Just a cold and increasingly gray Saturday … ☁️

Maybe I wasted a perfectly good Saturday reading Roman Mars’ 99 Percent Invisible, though I did get out and ride to Five Rivers then down to some of the backroads in Font Grove for probably a ten mile loop. I could have done more, but I was tired and that wind was biting. I’m ready for January to be done so I can be floating down the East Canada Creek once again.

Replaced the front brake pad, bled the line a second time, and hopefully things should be good for a long time now. Topping off the brake fluid previously restored much of the braking capacity back but as last week rolled on, and especially after hauling the bike with the wheel off then riding trail up at Burnt-Rossman last weekend, the front brake had gotten increasingly soft. I had pads ready to go on but I didn’t want to mess with it when I bleeding out the brakes, but with the pad basically completely worn out, I was getting leaks around the caliper, especially when the wheel was off, plus you can build up pressure by topping off the brake fluid and getting the bubble out, but if you have very little pad, you still are going to have shit brakes. I didn’t miss much not riding in this week, it was much too cold the first half of the week, and then there was too much snow on the trail even come Friday. It’s fine, it’s not like its that much money to ride the bus, plus riding the bike isn’t free either with the wear and tear.

I went out for a ride to Five Rivers and the Font Grove. I was hoping to ride some of the bike trail, but the snow was awful for riding – it was warm enough that it was greasy – yet at same it icy and pock marked, and otherwise completely unpleasant to ride. I ended up not riding the bike trail because it was so rough, and winding over Surrey Mall Road down to McCormick Road and back home. I thought about going down to the library, but I ended up just staying home and reading. Made a big pot of rice, lentils, red onions and tumeric, and it was good. Retired to bed fairly early.
