February 9, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Cloudy and 41 degrees in Delmar for the evening walk. โ˜๏ธ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 30 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Kind of chilly this evening with the wind ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ but I’m out walking because that’s what I do in the evening. One of my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ is a bit irritated and I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด as I didn’t sleep well last night as I was a bit bothered by the news of Ward Stone’s passing. The high cost of politics. I think it’s better to focus on making money ๐Ÿ’ต and looking the other way as your community is going to shit.

Tonight will rain likely before 10pm, then a chance of showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 6pm. 26 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. South wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

Somebody brought in doughnuts ๐Ÿฉ to work today and I walked right on by. Sugar is ducking poison โ˜  I told myself and walked on by. I don’t need the free food, I’m not starving. Having that bowl of oranges, apples and bananas in my office really helps. ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŒ I eat a couple throughout the day whenever I’m hungry and I have a lot more energy. And if turns out it’s actually cheaper than eating bigger meals. ๐Ÿด Pasta, frozen chicken, sauce seems cheap – if you buy in bulk but it’s not if you end up eating a ton of it, ignoring the health impacts. But if you’re eating fruits and vegetables all day long ๐Ÿฅฆ you feel far less hungry. ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿผ

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 84% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:21 pm. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Saturday, February 25. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:32 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:02 am in the east-southeast (110ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 4 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 15 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:42 am with sun in the east-southeast (117ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over last night.

Today I found they are extending the 519 bus to Voorheesville. ๐Ÿš Kind of happy ๐Ÿ˜Š about being able to catch the express in front of my apartment as it makes for an easier commute on session days or bad weather when I don’t want to necessarily walk down to the express.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 48 degrees at 10am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 22nd. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. A year ago, we had snow in the morning, which became snow by afternoon. The high last year was 25 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1955. 4.0 inches of snow fell back in 1892.โ„

Saturday I’m thinking of sanding and painting that rust spot on my passenger door of my truck. Figure arrest the rust the best I can while I still can. ๐Ÿ›ป๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ And maybe do an early morning walk ๐Ÿšถ down to Norman’s Kills Falls.

In four weeks on March 9 the sun will be setting in the west (265ยฐ) at 5:55 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 12 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 50 and 27 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 24 degrees. The record high of 81 degrees was set back in 2016.

Snowmobile Trail Climbs Henry Hill

February 1, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Mostly clear and 23 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Cold evening for the walk ๐Ÿšถ but actually pretty normal for winter but after the January that was it feels even colder but truth is that I’m just not used to it. But by next week things will be pushing 50 again. ๐Ÿข Ever since I stepped out of the office this evening it was so cold out, even though I feel comfortable inside as I turned on the space heater then the electric blanket.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 17 degrees at 12am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 11th. Maximum wind chill around 15 at 8pm; West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming south after midnight. In 2022, we had snow in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1961.

I had a rough day ๐Ÿ˜• though I realize my problems are all inside my head. It’s a tough world out there, I have to do the best I can to navigate it and invest in my own future ๐Ÿ”ฎ and not take on other people’s problems. A lot of things are unfair and I often think I’m getting a raw deal ๐Ÿค but I have it a lot better off then many people.

I watched somebody run a stopped school ๐Ÿšธ bus this morning and then I found out that the state tightened who could free file this year, so I’m left studying my options for how to file my taxes. ๐Ÿ“‚ Maybe I’ll do paper ๐Ÿ“„. But it made me angry ๐Ÿ˜ก especially after hearing how state leaders want to expand benefits for migrants. I think our state should encourage immigration but people should be working and encouraged to open businesses. Taxed enough already, especially when I’ve worked so hard and the government is handing out freebies left and right.

I never understood the anger ๐Ÿ’ข of my dairy farming friend over government welfare benefits to the poor but when you work your ass off at 5 am, ๐Ÿฎ and pay a shit ton of taxes on your land, you can understand the anger. Farms pay remarkably high taxes in New York even after all the programs. I know the feeling.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 88% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the east-southeast (107°) at an altitude of 58° from the horizon, some 249,989 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 10th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ.

