west (278°) at 7:16 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 45 minutes and 46 seconds earlier then today. That moon to rising at nine o’clock essentially over South Hill in Ithaca last night was amazing. ๐ŸŒ•

Maybe we are day past the official full moon but turning onto Potomac Road from Searsburg Road, the moon rise was most impressive and so large looming over the pasture lands. Not sure if it’s a super moon but it certainly was super from the angle I was viewing it high from the Hector Backbone looking down towards Cayuga Lake.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Mostly sunny and 62 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 53 degrees. Cool start to the morning, I got chilled through wearing shorts and t-shirt, had to get my hoodie on to warm up. The cold is delaying my start this morning but I want to leave fairly soon as today is the calmest forecasted day of the week and I want to go paddling ๐Ÿ›ถ and swimming ๐ŸŠ on Seneca Lake before the wind picks up later.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 11th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 9am. South wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1975.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:14 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-5.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:48 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:28 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 8:58 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:39 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 29 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 12 seconds over yesterday.

Long day yesterday, I didn’t get back to camp โ›บ until nearly 9:15 pm as I was in Geneva until after 8 pm and stopped in search of clams, Greek yogurt and milk at Tops in Waterloo. ๐Ÿช But still the sunset is pretty late in the Finger Lakes but by the time I was past Ovid heading into Lodi it was definitely approaching dusk. ๐ŸŒ† That said the open landscape helped a lot keeping things from being too dark as I drove back to camp. But regardless I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด. I was so fortunate to see last night’s moon rise.

Rode from Seneca Lake to Kueka Lake yesterday via the Kueka Outlet Trail. ๐Ÿšฒ Touched both lakes with the wheel of my bicycle. It’s a lot quicker of a ride then when I walked it. Poked around Dresden and Penn Yan for a while ๐Ÿซ I was very impressed with the Downtown on Penn Yann, it was largely untouched by urban renewal ๐Ÿ—๏ธ and still had many vibrant small businesses and shops. ๐Ÿฌ

I ended up driving ๐Ÿš˜ back to Penn Yan after getting Frozen Custard ๐Ÿฆat the Spotted Duck ๐Ÿฆ† because I decided I had to visit the Penn Yan old fashioned bulk candy shop. I was going to get fudge but ended up getting black chocolate ๐Ÿซ peanut ๐Ÿฅœ brittle that I’m saving for a future day. That place is a throwback not many places like that anymore, especially on Main Street. Reminded me of the old Blue Churn in South Westerlo I used to go to as a kid before it burned down. Spotted duck blueberry Blue Fluer custard was good, the Carmelt caramel custard was amazing. ๐Ÿฆ Maybe it’s vacation FOMO but who knows when I’ll ever get back to Penn Yan again.

The ice cream was wonderful ๐Ÿฆ and the two scoups – duck egg ๐Ÿฅš sized each, wasn’t too much but the sugar fueled a full out anxiety attack in my mind and kept me roaring with crazy ๐Ÿคช energy well into the evening though by 11 pm enough sugar burned off I was okay. Truth is I’ve been having a wonderful vacation โ˜บ but every time I consume any quantity of non natural sugar I get so sick ๐Ÿคฎ. But I’ll probably get a small ice cream at Glen Dairy Bar again tonight and remember the crazy thoughts in my head are just that. But not a mega large dish ๐Ÿจlike on Sunday. Go for the quality not the portion. I don’t know if it’s my fear ๐Ÿ˜ฑ of the calories and getting fat, knowing how bad sugar is for you, or something else but my mental health is so much better the farther I stay away from added sugar. I’m fine eating delicious fruit all day long ๐Ÿ‡ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ‘ but give me ice cream and a few minutes later I’m super wound up.

With all that energy, I drove up to Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva, ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ hoping to get a swim in the lake and a shower ๐Ÿšฟ the later I did but I had forgotten they a few years back had replaced the life guarded beach ๐Ÿ– with a kids splash pad due to the pollution on the lake from blue green algea. Hell of it is, this part of state has been cool and relatively dry so not a lot of water pollution this year compared to many years. But I also wangtted to do the Cayuga – Seneca Bike Path ๐Ÿšฒ from Geneva to Waterloo, as much to say I did it. And to use time up. ๐ŸŒฝ Not a lot of exciting view along it, some view of both the Old Erie Canal and the modern barge canal, lot of marshland, corn and soybean fields. Poked around Waterloo for a while ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ and visited the Civil War monument. ๐Ÿฆณ Ended up going to Tops in Waterloo on Mound Road, you know the one next to Seneca Meadows landfill and getting milk, plain non fat yogurt not Greek as they’re out, and a small two servings bag of salmon. Made it back to camp by nine o’clock, wasn’t super dark out at that point and had a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ until eleven.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 60 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 20th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 8pm. South wind 7 to 14 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1976.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 9 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Then again it’s always cooler in the Finger Lakes compared to Albany records. Good for bike riding, maybe not so great for swimming ๐ŸŠ. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 59 at 8am. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 59 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 7:46 pm with dusk at 8:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 90 and 66 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1953.

