There are currently 300 days until Election Day when the political silly season comes to an end. I know a lot of people will be looking forward to Election Day coming and going. Partisans had a lot of fun spinning the president’s speech.

This day in 1966, Robert C. Weaver becomes the first African American Cabinet member when he is appointed United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development by Lyndon Johnson. He would be proceeded by Nixon appointee George Romney in 1969. Robert J. Wood was an interim replacement for about a month between the two. Funny to think our first black president is wrapping up his final year in office, while it was only fifty years ago that we had our first black cabinet member.

I suspect that buying a lottery ticket will not get you closer to your dreams but saving money and developing a plan for a better tomorrow will.
