There’s a lot of shaming on the internet of people who want to go out and do things, and this makes us question our desires to do so. Yes, we all want to survive this pandemic. But we also need to learn to live with COVID around us and take steps to protect ourselves and our communities. Ultimately, most of the risks we will all take won’t be about pedicures, or haircuts, or eating at a steakhouse. They will be about seeing the people we love, being with the people who sustain us, interacting in a way that makes us feel human. While love can be expressed in an email, on a computer screen, in a phone call, those digital forms of communication are no substitute for sharing the same physical space with another person, even if the words are the same. And wanting that closeness does not make you a bad person. Just wear a mask when you do it.

June 13, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! I know it doesn’t seem much different working from home but hopefully I’ll get fewer client emails. ๐Ÿ“ง Next Saturday is the official start of Summer. ๐ŸŠ Partly sunny and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 43 degrees.

I went to bed early last night but ended up laying in bed ๐Ÿ“ป listening to podcasts late into the night. I actually don’t know why I didn’t sleep well, I had fresh sheets and I went to bed before nine. I also feel a bit achy, I think it’s the Lyme again. ๐Ÿœ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 12th. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1892.

Cool but a pretty nice day it seems. โ˜€ No big plans for the day but I really should get shopping later on today. I’m thinking about Schodack Island or maybe driving out to Harvey Mountain and staying overnight at the lean to up there. ๐ŸŽช Might be a bit of a chilly night though. I also should do some cleaning today and I want to work on the blog code. ๐Ÿ’ป

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:52 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 28 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 28 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 61 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 30 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 43 degrees at 5am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 3rd. North wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1970.

On this day in 1966, the United States Supreme Court rules in Miranda v. Arizona that the police must inform suspects of their rights before questioning them. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ Also in 1970, “The Long and Winding Road” becomes The Beatles’ last U.S. number one song. ๐ŸŽถ And in 1977, Convicted Martin Luther King Jr. assassin James Earl Ray is recaptured after escaping from prison three days before.

As previously noted, next Saturday is the first day of Summer ๐ŸŠ when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2019, we had humid, mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 79 and 66 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.