After a cloudy start the sun is out โ›… ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜€

Starting to finally get nice out this morning. Going to be a beautiful day.

Good morning! Happy Sunday from Vacationland 2023. Partly sunny and 60 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. Much cooler than before the front came through.

Woke up pretty early this morning, thinking that it would be a nice morning ๐ŸŒ… and I could get up, use the bucket shitter ๐Ÿšฝ and they have coffee โ˜•. I even thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about taking a ride over to Searsburg Road and watching the sun rise. They promised it would be a beautiful day, and it probably will be but it didn’t clear out by nine o’clock last night as promised by the weathermen. โ˜๏ธ I looked to the sky this morning and all I saw was clouds. Maybe I should have pooped ๐Ÿ’ฉ and gone back to bed but instead it was apple banana pancakes ๐Ÿฅž using the remainder of the pancake mix I bought last winter mixed with whole oatmeal, fried apples and mashed bananas. Through
In chia seeds ๐ŸŒฑ for an extra health punch ๐Ÿ‘Š.

Going forward I won’t buy any more pancake mix but instead use that whole grain oatmeal with water and bananas. ๐Ÿฅž I like the hardy more fiber rich oatmeal over the bleached flour, sugar and chemicals of Aunt Jamina’s pancake mix. Less garbage and cost too by using just simple oatmeal and bananas. Really don’t need to waste money ๐Ÿ’ต on packaging to burn. Likewise I’m using real silverware and dishes now while camping as paper plates, and plastic silverware have gotten so expensive with inflation plus who wants to burn all that toxic plastic trash? ๐Ÿ—‘

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8am. Northwest wind around 9 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933. Cool but getting sunny for sure.

Today I have a busy agenda planned. ๐Ÿ“œ But it’s going to be a great one. I plan to get a fairly early start, bike most of the Cayuta Valley Rail Trail. ๐Ÿšฒ Then swim at the Watkins Glen Pool, get ice cream at Glen Dairy Bar ๐Ÿฆ, ride along Rock Cabin Road, watch the sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ on Seneca Lake. Then back to camp for some hammock time before bed. Greased my chain ๐Ÿ”— up well on my bike this morning, cleaned off the mud, and set up the GoPro mount on my bike ๐Ÿ“ธ so I can do some video today riding for the blog and YouTube and other social media. ๐Ÿ“น

Despite a fairly soggy day yesterday, ๐ŸŒง๏ธ I’ve been feeling great without the alcohol and calories ๐Ÿคฐ of years past, choosing healthier nutrient dense meals ๐Ÿด and whole fruits and vegetables ๐Ÿซ‘up here at camp. โ›บ A healthy diet I believe really does improve ones mental health. โ˜บ While I’m not one to blame the chemicals in processed foods – most of them are relative safe, ๐Ÿงชโš—๏ธ most of them mask crap ingredients that are rich in low quality fats and sugars while providing not much vitamins, fiber or protein. Plus being skinner I feel great though I certainly have been stuffing myself this weekend ๐Ÿ‘ but with higher quality whole foods.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:14 pm with sun having an altitude of 66ยฐ from the due south horizon (-4.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (297ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:31 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 9:02 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (146ยฐ) at an altitude of 11ยฐ from the horizon, 228,672 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:43 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 64 degrees. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday became a wet day, though later then expected. Rochester got the rain early, we got it later in the Finger Lakes. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Breakfast was eggs with tomatoes, onions and peppers with a side of old breakfast sausage I bought last winter. Rode Blackie ๐Ÿšต to the top of Hector Backbone though I admit I dismounted and pushed the bicycle part of the way. I had lower gears โš™ to drop it down to but I wasn’t feeling motivated. At the top by Blueberry Hill Campground ๐Ÿซ it started to rain – it was already one o’clock before that happened. More of a passing shower, waited waited it out under a tree. ๐ŸŒณ Rode around the campground, the fee is now up to $15 a night though I can’t imagine camping so packed in with others. I like my fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ and music ๐ŸŽถ, I would be a nuisance if I had to camp around others. ๐Ÿคซ

