South Hamilton

Heading through South Hamilton on a gray, very muddy day. I just like how these little hick towns have so much character even as the old buildings only get oolder.

Dutch Belted

Reading this book about cattle breeds, I am realizing the striped cows I’ve always called Belted Galloways are probably Dutch Belted, as the later are dairy breeds with rich milk production that is high in butterfat and protein, sort of like Jerseys. Upstate is still dairy country so it makes sense they’d be Dutch Belted.

Dutch Belted cattle actually have quite a history tied to Upstate NY and look a bit different than the Belted Galloways, even if both are belted.
