To buy or not to buy a scale 🏋️

My electric bathroom scale has gotten broken and I’m not sure if I can repair it. At one level I kind of wish I had a scale so weigh myself regularly so I could see how I’m doing at shedding an additional 13 lbs in my goal of having a healthy weight – a BMI of 24.9 or less.

At the same time, I’m undecided if I really want to know my exact weight, because weighting yourself all the time isn’t healthy and it’s pretty normal for human weight to fluctuate over time. You drink water, you poop or pee and you can easily gain or loose 10 lb based on when you measure yourself.

That said, putting a number on a goal and regularly measuring your progress can get you closer to your goal. It helps keep you accountable. But I’m not sure if I need more stuff. Scales aren’t expensive but they still are more stuff.

Another practical use of a bathroom scale is measuring how much propane I have left it my 20 lb tank for camping. Propane is easily weighted and the full and empty weights are printed on the tank, 17 lb empty, 37 lb full. Handy to know, guess work.

Truth be told, I might not want to know how my progress is on my weight, even though I’ve done so good recently. But sometimes accountability can be hard. Though I doubt I’ll fall back too far as I’ve made so much progress on my weight and reaping so many benefits to be being healthier these days.
