Moose River Plains for Independence Day 250?

I haven’t been up to Moose Rivers Plains since September 2019. The reason why is multi-fold. One was I never really felt all that great with the lifted Silverado after putting the 35s on the truck on those rough road. Always worried I would break a part and have a long, expensive tow back to civilization. Plus, it just seemed like there were more convenient and often more remote from other campsites closer to home – such as Piseco-Powley and Perkns Clearing. Also, with things so spread out at Moose River Plains, it seemed like you spent half you trip driving from one place to another at 15 MPH, burning up expensive gas.

But this year with my new truck and mountain bike, I am starting to reconsider my plans – particularly for Independence Day Weekend, for America’s 250th Birthday. Take off July 3rd, leave for Perkins Clearing on July 2nd, then head the rest of way north to Moose River Plains early on July 3rd and set up camp somewhere a bit more remote but around the Big “T” where I could then mountain bike the miles and miles of road, float on Summer Stream or Moose River in the tube, kayak on Helldiver or Cedar River on Sunday before heading back home. It would be fun to get back up there after all these years.
