When the ice cream makes you sick ๐Ÿจ๐Ÿ˜”

Getting those large maple walnut sundaes at the Glen Dairy Bar is quite a tradition for me. But maybe not so much in my forties. All that sugar made me feel so sick and kept me up half the night. I might get ice cream later in the week but it won’t be a large portion for sure! I still feel kind of sick today from all that sugar. Soft ice cream has so much.

Good morning! Where did July go? Lost to vacationland I guess. Today is Ithaca day, exploring the city and the gorges on my bicycle. Beautiful day, partly sunny and 72 degrees at the Cass Park ๐Ÿž on Cayuga Lake. There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees. Big day ahead. Monday, Monday on vacation. ๐Ÿ– It really doesn’t seem too bad.

As I noted, Today is Ithaca Day, that is I plan to do Ithaca is Gorges. Start out at Stewart Park ๐Ÿž this time starting closer to 9 am then 11:30 am. I need to stop and get ice on the way back to camp, the Enfield Dandy’s should be good for that. Mostly for the coolers but I’ll also fill one of the water bottles with ice so as it melts down in the evening I can use it for lemonade with Stevia. ๐Ÿ‹

I don’t have cell service up at camp so I’ve been slow at uploading photos to the blog ๐Ÿ“ธ as it requires a lot of data, and even when I bike or hike where I have good service ๐Ÿ“ถ it seems like it’s still pretty weak up on the backbone and in parts of Watkins Glen. Ithaca today I should have better service but too much blogging ๐Ÿ“ takes time away from adventures. ๐Ÿง—โ€โ™‚๏ธ Ain’t got no time for that!

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny , with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 8th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 12pm. Northwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1917.

That sugar from the ice cream was so bad. ๐Ÿคฎ I thought I was going to have the runs all night spraying poop ๐Ÿ’ฉ off the tailgate of my pickup, having to shovel it come the morning. Wasn’t that bad but I was bouncing off the walls well after midnight, riding the Forest Service roads after dark on my mountain bike ๐Ÿšต,, hanging out at Foster Pond well into the moonlit hours of Monday early hours with no desire to sleep. Sugar is a narcotic when your not used to eating it. Hell of it was I was still a bit hungry when I got back to camp but frying up an onion ๐Ÿง… with some fresh spinach more than filled me up fine. No alcohol yesterday, and only other thing I eat all day was a banana ๐ŸŒ or two, the remainder of pancake ๐Ÿฅž mix and sausage I had bought last winter. But they’re done now and I’m done with that chapter of my life in the thirties. I’m forty now.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:13 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:48 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (296ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:29 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 8:59 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (133ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ from the horizon, 227,253 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:41 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 8 seconds over yesterday.

This morning I avoided anything with sugar and instead fried up spring onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers with a bunch of spinach and an egg or two. ๐Ÿณ Added some parm cheese ๐Ÿง€ and MSG plus pepper. It was good. No desire for anything sweet at this point. ๐Ÿคฎ My stomach still is rumbling from the sugar. I also hard boiled eggs ๐Ÿฅš for protein later. Probably eat dinner on the run this evening.

Swimming ๐ŸŠ in Cayuta Lake at Taughannock, Buttermilk Falls swimming and Enfield Glen swimming are open until seven. That is after exploring the Casacadilla Glen at Cornell University and other bike ๐Ÿšฒ paths and trails in the city. Figuring a light snacky dinner when I get back, probably sugar free syrup plus kidney beans, or maybe I’ll cut into the watermelon ๐Ÿ‰ I got on Friday. That should be good but I know as soon as I cut into the watermelon the clock will be ticking โณand I’ll be eating a lot of water melon. Just like if I get clams ๐Ÿฆช later in the week. Eat eat eat! Just hopefully not get sick like all that ice cream.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 12th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1964.

Yesterday besides my adventures in eating and ice cream sickness it was a busy day, bicycled ๐Ÿšฒ 30 miles, hiked 4 ยฝ, ๐Ÿšถ swam for about a half hour. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ Did all of the Catharine Valley Trail from Watkins Glen to Montour Falls to the end outside of Horsesheads in Pine Valley at the Mark Twain Golf Course โ›ณ. Rode in the evening along Rock Dam Road, you can really fly down there on a mountain bike. ๐Ÿšต Then along Airport Road ๐Ÿ›ฌ at the Catharine Valley WMA to Boat ๐Ÿ›ฅ Launch Lane, then over through the village to the Watkins Glen pier on Seneca Lake. Walked out on the pier, it was colorful evening ๐ŸŒƒ but the sunset was kind of blocked by clouds that came in late. Went back through Clute Park then rode back to my truck around dusk disappointed by the lack of a classic sunset. On the whole it was a beautiful day!

