Could the Twenties be the Decade of the Plant?

As the new year dawns and a new decade with it, farmers and ranchers naturally wonder what the next 10 years might bring. Will the '20s be the decade when new, high-tech plant-based competitors do to real meat what almond and oat substitutes have done to milk?

According to the magazine Fast Company, researchers at RethinkX, a think tank, are predicting that and more. RethinkX thinks "we are on the cusp of the fastest, deepest, most consequential disruption" of agriculture in history, with the entire U.S. dairy and cattle industry collapsing by 2030.

“Iran's response will likely be a combination of direct and indirect responses aimed at targeting U.S. military infrastructure and even personnel,” Sanam Vakil, a senior research fellow at London-based think tanks Chatham House, told VICE News. “Iraq is the most likely area where Iran can and will strike first, but the U.S. should not rule out strikes in the Persian Gulf.”

It really sucks for the neighbors of the Dunn Landfill and it probably will for the foreseeable future. I am sure it was a very similar experience for residences in the Southern Boulevard neighborhood for many years when that was a city dump. But it seems like there is so little effort to sort and reuse waste – it all about tearing buildings as fast as possible and dumping and piling their contents wherever permitted space can be found.

It’s 2020 and you’re in the future — Wait But Why

It’s finally the 2020s. After 20 years of not being able to refer to the decade we’re in, we’re all finally free—in the clear for the next 80 years until 2100, at which point I assume AGI will have figured out what to call the two decades between 2100 and 2120.

We now live in the 20s! It’s exciting. “The twenties” is super legit-sounding, and it’s so old school. The 40s are old. The 30s even more so. But nothing is older school than the Roaring 20s.

We’re now in charge of making this a cool decade so when people 100 years from now are thinking about how incredibly old-timey the 2020s were, it’s old-timey in a cool appealing way and not a boring shitty way.
