October 15, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Three weeks to Election Day 2019 πŸ—³οΈ. A week from Saturday starts Early Voting. I’ll probably Early Vote during one of the evening sessions. Sunny and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind.

It’s a long way from Albany to the coal and oil fields of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. β›½ I am taken back to the Pennsylvania 36 outside Punxsutawney, the piles of GOB and hills largely free of tree as the wide and fairly straight road climbed and sank over the hills. Listening to Joan Baez’s rendition of Motherland as we pass the gas station and the Normans Kill heading downtown. I’ve left the country where they call creeks Runs rather than Kills. “Take one look behind, commit it to memory and mind.” The country of West Virginia is just a memory now.

As the PA DCNR sign said in Cook Forest, “Pollution is not just an urban problem.” I remember looking at the Indiana Penna power plant stuck up high on the ridge between Johnstown and Indiana. 🏭 They put the coal power plants up high on ridges to disperse the pollution at least locally, so it’s spread out further. The power plant with its high voltage ⚑ lines sends power to Pittsburgh and other large cities on the Eastern Seaboard. 🌊

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 60 degrees at 4pm. Typical for today. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1897. There was a dusting of snow in 1939.❄

The sun will set at 6:13 pm with dusk around 6:42 pm, which is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 55 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Light south wind. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1978.

I was thinking πŸ’ about all the things I have to at work today. πŸ“₯ I actually don’t know because I planned to spend a lot of time in my vacation in the National Quiet Zone πŸ”‡ so I intentionally didn’t follow the work email πŸ“§.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, sunny, with a high near 60. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 64. Maximum dew point of 47 at 3pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees. The Pine Bush hike and maybe a hike myself in the Catskills will be nice if I come up with my own route.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Election Day 2019 πŸ—³οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:43 pm with dusk at 5:13 pm (Standard Time). The sun sets a lot earlier than in West Virginia but the exchange is the mornings are a tad bit brighter here, although the winter days are longer down south. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 48 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1994.
