Hollyhock Hollow Sanctuary

Hollyhock Hollow Sanctuary (often referred to as Hollyhock Preserve) is a 135-acre nature preserve located at 46 Rarick Road in Selkirk, New York, managed by the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy (MHLC).

Key Features & Activities

• Trail System: Over three and a half miles of mild, interconnected hiking trails optimal for walking, jogging, and cross-country skiing.
• Onesquethaw Creek: Offers serene water views, limestone geologies, and a place to dip your feet on warm days.
• Historic Quarry: Trails wind past a historic limestone quarry, which provided stone used to build the Brooklyn Bridge.
• Wildlife & Birding: Deemed a birdwatcher’s paradise with rich botanical diversity, active reptile populations, and wild brown trout.

Rules & Guidelines

• Fishing: Permitted as catch-and-release only. Anglers must use barbless hooks, no live bait, and anyone over 16 requires a valid NYS freshwater license.
• Dogs: Permitted on leash.
• Parking: Free on-site parking lot off Rarick Road.

Popular Trail Loops

• White Loop (1.9 miles): The primary outer trail loop weaving through deciduous forest. It is mostly flat and  family-friendly.
• Blue, Purple, and Red Loop: Connects the woods to the creek bed and passes the old mining structures.
