Good evening! Clear and 58 degrees for evening walk in Delmar, NY. 🌃 There is a south breeze at 11 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 41 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Friday around 4 pm. ☃️

Not a half bad evening for February. 🌟 The skies are full of stars and it’s quite mild. It was nice having the windows open today and enjoying some fresh air before it gets cold again after the rain tomorrow. ☔ Then cold come Friday but bouncing back to normal by the weekend. After my walk I’ll sit out back until nine. 🛏 Going to close my windows then bed time.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. 23 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. South wind 7 to 11 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Too good to be true, won’t last. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became mist by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1943.

Still enjoying the almost door to door service 🚏of the express Voorheesville bus. 🚍 Great on session days but also like tomorrow evening when it rains. ☔ That said, I do worry about not getting in as many steps 👣 without walking to the Park and Ride but on nice days I still can. I was happy 😊 to see somebody on the bus today actually coming from Voorheesville as I know the bus I take isn’t as popular as earlier but I hope it doesn’t get canceled right away as long as there are other riders.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent 🌘 Moon with 22% illuminated. The Worm 🐛 Moon is on Friday, March 3. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:25 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:54 am in the east-southeast (107°) and last for 3 minutes and 1 seconds.

It was a quiet 🤫 half of the day at work until a big project came in mid afternoon. Sometimes it’s so quiet and then so busy, 🖥 but when I have down time I try to use it well to analyze data, and learn new data science methods and sources of data. I’ve learned a lot of clever techniques to automate or at least speed up things at work. 👨‍⚖️ I might not be a PhD in data science but I’m learning some valuable techniques using R to mine a lot of value out of data.

Sunrise is one minute and 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:33 am with sun in the east-southeast (114°). Tonight will have 13 hours and 20 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over last night.

Today was such a nice day 🏢 but I was stuck in my office all day except when I went to the farmers market to get mushrooms 🍄 and did a short walk 🚶 on the Plaza. Got home and spent more time reading 📖 up about machine learning. 🤖 Too bad the weekend isn’t as good looking.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds 🌞 👉 🌥 , with a high of 55 degrees at 1pm. 19 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became mist by afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 2006. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1958.❄

I decided that I can do my state taxes on paper 📄 to avoid paying to file. There is a few different open source things to compute my federal taxes, and then once they are done the state is easy to do. I like paper in the sense it’s easier to carefully review. I feel like the online services you spit too much of your information into a black box 🗃 and it spits it back out and you don’t really know if it’s done right. I can compare to last year – forms are the same but the numbers 🔢 now are just slightly higher or maybe not if I reduced things down enough by retirement plan deductions.

In four weeks on March 15 the sun will be setting in the west (268°) at 7:02 pm (Daylight Savings Time),🌄 which is one hour, 34 minutes and 29 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had cold, mostly sunny and temperatures between 30 and 11 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 45 and 26 degrees. The record high of 72 degrees was set back in 2019.

Good Evening – November 9, 2021

Good evening! Nice evening camping up at Canaan Heights. 🌲🌲🌲

I’ve been enjoying being in the National Quiet Zone, although it’s nice to be not so cut off from the world. Really mild afternoon, I’ve been laying in my hammock since setting up camp earlier this afternoon.

Partly clear and 56 degrees at the Monongahela National Forest. There is a west breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 4 am. ☃️

I hiked the trail to the summit of Seneca Rocks and also drove up Spruce Knob, ⛰ both in the High Country of West Virginia today. I thought about going to Dolly Sods and camping up there, but with the strong, frigid on Spruce Knob, I decided that would be too cold. Plus I was tired of all that mountain driving, with all the hairpin turns and steep descends, carefully driven in first or second gear, to keep from burning up the brakes too much. 🗻

My good digital camera’s battery is dead 🔋 and the charger isn’t working right. That’s kind of a bummer because it means I won’t be able to take as good, sharp photos with my cellphone camera. 📸 But I have done enough photography over the years, that I can make it work, although I’m not sure how good it will be with the large format pictures on my blog.

I am a bit concerned about an occasional squeak of what I think is a wheel bearing on the truck. ⚫ I might head back north to Cumberland to get that checked tomorrow or if it seems okay, start heading back towards Pennsylvania and New York. I hate to cut my vacation short but I’d rather have it fixed this week rather then having to rent a car or stay in a hotel over the weekend, while I wait for it to be fixed. If it is a wheel bearing, I doubt I’ll be able to make it home. Obnoxious that is had to happen during vacation though.

