The cost of beauty

Driving home last night and looking at the Empire State Plaza all lit up, it got me thinking it won’t be long before the decorative lights on the Plaza will be extinguished due to cuts in state funding due to the recession.

I guess it’s good to save energy and therefore natural gas, but there also is a cost to the lack of beauty, a lack of city’s core landmark dimmed and dulled. I am sure as the lights of the plaza go out, so will the fountains in the summer waterfalls up front.
