Today the 2020 Decennial Census Demographic and Housing Characteristics file was released. Probably the most interesting thing this year is we now have a whole person count of same-sex households, both married and otherwise -- and not just estimates.

There was in 2020 -- 48,410 same-sex married households in NY State, and 3,131,128 opposite-sex married households.

This map looks at married same-sex vs. opposite-sex couples in NY State. Same-sex married households are particularly common in Hudson Valley, and Southern Catskills, along with many of the cities.
