March 16, 2017 8 AM Update

22 degrees now and quite sunny with blue skies. If there is something to say about yet a miserable commute the skies are quite nice. Only going to reach 29 or 30 degrees later but treated surfaces should start to melt. My hope is they’ll get the sidewalks finished today and salted so getting around will be easier tomorrow. I live in the Town of Bethlehem and they care about their citizens, so I’m sure that will happen.  Albany on the other hand is a complete mess from the snow storm, it’s pretty obvious that little snow removal progress is being made. Hopefully by evening I will be able to walk down to the library on bare sidewalks or at least treated, mostly clear ones.

My  commute wasn’t a bad walk down to the express bus until of course the sidewalk ran out of plowed area. The town did a pretty good job at clearing the sidewalk until they ran out of fuel or daylight or labor or something. Then it was a bit narrow walking on the shoulder but traffic was light. Then the road widened up and got down to the park and ride in good time. The bus was running about on time and we were doing good until we reached city limits and the Normans Kill, when US 9W and Southern Boulevard ground to a halt. Snow banks meant the merge lane on 787 was blocked. Then there was delays on the South Mall expressway. South Swan is also mess due to delays caused by the bus stop being full of snow and buses having no place to let passengers out. Ever since the faux blizzard all there has been is traffic delays. I wish the government would do more to get motorists off the road in the city to ensure smooth commutes.

The sun will set at 7:03 pm with dusk around 7:31 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 12 hours of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 20 degrees at 3am. 14 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 15 at 6pm; Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. In 2016, it got down to 38 degrees with periods of fog and rain and thunderstorm. The record low of -1 occurred back in 1916.

There is one month until Easter when the sun will be setting at 7:39 pm with dusk at 8:08 pm. The average high temperature is 59 degrees, with a record high of 92 in 2012.
