Saturday October 2, 2010 — Labrador Hollow Unique Area — Labrador Hollow Unique Area 🗺After reading a Sierra Club email blast about them using AES Greenridge🏭 in the Finger Lakes to generate power for bitcoin making 💰 I did some Googling. Seems like kind of a silly waste of fossil energy ⚡ especially in light of the fact that most bitcoin is being used for criminal purposes.
If I understand how it works, basically the plant operates close to full output but holds back 15 MW of power to sell to the bit coin miners. 🔌 Then in times of heavy demand for power, the power plant shuts off the bitcoin mining operations quickly and sells the power to the grid at top dollar. 💵 It’s more efficient and less wear to operate the plant at a constant speed rather than powering up and down when the extra energy is needed.