I really do love West Virginia though. 😍 I might alternatively stay another night here through Thursday, so I can explore more of the Canaan Heights. If I’m not putting  miles on the truck, it shouldn’t make anything worse. I don’t think I want to push my luck too much though, as I don’t know how long that wheel bearing will hold out, and I would much prefer to have it fixed while I’m home and not paying for a hotel or rental car. Stuff happens, and sometimes as the most inconvenient times.

Even if this trip is cut short, there is always tomorrow. 🤔 I could come back to West Virginia next year or maybe that year after that. I think though I would do it either earlier in October or maybe during the summer when the days are longer. I’ve though about a summer trip to West Virginia but I feel like it might be really hot, 💦 and possibly crowded, 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 especially around Dolly Sods.

June 20, 2021 Evening

Good evening! Partly clear and 82 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 62 degrees. Back home again, as John Denver once sung. 🎶 Remarkably hot, especially now that I am back home after having a nice Sunday dinner at the folks house. 👕 Slowly unpacking my gear from camping, taking steps to drink and cool down.

Well, happy summer folks. ☺ The next ten weeks through Labor Day Weekend are considered real summer when the state parks pools are open and the days are relatively long. 🏖 Nice hot summer days to spend at the pool or swimming hole. 🏊🏻‍♂️ Do some fishing 🎣 late into the night.

It was a beautiful trip back across the Mohawk Valley and through the Schoharie Valley. Everything was very green and lush.  It was a nice weekend up north, although Friday night was very wet. ☔ It drizzled for a while and then when I went for a good walk up to the Potholers it poured and I got completely soaked. 💦 It was decent all three days up north although I have to say that today was the best of the week. That said, much too short. 🐇 Time flies, especially when it’s rare that I am not out of town for four or more nights, in the era of remote work. But I decided I should come home tonight, because I need to at minimum move to a new campsite.

It was three nights up in the wilderness, 🏕 camping up at House Pond, spending much of Friday during the day drinking, 🍺 reading, 📕 writing, ✍ and hanging down at the Swimming Hole by the House Pond Campsite. 🏊‍♀️ It was nice but the water was a bit cold to say the least. 🛶 Saturday, was kayaking from Stewart Landing up to Lily Lake. I didn’t go much into West Lake because I wanted to be close to back to Stewart Landing by 2 pm as they were threatening severe storms by afternoon, which never materialized. Instead, I spent the evening reading, and then down at the same swimming hole on the East Canada Creek. 🏊‍♀️ Most of Sunday was spent slowly taking down camp after a nice breakfast 🥞 then the majority of the day the Potholers. I forgot how much nicer the Potholers are with the flowing water and potholes compared to any ordinary swimming hole on a nice summer day. It’s good to be back there!

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 69 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 3am. South wind around 8 mph. Probably need the fan on all evening. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1970.

I thought about staying over the folks house, 👪 but I was tired and wanted to get home. It has been a nice weekend, but alas I should get ready for the work week and get my camping gear put away. I also want to get the volt meter out before dark, and try to figure out why the relay isn’t closing between the starting and accessory batteries when the engine is on or the solar is outputting enough to top off both batteries. 🔋 That was annoying that wasn’t working this weekend.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon with 81% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the southeast (139°) at an altitude of 26° from the horizon, some 226,818 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 9th. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Strawberry 🍓 Moon is on Thursday, June 24. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 28 seconds. Sunrise is 11 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 89 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. South wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1938.

Friday turned out to be a very late start heading north. 🚍 I decided not to drive downtown as I’m out of practice with parallel parking and I hate dealing with rush hour traffic. 🚙 So I took the bus home and packed the coolers but ended up having to run to the grocery store to get all the things I didn’t previously pack. But at least the nights are long, and I had plenty of time to get set up, gather some firewood 🔥 and get things going.

The relay that connects the alternator – starting battery 🔋 to the accessory batteries quit working on the way up to camp. Not sure if it’s the exciter wire that broke or the relay is seized. It was fine, I had lots of sun ☀ for the solar so all was good. I stopped on Friday to try to get figure out the issue but nothing obvious. I’ll test this evening or tomorrow with the volt meter. ⚡ It’s possible that the big old can relay failed from the occasional clatter of the relay when clouds appear on a sunny day, although I think I have mostly arrested that by adjusting settings on the voltage control. I am betting the wire is just broken.

In four weeks on July 18 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (300°) at 8:29 pm,🌄 which is 7 minutes and 24 seconds earlier then today. In 2020 on that day, we had hot and sunny weather with shallow fog in the morning and temperatures between 87 and 59 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 84 and 63 degrees. The record high of 100 degrees was set back in 1953.