Going to close out vacation next weekend with good swimming weather. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 79. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11am. Maybe paddle Seneca Lake then swim at the Watkins Glen pool. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Maximum dew point of 64 at 11am. Swimming in Cayuga Lake? Then head home around 4 pm or so to be home by dark? ๐Ÿก That’s a long way off, no need to think about it. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until World Mosquito Day ๐Ÿž when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:28 pm. Bugs seem worse this year then normal but no so bad now that the front came through and cooler. On that day in 2022, we had hot, partly sunny and temperatures between 88 and 70 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1916.

Pines Along Cedar River Flow

After a cloudy start the sun is out โ›… ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜€

Starting to finally get nice out this morning. Going to be a beautiful day.

Good morning! Happy Sunday from Vacationland 2023. Partly sunny and 60 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. Much cooler than before the front came through.

Woke up pretty early this morning, thinking that it would be a nice morning ๐ŸŒ… and I could get up, use the bucket shitter ๐Ÿšฝ and they have coffee โ˜•. I even thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about taking a ride over to Searsburg Road and watching the sun rise. They promised it would be a beautiful day, and it probably will be but it didn’t clear out by nine o’clock last night as promised by the weathermen. โ˜๏ธ I looked to the sky this morning and all I saw was clouds. Maybe I should have pooped ๐Ÿ’ฉ and gone back to bed but instead it was apple banana pancakes ๐Ÿฅž using the remainder of the pancake mix I bought last winter mixed with whole oatmeal, fried apples and mashed bananas. Through
In chia seeds ๐ŸŒฑ for an extra health punch ๐Ÿ‘Š.

Going forward I won’t buy any more pancake mix but instead use that whole grain oatmeal with water and bananas. ๐Ÿฅž I like the hardy more fiber rich oatmeal over the bleached flour, sugar and chemicals of Aunt Jamina’s pancake mix. Less garbage and cost too by using just simple oatmeal and bananas. Really don’t need to waste money ๐Ÿ’ต on packaging to burn. Likewise I’m using real silverware and dishes now while camping as paper plates, and plastic silverware have gotten so expensive with inflation plus who wants to burn all that toxic plastic trash? ๐Ÿ—‘

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8am. Northwest wind around 9 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933. Cool but getting sunny for sure.

Today I have a busy agenda planned. ๐Ÿ“œ But it’s going to be a great one. I plan to get a fairly early start, bike most of the Cayuta Valley Rail Trail. ๐Ÿšฒ Then swim at the Watkins Glen Pool, get ice cream at Glen Dairy Bar ๐Ÿฆ, ride along Rock Cabin Road, watch the sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ on Seneca Lake. Then back to camp for some hammock time before bed. Greased my chain ๐Ÿ”— up well on my bike this morning, cleaned off the mud, and set up the GoPro mount on my bike ๐Ÿ“ธ so I can do some video today riding for the blog and YouTube and other social media. ๐Ÿ“น

Despite a fairly soggy day yesterday, ๐ŸŒง๏ธ I’ve been feeling great without the alcohol and calories ๐Ÿคฐ of years past, choosing healthier nutrient dense meals ๐Ÿด and whole fruits and vegetables ๐Ÿซ‘up here at camp. โ›บ A healthy diet I believe really does improve ones mental health. โ˜บ While I’m not one to blame the chemicals in processed foods – most of them are relative safe, ๐Ÿงชโš—๏ธ most of them mask crap ingredients that are rich in low quality fats and sugars while providing not much vitamins, fiber or protein. Plus being skinner I feel great though I certainly have been stuffing myself this weekend ๐Ÿ‘ but with higher quality whole foods.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:14 pm with sun having an altitude of 66ยฐ from the due south horizon (-4.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (297ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:31 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 9:02 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (146ยฐ) at an altitude of 11ยฐ from the horizon, 228,672 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:43 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 64 degrees. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday became a wet day, though later then expected. Rochester got the rain early, we got it later in the Finger Lakes. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Breakfast was eggs with tomatoes, onions and peppers with a side of old breakfast sausage I bought last winter. Rode Blackie ๐Ÿšต to the top of Hector Backbone though I admit I dismounted and pushed the bicycle part of the way. I had lower gears โš™ to drop it down to but I wasn’t feeling motivated. At the top by Blueberry Hill Campground ๐Ÿซ it started to rain – it was already one o’clock before that happened. More of a passing shower, waited waited it out under a tree. ๐ŸŒณ Rode around the campground, the fee is now up to $15 a night though I can’t imagine camping so packed in with others. I like my fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ and music ๐ŸŽถ, I would be a nuisance if I had to camp around others. ๐Ÿคซ

