Which Is the Best Insect Repellent?

Picaridin vs DEET: Which Is the Best Insect Repellent?

"Created by Bayer in the 1980s, picaridin (pronounced pih-CARE-a-den) is a synthetic compound developed from a plant extract from the genus Piper, the same plant genus that produces table pepper. Picaridin has been available since 1998 in Europe and Australia—where it is the best-selling insect repellent—but was approved for sale in the United States only in 2005. (You may see it listed as KBR 3023, Bayrepel, or icaridin.) As with DEET, the EPA has concluded that the normal use of picaridin does not present a health concern."

"Studies have shown picaridin to be as effective as DEET in repelling mosquitoes. Unlike DEET, however, picaridin is odorless, non-greasy, and does not dissolve plastics or other synthetics. The one possible concern with picaridin is its relative newness. Insufficient time has passed for long-term health risks (should they exist) to manifest themselves. A limited, but growing, number of repellents contain picaridin, including Cutter Advanced, Sawyer Premium, and Repel Smart Spray."

This Is The Coolest Activity You Can Do In Pennsylvania

"Most people have no idea that you can do this activity in Pennsylvania — in fact, most people probably have no idea you can do this activity at all, anywhere. Most would never even think of it: to ride an ATV underground through the labyrinthine corridors of a now-defunct mine. At Mines And Meadows ATV Resort in Wampum, Pennsylvania, you can do just this. And what’s even more amazing? The ride only costs $5."

In a little more then sixteen weeks, summer will be coming to a conclusion and we will be looking at autumn. How fast things change.

Dusk isn’t until around 9:12 PM on those days. 8 PM sunsets return on August 12th, then 7:30 sunset on August 31st.

The average high climbs until Thursday July 13th, when it will stick around 83 degrees until Thursday, July 27th when it will fall down to 82 degrees and slow descend through the 80s until Thursday, August 24th when the average high will be only 79.

May 9, 2017 9 AM Update

Well for a while we had a fair bit of sun, but now it’s hiding behind the clouds. A little warmer than yesterday with temperatures around 48 degrees on our way up to 54 degrees. Not going to get really warm because of that cold arctic air filtering in from the north.

The sun will set at 8:05 pm with dusk around 8:37 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy conditions and 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 26 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 37 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2016, it got down to 34 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1958.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is Average High is 70 when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 59 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1991.

I tell you, I wouldn’t mind the Rex Block so much, if the weather was more stable on the weekends. The occasional blue skies and sunshine are fine, and I don’t mind the cold. But rain and clouds predicted every weekend just sucks.

I’m feeling better this morning. I think I may have inhaled some mildew cleaning on yesterday morning. The bleach is working but I have some other spots to hit by the window come tonight. . It’s been just so damp lately. Maybe I should get a face mask and where it while cleaning. I thought I had solved the mildew problem last year after many hours of extensive scrubbing with bleach, but it popped up again with the cold, damp weather.

Assuming I get out of work early enough today, I want to get to the grocery store to buy some soap and waffle mix. My slivers of soap keep getting smaller in the bathroom, and while I like having eggs for breakfast, I think I prefer waffles because it’s a faster breakfast to cook and clean up after. I got to get to Shoprite, because they have all the good different types of waffle mixes that I like.

I’m almost to work. Have a great day!