By then, I hope to be on my summer vacation. 😎 I am thinking the Finger Lakes National Forest and the state parks circuit I normally do, finding new places to hike or explore. I kind of like that campsite I stayed at last year without cell service, because I find do a lot more reading and thinking if I’m camping somewhere without cell service, 🤫 the quiet with no Facebook quite nice. 📱 I admit I am a bit of social media addict, even if my own postings to social media are a bit more asinine as I hate all the creepy commercial advertising that follows you around the internet, especially the green schemes.

Looking ahead, Independence Day 🇺🇸 is Next Sunday, World Population Day 👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 is in 3 weeks, Ugly Truck Day 🚚 is a month away, August 🌻 is in 6 weeks, Buck Moon 🌕 is in 9 weeks, Halloween 🎃 is in 19 weeks, Average High is 50 🍂 is in 21 weeks, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone 🦌 is in 5 months, Repeal of Prohibition Day 🍺 is in 24 weeks, Cold Moon 🌕 is in 26 weeks and Boxing Day 🥊 is in 27 weeks.

 Yesterday On Lake Pleasant

August 13, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Clear and 72 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. 🌃 There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 58 degrees.

It was a nice day 👍 to explore part of the Finger Lakes I had never been to before. The Kueka Outlet Trail is pretty darn neat winding through a gorge past numerous ruins of old mills. 🏤 One thing that surprised me that there was enough water power to run all those mills – when I was there the water was flowing but hardly a torrent. It might be different in the spring or after a heavy rain storm ☔ – it’s been a pretty dry summer in the Finger Lakes although nothing like 2015.

Hiked 🚶🏽 from Penn Yan to Dresden a total of 13 miles round trip. While this is not a strenuous hike by any means – it’s a 200 feet ascent heading west over 6 1/2 miles it was still an all afternoon hike and I was tired 😴 with the heat. I did do a short walk around downtown Penn Yan 🏙 which still has a fairly intact main street then visited the village park overlooking the lake. Ironically, when you are at one of the tips or Keuka Lake you really don’t get that scenic of a vista as all you see is the tine of the fork 🍴and big hill in the center.

Came back and got ice at Dandy Mart. Forgot to buy coffee ☕ again for the morning. Spent a little time down at Clute Park but I was tired 💤 and didn’t want to drive to camp in the dark so I left before sunset 🌇. Came back and had hot dogs and beer 🌭🍺, I’m definitely ready for bed now.

I thought about hiking to Foster Pond but after a few beers 🍻 and all the walking 🚶🏽 I did today, I decided it’s not advisable. I’m just super tired. I find it hard to get as good of night sleep in the woods as I do at home, especially if I stay up late and then wake up when the sun ☀ is pouring in my window. ⬜

I have a bunch of pictures to upload 🗺️ but I’ll wait until tomorrow when I head into town. I wanted to process them a bit more on my phone before uploading. I also have some pictures I want to get off my dash cam to upload.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 64 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 60 at 1am. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1941.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent 🌘 Moon with 28% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 1:13 am, followed by dawn at 5:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:14 am in the east-northeast (69°) and last for 3 minutes and 4 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:53 am with sun in the east-northeast (76°). Tonight will have 10 hours and 3 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 87 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 9am. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1988.

Going to be another hot and sunny day tomorrow. 🏊🏻‍♂️ I think it would be a good day to spend one more day at the Watkins Glen State Park pool on a relatively quiet weekday. and maybe hike more of the Catharine Valley Rail Trail, maybe south of Montour Falls this time. 🚂 And maybe one last ice cream cone at Glen Dairy Bar. 🍦Saturday I will probably stay in the National Forest for social distancing purposes but I’m thinking of doing some fishing 🎣 and swimming of Caywood Point and maybe if it seems like the water is calm, paddling from Watkins Glen to Hector Point. Sunday I probably will hang out at camp for a while then maybe go for a hike around the rim of Taughannock and then head home around 1 pm, probably via NY 23.🛣️

It seems odd that this trip I haven’t visited the Taughannock Gorge so far 🕋 or Enfield Glen. While I like those places a lot they tend to be crowded and I have little interest in visiting any crowded places during the pandemic. I am trying to keep this trip simple and relaxing plus visiting new places in the Finger Lakes that I’ve not spent a lot of time in the past. Gorges are great but I am really truly hard to maintain social distancing. 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦While COVID-19 doesn’t have me hiding all the time in my home, I really try to avoid places where maintaining social distancing is impossible.🗣️

Before hiking today I sprayed heavily my hammock with another coat of Martin’s Permethrin. 🐜 Bugs haven’t been bad camping but I figured it’s a nice low humidity, non windy day so it should soak in good as some time in the future might be buggy again. Permethrin has a bit of a funny smell at first but it dissappears after airing out. 👃

In four weeks on September 10 the sun will be setting in the west (277°) at 7:25 pm,🌄 which is 45 minutes and 37 seconds earlier then today. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 77 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 54 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1931.