Tried to get good cell service up there ๐Ÿ“ถ without much luck. A few bars but it was slow, possibly due to the weather. โ›ˆ Rode down the backbone to Potomac Road, much more fun going down then over to Potomac Ponds which I started back, started slinging mud ๐Ÿฝ and decided to turn back when the trail got too muddy. I rode down old Chicken Co-op Road as my GPS calls it ๐Ÿ—บ and the sky just opened up. โ›ˆ๏ธ I wanted to see my favorite old campsite and see how the mud wallow was holding up after all the stone I dumped in it last year. Still quite muddy. Glad I got the site I like on Potomac instead. I headed back to camp, I didn’t mind being soaked as it was still quite warm. ๐Ÿง… Fried up another delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹ Vadella onion on the griddle – sliced it into rings, put it on a cast iron skillet and added a little MSG to really make it pop. Dessert was red kidney beans with some maple syrup ๐Ÿ and a beer ๐Ÿป. Had two beers yesterday between lunch and dinner which is my limit though the first day I had one and maybe none today.

As the front came through the rain picked up and the temperature dropped. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ I read for a while ๐Ÿ“– and listened to a podcast ๐Ÿ“ป from Focus on Albany with Cynthia Pooler interviewing Leon Van Dyke. Interesting history about how the Democratic ๐Ÿด machine worked and the $5 votes ๐Ÿ—ณ and the fear people had about ever speaking up about the machine. Found out John Wolcott is returning home Monday for hospice care, ๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ but he’s still pretty much in his final hours, hope to visit him at least one more time when I get back from vacation. Had some great interviews with John Wolcott and Leon Van Dyke over the years though I wish we had started years earlier ๐ŸŽค before John lost much of his memory and became so frail after getting bit by a tick and collapsing one day in his bathtub ๐Ÿ›. Tick born illnesses are no joke. ๐Ÿœ

After a while with the wind and the rain โ˜” I started to get chilled through at camp and decided I needed to take off my wet clothes. ๐Ÿ‘š I got jeans and a hoodie on, bedded down in my truck with the remainder of the Boggleheads investing book ๐Ÿ“™ which I finally finished off before putting on a different podcast about the history of Mad Magazine before nodding off. ๐Ÿคก Got some shut eye ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ for a few hours before dinner time.

Dinner was more salmon ๐Ÿ  with delicious pearl onions, mini red potato ๐Ÿฅ” , sweet corn and fried slices of tomato ๐Ÿ… – the second half of the big juicy one I got at the farm stand. I still have a full tomato left, it’s like heaven. Eating good. Rode up to Searsburg Road ๐Ÿšฒ hoping to catch the sunset but it was still gray last night but I do have good reception ๐Ÿ“ถ there. Maybe tonight though I think I’ll watch the sunset tonight from Seneca Lake ๐ŸŒ‡. Decided I wanted to get some more miles in before bed ๐Ÿ› after a fairly lazy day ๐Ÿ˜ด so around dusk started over to Foster Pond on the bicycle but turned back as drizzle started. ๐Ÿ”™ Had a small campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ at warm myself and retired to bed around ten ๐Ÿ”Ÿ. Early by vacation standards when it’s not really dark out until around nine.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 6th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming southwest in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 49 occurred back in 2021.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will the Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 7:47 pm with dusk at 8:14 pm. As they say, all good things must come to an end, autumn leaves must fall. But first, summer vacation! ๐Ÿ–

Mud Lock In Cayuga Lake

Kind of a shitty weekend again ๐Ÿ’ฉ

The poop emoji is a good way to understand this weekend. Elon Musk’s favorite emoji. Cloudy and humid, might get hot out when the sun comes out later.

