Forest Road 71 – Somerset Airfield Rd 📍

Located in the southern Green Mountains, Forest Road 71 connects Somerset Road with Kelley Stand Road, and offers nearly 9 miles of scenic driving following the East Branch of the Deerfield River, with roadside campsites along it’s length. Notable designations include the former Somerset Airfield and the beautiful wetlands known as Shep Meadow.

Roadside Campsite on FR 71

There are many road side campsites along Kelley Stand Road, Forest Road 70 (to Lye Brook Wilderness) and Forest Road 71 (to Stratton Air Field/Kelley Stand Road). Most of them are pretty basic with no facilities but stone fire rings, although some are a little farther back then others.