Tried to get good cell service up there ๐Ÿ“ถ without much luck. A few bars but it was slow, possibly due to the weather. โ›ˆ Rode down the backbone to Potomac Road, much more fun going down then over to Potomac Ponds which I started back, started slinging mud ๐Ÿฝ and decided to turn back when the trail got too muddy. I rode down old Chicken Co-op Road as my GPS calls it ๐Ÿ—บ and the sky just opened up. โ›ˆ๏ธ I wanted to see my favorite old campsite and see how the mud wallow was holding up after all the stone I dumped in it last year. Still quite muddy. Glad I got the site I like on Potomac instead. I headed back to camp, I didn’t mind being soaked as it was still quite warm. ๐Ÿง… Fried up another delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹ Vadella onion on the griddle – sliced it into rings, put it on a cast iron skillet and added a little MSG to really make it pop. Dessert was red kidney beans with some maple syrup ๐Ÿ and a beer ๐Ÿป. Had two beers yesterday between lunch and dinner which is my limit though the first day I had one and maybe none today.

As the front came through the rain picked up and the temperature dropped. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ I read for a while ๐Ÿ“– and listened to a podcast ๐Ÿ“ป from Focus on Albany with Cynthia Pooler interviewing Leon Van Dyke. Interesting history about how the Democratic ๐Ÿด machine worked and the $5 votes ๐Ÿ—ณ and the fear people had about ever speaking up about the machine. Found out John Wolcott is returning home Monday for hospice care, ๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ but he’s still pretty much in his final hours, hope to visit him at least one more time when I get back from vacation. Had some great interviews with John Wolcott and Leon Van Dyke over the years though I wish we had started years earlier ๐ŸŽค before John lost much of his memory and became so frail after getting bit by a tick and collapsing one day in his bathtub ๐Ÿ›. Tick born illnesses are no joke. ๐Ÿœ

After a while with the wind and the rain โ˜” I started to get chilled through at camp and decided I needed to take off my wet clothes. ๐Ÿ‘š I got jeans and a hoodie on, bedded down in my truck with the remainder of the Boggleheads investing book ๐Ÿ“™ which I finally finished off before putting on a different podcast about the history of Mad Magazine before nodding off. ๐Ÿคก Got some shut eye ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ for a few hours before dinner time.

Dinner was more salmon ๐Ÿ  with delicious pearl onions, mini red potato ๐Ÿฅ” , sweet corn and fried slices of tomato ๐Ÿ… – the second half of the big juicy one I got at the farm stand. I still have a full tomato left, it’s like heaven. Eating good. Rode up to Searsburg Road ๐Ÿšฒ hoping to catch the sunset but it was still gray last night but I do have good reception ๐Ÿ“ถ there. Maybe tonight though I think I’ll watch the sunset tonight from Seneca Lake ๐ŸŒ‡. Decided I wanted to get some more miles in before bed ๐Ÿ› after a fairly lazy day ๐Ÿ˜ด so around dusk started over to Foster Pond on the bicycle but turned back as drizzle started. ๐Ÿ”™ Had a small campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ at warm myself and retired to bed around ten ๐Ÿ”Ÿ. Early by vacation standards when it’s not really dark out until around nine.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 6th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming southwest in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 49 occurred back in 2021.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will the Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 7:47 pm with dusk at 8:14 pm. As they say, all good things must come to an end, autumn leaves must fall. But first, summer vacation! ๐Ÿ–

Mud Lock In Cayuga Lake

Rainy Morning Out Today

Warm January weather brings… rain. Which I guess is a good thing, because it keeps things from getting too dried out, but I would rather have snow then rain in the winter. Snow is much more pretty, even if it screws up peopleโ€™s commutes and makes delays of everything.

You canโ€™t really control the weather. At least after the cold snap, we are saving on heating. I turned off the heat yesterday morning, and it hasnโ€™t been on since. I figure if itโ€™s above freezing, there is no need for heat โ€“ I can just turn on the baseboard electric heat temporarily if I get chilly when home.

That said, it sure would be nice to live an well insulated building, that was heated by wood, that I could cut myself and not have to send so much money every month to some fossil fuel company that is fracking the energy from a distant location.

Fog on Mountain

Kind of a wet, dark, Tuesday morning out there folks.