Good morning! Mostly cloudy and 70 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 68 degrees. The skies will clear around 9 am.

It’s getting closer to nine ๐Ÿ•’ when I’m out doing my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ as I decided to have breakfast ๐Ÿณ and coffee โ˜• before walking. Just doing the two mile superblock around the High School now, I’ll get some steps in at the store ๐Ÿฌ and later on walk down to the library ๐Ÿ“š or do an evening walk around dusk ๐ŸŒ† when it cools down.

I was going to have banana pancakes this morning ๐ŸŒ but I had too many bananas yesterday in my office, so I decided to stay away from the sugars in favor of using up the remaining frozen spinach I had, fried up along with broccoli, peppers, onions, jalapenos and eggs run through the food processor to make a quiche like scrambled egg breakfast. It’s a good way to start the morning with a lot of fiber and protein, though eggs are really high in saturated fat and cholesterol. ๐Ÿฅš Eggs though are cheap these days. Greek yogurt is slightly better on a ratio of protein to calories though.

I’m moving slowly this morning ๐Ÿ› as I woke up around 4 am and didn’t get back to sleep until 5. I don’t sleep as well as I once did, though usually a few nights in the woods helps a lot with that. โ›บ Sucks the weather is so bad this weekend but it rained heavily a lot of last night, and will be raining more come Saturday into Sunday with potentially heavy rain on Sunday. โ˜” Not worth it to drive out to Schoharie.

I am sweating like a pig ๐Ÿฝ out walking this morning, it’s so humid. Not going to be a nice day too do much outside, maybe poolside wouldn’t be bad as the sun comes out, but I am not sure how long we have before the thunderstorms come rolling through.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 87 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 12pm. South wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1997.

Working on my grocery list ๐Ÿ“œ ๐Ÿช for the weekly shop once I get home and shower. ๐Ÿšฒ But first I will stop by the bicycle shop and see what is going on with my Marlin 6 bike. I hope it’s ready and somehow they didn’t call me or I lost the message somehow on my phone. Or at least find out when I will be able to take delivery, and if needed test ride the Marlin 5 bike in my size and figure out where else I can order the Marlin 6. I have a fairly long grocery list, as I only got a few things at Price Chopper last week. This week I want to shop at Walmart as there is certain things Walmart only has or at least has at a price I’m willing to spend. ๐Ÿ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:32 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 9:05 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:49 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 81 degrees. The dew point will be 72 degrees. The heat index around sunset will be 71. โ›ฑ There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 27 seconds over yesterday.

This afternoon I’m keeping open. ๐Ÿ“š The library is a good place to cool off but I’ve also thought about taking a drive up to Guilderland to check out some thrift stores to see if I can get some clothes that now fit me at a reasonable price. ๐Ÿ‘– I don’t want to spend too much as I don’t know what my final weight will end up being, though I’m quite committed at this point to healthy eating, ๐Ÿฅฆ and I think I have a plan that will let me continue being the healthy weight I now am. ๐Ÿ’ช Yet, I am constantly reminded of the temptations and how hard it is to be healthy with peer pressure. ๐Ÿฐ But at least I live single and don’t have a TV so I don’t have quite as much pressure as some folks do. Camping without junk food is hard but I’m learning how to make that quite delicious minus the junk, which I no longer buy. Then maybe go to the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ or visit John Wolcott. ๐Ÿ‘ด It would be a surprise visit as I hadn’t planned it. Alternatively, if I get the bicycle today, ๐Ÿšฒ ride out to Voorheesville.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 72 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 6pm. South wind around 7 mph. Not good sleeping. Very much lay by the fan all night long, sweating kind of night. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1946.

Then I want to soak the red kidney beans ๐Ÿฝ and if I can find space the chickpeas for cooking tomorrow. I want to get lemons ๐Ÿ‹ and try again at making hummus, this time putting the ingredients together correctly and pulverizing the chickpeas better. That said, I like chickpeas in with my lunch roasted, or roasted mixed with blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and walnuts. I’ve gotten into cooking, though not in the 10,000 ingredient perfectly portioned fatty-sugar-salty cooking recipe ways popularly promoted on the color television and internet forums. ๐Ÿ“บ If it needs a recipe, in my book, it’s not worth cooking. I am also going to get stevia to make lemonade, minus the sugar and calories, and maybe plain Gelatin to make lemon or other fruit jellos using frozen fruit ๐Ÿ“, the food processor, and some stevia. I have an orange juice squeezer I can use on the lemons and run through the food processor to recover not only the lemon juice but the all important fiber for health. Can’t under estimate the importance of lots of fiber in one’s diet. Americans don’t eat enough fiber, period. Just looking for something cold and sweet without tons of calories, besides my now favorite plain, no-fat Greek yougurt with frozen fruit (or fresh fruit up at camp).

