I wondered if part of Interstate 88 was the old carriageway for NY 28 but looking at this 1943 topographic map it's not. Instead they extended NY 28 down to Interstate to make it easier to access Cooperstown.
You can see some of the buildings that remained into the early 1950s.
While there is a lot of grain on this aerial photo, you can make out many of the buildings and roads that still remained at the start of World War II.

I was curious how much of the original hamlet of Horseshoe was left when the World War II was starting. Some of it, but not a lot of it.
