The Planned Upper Peninsula Michigan Trip

Visiting the UP Next Year

I planning on taking a road trip next summer to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin. And ultimately visit the “Sand County” , Aldo Leopold Shack and Farm in Wisconsin and the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, after spending sometime exploring in the UP after crossing the Mighty Mac Bridge, hopefully not in bad weather. None of those places are necessarily the highlight of the trip, but I’m giving them as well known examples so you can plot them on your mental map.

Next summeer, I am planning to take a trip to Northern Michigan and Wisconsin. For years I’ve been talking about going out west, but I’m generally unsatisfied with the idea of boarding an airplane, renting a car, staying in motels and mostly cities along the way. I want to be free to be driving in my own vehicle, taking the side road in search of a scenic view or a farm – or for that matter a smoldering burn barrel.

Michigan Dreams

I’ve been watching several videos about the National Forests in Northern Michigan – both the lands Upper Peninsula and Huron National Forest. I am quite excited about the possibilities of that road trip this summer.

Asking Google AI About the Michigan Trip

Next summer I planning a trip to Michigan. I want to primarily camp on informal roadside campsites in the National Forest and are wondering about suggestions of places of both to camp and visit for scenery, hiking, mountain biking away from the crowds.

Navigating Summer Travel in an F-350 with Uncertain Energy Markets

With summer just around the corner, many of us are staring down the barrel of a tough decision: to road trip or not to road trip? If you’re like me and have an F-350 Super Duty sitting in the driveway, that decision carries a bit more weight this year. I still love my truck—especially with the camper shell soon to be delivered—and I certainly don’t plan on letting global trends keep me entirely out of the wilderness this summer.

Final summer vacation in the Finger Lakes

This year I am planning my final summer vacation in the Finger Lakes, starting early a week from Friday.  As I like to say, “it’s fine”. I guess it’s better then staying home but I am also incredibly tired and bored with the Finger Lakes and so many of the trips I take lately, as in recent years I could basically just cover up the years on calendar and not know the difference, a rinse and repeat of every year.

Next summer, I am planning a vacation out to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin. I need to find some green pastures, I am so incredibly bored so many things in my life but I am not ready to take a 14-year old increasingly creaky truck on an eight hour drive for multiple days, loaded down with gear, merging in an out of heavy traffic. Then hours and hours of pounding the rusty old suspension and worn out ball joints on remote rural dirt roads in forests of Michigan seem. Plus I am only just starting to study maps, consider potential destinations and places to camp in the back country

What to do if gas is unavailable or too expensive?

I’ve been giving it more thought on what summer vacation may look like if gas is unavailable or too expensive. I think $6 a gallon is a practical limit in my mind for the Michigan Trip – still quite a bit more than today – but things remain quiet uncertain with global oil markets. But what is the alternative? Maybe a quiet vacation in the wilderness closer to home.