On this day in 1959, the Steel Strike of 1959 gets underway, forcing contractors to either import steel or delay construction projects. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ท Many chose to import lower-cost steel, with the result being the US Steel industry never recovering. Demand was strong with the interstate highway program but with inflation and the winding down of the peak road construction in the 1970s, a lot of the outdated American mills would be shut down for good.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Work Like a Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:42 pm. Plunge into darkness time of the year as September approached. Always happens that way. On that day in 2022, we had hot and humid weather, it was partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 93 and 71 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1955.

Memorial Day Weekend Hike to Bourne and Stratton Ponds.

Last year during Memorial Day Weekend, I hiked back to Bourne Pond and Stratton Pond via the Bourne – Stratton Pond Trail and Branch Pond Road.

 Entering The Lye Brook Wilderness

The trail between those two ponds is somewhat lightly traveled, a bit overgrown and in one spot challenging to follow, but has some beautiful views.

 Pond Along The Windhall River

One of the challenges is crossing the Windhall River, but up a ways from the main trail, rocks have been placed to ease with crossing.

 Windhall River Crossing

Lots of deer and moose poop could be seen along the way.

Shit Ton Of Moose Shit On Lye Brook Trail

Being spring time, there was Columbine to be seen along the trail.

 Columbine

As you reach Stratton Pond, you follow the Stratton Pond outflow, a pretty but buggy little stream.

 Stratton Pond Outflow

Stratton Pond is quite a nice little pond.

 Stratton Pond

While Bourne Pond isn’t quite as nice, it is very popular with campers during the holiday weekend.

Bourne Pond sure is scenic

After my hike, I was happy to get back to camp.

 Weekend Started Out Quite Nice

Splash guards and the outhouse

Careful, the new outhouses
on Pisceo-Powley Road
lack urine splash guards !

Outhouse Along NY 28/Boreas Camping Area

If you sitting on the outhouse at Pisceo-Powley Road, taking a poop you might also want to pee. But be careful, if you pee into the outhouse don’t hit the front wall of the privy with urine or your legs may get pee on them. There is no sheet metal or plastic to protect the front or the privy hole from urine, so in some cases it will leak out and hit your legs. It’s probably not good for the life span of the outhouse either as urine will encourage rotting of the wood.

July 8, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Wet Thursday. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Next Thursday is Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚. Well, moo as you chew your cud. Rain showers and 63 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Might have heard a clap of thunder โ›ˆ๏ธ earlier. Calm wind. The dew point is 62 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 8 pm.

I decided to catch the earlier bus ๐Ÿš downtown, as it’s kind of a rainy morning. ๐Ÿšฝ Landlord called and asked me to conserve water as he’s having trouble with the sewer lateral again, although I did take a 30 second shower before work ๐Ÿšฟ and decided I had to flush the toilet once because I didn’t want poop to be rotting in the toilet all day. It flushed fine when I did it this morning, but over the weekend I noticed the flushing was slow so I stopped throwing toilet paper in the bowl and used the plunger once or twice. Didn’t seem like a serious problem in my unit, but maybe downstream. I always wonder if it’s better to toss toilet paper in the toilet or wastebasket — probably if I had my own land unless I was on sewer, I’d probably keep a wastebasket next to toilet and do it like the Mexicans do — toss it and burn it with the other paper trash. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Hopefully my neighbor’s bathroom, downgrade, isn’t filling up with shit. ๐Ÿ’ฉ One time there was a plumbing back up and it flooded all the way back to my unit. It seems like my building had a lot of problems but I guess it’s a rental and it’s cheap. I do have to wonder with the pandemic or the landlord will sell out and rent go up but at least my lease is good through May 1st and then I can make alternate plans if necessary. At some point I should buy my own property, but then I’d have to maintain it, and that probably would mean I’d have to be a commuter and I couldn’t have the ease of taking the bus to work. ๐ŸšŒ

