Beautiful spring Sunday 🌸
If I had my truck cap I would have probably gone camping this weekend but whatever, yesterday was nice at both the Pine Hollow Arboretum and the Schiffendecker Preserve.
Today’s plan includes going out to Kehler Preserve on Wolf Hill 🐺, just doing some hiking, nature and wildflower observation and maybe back to Hannacroix Creek Preserve on the off-chance there is a lot of extra time. Thought about maybe Cole Hill, Partridge Run or Thacher Park but with gas prices I don’t feel like driving out that far, plus with spring turkey underway, I don’t want to bother the turkey hunters where the season is open until noon. 🦃 Just hiking today, I don’t want to bother with the bike. Maybe do some reading too. Maybe after dinner, I’ll do Bennett Hill or Copeland Hill again. Not sure! Always a good way to end the weekend.
Next weekend for Memorial Day Weekend looks like rain, 🌧️ but whatever is my attitude to that. If the rain holds off I might hammock camp. 🏕️ Or do a hike or something not too far from home. The black flies are certain to be awful in woods wherever I go, and it’s likely all the popular places are already taken. I do hope to get the truck cap for that weekend, so I can start wiring and moving gear over. I really should have called Ruth’s about the truck cap, but I don’t care that much, calling every five minutes won’t make it arrive quicker, though I kind of need a status update so I have time to move money and draw a bank check, as that’s how Ruth wants to get paid due to credit card fees.
I was delighted to find an easy to access, safe cable run for the CB radio antenna and power wires into the cab, 🟣 after finding a bung under the passenger seat, where there is no carpet or other wires to potentially run into. That’s where I will run the antenna wire plus power. I’ve been looking, and I am going to get a small relay box that I can control from the upfitter box to control the CB radio, cap lights, and other equipment either from the upfitter switches or the switches I mount in the truck cab. Use diodes to prevent backfeeding, but I want all accessory loads to be on the accessory batteries to avoid discharging the starting batteries. Starting to think maybe the best place to mount the CB radio is not on the dash – where it might get too hot with solar radiation plus block the windshield view – but instead under the seat where the pass through for the cable is. Won’t be able to change the channel when driving but I’ll still leave it on so I can hear what truckers are saying while driving. Or maybe tucked under the front seat would be better.
Yesterday I went to Walmart 🛒 and got a SD card reader which I found Ic couldn’t actually use with my phone unless I removed the case. That’s annoying I told myself but at least I can still get the photos off my camera and onto my phone for uploading. 📱. Then on the way back my chain ⛓️💥 broke again on the Delmar Bypass, 2 or 3 miles away from home, and I had to push / coast my bike home. Got another quick link from Mad Dawg Bikes, this one was only $5 including tax. I returned the ScAmazon quick links I got last week, dropping the package 📦 off at the UPS box at Empire Plaza when I was downtown for my Friday meetings. I think the reason I continue to have problems with the bike is derailuer is bent, but I tried to straighten and adjust it more yesterday, and with het replacement quicklink I was back riding to Pine Hollow Arboretum. It was a nice evening, spent like 3 or 4 hours exploring and reading at the tree museum yesterday before the threat of rain 🌧️ had me hurrying home, but then I ended up riding a few more miles around the neighborhood as once I started the ride the rain clouds cleared a bit, and it didn’t rain until around 9 pm. I don’t know if I have the bike fixed or I’ll be dealing with another broken quick link in a week, I may need to replace bent derailuer or see professional help. Frustrating but at least the bike rides again.
