Dixie Fire – August 8, 2021
The Dixie Fire has already destroyed nearly all of the historic Gold Rush town of Greenville and authorities warn it could take weeks to contain.
There are currently 11 major wildfires burning in the state.
Rescue workers are bracing for higher temperatures of 38C (100F) in the coming days.
The Dixie Fire started on 13 July and has since ravaged more than 489,000 acres (198,000 hectares). Just 21% of the blaze is contained, according to officials.
It has burned 480,000 acres, which is more then all of Albany County which is 523 square miles or 334,720 acres.

Drunk Driving Fatalities Per 100k County Residents
Seneca County in the Finger Lakes has the highest fatality rate for drunk driver in New York State 2015. However, when you look at the five-year average, Hamilton and Lewis County edge it out for deadliest for drunk drivers. The 2011-15 average shows Yates County as third, and Seneca County for per capita fatalities in the state, due to drunk drivers. It seems like a lot of people get drunk at wineries and then go for a drive in the Finger Lakes Wine Country in New York.