When I get into the office, I am going to do laps in the Plaza until 9 AM. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธNot raining hard now and maybe if it’s not raining much when I get downtown I’ll walk inside, otherwise I will walk outside and get some fresh air. The past few days at lunch time I’ve been doing laps in the plaza, because it’s been too hot to walk outside. That said, I got soaked yesterday running from the LOB to Smith Building after my afternoon walk. It was wet. ๐ŸŒง And then when I had a rain coat waiting for  the bus yesterday, there was no rain.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 74 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 27th. Maximum dew point of 70 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.8° from the due south horizon (-1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:54 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 8pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 68 degrees at 3am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It was very sticky. It got down to 73 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1963.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 64 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

I have my eye doctor’s appointment tomorrow, ๐Ÿ‘€ after which I will head up to Piseco-Powley Road for the weekend. Probably stay there through early Monday morning, then I’ll drive up to Spectulator and work for there until Tuesday. ๐Ÿ• Then Tuesday after work I’ll drive back home, stopping at the Guilderland Planning Board Meeting to raise concerns about another proposed development in Albany Pine Bush. ๐ŸŒฒ That said, it’s nice to take another real-weekend off, which I plan to be off the grid, do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ, reading, and no internet use, as I won’t have service up north. Also thinking of taking another long weekend the following weekend if it’s decent, ๐Ÿ“ด again with the phone off.

As previously noted, next Thursday is Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 8:31 pm with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 86 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1997.

May 27, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. โ˜บ Nice morning, getting closer to the weekend. Heading downtown in a bit after my morning walk. Four weeks to Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• . Mostly sunny and 63 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees.

Decided to go for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป early this morning at seven o’clock just because I wanted to walk on such a nice morning before I take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ and catch the local downtown. ๐ŸšIf the express bus stop was back, I’d probably call that my walk and be done. But it’s not back yet. I was talking to a bunch of regular 719 riders and they miss the service too but once again riding the 5:15 neither the reduced local bus service crowded or highway congestion wasn’t bad at all. ๐Ÿš I think a lot of people are still either doing the hybrid model or full remote.

It is a nice morning, too bad it’s an office ๐Ÿข day. But as that Cattaraugus County farm I follow on the YouTube always, I can’t control my day but I can my attitude. And I bet he doesn’t have to pay the big bucks to see his analyst, as he has cows to poop ๐Ÿ’ฉ on him while milking ๐Ÿฎ and soak him with his wet tongue. I am glad that I got an early enough start to do my walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and hear the Morning Dove ๐Ÿ•Š and the many Red Wing Blackbirds. I kind of like having the unlimited data on the bus ๐Ÿš as that movie I was watching on the way home about rebuilding an old 1940s manure spreader certainly passed the time and it’s interesting how they used to build old farm equipment and how at least on the farm not everything is a throw away society. ๐Ÿ—‘

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 19th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 7am. Northwest wind around 11 mph. So much nicer than yesterday. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.7° from the due south horizon (-2.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:41 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 8:56 pm, which is 53 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:40 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 62 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 44 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 4th. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph becoming north after midnight. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1994.

Memorial Day Weekend looks increasingly cold, cloudy and rainy. ๐ŸŒฆ Saturday, a chance of rain, mainly before 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Brr, that’s cold for April. And it’s almost June. Northeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Maximum dew point of 40 at 7pm. Maybe a little better up north sunshine wise, but very cold. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

I think I am going to stay in town this Memorial Day Weekend ๐Ÿก as rent is due this week, money is quite tight and frankly the weather doesn’t look great. I haven’t hiked out to Five Rivers in a few weeks and it would interesting to see how the spring birds ๐Ÿฆ have changed as migration is winding down and summer birds are out. I feel like after the heavy rain on Friday things might be muddy but a good time for wildlife observation. I’m hoping for warm weather come June at any rate for visiting the Potholers ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ. Rather save gas until then. โ›ฝ I am thinking I might also work downtown in the office tomorrow — mainly because it’s going to be a cold and rainy day, they want us in the office more, and to save data. I know they want us in the office more, and the two days I am currently assigned is  more of a minimum then a maximum. I’ll have to think about it more as the day progresses.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2020, we had humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.
