One of my hopes with Coronavirus financial woes is it will lead to a dissolving of local governments 🏛️

For much too long there have been too many tiny communities of a few hundred people, all with their own tiny local government. Slapped on top of that is a county government and a state government. It’s bureaucratic and bad for the people.

In the era of chain restaurants and stores, automobiles that can travel through dozens of municipalities per hour, centralized media and instant world wide communication, local government is a quaint throwback to an earlier era. A standardized regional government would have far less duplication of services, less taxes and a more just system that can follow one set of rules that protect civil liberties and rights.

Some states have more standardization and fewer local governments. Some places have one bus service for the whole state, one highway department for all roads, one school district, one system for sitting and planning development, and one system of justice. The more consolidation the better government could operate.

Democrats warn GOP: Don’t fill a Supreme Court vacancy in 2020 or we’ll retaliate

WASHINGTON — Democrats are warning Republicans not to fill a possible Supreme Court vacancy this year after denying President Barack Obama the chance in 2016, saying it would embolden a push on the left to add seats to the court whenever they regain power.

"We knew basically they were lying in 2016, when they said, 'Oh, we can't do this because it's an election year.' We knew they didn't want to do it because it was President Obama," Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., said in an interview.