The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 5. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:41 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:11 am in the east-southeast (113°) and last for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 2 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:52 am with sun in the east-southeast (120°). Tonight will have 13 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 22 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. South wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 27 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1981. 11.9 inches of snow fell back in 2015.โ„

The truth is I’m just bitter about the cold today. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ The sun was nice but it was just such a nasty reminder about winter. I really want to get away from the long cold winters of New York but everything just takes so much longer financially and on my life then I would hope. I keep saving for a better tomorrow but I always feel like I’m treading on thin ice, if not falling through the ice gasping ๐Ÿ˜ฒ for air. Somehow at age 40 I thought I would be farther along in life, be more financially secure and have my own land ๐Ÿšœ. I just work so hard, and it’s such a slap in the face. But I’ll keep pushing, as I understand the power of compounding.

In four weeks on March 1 the sun will be setting in the west (261°) at 5:45 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 41 and 17 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 22 degrees. The record high of 66 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead, March ๐ŸŒจ is a month away, Ides of March โœ is in 6 weeks, April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก is in 2 months, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 3 months, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 14 weeks, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 15 weeks, 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 months, June ๐Ÿน is in 4 months, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 20 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 5 months, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 22 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 22 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 6 months, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 30 weeks, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 7 months, September ๐ŸŽ is in 7 months, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿญ is in 7 months, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 34 weeks, October ๐ŸŽƒ is in 8 months, Last Sunset After 6:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 35 weeks, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 9 months, November ๐Ÿฅง is in 9 months, Day After Election Day ๐Ÿ›€ is in 40 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 10 months and Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is in 44 weeks.

Irene Damage

June 30, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Where did June go? I know Trump supporters are holding their breath, hoping that in a month massive fraud will be uncovered and Trump will be reinstated as president. I’m guessing that is probably rather unlikely. Maybe 2024. Two weeks to National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ. With the heat, sleeping buck naked or at least in your boxers is recommended. Partly sunny and 76 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. The dew point is 71 degrees. The muggy weather ends Saturday around 3 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

The air conditioning feels nice on the bus ๐Ÿš, although at this point I’m getting used to the heat and humidity. It’s hard for me to remember such a long stretch of weather with such high dew points and humidity, I feel you have to go back to around 2012 or 2013. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ Yesterday I went to the store and got lots of frozen fruit ๐Ÿ“ and then in the evening went down to the library. It’s nice things are getting back to normal. That said, I have mixed feelings about working in the office more. ๐Ÿ’ป The air conditioning is nice but it sure is a lot more flexible to work remotely especially from the Adirondacks.

Today will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 89 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 10am. Heat index values as high as 95. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1964.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.5° from the due south horizon (-0.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look out for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 36 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a slight chance of showers between 2am and 3am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3am. Mostly cloudy , with a low of 70 degrees at 3am. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 6pm. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2020, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1978.

On this day in 1971, Ohio ratifies the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, reducing the voting age to 18, thereby putting the amendment into effect. ๐Ÿ“œ โŽ Also in 1934, The Night of the Long Knives, Adolf Hitler’s violent purge of his political rivals in Germany, takes place. ๐Ÿ—ก Fortunately, we only have obnoxious rhetoric to that impact in our country today.

The weekend forecast is improving. ๐ŸŒž Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 61 at 10am. Sunday, independence Day, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Monday when the holiday is observed, looking at a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

Do I end up going up to the Adirondacks after all? ๐Ÿ• It’s an interesting question for sure. I might end up staying up north through Tuesday then, and working up in Speculator with the forecast improving. Do I do Piseco-Powley Road? Or somewhere else. The Green Mountains are another possiblity, or I am considering tent camping somewhere up in the woods in Schoharie. There are many options for sure, although I do have to worry about sites going quickly on Friday.

Still chewing over what I am going to do about my counseling appointment next week, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš•๏ธ but I’m tempted to cancel it and postpone indefinitely as I want to do other things at this point. I think I’ve spent enough money on this at this point. ๐Ÿ’ธ I do have to be in town next week on Friday morning though for my eye appointment ๐Ÿ‘€ but then I can decide what I want to do for the balance of the day — I might take the afternoon off if I want to head out of town.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ when the sun will be setting at 8:31 pm with dusk at 9:05 pm. On that day in 2020, we had mostly sunny skies , thunderstorm and temperatures between 84 and 67 degrees. You know, general summer weather. Etc. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1995.