August 10, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Partly cloudy ☁️and 79 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. 🌲🌳 There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 68 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around 7 pm. 😓

I don’t think I would describe today as bad day, 😒but things didn’t quite go exactly to plan. While I did get a shower 🚿 in and about five minutes of swimming ⚡ it wasn’t the full day of swimming 🏊🏻‍♂️ I had planned. I was prepared for thunderstorms ⛈ in the evening but not the countless rumbles of thunder after 2 pm. I guess I can’t complain about the rain much – I didn’t get wet until very briefly at Clute Park 💧 and I was dry by the time I got back to camp.

I like the Watkins Glen State Park pool 🏊🏻‍♂️ a lot but this year is like no other. During the pandemic we are all living through I was really freaked out by the crowds at the entrance and the pool. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 While I’ve never been a real people person, crowds are scary during a pandemic. 👾Even parts of the trail – until I got west of the trail were kind of scary with the crowds. I tried to maintain my social distance and flip the mask over my face 😷 but sometimes it’s just scary. I want to enjoy my vacation in these most scary times, but I also don’t want to end up on a ventilator choking for life, all alone in a hospital 🏥.

I couldn’t get goggles anywhere in Watkins Glen 👀 so I guess I will have to do without. Hopefully my eyes won’t get too irritated from the pool chlorine. 👁️ That said after today’s experience I don’t expect to be spend a lot more time in the parks although I do like a good shower 🚿 or swim 🏊🏻‍♂️ while camping. I thought a Monday at the parks in August would be a heck of a lot quieter. It seems like everybody is craving outdoor recreation during the pandemic. 🏞 Or maybe it’s just I notice people and crowds a lot more during the pandemic. 😷 I can wear a mask and wash my hands 👐 good bit there is only so much I can do.

Glen Dairy Bar was good 🥤, ultimately I decided on a strawberry 🍓 slushy over ice cream. No complaints there, I could taste the pieces of strawberry in it. I am sure I’ll be back for more tomorrow. Thinking ice cream tomorrow. That banana 🍌 sundae I saw somebody have looked amazing. Of course with social distancing these days the lines look much larger but they were busy too with the hot weather. 🍨🍧🍦

Sat down by Seneca Lake for a while 🐼/strong>򎱡nd it was quite pleasant but a fair number of people around. Started to walk along the shoreline and the sky just opened up and started to pour. 🌧️ Ran back to my truck and by the time I got to Bennettsville the sky was clear. ☀ Go figure. It looks like they got pounded with rain just north of Elmira today. I wonder if there was flooding or storm damage down that way ?

Made up hot sausage paddy burgers 🍔 with American cheese which when the bun is well toasted and with some ketchup is quite the treat. I often also put red sauce on the patties but not this time as I decided to bring only one cooler so I have limited space for cold stuff. I actually like them better than beef burgers 🥩 but don’t tell a cow that. I also had a couple of beers 🍻to wash the day away.

I normally bring too coolers but last minute on Saturday I decided to leave one home to save space. 🗃 I am already regretting that decision as it limits meal choices. 🍴 In the early spring or late fall one cooler is fine but this time of year I like to have two so I can store both cold and cool foods. But I get tired of always buying so much ice and having to move and clean with two coolers all the time. ❄ Ice takes up a lot of space but true automotive refrigerators use a lot of electricity expensive and aren’t real energy efficient. ⚡

Tonight will become mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 69 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at pm. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1941.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter 🌗 Moon with 56% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:50 pm. The Strugeon 🐡 Moon is on Monday, August 24. The darkest hour is at 1:14 am, followed by dawn at 5:40 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:11 am in the east-northeast (68°) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:50 am with sun in the east-northeast (75°). Tonight will have 9 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Sunny and hot 🌞, with a high of 93 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 10am. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1944.

Tomorrow planning on another early start, 🌅 I think first heading for a good swim 🏊🏻‍♂️ at the Watkins Glen State Park Pool then paddling from the new boat 🛥 launch just east of Clute Park. Lake was very placid today and I expect the same tomorrow but I’m more concerned about thunderstorms tomorrow. ⛈ I got some nice muffins to have with my coffee ☕ tomorrow morning.

Heading to bed 🛏 early so I can get up early. Between the clouds 🌥 and the fact I was tired 😴 decided against a hike to Foster Pond tonight. Still a ton of people camping up there tonight. I came out here a large part for that great pool I’ll be disappointed if I can’t have some good fun in the sun tomorrow.

