Smartphones Aren’t Ruining Your Eyes

Smartphones Aren’t Ruining Your Eyes

"Blue light from smartphones might be interfering with your sleep, but thereโ€™s no evidence that itโ€™s blinding you, despite ad claims and, occasionally, headlines implying it is."

"The American Academy of Ophthalmology spelled it out recently: No, Blue Light From Your Smartphone Is Not Blinding You. That was in response to a study published this summer that found blue light, plus a chemical naturally found in certain eye cells, could damage cells. The catch: researchers did not use any actual cells from our eyes, because our eyes have defenses against exactly this sort of damage. (They were studying a question unrelated to eye health; the Verge has more on the purpose and meaning of the experiment.) "

October 3, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ†. Today marks four weeks to Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ. Trick or treat. Cloudy and 54 degrees in North Syracuse. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear around 1 pm.

Today will start out rather cloudy and depressing,ย ๐Ÿ˜ญ then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž , with a high of 64 degrees at 4pm. One degrees below normal. Some sun will be nice, especially with nice autumn weather. it’s been so dark and gray lately.ย ๐Ÿ‚ Maximum dew point of 54 at 4pm. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1967. There was a dusting of snow in 1974.โ„

The sun will set at 6:41 pm with dusk around 7:09 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies and 62 and 1/8th degrees.ย Or something like that. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday. The sun ain’t going to shine any more. Winter’s coming.โ˜ƒ Maybe that’s an exaggeration but so be it.

Tonight will be partly cloudy โ˜, with a low of 56 degrees at 9pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6am. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the evening. Should be a nice evening, even in Trump’s America. In 2017, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1948.

Friday still looks nice for going down to Labrador Hollow. ๐ŸŒ„I will probably go down for the sunset, leaving work mid-day. If I get down there early enough, I will be able to enjoy the fall foliage before it gets too dark. Should be close to peak color, although this year it seems like Columbus Day is early, and the colors don’t change in the northern suburbs until late. I am sure though by my vacation, there won’t be many colors left on the trees.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Halloweenย ๐ŸŽƒ when the sun will be setting at 5:57 pm with dusk at 6:26 pm. On that day in 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 54 and 40 degrees. A pretty ordinary late October day. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 73 back in 1946.