 Paddling Along

June 29, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Three weeks to Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš. Sunny and 79 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. The dew point is 73 degrees. The muggy weather ends Sunday around 3 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

Going to be another hot and humid day. ๐Ÿ– Seems like lately we’ve been stuck in a very hot and humid pattern although it will turn cold and rainy for the Independence Day Weekend. I decided though I’m getting used to the heat now, so I will work from home today. ๐Ÿ  This way, I can run at lunchtime to the store and get groceries, and then maybe the hottest part of the day I can work in the library, now that it’s fully re-opened for mask less use. ๐Ÿ˜ท That said, it was good I was in the office yesterday. Some things are best done in on the office and there is always pressure to get more hours in the office as the pandemic winds down. ๐Ÿข

Today will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Sunny and hot ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 92 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 73 at 8am. Heat index values as high as 101. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1944.

I think after mid-morning I might take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ then run to Wally World at lunch time to get some food and supplies. ๐Ÿ” That will give me an opportunity to cool down in the truck, and then get what I need. I like doing that mid-day as there is less crowds, and it’s faster in and out. Then I will go to the library for the balance of the day to work and maybe play on the Internet. They have brought back the desks there and the air conditioning should be nice and cool there. It was fine going downtown yesterday, but

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.6° from the due south horizon (-0.2° vs. 6/21)The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 28 seconds with dusk around 9:12 pm, which is 4 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look ut for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 84 degrees. The dew point will be 73 degrees. The heat index around sunset will be 78. โ›ฑ There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Partly cloudy , with a low of 72 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 73 at 6pm. Light southeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1938.

On this day in 2006, in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld the U.S. Supreme Court ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš–๏ธ rules that President George W. Bush’s plan to try Guantanamo Bay detainees in military tribunals violates U.S. and international law. That seems like such a blast form the past at this point. It is after all 15 years ago. That said, I kind of like thinking thoughts about days gone by when we lived in a simpler world.

Been playing with Sheepshaver and my old Mac OS 8 files the past few days, going back to a time in my life that now seems so long ago. ๐Ÿค– While Mac OS 8 had it’s issues, there was a lot to like about it compared to more contemporary computers. That said, the nice thing about Linux and XFCE Window Manager is things rarely if ever change, and most of the changes are improvements rather then big changes in interfaces unlike commercial operating systems like Mac OS X and Windows 11. You can say XFCE is old but it’s fast and stable.

I updated to the latest version of QGIS — 3.20 yesterday, ๐Ÿ—บ which is actually isn’t the official release but the release candidate. But it seems to be pretty stable. I just wish they would fix the bugs with the ARCMap Rest Services, namely the inability to automatically update the bounding box of a FeatureService and the ability to set queries. Neither seems like it would be difficult to implement, as the commands are pretty much straightforward to do manually, but it should be built in. I am tempted to download to the source code, and take a crack at it — can’t be that difficult and I’ve been learning Qt API — but I have never written a patch much less submitted it. I am sure it will get fixed eventually by somebody who knows more then I do patches it.

Independence Weekend still looks pretty unstable and cold. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐ŸŽ† Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 62 at 10am. Sunday, Independence Day, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Monday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Kind of like Memorial Day Weekend. Apparently God doesn’t like holidays this year. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

I admit I will probably be staying in town this weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ Kind of sucks but so be it. I really was hoping for nicer weather. I am probably going to do the Nature Bus next weekend, and hammock up at Thacher Park again with a book. Maybe get some stuff out of the library to read, this time I’ll put the book in a plastic bag to make sure it doesn’t get wet. ๐Ÿ“• I probably won’t do Thompson’s Lake this time, just a little hiking and hammock time, and not in the tick filled fields of the OSI parcel.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš when the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 87 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1991.

June 27, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. It looks like Independence Day Weekend is trending upwards, although Saturday might still be rainy. I am thinking Piseco-Powley Road but I could change my mind. But first, it’s going to be hot.

This morning is partly cloudy and 78 degrees, here in Delmar. โ›… And rising quickly. There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 71 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around 7 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“ Already pretty hot and sticky, it was pretty though sleeping last night, and I only expect it to get warmer as the day progresses.

It’s been a long while since we’ve had such oppressive humidity, ๐Ÿ˜… I would say it’s been a few years since we’ve had such a warm spell. Lots of heat in recent years, but relatively few days with dew points in the 70s in Albany area.

