July 27, 2015 evening

67 degrees after a hot and humid day. The coolness after the warm day is nice but I’m still keeping the fire small. Tomorrow may push 90 degrees, I’m off to Robert Treman State Park and plan to spend a lot of time at the gorge pool.

This morning I went to Watkins Glen. The gorge was packed with tourists taking pictures. I snapped a few for the record but it was way to crowded to be particularly enjoyable. Plus it was hot so I was in a rush to get the Olympic-sized pool which I have good memories about from two years ago when I was here. I like the gorge pools but swimming in them to be cold and they don’t leave you feeling as clean as swimming in a real pool.

I swam for about 4 hours in the pool although I occasionally hopped out to enjoy the sun. In contrast to Cayuga Lake yesterday, I thought the water was too warm for comfort. Colder water would have been more refreshing. The pool was fairly crowded but not packed. It’s a big pool, located in a beautiful location with nice landscaping. I put on tons of sunscreen. Tommorow I will find out how sunburnt I got but as of now I feel fine.

After leaving the pool, found a ice cream stand aka a dairy bar, and got a large soft serve black raspberry and vanilla soft ice cream cone. Enormous cone, had to a foot long. I had been craving soft ice cream ever since I saw an article about homemade soft ice cream. Passed a ice cream stand in Unadilla and Ithaca and have been kicking myself for not stopping. It was good, brought back good memories.

Couldn’t find block ice anywhere in Watkins Glen. I tried TOPS and Walmart and two gas station. This isn’t the first time I’ve had this problem. I bought two bags of ice cubes but they won’t last long in this heat. I did gas up the truck, so I should be good for a while.

Thought about moving to another campsite but the other campsite I was looking at was taken and another site I looked at seemed pretty buggy and not that nice. So I’m back in the site I really like.

Hopefully tonight though the cows won’t decide to wander over the pasture near my campsite and wake me up with the mooing like last night. Cows can really bellow out their moos when they want. And we are close to a full moon. I haven’t seen the cows since yesterday, so maybe they are moved to a different pasture.

Off to bed. I’m tired.
