Good Morning – October 23, 2021

Good morning! Happy Weekend! 🌇

Another kind of dark morning, but that’s too be expected. Cool out, but it is late October so that’s also to be expected. I went to bed early, and got up early. Not much rain yesterday, although the weather was kind of raw walking home from the Park and Ride. Frank wasn’t driving.

Partly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ Calm wind. Sun on and off this weekend. But not a real nice forecast. But you have to take what you get.

Today I am planning on doing some lit dropping 📰 for Mr. DeCancio for Town Board in my neighborhood and then maybe later on go down to the library 📚 or maybe out to Five Rivers. 🐸

I thought about going down to Papcanscanne Preserve, but with gas prices these days ⛽ I’d rather keep Big Red home, parked as much as possible. 🍂 Autumn leaves are finally really starting to turn here in Delmar, and it certainly is healthier to walk out to Five Rivers. 🦆

I managed to break the GIS stack on my computer, trying to upgrade gdal and proj so I could get some of the R Programming Langauge mapping libraries up and working. 🗺 I failed at that and ended up breaking QGIS and a bunch of other GIS libraries trying to upgrade to the latest libraries in ubutugis-unstable. 🤖 I ended up removing ubuntugis-unstable, which was fine, but I managed to uninstall PostGIS, so I can’t do anything really with mapping until I get that reinstalled, as all my OpenStreetMap data along with several other databases is stored in PostGIS for reasons of speed. That said, I think there is some neat projects I can do with R and mapping, although I there are also some good mapping libraries in Python too.

Tomorrow though I’ll probably go for a walk up at Partridge Run 🚶‍♀️ or somewhere I haven’t been in a while to take in a remaining color, which will certainly be all gone after the rainy and week that is expected next week. 🍂  I also will do some reading and maybe working on code, but I’m annoyed that my R mapping stack is broken — as that’s what I wanted to play with this weekend. Of course, I really wanted to get out of town, but at least going west wouldn’t have been a good idea as it’s been much rainer and cloudier in Utica and Syracuse, and points out that way compared to Albany.

I think I’ve pretty much settled on what I’m going to do with the truck tires. ⚫ I think next week I will go to American Auto Glass (local BDS dealer) and order tires with them, but not the Nitto Terras as they are too expensive. I might get BFGs or something similar like Cooper tires, all-terrian tires not mud tires. I’ll see what brands they have. I also want to have them replace that shock bushing that is bad for a much better ride, and it’s not an expensive part. I want to do that soon enough in case there are shipping delays, as my inspection is due the end of November, and I don’t think the current tires will pass.