In four weeks on September 7 the sun will be setting in the west (278°) at 7:30 pm,🌄 which is 44 minutes and 36 seconds earlier then today. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 73 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1945. Just another reminder that autumn is coming.

Hot but nice morning

June 26, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Or is it morning? I think the clock flipped over at midnight. Partly cloudy and 59 degrees at the Jones Pond. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 50 degrees.

Just got back from a midnight paddle on Jones Pond. 🚣 Nice evening, mild but not sticky. By the time I got off the lake though more clouds were pushing in. 🔥 After a nice campfire I drowned the fire and made sure it was out cold before bed because it’s been so dry out.

It was a quiet day at work, 💼 a few small projects but I had to stay close to my phone and work laptop 💻 in case any projects came my way. It was a nine to five work day and I would be in deep shit 💩 if I was having fun in the woods while clocked in and not getting work done. 🎣 At five o’clock I rushed out to the lake to go fishing and forgot my life jacket. Later on in the evening fishing after dinner I brought my life jacket. The lake is pretty shallow and not that big but kids drown in kiddie pools 🏊 and it’s the law to have one on board.

Overnight will have increasing clouds ☁, with a low of 56 degrees at 7pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1941.

Tonight will have a First Quarter 🌓 Moon with 37% illuminated. At 12 AM, the moon was in the west (275°) at an altitude of 8° from the horizon, some 227,415 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 17th. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The moon will set in the west-northwest (282°) at 12:42 am. The moon will rise at 12:13 pm. The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Sunday, July 5. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 4:40 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the northeast (56°) and last for 3 minutes and 36 seconds. Sunrise is 26 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (63°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 31 minutes of darkness, an increase of 29 seconds over last night.

Saturday will have a 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 9am. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 74 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Tomorrow I’m heading home. 🏡 Not planning on rushing home – I have all day to get home and plan to stop in Saranac Lake and maybe in the High Peaks if I can find easy parking 🅿 or any other nature preserve I see. Going to be a cloudy day tomorrow so I won’t have much sun for good pictures but I’m sure driving home the alternator will bring the battery bank 🔋 to be fully restored. Sunday I’m going out to the folks house for dinner I think. 🍲

Beautiful day

June 25, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Heavy rain and 73 degrees at the Jones Pond. ☔ Glad I’m tired 😴 and decided to bail for the truck early. It’s wet! There is a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 24 mph 💨💨💨. The dew point is 45 degrees. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

Just a rain storm 💦 but quite wet for now. I’m not sure if good because of all the weather warnings ⚠ of how dry it is. That said, this week has had a lot of showers and Saturday could be quite wet.

Today I stopped by Bog River Falls then spent some time at the Tupper Lake Library. 💻 Been a pretty quiet time at work but I’ve been working on coming up with polling regions for one of my clients. Spent a little time at Tupper Lake Park and then bought a few very expensive groceries at the independent in Tupper Lake.

I forgot to get gas and ended up driving 🚘 through Saranac Lake on the way up to camp. It probably was about the same amount of time as going through pokey Fish Creek Ponds. Pretty drive between Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake, I didn’t realize how much of a drop its down to Saranac Lake. The village of Saranac Lake reminds me of a bit of Galenton, PA with the mountains and the ponds but much bigger and less hillbilly.

Occasionally I’ve been hearing a clinking noise when I turn my steering wheel 🚙 which is bothering me to no end after spending all that money on the front end of the truck. 💵 If something else is wearing out I would have hoped the shop would have pointed it out and asked me if I wanted it fixed. Maybe it’s nothing, there is nothing I can do about it for now, but it’s still annoying. It’s not effecting drivablity and it’s still happening only rarely. At times I get overly sensitive about auto noises.

Jones Pond is nice but they’ve reduced it to two drive in campsites ⛺ – the site I really like and the one in the boat launch parking area 🅿. You can guess which one I am at tonight. It’s fine though, only two nights here ✌ and it’s still on the lake and it’s close to the road so no rough roads to drive and quick to leave come Saturday when I head home. 🏡 Plus I have decent cell service for work. 📱

Tonight will have a 20 percent chance of showers before 9pm. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 5th. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1979.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 23% illuminated. At 5 PM, the moon was in the south (178°) at an altitude of 61° from the horizon, some 229,463 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 16th. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Sunday, July 5. The darkest hour is at 1:01 am, followed by dawn at 4:40 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:16 am in the northeast (56°) and last for 3 minutes and 37 seconds. Before the rain comes this evening check out the tons of woods lilies. The flowers won't likely survive the rain.
