Two or three weeks πŸ“†

I was thinking next Friday come this time I will most likely have the truck cap on my truck. I have the money ready now, and they said they expected delivery the first week of June as of last week, however I did not confirm this week. Hopefully it gets installed next week, and then next weekend I can move my gear and start wiring things up.

It’s possible that the weekend of June 12-14 I’ll take my new rig out to Schoharie to test it out but I also kind of want to visit the Gas Up with dad that weekend. I am not so sold on camping that week but if it’s hot and nice, I’ll consider it. More likely is I’ll take off June 18th, heading out to of town on June 17th through the Juneteenth Weekend. Then maybe save Schoharie for later in June or early July, though I’m thinking of Moose River Plains for Independence Day 250 Weekend.

So far I’ve only driven Old Smokey to work once, but I look forward to that day, I head in, my truck loaded down with gear, and then head out to camp from work. The truck nice and cold from the remote start and air conditioning blowing cold. The grunt of the climb up North First Street, merging onto I-90, getting bacon at For the Love of Bacon, and then heading off to camp. Samdill’s Farm Stand as the summer progresses.

Moose River Plains for Independence Day 250?

I haven’t been up to Moose Rivers Plains since September 2019. The reason why is multi-fold. One was I never really felt all that great with the lifted Silverado after putting the 35s on the truck on those rough road. Always worried I would break a part and have a long, expensive tow back to civilization. Plus, it just seemed like there were more convenient and often more remote from other campsites closer to home – such as Piseco-Powley and Perkns Clearing. Also, with things so spread out at Moose River Plains, it seemed like you spent half you trip driving from one place to another at 15 MPH, burning up expensive gas.

But this year with my new truck and mountain bike, I am starting to reconsider my plans – particularly for Independence Day Weekend, for America’s 250th Birthday. Take off July 3rd, leave for Perkins Clearing on July 2nd, then head the rest of way north to Moose River Plains early on July 3rd and set up camp somewhere a bit more remote but around the Big “T” where I could then mountain bike the miles and miles of road, float on Summer Stream or Moose River in the tube, kayak on Helldiver or Cedar River on Sunday before heading back home. It would be fun to get back up there after all these years.

43% of Voters Dissatisfied With Both Parties – The New York Times

Times/Siena Poll: 43% of Voters Dissatisfied With Both Parties – The New York Times

Alienation is felt most intensely among younger voters; nearly two-thirds of respondents under the age of 30 expressed dissatisfaction with both parties. Young voters are increasingly likely to identify as politically independent — a recent report from Gallup had the number of independents at a three-decade high — and, so far, they are more likely to remain that way as they age than they were in previous generations.

“Both parties are the same,” said Max Cook, 24, a college student in San Diego. “They both have the same level of corruption. They both take lobbying money. It’s different lobbying, but the same corruption.”

Mr. Cook said he did not vote in 2024 because he did not care for either major party candidate. He added he leaned toward Republicans as the “lesser of two evils” but worried that neither party was putting America first.
