As the snowmobile trail climbs the mountain, it narrows and grows progressively steeper. It's not a bad trail for snowshoers, as the snowmobiles must proceed slowly up such a steep mountain.

The yellow trail heads down to a delightful chain of ponds, including Black Mountain Pond, while the red trail goes to the peak of Black Mountain.

The entire Black Mountain-area is Wild Forest, so it is traversed by snowmobile trails. I took the snowmobile trail / old woods up Black Mountain, because it was easy to snowshoe up.