Yesterday was a nice day up at Thacher Park, Thompson’s Lake and Five Rivers, ๐Ÿ˜… but I tell you by the end of day it was real humid. Although I guess there isn’t much you can do about. I am glad I brought my portable battery backup, as I could use my phone all day for whatever. Worked out well.

Today will be mostly sunny and hot ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 91 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 9am. Heat index values as high as 95. South wind 8 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1941.

This afternoon I am going to head out to my parents house. ๐ŸŽฃ I thought about going to out to Partridge Run to fish but with the heat there isn’t going to be a lot of fish biting I don’t think. I might go to Lawson’s Lake. My parents said I could spend the night in my truck, which hopefully with the fan will be cooler then at home.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.7° from the due south horizon (-0.1° vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (304°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:12 pm, which is earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 85 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 72 degrees at 5am. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 1am. South wind 6 to 9 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became haze by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1970. That ain’t going to be good for sleep, but then again, neither was last night.

On this day in 1985, U.S. Route 66 is officially removed from the United States Highway System. You could no longer get you’re kicks on Route 66 because everybody was taking I-40 and I-44 through the heartland of America. ๐Ÿ›ฃ Times changed, although I bet 35 years later, they had wished they had kept the old designation on various state and county highways for tourist purposes — indeed some states have started signing Historic Route 66, through tourist traps and old routings of the US Highway.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. Already will have lost an minute in the evening. On that day in 2020, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 89 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 104 back in 1911.

June 26, 2021 10 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Four weeks to Strugeon Moon ๐ŸŒ• . Partly cloudy and 74 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a south breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 67 degrees. The skies will clear around 8 pm.

Hot day with the humidity ๐Ÿ˜ฐ although truth be told, tomorrow will be even hotter. Waiting for the bus ๐Ÿš up to Thacher Park after walking ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป out to Five Rivers. ๐Ÿฆ. ๐Ÿ˜ท Not wearing the mask much lately, I forgot it and had to run home. I can’t believe how hot it is out already.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 84 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 10am. South wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1952.

The plan is to catch the next bus ๐Ÿš to Thacher Park ๐Ÿž and then go for a, walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป up to Thompsons Lake, swim and cool off ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ – already getting hot. Then back to Thacher Park and lay back in the hammock. A lot of people already at Five Rivers, I like the quiet – maybe it will be quieter ๐Ÿคซ in the evening when all the kids ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿป go home for dinner. Probably do an evening walk there too.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (304ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 28 seconds with dusk around 9:12 pm, which is 2 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 21 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 71 degrees at 4am. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 11pm. South wind 10 to 13 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1970.

I suspect that this will be a tough night for sleeping ๐Ÿ˜ด so I’ll have to use the fan although Sunday and Monday will worse. I might end up going to the office ๐Ÿข the first half of the week just to beat the heat and get more in person hours in to keep the other directors happy ๐Ÿ˜Š. So much pressure to get people back in the office now that COVID is over ๐Ÿ˜ท ๐Ÿ‘พ ๐Ÿ’‰ but the thing is everybody likes remote work ๐Ÿ’ป and things are getting done whether it’s from camp or a bedroom. ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป It falls on deaf ears.

Last night was cooler ๐Ÿ˜Ž but I still needed the fan. โš› I was out at the Town Park last night watching the wildlife and noticing that the deer ๐ŸฆŒ already starting to get good sized numbs as their antlers grow in. Autumn is rapidly approaching. All the farms are cutting hay ๐ŸŒพ, you can smell the manure being applied to the fields now as the first cutting get racked and baled.

On this day in 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy gave his “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech, ๐ŸŽค underlining the support of the United States for democratic West Germany shortly after Soviet-supported East Germany erected the Berlin Wall. ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Also, The Universal Product Code is scanned for the first time in 1974 to sell a package of Wrigley’s chewing gum at the Marsh Supermarket in Troy, Ohio. ๐Ÿฌ

Yesterday was my counseling session and it went well, ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธand I was feeling great after it until I realized how it was kind of a bummer. I really don’t like how my counselor keeps telling me that my problems are silly, and that because I’m not doing anything likely to cause significant harm โš  I shouldn’t worry so much about my pyromanania. ๐Ÿ”ฅ You want to move out to the country, have a burn barrel ๐Ÿ›ข, livestock ๐Ÿฎ, four wheelers ๐Ÿ๏ธand lots of guns ๐Ÿ”ซ more power to you. Liking fire or being a conservative doesn’t make you mentally ill. Not harming any one, if your safe and not smoking out your neighbors.

