In the early morning hours of March 29, 1911, a fire broke out in the New York State Capitol at Albany. By sunset, the vast collection of the New York State Library, then housed in the Capitol, had been reduced to ashes.
Albany, March 29 -- Five million dollars probably could repair the damage done by fire in the State Capitol to-day, but money cannot restore the historical records which were the pride of its state library. Although the fire started in the northwest corner of the building, it caused the greatest navoc in the southwestern corner. Here the red-tiled pointed cupola fell, carrying down part of the carved granite work that supported it and a towering stone chimney. The entire west wall above the second floor was blackened with smoke and many of the stone window frames were melted by the fierce heat. The granite cornice was ruined.
"I've had lots of questions on why I use prescribed burning to maintain my property. Fire is an amazing tool to help control unwanted vegetation such as cedar trees."
This week will have a good preview of all the wild weather we can have in late March into April. No ending like a lamb, at least not today, with strong winds being the prominent feature of the day. More like a day you’ll want to grab by the horns so you don’t blow away. But mild and very dry tomorrow, but rain come Wednesday into April Fools Day when trout season opens to some snow. Then clear and cold for the weekend.