I guess he’s right but I wanted to be pressured to have my views challenged and change. ๐Ÿ’ญ I guess ethically he can’t tell me to be an urban liberal Democrat who drives a Prisus, ๐Ÿš˜ doesn’t eat meat ๐Ÿฅฉ, advocates for gun control ๐Ÿ”ซ, and recycles rather than burns his garbage โ™ป. I so wanted to be told I was terribly wrong, but I guess that’s not what a he can do. But I wish he would listen to me more and talk less. ๐Ÿ”• While I get that I’m paying for his advice I also feel that he should listen more and talk less.

He seems to want to move on to discussing my sometimes contrarian attitude ๐Ÿ™„ but at this point I don’t know how much farther I want to continue. I’m $125 in the hole ๐Ÿ•ณ with co-pay now, and I feel like I’ve discussed all my deepist secrets. ๐Ÿคซ I’ve learned some things, reevaluated parts of my life. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŒพ Started to think about girl friends and settling down a bit. I’ve learned additional techniques to deal with my anxiety ๐Ÿ˜ฏ and as winter became summer. ๐Ÿ– I think I want to cancel my next session and reevaluate come autumn although I’ve scheduled an appointment a week from Friday but I could cancel as I’d rather be in the Adirondacks.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Strugeon Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:24 pm with dusk at 8:56 pm. On that day in 2020, we had humid, partly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1941.

June 25, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Thank God, it’s been a long week, especially since it’s such a pain without the express bus ๐Ÿš in the evenings. Three weeks to Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ†. Mostly sunny and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees. One more cool day before the sweltering weather of next week.

A nice morning, but I didn’t get as early of a start as I probably should have. ๐Ÿ˜ด I had some trouble with a contact lens last night ๐Ÿ‘€ and my eyes were kind of irritated but I got up and going late. But the pancakes ๐Ÿฅž and coffee helped โ˜• but based on the late hour, I decided to take a nature walk around the Swift Wetland Preserve ๐Ÿธ rather then go for a longer hike out around the High School like I do most mornings. It was kind of a neat hike though, watching a cat bird and weasel duke it out, probably over some eggs in the Cat Bird’s nest. ๐Ÿฟ

It was a quiet day yesterday in the office ๐Ÿข and I didn’t mind it much. It was kind of busy preparing a project but my office is still downstairs while the unit upstairs that I supervise, so with the split shift with remote work ๐Ÿ’ป part time it’s really quiet. ๐Ÿคซ I do like being in the office part time. But alas the pandemic is over ๐Ÿ˜ท ๐Ÿ‘พ ๐Ÿ’‰ and it won’t be long before I’m back in the office a lot more. I went down to the park and read ๐Ÿ“– until nine o’clock and it was pretty dark out. ๐Ÿฆ‡ Saw a lot of bats which is good because their populations have been so decimated by the White Nose Infection and they eat a shit ton of bugs.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 23rd. Maximum dew point of 55 at 5pm. South wind 3 to 8 mph. This afternoon I have my counseling session ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธ and I am really not looking forward to it, as I realize that I am not ready to face some hard truth, but it’s scheduled and on the calendar ๐Ÿ—“ and I have to attend. I’m doing it for a better tomorrow no matter how unpleasant it is as I confront thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ I don’t want to confront but I really need to. I’ve done my homework ๐Ÿ“ and I’m an adult so I’ll get it done. I’m at a point where I need to continue on, like it or not. It’s for a better tomorrow I tell myself. Change is good.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 64 degrees at 3am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 5am. South wind around 7 mph. On this day in 1998, in Clinton v. City of New York, the United States Supreme Court decides that the Line Item Veto Act of 1996 is unconstitutional. โŽ Congress can not give the President the power to strike appropriations that it has granted, despite it being the appropriator. New York City challenged the decision after President Clinton knocked off a few of it’s line item appropriations added by a local congressman.
